This is good. We can always made changes as we go along.

Please put the activity list here so people can add, and then I'll create a master list.

Thanks for the good work!

why wont all of us will set up an exact date and time and pump this coin?
is such thing possible?
i think karma is a great coin

yes. And that's why it doesn't need pumping.

In 3+ years, Karmacoin will still be around in some form. But most other altcoins won't because they don't have a strong foundation.

sure, we can chat about it later.

@karmacoingood

I know the natural inclination for this sort of organic development goes against the following, but it would really help us to get organized and work efficiently. Let me know your thoughts:

1) Decide on the mission statement and make everyone clear about the direction of Karmacoin.

2) Brainstorm to put together a short list of all the things that we need to do in the next 3-6 months. Take a look at other successful and up-and-coming coins (Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Reddcoin, etc) and see what can be borrowed.

3) Get volunteers to take ownership of a part of the task list and have them set their own deadlines and sub-tasks. Even if they can't do it themselves, they can make it their job to find someone to do it.

4) Centralize the task list (I recommend Zoho Projects or some other efficient system)

5) Nominate one person to manage the task list and make sure things get done, and the list is thorough and organized.

6) Regularly communicate on every Karmacoin channel about what we're up to

I know it sounds a bit bureaucratic, but getting organized I think is our first priority. Otherwise, our progress will be exceedingly slow. We still haven't seemed to decide on a logo, slogan, brand, mission statement, etc., because we are not yet organized. It is the difference between success and failure. If we succeed without being organized, that's just luck.

After that, I think the priority is to polish the website to make it more user-friendly and easier to find out what Karmacoin is about and navigate the website.

Some notes about design and branding

We need 1 or 2 people that have experience in website UX and/or graphic design/marketing to make decisions related to UX and design/marketing. (Alternatively, putting together a contest on 99designs and tweaking the submissions as we go along.) We then need to survey 10+ people that 1) are not a part of Karmacoin but may possibly be in future; 2) our target market, to find out how they feel about Karmacoin from the logo/brand

If we have a couple of people here designing and working to continually please a large number of non-designers who have every manner of concerns about design, progress will be nearly impossible.

We're a coin, but "Karmacoin" is still a brand and should be treated as any global brand would be. This is perhaps the most important decision we'll make, and one that needs to be done quickly. Whenever the democratic process is inserted into design decisions chaos ensues. This is what has happened to us. The only voting that should take place is surveying people that do not yet have a stake in Karmacoin. (non-technical people that will be the greatest majority of future users)

In the following link, Marissa Meyer of Yahoo chronicles what happened when they did the same thing that Karmacoin did. The result? A bad logo that was out of touch with what users wanted:  http://marissamayr.tumblr.com/post/60336044815/geeking-out-on-the-logo. Read "Yahoo's Branding Disaster" here: http://www.webdesignerdepot.com/2013/09/yahoos-branding-disaster/

Here, a few people got together to do a memorial for the Jewish Holocaust, and ended up creating a memorial in comic sans font (!) http://fontsinuse.com/uses/2274/war-memorial-in-geffen-nl

Good design will cost a few hundred dollars, but bad design (out of touch with target market) will end up costing us a lot more.

How about the dev focuses on the development, the designers and marketers focus on the design and marketing, and other people focus on their respective roles?

I think 5-6 people should do the trick

We need 1 or 2 people given the authority to coordinate and manage this project and make things happen.

Let's get this over 200 satoshi! Together, we can make this happen.

sounds right.

I would love to, but my personality would not be right for this project. I'm far too passionate. I'm the kind of person that needs to take charge. I move too fast and have too little patience for something like Karmacoin where we all need to work together. It's much slower than a directed effort, but we end up happier. Sure, it might end up being the biggest coin because I work tirelessly and never quit but everyone involved would be exhausted and end up hating me for it Smiley

I can only suggest that we get a few logo ideas together and take a survey of our target market. And also regarding the UI of our website. It should not be up to us to decide these things, because we are too close to it. We should design for newcomers to make it as accessible and as easy as possible. "Test all theories"

You seem to have it together.  Why not run with something and own it?
Our work will now be entering hyperspeed - no time better than now to act.
Hate with respect is admirable :-) - particularly to us experienced souls aware of the effects of complacency.

