Cool, can't wait to check it out  Grin

Thanks! I'll be updating on the forum and other places as things come together.

I know it will be a lot of work and I'm hoping to crowd-source reviews, ratings and recommendations. It will be easy to categorize and register the "good" merchants and vendors. It won't be so easy to organize the "bad" ones, but that's the goal.
3  Economy / Service Discussion / Announcing the Bitcoin Consumers Union on: November 02, 2012, 01:39:00 AM
Good evening everyone,

I'm putting the final touches on a new website that I hope new and existing users of Bitcoin will find beneficial. It's called the Bitcoin Consumers Union and its goal is to help facilitate a fair and just marketplace for users of Bitcoin.

We'll work toward this in three ways.

First, we will register and create a ratings system for merchants and vendors that conduct business in Bitcoin. We will be an independent and non-biased source for consumer reviews, complaints and recommendations for merchants. Our reviews and ratings will come from BTC users.

Second, we will list common scams and highlight reports of fraudulent activity amongst BTC merchants, vendors and providers of service. We will distribute "action alerts," fraud warnings and issue a quarterly report on Bitcoin usage and consumer confidence.

And finally, we plan to work with merchants and vendors to adopt basic standards of fairness with regard to the marketplace.

But I need help. I need a few members of this community to join BTC CU's Board of Advisors. These folks will volunteer their time to help the organization adopt a mission and a plan of action.

If you're interested in this project, please PM me and I'll send you more information.

You can check out the shell here: http://www.btcconsumersunion.org. As a sidenote, I'm continuing to put the finishing touches on the site, so please forgive any blatant errors or typos.

I also need to compile a comprehensive list of common scams and and attempts at fraudulent behavior within the BTC community.

We're all interested in promoting a thriving BTC economy, and while the vast majority of BTC users and merchants are trustworthy, there is an element that will take any opportunity to use and abuse the system to their own gain. I've read far too many stories of users that have been scammed, hacked or otherwise tricked into sending their Bitcoins off without receiving anything in return. A lack of knowledge about the available tools can easily be remedied.

Please don't hesitate to ask questions, I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts and ideas on this project. If you would like to help out, again, PM me and I can shoot you more information.

I've spent 100 dollars so far, should I continue buying BTC? Smiley

I initially spent $100 a year or so ago. It's worth $300 now.

If you just started the bitcoin client on a clean OS it will have to download the entire blockchain. Just wait and youll se your coins. It can take a long time, tho.

This is my guess, too.

This! I had a similar problem, solved by installing the SDK.

Seriously? 355 pages! … I wonder who will read this .. OK well I’m NoWhammies, I’m a noob that just Googled “How to mine bitcoins” & clicked on the first link entitled “Beginners Guide to Mining Bitcoins” (startbitcoin.com). It instructed me first to get a “Wallet”. I did that, encrypted it, then somehow found bitcoin.cz and installed “Bitcoin miner” on my computer. I choose “Kiv’s GUI miner”. Then I Sighed up with a bitcoin.cz account, logged in, entered my wallet address, registered, then copied and pasted http://api.bitcoin.cz:8332 in the address bar, clicked the forward arrow (Internet Explorer 9), and it asked me for a name and password. I gave my worker1 name and password and that didn’t work. I then gave my bitcoin.cz name and password and that didn’t work…
So now I’m basically wondering if anyone out there who has experience on getting up and running is willing to talk to me about it on Teamspeak, or even Ventrilo. … Is there a TS or Vent room up now?

What's up NoWhammies? I had a similar problem but it was fixed by using the method provided on this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=49966.0.
8  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GUIMiner missing DLL problem -- "ImportError: DLL load failed" on: September 23, 2012, 05:14:44 AM
I know this is a very old post, but this was my issue, as well. I installed the SDK and everything synced up perfectly. Beforehand, I was unable to connect to the pool because of that very same DLL issue.

I've got answers if anyone has questions. I run Seals.

What's up FreeMoney, thanks for being a part of this service. I've been itching to play cards for a while now, ever since Black Friday. I'm not great at maths, but I was able to figure out a couple of questions I had (see previous post).

Derp, of course I spot it in the FAQ immediately after posting here. Please disregard chip/value question. It's 1/1000th BTC for those who are curious.
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Seals With Clubs on: September 23, 2012, 02:56:34 AM
First off, great name for a poker site. Secondly, has anyone deposited BTC into a SWC account? Do you have any experiences you'd like to share?

Also, what's the conversion rate for BTC to Seals With Clubs "chips"? I can't seem to find what I'm looking for in that regard.

Many thanks in advance.

One wonders why these scumbags don't offer $1,000,000 for Obama's college transcripts?

What's interesting about those?  No one is asking for Romney's college transcripts either, and he went to the same school.  Is there some conspiracy theory that Obama didn't really go to Harvard?

The rumor is that Obama filed for scholarships as a resident of Kenya. Part of that whole, "birther" conspiracy.
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: new user looking for a small loan of 2.37 btc on: September 23, 2012, 02:23:27 AM
cuz i could really use it now    Cry

In my experiences, getting loans for something you can buy later on with a little patience is not the way to run your finances. Put up some collateral for the loan (like photos mentioned above) or just wait.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it difficult for a thief to decrypt your wallet? on: September 22, 2012, 03:27:25 AM
It would take a very long time to decrypt your wallet. You're good. You may want to change the number of characters in your password now, as that you've told the internet it's 17.

Ha.

If they know its 17 characters, now the attacker only needs 10,000 lifetimes to find the password as opposed to 18,000 if he had to try all the shorter passwords too.

That's me, overly cautious.

I'm UberNeck. Professionally, I do front-end web work specializing a few content management systems. I was first introduced to BTC through Tor and have since taken an interest in cryptocurrency. I comment under a different name on the reddit sub, but I'm jumping into this forum, as well.
