1  Other / Meta / Re: 🍕 Bitcoin Pizza Day on Bitcointalk on: May 29, 2024, 11:12:14 PM
Here's mine. Italians call this product an abomination, since it's the type of pizza you either love or hate. Personally, I love the taste, you be the judge.

I forgot to take a photo of my name with the pizza before we ate it all, so I have one with an empty wooden plate that I served it on.
Hope that still counts as proof Wink
2  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: May 29, 2024, 07:59:06 PM

That's a big problem, you should always consider direct and indirect consequences of your actions. Geopolitics it a lot more nuanced than cartoonish good/bad guys. Expecting Russia to behave differently with Ukraine than US did with Cuba, is the definition of hypocrisy and double standards, so both must be either bad or good. I consider buying into, either NATO spreads to Ukraine or Russia is bad, ultimatum as being brainwashed. Guess that's exactly the reason why in this case no one wants you to exercise your critical thinking skills and look at this conflict holistically, just concentrate on this specific action in a complete void  Undecided

You take me for a US supporter, which I'm not. The US did a a lot of bad things, especially in Vietnam and Iraq, but it doesn't change the fact that Russia is doing these things as we speak.
I wouldn't compare the stance of NATO to what Russia is doing. It's clearly on a different level.

@coolcoinz - By now you probably figured out you are dealing here with people who are most likely paid or otherwise Kremlin trolls. There arguments are always the same, regardless of the situation (Ukraine is a possession of Ruzzia, the West is evil, if Ruzzia does something bad the West is doing something worse, "we need peace... but with an Ukrainian surrender", "the western weapons do not work", "the western weapons do not make a difference", ...)

Facts are questioned, while alternative (but proof-less) reality is put forward. denial is constant.

It is very predictable. When they call for "brotherhood" they are calling for your surrender and their dominance (they will be the "Big Brother" in all senses. Ukrainians will not have peace, they will be sent to the next conflict fighting for Moscow.

Briefly, it works like this:

@Branko - Russia can do no wrong. If they obviously do, NATO is worse, and everything is "the same". If he saw a picture of Moscow burning he would post one of a fire in a dumpster in Los Angeles to prove the above point.
@daRude - May be two people or more.  (a) Everything is always bad for Ukraine (collecting all the news that support that, while ignoring any oher). If Ukraine has an obviously positive news, then question, doubt, alternative reality,...(b) He wans peace - meaning an Ukrainian surrender, nothing else.
@BA - He is absolutely confused about nearly anything in life or... he works for China.
@be.open - I am not sure if a paid troll, but the user or users are  the victims of watching the Ruzzian TV for many years.

I come here from time to time, usually after a few weeks break from posting in this thread to check if anything has changed. In fact one of my posts is on the very first page of this thread because I feel sympathy for Ukrainians since my parents lived in a country "liberated" by the Soviet Union and I know how people wanted to finally kick these liberators out of their country.

Russians were like neighbor's cows that wander into your field and lay there eating grass and screaming and cursing will not get them to move. You either have to get some dogs to scare them away, or use a whip. They were sitting there for decades drinking vodka, taking natural resources and giving nothing in return until the collapse of the Soviet union and protests of the local population made them run back to Mother Russia.

I'd never wish for any country to become a part of Russia, especially when that process is accompanied by what we saw in Bucha, or earlier in Katyn.

That said, you're really stubborn and dedicated, I give you that. Some Ukrainian officials should send you a medal for years of service.
On the other hand, the attitude presented by some Russians here reminds me of Lavrov. When they see you with a hand in the cookie jar, say it's not your hand. When they see you eating the cookie, say that someone stuffed it into your mouth by force.
3  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can anti gamblers accept cash from gamblers when they're in dire financial needs on: May 29, 2024, 07:39:11 PM
There's a saying that "money talks" which means that you can have your disagreements, but many things change when there's money on the table.

I know so many stories when my own family members who did not like each other and did not talk for years suddenly came together to settle because there was some money to be made from inheritance or they had a piece of land that none of them used and a buyer came around and gave them good price. Suddenly the disagreements disappeared and they sat at one table, talking and joking, but when the deal was done there was no more talking.

