442  Other / Archival / multiple devices Mining on: December 10, 2017, 09:21:27 AM
I'm a newbie in bitcoin mining and want to learn more about mining before buying hardware.
we have several unused computers (core i3 and i5).

is there any possible way to collective mining efforts together with these devices (3-6 devices) to reach the payout threshold faster?

is this possible to use this way for Bitcoin or it’s good for altcoins?
443  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-10-12]Tom Peterffy Believes Bitcoin Could Wreck Might Go to $100K .... on: December 10, 2017, 07:06:59 AM
The great Wall Street Divide over whether Bitcoin is a miracle or a bubble continues to grow, with Interactive Brokerage founder Tom Peterffy expressing his concerns about a bubble. The trader/investor has said that the price spike may continue, even up to $100,000 or more, before the price crashes.

The warning from Peterffy included commentary that Bitcoin futures trading may well spell disaster for the entire financial market, with smaller brokerages going in on the cryptocurrency and then going bankrupt. He is restricting his own traders to long positions at $5 per contract (as opposed to the normal $.80) in order to protect the brokerage. He expressed his bewilderment, saying:

"I'm extremely curious, this is an amazing thing. How silly people are, it is just amazing."

447  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-12-07]Bitcoin hits $15,000 on: December 07, 2017, 01:07:56 PM
Bitcoin’s value crossed the $15,000 threshold for the first time today, marking another milestone in its dizzying ascent. In recent months, the cryptocurrency has undergone a staggering increase in value; surging from roughly $3,500 in mid-September to its current price. And at the start of the year, a single Bitcoin was worth less than $800.

What happens next is anyone’s guess, and most analysts are united only in their uncertainty over the cryptocurrency’s future. Bitcoin long ago stopped being useful for actually buying things (partly because of its rocketing value and partly because of achingly-slow transaction times), so the questions facing speculators are: is this a bubble? And if so, when will it burst?

448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / please reply to Jim Cramer "Bitcoin is like 'Monopoly money" on: December 06, 2017, 04:12:20 PM
Jim Cramer says "Bitcoin is like 'Monopoly money' — you're better off gambling in Vegas"

"What's the difference between bitcoin and trying to figure out the Super Bowl? I mean it's gambling,"
"It's kind of like monopoly money," Cramer said on "Squawk Box." "Obviously, there’s are people who use it. If you ever say anything bad about it, there's like this 'bitcoin mafia' that comes after you. But it is an oddity that has nothing to do with us" as investors.

"It's just pure gambling at this point," Cramer continued. "I mean if you want to gamble, go to Vegas. Vegas is fabulous."[1]

who reply to Cramer???

454  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-12-3]Bitcoin investors hoping to make billions on: December 03, 2017, 04:22:48 PM
Sifting the Yukon river for gold was a waste of time for most of the 100,000 prospectors seeking to make themselves rich in the 1890s. The same can be said of the bitcoin miners who dream of striking it rich by getting their hands on some of the extremely lucrative and painfully elusive electronic currency.

Relatively few people have managed to decipher the codes needed to extract bitcoins from the 21 million locked inside the mathematical problems set by its creator, the software engineer whose true identity is unknown but who goes by the name Satoshi Nakamoto.

Those who have employed enough computer power and code-cracking know-how can consider themselves rich now that the value of one bitcoin has soared from $753 last December to around $10,000. The rest have deployed huge amounts of energy and time for no return.

Should anyone be worried about this turn of events? Or will it go down as a moment in history when an asset was mined, some people got rich and ... that was it?

The ambitions of the bitcoin community mean the creation of a new currency must be taken more seriously. Its stellar rise in the last 18 months is likely to have sucked in thousands of speculators, many of them ordinary investors.

And with mainstream financial exchanges looking to host bitcoin as a tradeable asset, or list derivatives of bitcoin on their trading boards, thousands more will be sucked in over the next 18 months.

Where ordinary investors, hunting in large numbers, seek a return on their savings in a high-risk environment, governments are usually minded to regulate.

The idea behind bitcoin was that it should be like any commodity that, once discovered, became increasingly difficult to extract. Like gold, it would become a store of value and make those clever enough to find it and believe in it very rich.

455  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Multi coins - Hardware wallet on: December 01, 2017, 04:27:29 PM
I’m Thinking about buying new hardware wallet [for the first time] (ledger or trezor).
Googled it and find these hardware wallets don't provide the private keys or using an extra tool to get private keys.

1) Is there any hardware wallet support Multi coin (at least bitcoin forks)?.
2) how can get private key from these wallets?.
3) can edit settings to get more than 1 wallet for 1 device?.

The price of bitcoin fell more than $1,000 in the span of about 10 minutes on the CoinDesk Bitcoin Price Index (BPI) today, just hours after the cryptocurrency set an all-time high above $11,000.

Beginning about 19:20 UTC, sell orders began piling up on exchanges in what was perhaps one of the market's most impressive successions of red candles in some time. After showing signs of stability above $10,000 at 18:30 UTC, the price hit a low of $9,290 at 19:30.

However, data shows some exchanges were more affected than others.

"Bitcoin could be at $40,000 at the end of 2018. It easily could," Michael Novogratz says on CNBC's "Fast Money."

"Ethereum, which I think just touched $500 or is getting close, could be triple where it is as well," adds Novogratz, formerly a macro hedge fund manager at Fortress Investment Group.

But Novogratz doesn't recommend retail investors put any more than 1 to 3 percent of their net worth in cryptocurrencies, or wealthier investors to put more than 5 to 10 percent.
