1. How do I buy 10 Bitcoins ?
2. Are they are real ? anyone tested them and could redeem for Gox Bitcoin ?

You can buy quantities less than 50 from resellers. Look on Mike's sales page for links to resellers on ebay, bitmit.org, and other sites.

I have redeemed one 2012 1BTC coin through Mt. Gox, and it worked flawlessly.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Just went live: where to send when asked why BTC has value. on: May 20, 2013, 12:46:00 PM
The one that just says "Cyprus" isn't very useful if you haven't been following world financial/political news, like the people I want to send this link to. Could you expand that one, and add some explanation?  Thanks

My partner and I have ordered enough chips for 4 of your 64-chip boards at least. Thanks for the updates, and we are watching this thread with great anticipation!

You may want to post in the actual thread

I'd like to have a way to connect to all the BitcoinTalk.org folks in and around the USA Midwest, to plan meetups, get-togethers, and build community, but there's no way to do that on the current forums, which are only split by language.

Could we consider adding perhaps a "Regions" sub-forum spit by country, and perhaps regions within each country?

- USA

   - Midwest
   - Northwest

- Canada
- Western Europe
- Eastern Europe

How did I miss that you now have a blog?! Update the first post in this thread and put the link in your casascius.com page!

Hey Mike,

What do your stocks of 2012 1BTC coins look like right now, and when do you expect 2013s to come in? Also, when do you expect the 10BTC silver and gold-plated coins to be available?

Cheers,

12  Economy / Speculation / Re: [poll] What Percent of your Net Worth is in Bitcoin? And why? on: February 06, 2013, 07:12:44 PM
I have no idea how to calculate what percent my bitcoin holdings are because my net worth is negative.  Fucking student loans.

In my calculation, I didn't factor in my student loans either. I just summed up all the things I own and found my bitcoin holdings as a percent of that, but I suppose that isn't precisely "net worth".
13  Economy / Speculation / Re: [poll] What Percent of your Net Worth is in Bitcoin? And why? on: February 06, 2013, 03:19:50 PM
Should we count things like bitcoins realated investments (such as shares of SatoshiDice) as bitcoin or not?

Yeah, I think that would be good. I'll make an edit-note of it in the original post. Thanks!
14  Economy / Speculation / [poll] What Percent of your Net Worth is in Bitcoin? And why? on: February 06, 2013, 02:52:15 PM
Hello everybody,

I'm curious what percent of your net worth you keep in bitcoin, especially as this thread grows and takes on a life of its own over the months and years.

When doing the math for yourself, sum up the value of all the assets you own: your bitcoins, liquid assets (cash), illiquid assets (house, car, etc), gold/silver, 401k, investments, and your bank accounts. Divide your bitcoins' worth by the sum total and report back here! A spreadsheet is helpful.

I recently did a survey of my personal finances, and to my surprise, I'm at 0.832%. I spend much more than 0.832% of my time thinking about bitcoin, so this made me wonder why I'm so fascinated by something I have so little stake in. I plan to increase my holdings over time, until bitcoins make roughly 10-15% of the total. Of course, as bitcoins grow in value, this will happen slowly and gradually, but I've made the conscious decision to migrate some of my worth from dollars and stocks to bitcoin, which I trust and support much more than the US financial system.

What are your thoughts? Why are you (or aren't you) more or less invested in bitcoin, on a personal level? How did you get to be so invested (or so little-invested) in bitcoin?

Cheers,
jtibble

EDIT: Also count bitcoin-related-investments as bitcoin as well, since they can be quickly liquidated back into bitcoin. Thanks!
15  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: January 29, 2013, 02:41:54 PM
Hi again everybody, and Kangasbros!

Another feature request: The ability to chose how long to lock-in a price for, as another parameter in the ad-creation process.

Like this: I create a "sell" add with my formula, and as part of that process I can specify how long after a buyer submits their request that I will honor the price decided upon.

For example, I want to limit my contacts to 2 days, max. Because the price is rising 5% per day (it seems), if somebody sends me a 'buy' request and it takes me four days to actually sell them the coins, I'm losing a lot of money, even if my margins are 9%!

However, if I can specify how long the price is locked-in for, it lets me cancel the transaction and still save face if the wait is too long. I have my 'seller message' saying that I only honor prices for two days, but it seems like a good idea to allow people to search or sort by this sort of option.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
jtibble

P.S. What's to stop me exploiting this with other sellers, submitting a 'buy' order, then waiting several days to complete it, and getting the coins at an extreme discount vs the current market spot price? My morals and scruples say 'no, don't do that', but it would be good (I think) if your service codified it.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There has to be a better way (getting USD to BTC) on: January 25, 2013, 09:07:12 PM
Look into Localbitcoins.com

Their markups are reasonable (for the convenience of having your coins within days, or even hours), and if you're dealing with a good seller, they'll have enough BTC on-hand to meet any of your needs. And they can do the ACH and slow transfer stuff behind the scenes (like a buffer).

Anyways, check it out. I use it a lot to sell and make contacts with buyers.

There's 1 person about 5 miles from me but he's asking for $22USD/BTC....

Thanks though, I think I have a number of options to look into.  Maybe once I accumulate enough I can sell locally and get some of those ridiculous spreads down.

Mebbe he didn't update recently.  Send him a message?

I've found, as a seller, that I have to charge a 5 or 6% premium, to cover the 2% fee by going through BitInstant, and to make it worth my while. This guy must have it at like, 10%. But if he's dominating the market, he can charge exorbitantly.

Hey Kangasbros, another couple of feature requests:

- Ability to remove contacts from my dashboard. I have a lot of 'cancelled' contracts and they're cluttering up the screen, making it hard to find the ones that actually got released (for accounting purposes).

- Ability to sort my listings by city/zipcode. I think right now they're sorted by date created, which makes it hard to find the one I'm looking for

- Ability to change the message across all of my buy or sell advertisements at the same time.

- Ability to change my transaction limits across all my buy/sell ads at the same time, too.

Thanks again for all your hard work on this site! Keep promoting and building it up!
20  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] LocalBitcoins.com - a location-based bitcoin to cash marketplace on: January 08, 2013, 09:40:08 PM
Feature requests:

- Ability to re-negotiate a 'buy' or 'sell' contact after a period of time. Hypothetical example: I have a buyer from a month ago who didn't stay in touch, and now they want to buy. But the contact is fixed at the rate it was a month ago, and doesn't reflect market prices. I'd love to have the option to update the request without cancelling and having the buyer/seller re-send the request.

- Ability for seller to auto-cancel a contact with a buyer if the buyer doesn't respond after a certain period of time (two weeks?). If the seller sends a message to a buyer, which doesn't receive a reply within a given amount of time, it auto-cancels the contact and sends a message to the buyer, "Buy request cancelled due to inactivity" or such, so the buyer knows they're to blame for not continuing the back-and-forth communication (not the seller being evil for cancelling a buy order).

Just a couple of thoughts. Thanks kangasbros for your hard work!