Yes people who hate you, be it for gambling or not, will eventually come to ask you for a favor and it's up to you whether you help them or not.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Converting bitcoin to fiat without problems on: May 29, 2024, 07:26:33 PM
I have to be honest here that I was really afraid they might treat me like a money launderer, so I did extensive research, looking into banks that don't ban clients for transferring money from and to bitcoin exchanges. For that I've contacted a guy that I knew who was a localbitcoins trader for a few years and asked him which banks gave him problems and which did not and I made an account with the bank he told me about.

When it comes to taxes, there was completely no problems since bitcoin is considered a legal investment in the EU, so as long as the bank accepts the money and you pay tax, the government will not interfere.

That said, I no longer declare my bitcoin and prefer to exchange it for cash p2p.
5  Economy / Speculation / Re: What happens when the big Bitcoin whales stops buying? on: May 28, 2024, 08:00:11 PM
Funny that you're asking because what will happen if big whales also stop selling? The market is healthy and everything remains in balance. For one whale selling now is an opportunity to buy something he wants and for his friend buying is an opportunity because, for instance, his parent died an his fortune became even bigger thanks to inheritance.

When one whale stops buying another will start. You can't make everybody leave bitcoin behind just like that, unless you manage to scare people always somehow, for instance by issuing a ban.
6  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: May 28, 2024, 07:31:20 PM
Everyone understood that you were Eastern European without you explicitly saying it  Grin
That logic is flawed on the surface, but are you seriously not even thinking through to the second step? Even if we don't care about Ukrainian lives/statehood, don't you think that policy of punishing Russia by flooding China with cheap resources will backfire and result in far worse consequences? Or we're just so blinded by "Russia=bad" brainwashing that we don't care about anything else?

I focus on what's close and the way I see it, the conflict is local. It's not the US vs China, but Ukraine vs Russia that we're talking about. What's happening here and now is Russians and Ukrainians killing each other with the help of weapons sent to them by other countries. China is playing it's own game trying to take over Taiwan and I'm of course against that.
It's interesting that you feel like we have to be "brainwashed" to think that Russia is bad. Have you ever considered that Russia might actually be bad, or are you blinded by propaganda coming straight from Kremlin?
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't advice anyone to invest on Bitcoin if he doesn't have Alt. income on: May 28, 2024, 07:07:08 PM
sometimes he tells me that he's afraid to invest his money on the bitcoin due to the potential losses.

You potentially could lose everything you own. It's possible for your house to burn down, your bank to go bankrupt, your car to be stolen. Are you afraid it will happen? Are you losing sleep every night thinking about it? I sure don't.

Yes' there's a chance to lose everything when you buy bitcoin, but there's also a chance to lose it all when you continue to hold fiat money.
IMO buying bitcoin is one of the smartest things you can do in life.
8  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: May 27, 2024, 08:16:49 PM
You should look at this war as geopolitical game, not through child eyes as fight between good and evil

UK and USA cheer every dead Ukrainian as well as dead Russian...both are gain for them

WW2 was same

Are you really comparing WW2 to this? Sure I'll follow your logic.
Do you know why the West cheered every dead Russian? Because Russians were the aggressors along with Germans, they just happen to have a disagreement somewhere allowing the way.

In WW2 Germans and Russians were like 2 wolves sharing one prey, be it a deer, and one thought he's the stronger one and can have all the meat, so he jumped the other one while it was eating and you're surprised that the other animals came to watch and give themselves high fives while the wolves bled?

I'm an Eastern European and from my perspective the bigger the Russian losses the better. I won't shed a tear for your soldiers. They go to war for money and it's their choice to kill Ukrainians. The more of these murderers and invaders die out there, the less we'll have to deal with when the time comes.
9  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A strategy of winning current “nuclear quasi war” on: May 27, 2024, 07:59:16 PM
There's 2 basic types of nuclear weapons tactical and strategic. A tactical strike on Ukraine would not cause NATO to retaliate, but a strategic strike would likely trigger a conventional response. NATO would not nuke Russia, but would send its troops to Ukraine claiming that it wants to assess the damage, radiation, and help victims. If those forces got attacked by Russians, we'd have an all out war.

What's the difference between tactical and strategic nukes? Tactical can be launched from many different delivery systems. I don't think it's being done at the moment, but technically a shoulder fired system like a javelin could carry a tactical nuke. The power of that is small enough to level a part of a town, or a small village, without too much pollution.
10  Economy / Gambling / Re: I would like to place a $1,000,000 bet on: May 24, 2024, 07:26:01 PM
Loolz bud, 1 million dollars is an outrageous amount to put into one bet, and this is assuming you even have such an amount of money, because I have been seeing and reading some of your posts and comments around this forum, and sorry to say but you don't seem to me, or pass out the impression like someone who owns such or more of such amount of money.

