1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitStamp ripple payment system down! on: March 12, 2013, 10:06:50 PM
They have outages from time to time but it doesn't last long. Overall, Bitstamp ripple gateway is very reliable.

You are over-due to update that info.
My transfer has taken 2.5 almost 3 DAYS, and Sat. morning they said "don't worry we are working on it".

BitStamp ripple (BitStamp IOU's for BTC) to BitStamp BTC is DOWN!
still down...
still down... still down...

Did your transaction ever go through?  I made one on 3/7/2013 and still have nothing.. support says they are processing the transaction manually.. but I still have nothing

Hi,

I apologize. Please send me your Transaction ID via PM.

Best regards
Nejc

Well, this is a surprise. I am afraid your bank has provided you with some misinformation.

What happens if a withdraw is bigger then all available funds in the hot wallet?

Hi,

We get notification and your withdraw goes to queue. Once we refill our wallet your withdraw is automatically processed.

I am sorry for your deposits were not processed right away. Unfortunately BitInstant has run out of reserves meaning your accounts couldn't be funded instantly.

Your deposits should get processed shortly as BitInstant has just funded their account.

On the bitcoin widthraw page it says:
"Large withdrawals will be processed manually. This process will take up to 24 hours."

So how much is "Large" ?

http://bitstamp.net

Depending on bitcoin price, amounts greater than $20,000 equivalent in bitcoin is considered large bitcoin withdraw.

Nejc could be a little more communicative (at least on this forum) but besides that there's absolutely nothing to complain about.

I will try to be more active on this thread. Thank you for pointing out.

I hope that Nejc or Charlie provides a "indicator" somewhere ASAP.    Tongue

I've just sent email to our programmer to add Bitinstant balance parameter to API. Hopefully you will find this useful.

Tuesday at 11am access to Bitstamp was disrupted due to a DDoS attack. Bitstamp responded by upgrading its DDoS mitigation capabilities and recovered full accessibility at 8pm.

Service has been fully restored and no Bitcoins or client information were ever at risk or lost.

Additionally, to help make up for the inconvenience caused by the service outage, Bitstamp will be providing commission free trading until Sunday 21th.

Dear Stephen,

Bitstamp is very concerned with security and safety of customer funds.

In answer to your questions:

- Bitstamp is using cold storage.

- Bitstamp currently keeps 85% - 90% of bitcoins in cold storage.

- Bitstamp currently has new deposits going to our live wallet. This will change in the near future and new deposits will go directly to cold storage.

- Bitstamp’s offline wallet is installed on a dedicated server that is only turned on when access to the bitcoin client is needed. This server is in a different location than the main server.

- Bitstamp maintains a full reserve of client USD funds and BTC funds.

- Bitstamp maintains a full offsite database backup.

- Bitstamp plans to address the handling of compromises in our forthcoming terms and conditions document.

Thank you for questions.

Best regards,
CEO, Nejc Kodrič

Thank you gusti and ricklandman for sharing your experience. I really appreciate that!

Also I want to announce two small new features that some might find this very useful.

-Bitstamp now allows you to add new deposit addresses. We require only 3 network confirmations. You can request new deposit address every 24 hours. (https://www.bitstamp.net/account/deposit/bitcoin/)

-You can see incoming bitcoin transactions on your account dashboard (https://www.bitstamp.net/account/balance/)

I am happy to hear suggestions or feedbacks from you.

But so that the terminology is clear.

If I had a Swiss bank account and was sending funds to Bitstamp, I could do a SEPA direct debit but that is in EUR only, right?  And then otherwise, from that Swiss bank account I could instead do an international wire, and then send either EUR or USD.

Am I describing the transfer methods correctly?

Yes, SEPA transfers can be done ONLY in EUR currency.

If you have Swiss bank account with EUR balance you can transfer via SEPA. Your funds will be then converted to USD on our end and then added to your bitstamp balance. But since Switzerland is only member of SEPA but not EU, transfers are charged with standard international wire fee.

You can also send internatonal wire in CHF and we will convert it to USD.

Please let me know if I answered your question.

Just want to drop by and commend these guys/gals on their hard work.
Keep up the great customer service and I'm sure you'll have many more customers coming your way  Cool

Very happy customer here! 10/10

Thank you very much for leaving your feedback. Much appreciated!

