1  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Pledging coins for ultimate blockchain compression on: August 12, 2019, 07:37:31 AM
Following discussions over the past few weeks within the Bitcoin community in Israel and members of the Scaling Bitcoin Planning Committee, it has been decided that funds held by Ron Gross will be contributed to the Scaling Bitcoin event.

The established requirement is that roughly ~50% of these funds will be used for R&D stimulus, while the remaining ~50% will be contributed to the event budget. Since a large portion of Scaling sponsorships is used to provide for academic and developer subsidies, received funds allocated toward the budget will be prioritized to cover our subsidy and diversity efforts.

For the R&D stimulus, we will allocate 3.0 BTC for grants and form a grant committee that will award these funds to presenters at Scaling. The grant committee will establish the required criterion for the award recipients. Participants in the grant committee will be published at a later date on the Scaling Bitcoin website.

The only requirement we would like to set forth is that only the work that directly relates to and impacts the Bitcoin protocol or Bitcoin development qualifies as a recipient of these awards. This was the initial purpose of the donations collected, so this remains the priority.

Funds will be transferred in the coming days to 1V5Sbs6TghoaEJzoWkmsSGefNaAbhVdwY following which, 3 BTC will be parked at 3A8oxUi1XFoX9umM1VDD9ChPywMgG2kz22 pending the conference.  The conference will take place on 11th and 12th of September 2019 at the Tel Aviv University and funds will be awarded on the 12th of September at the end of the conference.  The award ceremony is scheduled to take place at approximately 17:55 IDT (UTC+3) but the conference schedule frequently drifts.  For a more detailed schedule and related information please visit https://telaviv2019.scalingbitcoin.org#schedule

On behalf of the Bitcoin development community, we would like to thank Ron Gross for such generous contribution and in the coming weeks, we will be making sure these funds are used to produce the maximum impact on the Bitcoin community.

Best,

Anton Yemelyanov
On behalf of the Scaling Bitcoin Planning Committee

interesting... windows release 1.28 tests positive for Win32/Occamy.C trojan (in Windows Defender), while 1.27 and previous versions do not.
where you download 1.28 version?

From the announce post -

Windows:

Cuda 10.0(For 10x0 & 20x0 cards, new drivers ver 411+):https://mega.nz/#!JLwGUAzC!8uDTbGGnwJHEpqmeR1KFcjaTGHNcu9TkwsA1YhlrtzU

...

Windows Defender stops the above 1.28 archive in its tracks.  Whereas 1.27 is just fine.

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining rig cooling solutions on: August 05, 2017, 07:16:33 AM
Did anyone ever use water cooler as RIG cooler?
I think the water cooler can lower your GPU temperature by about 10 oC.
But I have not tried it because the price is expensive.  Grin Grin Grin

I don't think that watercooling is an option because the generated heat remains exactly the same as when using air cooling.
Adding more and more water cooled cards will give you the same problem: where to dump your heat.

However, water cooling allows you to divert heat to a single location, where it can be extracted much more efficiently.  For example, if you run tubes to radiators that direct air into an enclosed environment (like a box), then a duct fan can evacuate all the heat.  Radiators can also be installed in a window etc.

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 7+gpu ERROR 43 on: June 26, 2017, 05:55:46 PM
Code 43 is a driver startup error, which typically happens when GPU has a fault.  Try swapping existing working GPU with the new card to see if the new card shows up with error 43.  There are a number of ways to try to solve this. For many people, linux will not have this problem. Sometimes booting in linux and then back to windows resolves this.  Sometimes uninstalling the driver using DDU and re-installing solves this.  But at times it can be just a faulty card that needs RMA.

I am giving this input assuming that error 43 is showing up on the new card you are adding.  If existing working cards start coming up like this, then this is most likely motherboard/bios related.

I wanted to make a comment specifically on everyone quoting Charles in this thread.

What Charles meant under "no development" is simple.  We are not adding any "gimmick" features to Litecoin protocol. We are making sure that Litecoin remains a stable and reliable network compatible with Bitcoin API.

What we are currently doing is focusing on integration and adoption.

We have recently created https://litecoin.com and are currently focusing on merchant adoption as well as strategical integration with different service providers.  These things take time and we are not in a rush. We are doing this properly and one step at a time.

The ecosystem has drastically changed over the last few years.  51% attacks used to destroy projects.  Now, they are just dismissed as a natural phenomena.  Pre-mines used to be considered as scams, now they are simply called ICOs.  Super fast coins have been released by people who do not understand things like block propagation time and forums are flooded by people who post on topics they do not even understand.

At the same time, a number of really amazing projects have been created and I truly wish they succeed in their decentralization efforts.

Litecoin has a strong following of people who continue supporting the ecosystem.  The network did not get where it is today by an accident.  IMO the fact that some people have lost interest due to price decline is irrelevant.  I see people get paid for their services and sell products for Litecoin every day.