You can never know. It's usually the most normal looking people that throw money around. Those that wear flashy clothes are usually just attention seekers and wannabees (just as people who make threads about betting a million without posting a single screenshot for proof).

Anyway, I've been to the dealerships to buy a car wearing normal everyday clothes and people (especially couples) would look like they took their church clothes out of the closet just to look more serious, be noticed. They'd look around like they're in a gallery and seek attention from the salesmen, but they wouldn't buy anything, so who knows, 1m is not that much, especially for an early bitcoin investor.
11  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: When you are confident with your picks, do you win most of the time? on: May 24, 2024, 07:09:39 PM
Unfortunately no. I had a lot of picks in my life where I was pretty confident and they turned out to be disappointing.

A great example was world cup 2018 where everybody was betting for the Germans (former champions) to get at the very least to semifinals and they ended on 20th something place. I had so many bets where I felt strong over the years. Especially in UFC you can never be sure, like in that last fight where Gaethje was knocked out in the last minute of the last round.
12  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Where Will It Go If The Money Comes From Illegal Source on: May 24, 2024, 06:49:49 PM
Normally such money should go to the government but I've never heard of such happening before when a casino returns money back to the government and j think that should be the right thing to do, but I don't think there are acting based on or working with government agents but rather anyone who defaults the law they trace I and lawfully retain the money but they don't submit it to the government.

Which government? I'll give you a typical situation that happens all the time.

The casino owner is from counytry A.
The casino is registered in country B and it gets its license from there.
The player is from country C.
The person whose money was stolen is from country D.
Often the person who lost the money lost it on an exchange or platform registered in country E and that's where the theft occured.

Who should get the money?
13  Other / Politics & Society / Re: China deploys army around Taiwan on: May 24, 2024, 06:38:28 PM
New president can grow taiwanese moral, so china is doing everything they can to demoralize taiwanese people. I am guessing this is just show of force and in CCP is signal that Taiwan and William Lai specifically are toothless and powerless if china decides to make a move. And undermining their authority like this was to be suspected. They are testing waters of defence pacts like Russia is testing Natos. At some point they will cross a line, and most likely situation is either Russian forces or China's forces are sunken or dropped from the sky, and we de-escalate from that, rather then going to full war. At least i hope so.

Taiwan is in a worse situation than NATO with Russia because if you compare military firepower NATO is much stronger than Russia. Putin even said it himself that the US alone is spending much more on military every year than Russia, so they will not seek a conflict they cannot win. Even NATO without the US is much stronger than Russia, especially in the air.

Taiwan on the other hand is much weaker than China. It's more of a David vs Goliath situation. It can't even be compared to Ukraine VS Russia. It's more like if Russia was fighting Finland before it joined NATO.
14  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling bad to the society? on: May 23, 2024, 07:57:47 PM
It's like in physics, the energy never disappears it just changes form and it's the same with the money. Whether you spend money in a casino, waste it on netflix subscriptions, get a plastic surgery, or a new car, the money changes hands, moves around.

You could say that casinos are bad, but they pay taxes, they help circulate money, they move wealth from one person to the other.

Do you really believe that the gambling addict who wastes money every single day on a slot machine would spend time with his family if there was no casino? He's doing that to escape the family life, hios job and reality. Many of these people would become drug addicts or alcoholics. That's how I see it.

You can';t make the world better by removing a casino because people will find other ways to gamble.
15  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If all your wages were paid in USDT, would you accept it? on: May 23, 2024, 07:11:53 PM
Why not? I do not spend in USD in the store either. Here, it's kind of different. If you are working in the IT sector or a company that is related to crypto currency, you should not have a problem accepting a salary in USDT. It's not rocket science to sell USDT for your preferred currency. I am still getting my salary in USDT and constantly sell them for my local currency, and my local currency arrives within a couple of minutes.

I am not going to hold USDT. I convert them to my local currency right after I receive them. But sometimes I hold USDT if I plan to invest in cryptocurrency. Actually, it varies from place to place and person to person.

