Haha it's fun. good time to try out testnet wallets.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: HD (bip32) paper wallet + mobile phone balance monitoring and address generation on: September 23, 2014, 10:37:20 PM
wallet32 is a bip32 android wallet that I've heard good things about. You should see whether it allows you to add an extended public key as a watch only "account". So this solves the problem of android wallet.

But as far as generating the actual bip32 master private key goes you are going to face problems. You see the standard for the seed is supposed to be bip39 but there don't seem to be any wallets out there that support it for offline generation. bip32.org uses its own concoction for converting passphrase/mnemonic to seed.

If you can live without an android wallet I suggest using electrum. It's not hd and it doesn't support bip39 but it has a system for offline wallets and it is tried and tested.

There can be legit sigs like yours and mine (where there's either public service stuff or personal projects), but no matter how much we beg for the sig ad spamming to be stopped, it never happens.

And who will determine what is a legit sig and what is not? Sounds like socialism to me.
5  Other / Meta / Re: Just remove signatures already. As in delete, disable, gone. on: September 18, 2014, 10:37:06 AM
I suggest a) remove all signatures b) reduce the interval between posts for newbies because waiting sucks. 6 minutes is too long. Make it 1 minute instead.

In the meantime you can disable signatures in your profile under 'look and layout preferences' > 'Don't show users' signatures.' BTW this option is probably going to be used to justify keeping signatures around. "Why you can disable it if you don't like it" they will say.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is it a bad idea to have a wallet with 10s of thousands of addresses? on: September 18, 2014, 10:17:33 AM
Well rescan is not really a concern here, since we are talking about bitcoind node that's up 24/7 on a dedicated server.
I'm more concerned if it would make using the wallet slower for the front end app or cause other problems.

That doesn't matter because Armory takes the blockchain data and reprocesses it into the Armory database and that is what takes long.  Rescan means Armory is scanning that data for transactions associated with the addresses in the wallet.
who the f*** is talking about armory at all dude?
Check OP twice, please.

Either way, "dude," scanning and keeping the node updated are 2 different things.

Well nobody is talking about scanning either. You high bro?

I think that's a woman you are talking to. No really.

Anyway, on topic, I did hear about btc-e facing problems because they had 100s of thousands of addresses to track. Most exchanges use custom software because of this sort of thing.

1. It does matter
2. Why? Shorena is a java programmer. Are you saying women can't code?

Let's take it easy on the newbie.  Smiley could anyone recommend the best way to multiply btc. I have saved up .0197 btc this week and would like to know the best method to multiply it. Thanks.

You use a calculator to do arithmetic. The * or X symbol is for multiplication.

If you go to page 15,257,181 you'll find my address listed. It's got 0.167 btc in it.

So the story is that someone came from the future created  established bitcoin and went back to the future to get his/her big fat check.
Hell yeah, I would watch that film. Maybe add some apocalyptic scenario at the end like the Paycheck
No, I think Satoshi's "first" future was the apocalyptic world, that's why he travelled back in time. See, in Satoshi's timeline, Bitcoin hadn't been invented before the extremely violent fiat economic collapse. Billions were killed in the nuclear war that followed.

So he traveled back in time to invent bitcoin 30 years before the collapse, creating a new timeline free from the apocalypse of his childhood. Maybe throw some aliens in there just to mix it up.

That is briliant, lets finance a movie with that scenario

We'll call it "Bitcoin: All your Coinbase are belong to us"
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Really basic question on wallets / exchange on: September 16, 2014, 05:14:01 PM
IF you buy through an exchange, withdraw the coins and store them in your wallet (do not leave them sitting in the exchange). If you are day trading or something, then you have to risk it if you do not want to miss big gains (ups and downs happen too fast, this mean by the time you send your BTC from your wallet to the exchange, the party would be over). But I think you arent interested in this and you want to just hold, so yeah, buy withdraw and hold.

You can also use LocalBitcoins.

All of this makes sense when the bitcoin price is going up but these days it's going down.

What you should do is hold off on buying. Buy when the price has bottomed out. You'll know when that's happened when it stops going down and starts going up again and keeps going up. That's when you buy.

If you've already bought then sell it and wait for the above to buy back in.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto is a time traveler on: September 16, 2014, 04:39:02 PM
Only a time traveller would make a currency where:

- It takes 10 minutes for one confirmation of a transaction and you need at least 3.

- You need to download 10s of gigs of blockchain data and then verify it all before you can get started. All of this takes days and you haven't even done a single transaction yet!

- You need 10s of gigs of hard drive space and there's only so much pr0n you can delete.

- It's inflationary in the short to medium term but deflationary in the long term (if it survives that long).

You see a time traveller doesn't have to suffer any of the above. He can just hop into the future in his trusty time machine to avoid waiting. He enjoys the tech of the future which means petabyte hard drives so no need to delete anything. And he's paid nothing for his coins which might someday be worth trillions. It's the perfect currency for a time traveller.

15  Other / Off-topic / Re: What generally characterizes an atheist? on: September 16, 2014, 04:24:57 PM
Atheists are people who don't want to follow a religion because it's a pain in the butt.
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Really basic question on wallets / exchange on: September 16, 2014, 04:18:12 PM
Most bitcoins are stored on exchanges. People with desktop wallets are in the minority. I imagine most bitcoiners don't even know that desktop wallets exist. They think the exchange is the wallet. These people do not frequent this forum. These are the lessons we learnt from the Gox collapse.
17  Other / Off-topic / Re: Am I the only girl on here? : ( on: September 16, 2014, 04:09:19 PM
Everytime I try to mention Bitcoins while hanging out with girlfriends they always look confused and change the subject, yet they're not "dumb girls", they've been to Uni, spend a lot of time online, have paypal acc's, online banking, etc. Why are they so reluctant to hear about Bitcoins?

Maybe because you sound like a preacher trying to sell a religion? Don't do that. Only talk about bitcoin if you are asked about it and even then be brief.

19  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What can I use Bitcoin miners for other than mining? on: September 16, 2014, 03:51:06 PM
There is another thing you could do. You could put in a catapult and fling it at an ASIC manufacturer. A large enough catapult and it might just reach China.
20  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What can I use Bitcoin miners for other than mining? on: September 16, 2014, 03:43:11 PM
You can export it as e-waste to third world countries where child labourers will hack at in order to extract some value. In doing so they will become poisoned, the water supply will become poisoned and all the babies that are born there will have deformities.