You can set up a free Karmacoin project at https://projects.zoho.com

You can make it public (or private) and invite other users. If you do, I'll send you my email by PM. (Others can do the same)

That way we can get more organized with tasks and work more efficiently and it's easier to see what people are working on.

If 5 people from this thread want to join, I think we're off to a good start. If you want to set up a project then we've got 2 already. Who else?
7  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC Stolen from Poloniex on: March 04, 2014, 08:43:13 PM
It's not that I find your viewpoint annoying, it is that you feel you have to make 40+(!) posts in one single thread to make yourself heard, simply because most other posters have a different viewpoint than you. My gut feeling tells me that this is probably true for the other(s?) who mentioned it to you also...

It's not about "cultural sensitivities" but just basic forum etiquette. There are a lot of concerned people watching this thread and to make 40+ posts to say things that could be said in a few just seems a little excessive.

I agree with your viewpoint that Busoni have made some mistakes, such as those mentioned above. However, his general handling of this difficult situation has IMO been refreshingly positive compared to what we have seen from other exchanges that have encountered problems in the past.

My gut feeling (and how he dealt with the XCP theft) tells me that Poloniex will come out of this as one of the strongest and most trusted exchanges once this is behind us. Time will tell who of us is right.

This will be my last post on this.

Thanks for your input. Time will tell. Hopefully, I am right about this not being a scam.

Has anyone checked their BTC amount on Poloniex.....mine gone down by 12% to 15%.

It looks like the reduction is happening.

Is it 12.3% for you? Or more than that?

My BTC balance was just taken down 12.3%.  Pleased with the how he is handling this and will stick with him!

When people are refunded their BTC then we can breathe a sigh of relief.

No use getting happy because our BTC balance went down by 12%

+1 Dev

Dev you have been open and honest from the start. Admitting liability and working your hardest to fix this. I have lost BTC in C-Cex and here now. But I must say you have been far more open and honest about not only what happened but how you plan to remedy the situation. Your message about the issue I think also deserves a lot of credit, whilst C-cex has been better than Mt. Gox, I fear their reputation will eventually see them close.

Good work Dev, I will certainly keep using your exchange. For all the users moaning - I suggest you go play on the regulated stock and Fx markets or STFU!

It's funny that you mention them because there's no mention of any problem on their website, either: https://c-cex.com/

Mt. Gox, Coinmarket, C-Cex

Sensing a pattern?
No. Its all in your head.

I suppose you cannot come up with an intelligent or logical argument so personal attacks will suffice.

"You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe!"

Let's get back to being constructive, though we do not agree on all of our constructions. (But I suppose the lesser of us will continue the personal attacks while avoiding the elephant in the room.)

THEN?? I THINK THAT YOUR POLONIEX WILL CLOSE WITH ALL OUR MONEY!

At this point we don't know. Most vocal persons here seem to think that all is ok (per the original post).

However, there is some evidence to suggest that the owner of the exchange is not doing what they can to alert visitors to the website that there is a problem and do their best to stop incoming deposits.

We'd like to think that all will be normal in a few days or weeks (hopefully less) but we can also try to make sure that the owner does what they should be doing right now.

He'd kill the troll box if he was trying to trick people I would think.

A clever thief would pretend business-as-usual, I would think. (See the on-going coinmarket.io drama for reference)

Not saying OP is a thief (I don't believe so) but we should keep our wits about us.
13  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC Stolen from Poloniex on: March 04, 2014, 08:05:32 PM

Why are you so annoying?

If trying to save people from losing their hard-earned money is annoying then I suppose you can go fix yourself.

I agree that there are several unanswered questions such as:

1. Why has a warning not yet been prominently placed on the site to deter further deposits?

2. What is the confirmed address that the funds were sent to, and how much was stolen?

3. Why has no warning email been sent to all registered users informing them of the security breach?

However, I think most of us can appreciate the enormous stress that Busoni is currently under, and I for one choose to believe that he is doing everything he can in the background trying to fix the security holes and deciding on the best way forward in a difficult situation. Some mistakes and not being available for every question on the forum might be a price we have to pay? At least for now.

jtpeters has made 36(!) posts to this thread, each one pointing out that the money is likely being stolen in front of our eyes.

