1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sapphire Nitro+ 580 8gb Hynix mem Issue with stock and modded GPUs on: August 15, 2017, 09:29:47 PM
I have set up 50 boards of Asrock H81 PRO BTC with the same exact cards as you are having, with Hynix Memory and they could not be overclocked through MSI Afterburner but only after downloading the bios mod.

What I can suggest you since you see THREAD STUCK IN DEVICE DRIVER, it is a driver problem and not a GPU or motherboard problem.

Here is what I did , completely uninstalled the existing driver with DDU(Display Driver Uninstaller, google it) it will do a thorough uninstall. Restart your PC and download the latest version from official website of ATI, keep the virtual memory both min and max 16384 MB (16GB) , install the drivers and I am sure you will have no more problems.

Since it worked on Asrock H81 PRO BTC should work also on B250 TB BTC as the motherboards are the same , have the exact same layout.

You can try Nicehash as a last resource.

I have also built several rigs with Asrock H81 Pro BTC mobos but I always used a different CPU since they use socket 1150. I want to believe this mobo is a great mobo for mining just as the H81 Pro BTC, and that is why I am also concerned about how harmful could it be for the mobo and gpu to run the system with the i3 3.9 ghz kaby lake CPU before updating the bios.

You have 6 gpus and 1200 watt psu. Although you have tried other bioses, have you tried testing your system by connecting 5 gpu at a time? You say "you can only mine for a few moments and system crash", with stock clocks/no mods: Each gpu may pull around 200 watts from wall, your system should use 60 watts at best bet, therefore it might be a power resource issue. If you have a power supply with more watts, you may want to test your system with that or make sure that you modify your gpus correctly.

Hi! Yes, I have been thinking about that, I have already mined with 5 to 6 unmodded gpus, consuming around 100-115 watts per card, and everything seemed to be working fine, anyway, the main problem comes in when I mod the graphic cards and try to get them all to work, thats when I start losing access to bios, constant restarts, during windows loading, during bios, mining, etc.

Yesterday I tried a pair of sapphires nitro+ 570 8gb that went from 21 to 24 mhs after mod (I was soo disappointed), but somehow looks like they all are damaged, tried them on this different system and it allowed me to enter bios but i could never load windows because of restarts.

I also tried resetting bios aand reflashing it, and it only allowed me to enter bios with any different card than the used on the rig.

Soo many more random issues than the Rx 4xx's  Cry   I used to build 2 and 3 rigs a day, now I get stuck in the same rig for days! I know that's not normal at all...

Thanks for your reply's guys, Ive been having such a bad time with these new gen cards... Ive only gotten to work like 1 out of 8 miners because of this problem, and I feel like Ive damaged so many cards without trying anything extraordinary.

Ive built several 390 and 470/480 rigs before so I am even more clueless about what might be happening here...

**********UPDATE
. Here is what Ive tried so far:

HDD: Ive changed the SSD and reinstalled Windows

Risers: Switched and tested.

MOBO: Updated BIOS, swapped and tested, Biostar TB250. *******I can see a red box, on Biostar's CPU compatibility list, with the warning: "Please update system BIOS before upgrade your processor (CPU) to avoid system failure". Do you guys think it is possible to damaged a motherboard/GPU by using a Kaby Lake processor (i3 7100)? Even if it was only a few minutes before updating BIOS?

PSU: Gone from 1200 watts to 2x650w.

RAM: Tested 2400mhz and 3000mhz 8gb RAM kits.

Drivers ver: Ive tried driver versions: 17.7.2, and mixed drivers for 17.5.2

Virtual memory: 16000 to 32000 mb

Windows 10: PRO 64 bits, even tried installing every update available.

Polaris Bios Editor: I've been using the same Bios editor as Cryptomined and many other youtubers.

MOD: I used the already tested mod created by BuriedOne Blockchain youtuber (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiPCwJV_ryM) and for the rest of the 4gb cards, Ive been using the 1625 and up mod as I think its less aggressive than the 1500 and up one.

BIOS: Ive tried stock settings for the bios and a tweaked version with HD audio disabled, all PCIE ports set to 2g... By the way, I even get the computer frozen while on bios sometimes, I mean, how and what am I doing wrong?Huh

After modding the cards, I usually lose the capability to enter bios, when started, it runs directly to Windows and it gets impossible to work with 6 gpus, its like GPUs start getting progressively deteriorated after the MOD  Huh Huh Huh Huh Sad Cry

Is it normal to have crashes while trying to mine with unmodded GPUs and at stock settings?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Sapphire Nitro+ 580 8gb Hynix mem Issue with stock and modded GPUs on: August 10, 2017, 06:55:30 AM
Hello guys! I am having a serious issues with all my new Sapphire rigs, I am using this mod on my GPUs and they reach high speeds but I cant mine for more than a few seconds, even at speeds of 23-26 Mh/s (I cant even mine with stock settings and never-modded-GPUs).