As Andreas Antonopoulous frequently says "Bitcion is a dumb network" ...and so is Litecion.  That is the beauty of it. The main purpose of Litecion is to provide a reliable transfer of value. Everything else is secondary.

Hello Everyone,

I have acquired a decent amount of IceDrill shares during the launch.  Unfortunately something urgent came up in my personal life and I am currently looking to sell them in blocks of 100,000 at a fair price without disrupting the market.  Anyone interested, please PM me with offers.

Unfortunately we did not realize the horrible side effect of alerts on Mac OS X, mainly because people had Growl installed, and with Growl installed the messages become much more passive.

If you are still getting alerts, please upgrade to 0.6.9.2: https://forum.litecoin.net/index.php/topic,4615.0.html
14  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: User: LitecoinFoundation is a fraud on: June 18, 2013, 01:18:23 PM
Litecoin Project is managed by the development team (currently 7 people), lead by Coblee (the project creator).  None of these people have ever heard about "Litecoin Foundation" before. (with the exception of Warren who spoke to Chaang Noi claiming to be a representative of the organization)  Furthermore, creation of Litecoin Foundation has been previously discussed among the members of the development team.

My response (quoted by you) on their thread was immediately deleted without any explanation, which was immediately interpreted by me as a hostile action designed to circumvent team's fundraising efforts.  Furthermore, other then Chaang Noi stating that he is a member of this foundation, none of my requests to validate the claims that such foundation exists have been addressed.

I (and I am speaking on the behalf of the Litecoin project development team here) would like this organization to validate itself by at least establishing communication with the Litecoin project development team on Litecoin forums.

I mean no disrespect to anyone. If people actually did get together to form some type of a venture, please establish your credibility by communicating with the development team and state your goals and intentions.  Please do this publicly on the Litecoin forums.

Until this is done, our team with continue to dismiss this as someone's attempt at posing as some viable organization which does not exist in real world.

15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FAKE - LitecoinFoundation.org donates 2000 LTC to wtogami and Aspect for 0.8.2 on: June 17, 2013, 07:00:55 PM
I did not freak out.  I think my response was balanced while questioning the validity of the message and validity of the organization.

I stated that donation fundraising is for the development team and that the development team is not susceptible to dictation of what should be done with the funds.  Any dictation of what and how should be done by the development team will be instantly refused.  If anyone gives donations saying "if you do so and so", can take their funds back.  If someone wants to donate to individuals, they are welcome to do that in private.

I then proceeded to question the validity of someone with 0 posts calling themselves 'Litecoin Foundation'. Especially since we have had ongoing discussions about this internally.  I also stated that:
Quote
Until there is further real-life information from your direction in regards to your organization, I am unable to establish your level of credibility. Thus I will ignore any interaction with you until that is addressed.

I then also added a personal note that criticized your approach of stating that 'XYZ donates to warren and aspect'.  The whole post looked designed to me like an entrapment that validates your so called foundation the second we accept the funds from you.

My post was almost instantly deleted by whoever started the thread - the 'foundation'.  You should not have done this.  People who have good intent don't delete other people's messages from threads, instead they engage in discussion.  My original post was not hostile: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=236506.msg2499524#msg2499524.  Your deletion of my response was. Hence the alternate threads.

I answer only to Coblee.

I refused the funds and I did not claim this to be a scam. I simply asked to justify your existence as an organization other then a domain name or identify who you are.  I also stated that a new bitcointalk account with 0 posts offering donations and stating in the topic 'LitecoinFoundation.org donates 2000 LTC to wtogami and Aspect for 0.8.2' which is not true (as 'donates' denotes present and past) and that this looked suspicious.

When my response https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=236506.msg2499524#msg2499524 has been instantly deleted from the thread without anyone responding or explaining or discussing, I instantly created a fraud accusation thread.

If your statement states 'XYZ donates' this will be interpreted by community members as donation challenge being reached.  If you then do not do that, it will be damaging to the donation fund.

Next time, do not delete developer responses but post actual responses to it in the thread.

I will wait for coblee or warren to get in on this and other threads before having any further discussions in this regard.

I will wait for coblee or warren to get in on this and other threads before having any further discussions in this regard.

In my personal opinion, if you wanted to donate and your intentions were honourable, you should have done just like all other donors and contributors.

Bythe way i am not the richest in ltc land but the group as a whole hasa good shot.

A good shot at what?

Like I said, I will wait for Warren to wake up to make any further statements in relation to this.  All I know right now is that few of us in the development team who is online right now have never heard about any of this.

I just messaged you on IRC.

I am waiting for Warren to wake up.  We are actually quite well organized and keep in constant contact with each-other.  I would phone Warren up right now, just don't want to do that as he has not slept in almost 2 days debugging & testing the client.

None of this has been discussed nor on the private dev channel, nor on the QA channel, nor on our mailing list.  I don't know who posted what on IRC.  If something has been announced, it should have been announced on the Litecoin forums and I am _sure_ this would become a major topic on the dev side.

Furthermore, creation of a foundation has been discussed internally just few weeks ago and it was decided to postpone this.