Is that really constructive, and are you surprised people find it annoying?

I think we understand your view on this by now...   Roll Eyes

"are you surprised people find it annoying".. I honestly don't care if 1 or 2 people find my posts annoying. (You should have said "are you surprised 1 other person finds it annoying" by the way, but I guess that would not have sounded authoritative.)

If our actions can save 1 person from potential worry then I don't give two shits about the cultural sensitivities of others. Some people find bad grammar annoying, but should you give a flying fuck?

If the people who feel they lost BTC first read this thread instead of afterwards, then perhaps they could have been saved some trouble.

Do you feel your reply is constructive? Don't answer that.. because doing so would not help anyone. But guess what? Reading my "annoying" posts will help someone. It doesn't matter if you or someone else doesn't like it. I honestly don't care. The pros outweigh the cons, and that's all that matters.

By the way.. you raised some concerns. Has anyone else been talking about these concerns and drawing attention to them? I was the first to express these concerns. Don't be a hypocrite when you're drinking my juice. The three points you raised started with me.

It takes 5 minutes to post something to the website. In the time it took you to count how many posts I've made to this thread (brilliant, by the way) he could have informed all his clients. You're telling me someone can't do that very important thing for 5 minutes of their time in the past 14 hours because they're under stress? It's bullshit. You can call it what you want.

Busoni.

Could you process alt withdrawals please ?

It has nothing to do with the theft.

+1!

Please, cause they are stuck and some ppl are losing even more now cause they can't sell them.

per the original post, "all markets and withdrawals are still frozen, and they will remain that way until the negative balance watcher is written and in place and balance deductions are calculated."

It might be that only the BTC will be deducted 12.3% or both BTC and non-BTC will be deducted 12.3%

If all coins are deducted, this would be far more than the 12.3% of BTC lost. This is an obvious no-no, so I can only assume that (if everything is legit) non-BTC withdrawls will be processed once the "balance watcher" code is in place.

The good folks over at the poloniex "BTC stolen" thread need your help https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=499580.0

They don't realize that, although the owner has posted some info about the indicent, there are still red flags as we speak. Namely that the site is still accepting deposits, has no notice up that the site is down (save for a couple of tweets off to the side), and has not emailed customers.

It has been more than 14 hours since the incident. It is very strange that the website appears normal.

They made a decision to freeze withdrawls but allow deposits. Very fishy. I fear the same thing is happening to poloniex but people are too blind to see. Help them understand before more people potentially lose money.

We all want to believe that the operators of these exchanges are honest. But we can never be sure.

We could do a brainstorming session (On IRC)  and choose the best initiatives to support. I was thinking for example we could support people in Ukraine.

If so it would need to be something that people could focus on.

X was destroyed so Karmacoin is helping those people (school, hospital, etc).

If we focus on the whole of Ukraine or affected areas then I think our effort will be wasted. It needs to be a story that people can relate to and feel for.
19  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC Stolen from Poloniex on: March 04, 2014, 07:28:02 PM
The truth hurts, I suppose. Problem is, we don't know what that is yet. But something sure does stink in here. And the funny thing is that some of you ^ think it's me! Don't shoot the messenger. Just pointing out the obvious.

When you get too emotionally attached to a STOCK or a COIN or an EXCHANGE, you get burned. (Or at least, offended)
20  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC Stolen from Poloniex on: March 04, 2014, 07:24:28 PM
It would take 5 minutes for "Tristan" to put up a notice on the poloniex website regarding the situation, and regarding deposits/withdrawls.

Why has this not yet been done to avoid this ^^^^^ frustration?

No refunds has been given for BTC deposited after the incident. I'll believe it when I see it. (Assuming that all those deposits will have been refunded and not just those of the persons who happen to post here or on http://poloniex.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/forums/1000078491 like coinmarket did to keep the con game going)

Why are you so annoying?

If trying to save people from losing their hard-earned money is annoying then I suppose you can go fix yourself.

How many more people must be frustrated because the OP isn't doing what he should be doing before you do just that? (See above if you don't think it's happening now.. and that's just the people who bother to post)