I am using Win 10 pro (UEFI) up to date,
Biostar TB250 BTC (updated),
Processor i3 7100,
8gb Ram 2400mhz,
1200 watts for 6x Nitro+ 580 8gb Hynix mem (I have the same issue even with a single gpu connected),
Also tried drivers ver 17.5.2 and latest ver. without mod.

Most of the times I get the THREAD STUCK IN DEVICE DRIVER and TDR Blue screen problem, or the ataidlxx.dll issue.
Also tried DDUing and reinstalling the mixed driver over and over.
Always using Claymore DM 9.8.
Already increased the virtual memory to 16gb.
Processor temp is always nice and cold.

I am really running out of ideas here and I really need your help guys...

Instal win 10, my 7xRX 480 works fine.
This helped!
Fresh Windows 10 installation and all 7 GPUs able to run even without 6xGPU MOD! I can't believe how much time I lost trying to get 5+ GPUs to run on Windows 7...

Thank you batko and lbr for help!

Now I "just" need to resolve stability issue of 6th and 7th GPU, which crash always after 5-6 minutes of mining.

Did you try modifying the bios? set PCIE ports to gen 2, choose the 8x 4x 4x option, deactivate integrated audio port, update bios, and connect the screen to the first 16x port.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 7xGPU + Windows // modding AMD video driver is the answer on: December 13, 2016, 06:48:33 PM
And a new problem: I dont see any speed improvement by modifying the clocks, its like afterburner didnt work.
Maybe it didn't - check core clock in GPU-Z and AF.

Hi, well, this did the trick:

I would really love if someone could help me with an annoying issue.

I really dont know if it is the miner causing it, windows, or maybe the GPU...

For some reason, after a couple of hours mining perfectly, one gpu drops its mem clock from whatever stock setting it is to 300, which causes that gpu to mine a 1/5 % of the speed, usually around 47 sols/s (amd 470 4 gb modded). so I am constantly having to reinstall drivers, patch, etc, to get it work normally again, since simple restarts do not solve the problem.

I am using 6x 470 4gb cards, z97 gaming 5 mobo, 8gb ram, windows 8.1

Do you have a screen plugged in (or dummy plug)? If it's the 'out card' it could be a restful state issue that your power management is forcing the card into.

HI! yes, i keep a screen plugged in all the time. I always use the same port to connect the pc to the scree, i think its the first 16x port, I think it is also the only one that allows me to enter the BIOS settings.

Double check, I had the same 300MHz problem when I first set up my rigs, it turns out I had to have a monitor plugged in to the primary slot - for me that was the 2nd PCI e slot from the top (not the first 1x slot).

I didnt remember I had to connect the screen to a different gpu during the installation. Everything seems to be working Almost fine.
My current configuration is:
Core volt +6
Power limit +10
Core clock 1300
Memory clock 1950

Windows 10 Professional

Hashing speed for CDM ver 7.4 are between 27.7 and 28.0
Temps go from 68 to 73.

For some reason it is mining a bit slower than the rest of my rigs, may be because of the Windows version.
I will let know if it remains stable.

THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP!!!!

Also, any interferance with the GPU except the miner can cause GPU to go idle/low power state.
F.e. - Screen saver/GPU-Z/MSI Afterburner/any soft which uses GPU.
Some software on launch/some rendering/profile apply/etc makes GPU to enter 3D mode, after it is finished GPU goes idle/low state.

Or it simply hangs in OpenCL due to unstable clocks and then resets itself.
Visually it can be seen on display as very quick flicker.

I just installed windows 10 to see if that could solve the problem. Same Bios settings (8x 4x 4x, gen 2 PCIE ports, inboard audio disabled), amd drivers ver 16.9, afterburner, CDM ver 7.4, aand thats it.

Afterburner mods: +6% vcore, +10% power limit.

Results: 1 gpu mining at 4mh/s, 5 gpus mining at 25 mh/s. And a new problem: I dont see any speed improvement by modifying the clocks, its like afterburner didnt work. I havent overlocked my gpus since the release of ZCash but I remember getting speeds of up to 29 mh/s per gpu with my other rigs.

It is because your GPU has too low voltage during some load spikes.
You can try until it gets stable:
1) increase GPU voltage in 6 mV increments
2) decrease GPU overclock in 10 MHz increments
3) decrease intensity for this card 1 at a time
Or some combination of these

HI! Thanks a lot for the help!

I just tried that, after reinstalling and patching everything, ( I even tried changing the GPUS mod by lowering TDP from 100 to 90 and I think it was even worse) and that didnt solve the problem, I couldnt even finish the NiceHash benchmark test as it crashed after a couple of minutes.

Also, I am working with intensity 7 already

BTW, I realized it is always the 2nd GPU showed on Afterburner, I swapped every GPU between every PCIE slot, I also tested every card on the 16x port to see if every one of them could send the signal to the screen with no problems so I am guessing it might be MOBOS fault... ( I have every PCIE set to gen 2, 8x 4x 4x, and I also deactivated the audio inboard  on the BIOS)

I would really love if someone could help me with another issue you might encounter in the future.

