1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][RIC] Riecoin, new prime numbers POW coin, CLIENT UPDATE v0.8.7 AVAILABLE on: March 23, 2014, 10:43:47 AM
I need to pay closer attention. Did the difficulty raise again? MY stats on YPool has dropped like a rock on sse11 from dga.

Check your miners - some people are reporting that they're seeing invalid shares start showing up after the miner has been running for a long time.  I haven't been able to replicate this yet on any of my machines, but I'm looking.

yupe, 3 in a row after you mentioned it.

4 hrs after I started 2 instances of xptminer on 2 different machines, I noticed a chain of "Reason: CheckProofOfWork() : n not prime" on my I7 4770, compiled to AVX. My other machine, Quad core Q9550, compiled to SSE, no chain of msg yet.

I've had this too on dga's official b11 Windows build. It just stops finding valid shares altogether and always says "n not prime" for any share found.

CPU only didnt last long, very true. But Heavycoin has demonstrated desirable and differentiating qualities in GPU mining, cooler temps and lower power use. HVC seems to be re-branding itself to take advantage of its new-found strengths.

Yeah, I'll give you that.

Wait so now the Hefty1 cryptography has been cracked where is the miner download for mining using GPU? I cant seem to find it anywhere or is it being hoarded by the hoards of all thine hoards?Huh
1. It's not cracked - just made reasonably efficient to run on a GPU.
2. Google?  C'mon now.  You didn't even try, did you?

"reasonably efficient"?! My old, very underclocked, Radeon HD 7850 can hash 10x faster than my overclocked i5-3570K.

Nah mate, I'd say Hefty1 has been well and truely annihilated  Tongue

That has ZERO effect on the main purpose of this coin.. GPU mining just takes power away from the botnets. And HEFTY1 is still 100x better than just another scrypt clone!

I disagree that is has no effect. While voting for block rewards is without doubt an innovation, being CPU-only was also touted as one of the main differentiators of this coin.

-b9 has been reduced to 7% dev fee.  6.5% me, 0.5% jh00.  Windows build is 6% me, 0.5% jh00, 0.5% Clintar.
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dga/crypto/ric/

Can I ask why the extra 0.5% to jh00? jh00 already makes his coins from pool fees, and could adjust those if he wanted to take a bigger slice.

I know - but I built entirely on his codebase from xptMiner.  I've only changed one file in there - riecoinMiner.cpp.  All of the rest, from the threading and #cpu detection to the xpt protocol, is his.  I think it's right to have part of the dev fee go to jh00-the-developer, and for the pool fees to go to jh00-the-pool-creator/maintainer.

(I realize they're the same person and that jh00 benefits twice, but the way I mentally worked through this decision was to ask what I'd do if I'd based my code on someone else's miner -- I'd give part of the dev fee to them, too, so I figured it shouldn't be any different simply because jh00 also maintains the pool.)

This is the same reason the dev fee is split a little more for the Windows version -- Clintar did the patching and the makefile in his version for getting it to compile under the mingw framework, and helped me out getting my cross compilation environment working.

Yes... but jh00 open-sourced his code exactly so others could improve upon it?

...and Clintar deserves more for compiling with mingw... that is about as much fun as gouging out your own eyeballs with a rusty spoon Wink

I don't believe for a second that jh00 is up to no good, at least regarding users of his pool. Using fake company info is however certainly on shakey legal ground.
Just to clarify this, the info is not fake. Or at least not on purpose. All data is correct except the company name. When we registered the domain we tried to think ahead and it turned out that "ypool gmbh" is not the company name/form that we settled for. It will be corrected of course. The problem is that Miki (primer-) doesn't even want to hear our explanation. He just came here to make us look bad. I have no idea what I did wrong to make him this angry.

Thanks for clarifying - this should surely settle this issue once and for all, and I hope there are no further personal attacks from either 'side'!

This is just a heads-up for all ypool miners! Watch out!