So transfers from Switzerland, for instance.  They would be SEPA direct debits after the Swiss bank converts to EUR?   (which Bitstamp then converts to USD?)

Yes but please note that Switzerland is not full member of SEPA zone so transfers in EUR carry out same fee as international bank wires.
We can accept/send in CHF, EUR or USD from/to Switzerland. Fee is always the same - $15 (deducted when amount is in USD)

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

great service, as beginer used mtgox... but after some time, and hearing about many btcs stolen from them.. looked for another exchange, found bitstamp, and now i am using it for about 3 months, and i can say i like it very much.. keep going this way  Cool

Thank you very much! We appreciate your feedback.

15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [ANN] Community translates Bitstamp to multiple languages on: July 16, 2012, 10:06:58 AM
Dear Bitcoin community,

Bitstamp is dedicated to making Bitcoin a success. As part of our efforts, we wanted to make Bitcoin accessible to more non-English speakers. To do this we opened the translation of Bitstamp to the community. And, the community responded!

We are happy to announce that the community has contributed 5 translations for our exchange:

Further, we are now advertising Bitcoin and Bitstamp in these languages. This should expose both Bitcoin and Bitstamp to an even larger audience.

If you’d like to translate Bitstamp to your own language please see this announcement.

16  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitstamp USD strange activity and how it'scasuing overall arbitrage on: June 27, 2012, 11:16:43 AM
Hey,

It is not a bug. Those stairs probably show our instant trade mechanism.

Quote from our FAQ:
When you place an instant order, we add an order at the current bid or ask price (depending on the type of the order). If there is not enough bitcoins available at that price, your order will remain open until someone sells or buys additional bitcoins at that price. Our trading engine will then reposition your order every 10 minutes to the current order book offer.

Rise in volume is result of large new investor into bitcoin buying at bitstamp.

Nejc Kodrič

18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitstamp adds support for two-factor authentication. on: June 21, 2012, 08:54:47 PM
Interesting approach. What would happen to your exchange if Google decided that it wouldn't authenticate your users any more?

I see Arthur already answered pretty nicely. Great thing about google authenticator is that it is free, simple to set up and instantly available to anybody with supported mobile phone.

Very nice, Nejc Kodrič !

Thank you

19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [ANN] Bitstamp adds support for two-factor authentication. on: June 21, 2012, 11:14:52 AM
Dear Bitcoin community,

As part of our on going development, Bitstamp has added free support for two-factor authentication with instant setup. Details are included below.

We would also like to thank our customers and the Bitcoin community for making Bitstamp’s outstanding growth a reality.  Bitstamp now regularly ranks as the 3rd largest USD Bitcoin exchange, by 30 day volume, according to http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/.

For those unfamiliar with Bitstamp:
  • Bitstamp has been serving Europe and the world since August 2011.
  • Our website features a proprietary simple and easy to use user interface.
  • We offer free SEPA deposits and fixed 0.90€ SEPA withdrawals. Most transfers happen overnight.
  • We provide excellent and responsive customer support.
  • We actively develop Bitstamp to improve its services.

For more details, including our low fees and our volume discount program, please visit our site: https://www.bitstamp.net

Two-factor Authentication
Two-factor authentication better protects your account. Instead of just relying on a password to access your account, to access your account with two-factor authentication you will need your password and a particular device such as your mobile phone.

Google Authenticator
Google Authenticator is a free mobile application that allows you to generate 2-step verification codes on your smartphone without a network connection.

Supported Devices
  • Android version 2.1 or later
  • BlackBerry OS 4.5 - 6.0
  • iPhone iOS 3.1.3 or later

Enabling Google Authenticator
  • Login your Bitstamp account and go to the bottom of the Settings page.
  • Click on Enable two-factor authentication.
  • Scan QR code with your device to setup.
  • Insert 6 digit authentication code from your device and click Enable two-factor authentication.

How to login with two-factor authentication enabled
  • Login as usual: Enter your client ID and password.
  • Enter the 6 digit code displayed in your mobile Google authenticator
  • Click Authenticate.

What if I lose my phone
When setting up your two-factor authentication on your mobile phone you must note and safely store the provided 16 character code. With that code you can install authenticator to other devices if yours breaks down or gets lost. Without that code Bitstamp cannot grant you access to your account.