While I'm still working on my issue, maybe this could help:
- Does this always happen to the same GPU? If so, swap it with another one and see if the issue follows the GPU or the PCI/riser. If the issue follows the GPU try flashing it with the BIOS copied from a GPU that doesn't fail (backup first).
- Maybe this is miner's feature to slow the card down if it get's overheated - what's the temp it achieves prior to the failure? And the time you spend to reinstall drivers allows the GPU to cool down?

Hi! thanks for the quick response.

Nope, I realized it is always the 2nd GPU showed on Afterburner, I swapped every GPU between every PCIE slot, I also tested every card on the 16x port to see if every one of them could send the signal to the screen with no problems.

The low mining speed can also be seen on the ethereum miner.

Every GPU are working between 65 and 71 ºC.

I have taken between a day to 20 minutes, from the crash to the reinstall, I dont think this is a temp issue as the speed wont go back up even if I let it rest for a day.

BTW, I just updated MOBOs bios but I am still having the same issue, and I still cant even get the NiceHashs benchmark done. Might it be MOBOS fault?

I would really love if someone could help me with another issue you might encounter in the future.

Raise vcore.

Hi!, I just tried rising vcore by 6% and power limit by 10% and it might just have lasted a bit longer, but in the end, it ended up crashing again.

Try this: clear the CMOS by shorting the pins on the MOBO while turned off.  Then use one single GPU to test every slot, then connect one by one progressively, with restarts in between.

That is how I have got that mobo to work with 6, but I have never got it to work with 7 gpu, maybe because I am using windows 8.1

Guys! I just built a pair of new miners and both of them have 1 gpu hashing at 1/4 of its regular speed. Anyone knows the reason or how to solve that problem?
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 7xGPU + Windows // modding AMD video driver is the answer on: November 24, 2016, 12:34:06 PM
Hello guys! I am trying to build a 7 gpu mining rig with the following components:

i3 Processor
8gb ram ddr3
MSI z97 gaming 5 Mobo
2x 1000 watts psu
and 7x 480 PowerColor 4g Gpu
USB 3.0 powered risers
on a Win 8.1 Pro operative system.

And I am experiencing issues to have all the cards recognized even after over 8 hours of trying different things like:

Clearing CMOS
Checking risers (they all are working)
Switching back and forward gpus within pcie ports for hours, which allowed me to recognize the 6th card like a regular H81 Pro BTC MOBO.
Everytime I plug a GPU to the PCIE7 slot the system won run. I am about to uninstall everything and start from the OS.

Do you guys have any idea what am I missing?

BTW: I am trying to emulate the process made by Cryptomined (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWVyutw3hZk). But he says something about the memory on the minute 11:55 that  I can not understand with my limited english.

I hope someone can help me! Have a good day miners!

Edit: I just managed to have all the gpu recognized but one of them is still showing error code 43, even after applying the 6gpu mod.

I am using Ubuntu 16.04 and got stuck in the 8th step:   Install system-wide by running as root (accept all the default options): $ sudo ./AMD-APP-SDK-v3.0.130.136-GA-linux64.sh

Also, how do I compile silentarmy? I already tried that line: $ make and look what i got...

lucky notlist3d! Grin

I did get lucky mine is still working great.   Sadly power company did a upgrade and I lost electricity during it, turns out they like to work on wires that are not live Smiley.  But if was not for that I would have hit 30 day mark of working and not having to change anything.  I think 24 day's was highest I got on getting pictures of it.

And Ferol is right about fixing these.   If you do anything even fan mod you kill your warranty now day's.  So make sure you get bitmains permission before trying to fix it.

Yeah, I’m about to send the damaged units back to China, I just wanted to know what kind of thermal paste/glue did they use, its a limited time warranty. I feel very disappointed about these units and the glued heatsink design; they just wanted to get rid of the remaining chips before releasing the S7 model…
20  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5+ is available to order, 7.722TH/S 0.445J/GH on: September 29, 2015, 03:39:02 AM
You do not lose the entire blade every time.  Depends on how the chip was lost or what chip were lost, it could be a total loss, but not because you lost one chip doesn't make it automatically lose the whole hashing PCB.  Yes it can be but based on your Miner Status Page, you did not lose the whole hash PCB.

From my 3 x S5+ working normaly only one, as it should be mine.

Last miner was with broken fan.  and it turned out that there was a not working blade.

I took the fan from another S5+ and  A broken fan-sided last blade  is  broken.

At first it was only 1 missing ASIC , like the the second miner.

So I already know that a single ASIC loss may be the loss of the entire blade.

Therefore, I paid 7500 USD and got
one just [non]broken miner, that can immediately break one blade
one just broken with transport ,
and  one 100% working miner.

All they had mined for at least a month, if not more, before selling

I am also having only 1 out of 3 S5+ working perfectly... I have got another 5 antminers, I started having troubles with these units. I really regret my decision of buying these S5+´s…
