What I ended up doing was wait 5 minutes until it connected, then turned off the checkbox to automatically select a server. That way I always use the "good" server I found.

Can I downgrade electrum for it to connect. I've completely emptied my wallet so there's no risk of a phishing attack doing anything..

Bitmaxz, is cloudflare capable of that? I though since clients connect to electrum in a manner that is similar to a bot then therell be a load of issues... If anyone has a private electrum node set up and fancies giving someone a hand the let me know. (also why don't we just try dosing that bad electrum server)....
All Electrum clients were forced to upgrade recently due to phishing vulnerabilities so downgrading won't help. I've found that Electrum does connect but you have to be patient and wait a few minutes. It's annoying because it used to connect instantly but not a show-stopper. Cloudflare probably won't help in this situation. |

What if our government add tax whenever we transact fiat-crypto and vice versa, and the fund will be used for our protection(ICO,Scams,Phishings), for example the government will make a group or sector that focuses on crypto environtment. what do you think?
It's a horrible idea. Government is the problem, not the solution to problems. The true purpose of cryptocurrencies is libertarianism and disintermediation. Big centralized government is the opposite of this. |

After you sort your issues out, you might consider switching to a thin client like Electrum (sorry Armory guys). If you're on DSL then you're right about syncing a full node taking forever. With a thin client you don't have to worry about running a full node any more.
I'm sure Armory is a good client but your situation is such that running a full node is too burdensome.

Here's something else to consider. I was using the Windows 10 box with MS Office and TurboTax to feed my weather station to the Weather Underground web site. I needed it to stay online 24/7 to do this but Windows 10 will download and install updates and reboot even if I turn updates off. Highly annoying. I ended up using a Raspberry Pi with Linux as the weather server and it stays up for months at a time now.
Bottom line: if you need a server, use Linux not Windows home or pro editions.

It has been so long since I owned a windows computer I don't know how to use it anymore. Linux is so much better that I can't imagine dealing with all the B.S. of windows.
Seriously, how do you windows users do it? I would take a hammer to my computer within a day, lol.

The only things I need Windows for are Excel and TurboTax. INB4 "Use Calc" and "Use Wine": - LibreOffice Calc does not support everything in Excel
- Excel does not run under Wine
- TurboTax does not run under Wine
- My taxes are too complicated to use TurboTax online
If it weren't for these things I'd use Linux exclusively. |

In a private blockchain, miners aren't needed. This is because all nodes in the private network are known and trusted. Users of the private network create signed messages that are recorded in the blockchain. Any computational or storage costs are shared by the private blockchain users. Think of a consortium of 100 banks seeking to reduce costs and increase efficiency by clearing transactions among themselves. (Right now banks use clearinghouses for this) Every bank has its own copy of the blockchain so it's not centralized. They communicate over a secure network (i.e. not the internet) and use their own servers for storage and processing. Keep in mind that the private blockchain I described is not Bitcoin but probably some kind of smart contracts like Ethereum. |

One critical difference between public and private blockchains: private blockchains don't need miners. Since the blockchain is private that means all nodes connected to the blockchain are known and trusted there is no need for miners.
An example of a private blockchain would be smart contracts for settlements between banks.
Obviously an example of a public blockchain is Bitcoin.

You DON'T have to order one and wait... you missed the point: Most (all?) of the hardware wallets use BIP39/44 compatible seeds and can be restored by most HD wallets It is the equivalent of replacing your PC with other unused PC's you have lying about... you can just restore your hardware wallet into any compatible wallet you want... even Electrum! I don't know why people seem to think that once you migrate to a Hardware wallet, you're locked into?  OK, OK I learned something new today. The reason people think you're locked in probably has to do with poor marketing. I never really intended to get one because of the the "ooh, shiny" hype going on. |

No, OP is going to use an ATM and feed bills into it. It can be done without banking if you have a cash hoard. YES and no cash hoard lol. I just don't want to use my bank account at all. All I'm trying to figure out how to do is buy bitcoin and then send to another person every now and then. I don't and won't do any banking online and I never sync my account to anything. My computer is a garden variety PC which can be easily replaced with one of the other unused ones I have lying about. Exactly like what you would do with a hardware wallet... Most (all?) of the hardware wallets use BIP39/44 compatible seeds and can be restored by most HD wallets... Unlike Electrum seeds... which are Electrum only  That's fine except i'd have to order one and wait. Plus hardware wallets are closed source so I have now way to know how much to trust them. Electrum is Python and I can run it right from source without an installer. |