Hi, Miroslav Petrovic -

I trust you have applied the same due diligence to maintaining your own domain registration information in an up-to-date fashion. :-)

dga, I don't believe it's right for you to be publishing personal information about private citizens. I would expect someone of your academic standing would think about the consequences of such actions.

is there any bounty for us since we added HVC to cryptokopen.eu?
 http://cryptokopen.eu/buy-HeavyCoin

I think that nobody get a bounty for accepting HVC.  Smiley
Devs promise bounty on first page  for sites that accept HVC, but no one
receive anything. I wrote to devs to tell him about Bitscraper,
but no respond.

You did get added to the OP.

And the bounty rule was for "substaintial" (sic) merchants.

To remove the 10% dev fee on b8 version just edit the binary using vi editor :

vi xptminer-sse4-b8

:,$s/RUhMA8bvsr48aC3WVj3aGf5p1zytPSz59o/Your_Address/
(ENTER)
:wq

Are you sure this works? Ypool still reports a 10% fee for workers.

Yes, the fee goes to Your_Address...

Are you sure, because the address I used as a replacement wasn't showing up on ypool's dev fees page (the one that shows the balance of dev fee accounts)

@miki, did you really want to start an arms race?  I have no desire to make it hard for people who really object to the dev fee to remove it, so I left it simple as you noticed - with help - but you should consider the long-term effects of your actions with respect to the incentives for miners and developers and creating a thriving community for the coin.

well 10% looked a bit extreme guys...dont you think?

when clintar had 2% fee i mined for 10 days even after removing his fee

but dont you think that 10% is too much? and we already know that you guys mine with optimized miners before us...

I dont say if it is bad or not to have a fee. or mine with optimized miners. after all those that have the skills must gain. I am saying that if fees are extreme people dont like that and will find their way to not pay it... it needs an equilibrium.

I think 10% is way too much. I'd rather have a sensible minimum set, and allow users to set it higher if they want.

At 10% (and this before pool fees), it's hardly surprising that people will try to circumvent it.

Please run it with debug and protocol enabled (-D -P) and PM me some of the output to investigate.

However, most probably it is non-GCN card (hashrate too low), the kernel is known to not work properly on these.

It is a GCN card (Radeon 7850).

How can I redirect the output to a file? The usual '> myfile.txt' doesn't work.
2>myfile.txt should do the trick (it does in Linux fwiw)

That worked - PM sent!
It appears that the kernel is filtering out too many shares for your hashrate (please note it is beta and WIP). Please edit the heavy140312.cl file changing RESULT_MASK on line 1603 to 0xF8000000U or even 0xF0000000U, remove .bin files and try running cgminer again.

That did the trick!

Due to vardiff, you submit higher difficulty shares with faster miner, they are harder to find but cost more. For hashrate display, please mine for 15 minutes as displayed hashrate is averaged over this time.

Been running it for a while now on a separate address, and it's settled in at only 0.04MH/s on http://hvc.1gh.com.

And my per-block share values are about 1/4 what I'm getting from 2 cpu-mining VMs with a hash rate of 0.16 MH/s.

This makes no sense  Huh

But do see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=392322.msg5744577#msg5744577 post. And this applies not just to the version I linked to in my other post; I compiled from source myself and get the same dubious results.
Try intensity 3 or xintensity 102 to 105.

I'm using intensity 3 already. I'm happy enough to get 1.7Mh/s from my card, but that is not the issue. The problem is that the number of shares being found doesn't seem to correlate with the hash rate. On http://hvc.1gh.com, the total hash rate doesn't increase much when I add this GPU miner either, only by ~0.02MH/s.

For the impatient, here is HVC cgminer version that works on 1gh: https://github.com/reorder/cgminer_skein

It currently only works with GCN cards (or so I believe). No binaries are available as it is a WIP, and I will not provide support for this version.

Please configure with './autogen.sh --enable-heavy --enable-opencl' and run with '--heavy --vote 1024' (or your preferred vote). Best intensity setting seems to be 3 for all cards, but you may have luck with higher values.

I'm getting 1.7Mh/s on my card. But I don't seem to be finding shares any faster than a crappy Azure VM that gets 80Kh/s, despite the Mh/s being reported by cgminer. Are you actually finding shares faster, or is there something odd about the speed reported by cgminer?