I get it, if you're in a country where you don't use USD and an employee would give you a choice to either get paid in dollar that you have to convert, or USDt that you also have to convert, USDt will produce lower fees and probably be faster to exhange online. Also, in such situation USDt would give you an option to convert it into bitcoin fast and cheap.

I was talking from the point of view of someone who earns in EURO and would either get fiat money or USDt. In such case I'd rather take EUR since I have plenty of BTC and would rather hold that and spend my fiat. Spending EUR here is much easier and cheaper than converting USDt through an exchange since I'd have to pay additional fee on that.
16  Economy / Economics / Re: Idea of btc is genius the limited supply that's why i think it's safe heaven on: May 23, 2024, 06:53:24 PM
I wonder if bitcoin has no use case and no practical application, how does the fact that bitcoin has a limited supply come into play?

I hope you're just being sarcastic here. If you are then ignore this post because humor is sometimes difficult to understand when one reads a post.

Bitcoin of course has use cases and practical applications and not just one or two. Just think of the unbanked. Are you aware that if you live in certain Afrincan countries like Zimbabwe you can't use international payment systems like PayPal? You also will have a problem when trying to send money out of the country or open a bank account in Europe or the US. For many people bitcoin is one of a very limited number of ways to store value and move money out of the country.
17  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If all your wages were paid in USDT, would you accept it? on: May 22, 2024, 08:12:21 PM
I would prefer to get it in USD. But if a company offers me to get it in USDT, why not? Both have the same value after all. The difference is not much. Maybe only a penny? But I am okay with that. Regarding USDT getting a de-peg, I will have to chat with that if USDT gets a de-peg within three days of getting the salary, they will have to pay me again and I am okay with that.

Getting a salary in USDT or any other stable crypto is not bad. I can still exchange them to my local currency within a couple of minutes. So, I won't bother too much about asking for USD instead of USDT.

The way I see it, the difference is huge, a bit like between real cheese and cheese-like product.

USDT has the value of USD, but it's not USD. It's a coin issued by a private company that follows the price of USD, like a price tracking ETF. When you hold USDT you don't hold USD. You hold an IOU from ifinex - a Hong Kong company. Do you trust that company with your money? Do you really want an IOU from them every month instead of USD? You're not going to be able to spend your USDT in any store.
18  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is procreation really necessary? on: May 22, 2024, 08:02:03 PM
Procreation is necessary for the human race to continue. Without people having children we would eventually cease to exist.

That must be one of these things on the mind of two people who decide to have children. Come on love, we have to make children because otherwise the human race will cease to exist.
When she's in labor the father stands beside her and whispers in her ear - be strong, you're pushing out the future of our planet. Do it for the world! Cheesy

Is procreation really necessary?

Necessary or not, it's fun. Whoever put this whole thing together was so interested in having us procreate that, He made it to be extremely enjoyable... at least to attempt it.

Cool

You are a man obviously.

Do you think women don't enjoy these attempts? Cheesy
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Donald Trump's stance on Bitcoin is changing, the Trump pump is beginning on: May 22, 2024, 07:52:02 PM
So many gullible members in this thread. That fat idiot must be laughing his ass off thinking how he successfully manipulated so many fools into thinking that he actually gives a damn about the crypto community.

Grow up people! Almost all politicians don't support crypto and the rare few that do support BTC etc have a tough time. Think!
He doesn't care, but he cares about the money and accepting bitcoin donations shows he's picked a side.

Biden clearly showed us what side he's on. His senator Warren has been attacking bitcoin for years and trying to promote CBDC and trying to implement 30% tax on mining. Trump on the other hand said he's against CBDC, doesn't support the mining tax and accepts bitcoin donations.

If I had to choose between these two I'd obviously choose Trump. If I could vote for people like Kennedy Jr, that would be my choice, but no real bitcoiner is going to vote for Biden.
20  Economy / Economics / Re: Idea of btc is genius the limited supply that's why i think it's safe heaven on: May 22, 2024, 07:35:57 PM
Scarcity is important just as the hard cap limit, but these things have never defined the value of something. The most important thing is use cases. Real acceptance.

I can give you many examples of things that are scarce but not really valuable, just because nobody needs them for anything.
Take tellurium - one of the least common elements on Earth. It's not that expensive for something that rare. It costs $80 per kg, which is much cheaper than silver, not to mention some other, rare metals like ruthenium that's over 10x the price of silver.

Rarity, cost of production and all that does not equal value.
