1  Economy / Economics / Carbon markets and climate change mitigation, Are we in the right direction? on: February 02, 2024, 08:37:19 AM
Almost all of us have heard of climate change, and perhaps some of us have begun to feel it, as emissions trading schemes (ETS) and carbon offset projects are the basic mechanisms in fighting climate change, but what is happening now is that the carbon market has turned, instead of a solution to the problem, into a mechanism to encourage countries to continue emitting. The emissions trading system has succeeded in turning carbon into a commodity.

In trading carbon credits, (tCO2e) weighing one ton is used for sale, but it is noted that the total market value increases every year, and industrialized countries have begun to encourage projects that are harmful to the environment at the expense of purchasing carbon credits from other countries, as industrialized countries increase their investments that are harmful to the environment, while poor countries are The first to be affected by climate change.

I do not want to complete KYC verification, and since Bitcoin fees are high, I cannot do this transaction via instant exchange, so I am looking for someone who can convert my Bitcoin to USDT TRC 20.

I'm looking for $1,500, whether it's three $500 deals, two $750 deals, or one $1,500.

5  Other / Archival / Anonymous eSIM with bitcoin or any SMS service on: August 09, 2023, 11:53:39 AM
Has anyone tried ---> https://silent.link/ I plan to use it to get SMS messages without showing my real number, I tried to understand how the site works, but I can't find any guide and I don't want to pay $9 to try a service I know nothing about..
if one of you knows how silent.link works or has tried this service or any anonymous (UAE number) eSIM provider that accept bitcoin, I will be happy to explain it to me/us.

All I want is to get SMS messages using my country number (United Arab Emirates), I did not find it supported by any Anonymous Bitcoin service, so if anyone knows any service that does that, it will be useful to me.
6  Economy / Exchanges / OKX frozen my account and required me to KYC with a less than $1,000 deposit on: July 05, 2023, 06:26:21 AM
Today, after seeing the news that the OKX platform requires KYC, I logged into my account, and from there a small notice appeared to me that there are limits of $ 1000 (lifetime) for deposits and withdrawals, so I decided to deposit $50 to try it for the last time. After deposits, they directly frozen my account and asked to verify ID/selfie before doing anything.

Therefore, if you see a $1,000 limit notice, avoid depositing if you do not intend to complete KYC.
Unfortunately, after all this time, this was the end of my experience with OKX.

Currently, I do not have a way to withdraw that 50 dollars. I thought of withdrawing it via internal exchange. I do not know if it will succeed, but if there is someone who has a verified account, please PM me with his sub-account and I will try to send it to him.

EDIT: here is the answer from technical support:

Quote
Please note that previous withdrawals and deposits made prior to the recent rule update also affect the current limit. In other words, for example, if you had 500 USD left within the lifetime limit before the rules update, then after the update you will also have 500 USD left, not 1000 USD.

I hope I was able to clarify this issue for you.
If you have any additional questions, we are always happy to support you. I wish you all the best!
7  Economy / Economics / Western Alliance shares on: May 05, 2023, 02:01:41 AM
I think some of you may have heard of the story, but I did not see discussions here. I will quote the important points:
Quote
Western Alliance shares recovered from their session lows after the Arizona-based bank denied it was exploring a potential sale.

The Arizona bank described an earlier version of this FT report, which said it was considering a potential sale of all or part of its business, as “categorically false in all respects”, adding: “Western Alliance is not exploring a sale, nor has it hired an advisor to explore strategic options.”

Western Alliance has sought advice from the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell on dealing with the current turmoil in regional banking but said it had not hired them or other advisers to work on a specific transaction.

Sullivan & Cromwell said: “We have been providing legal advice around the banking situation to Western Alliance but neither we nor anybody else have been hired for a sale or a capital raise.”

Western Alliance, which has $65bn of assets, was trading down 26 per cent before the report was published, after which they traded down as much as 61 per cent on the day. The shares recovered before closing down 38 per cent.

I don't know if it was the Financial Times report, but if one piece of news could have caused bank shares to decline by that much, then Bitcoin has become more solid and volatile than in the past.

What do you think, will we face more banks, more difficulties, or has the worst already happened?
8  Economy / Economics / Another bank?! | First Republic Bank stock halted for volatility on: March 16, 2023, 03:02:43 PM
Quote
Shares of First Republic
 and several other regional banks were under pressure again Thursday, as the Swiss National Bank’s move to shore up Credit Suisse did little to calm fears about more midsized bank failures in the U.S.

First Republic fell more than 30% in morning trading. PacWest
 dropped 14%, and Western Alliance
 shed about 12%.

The collapse of Silicon Valley Bank last Friday has left investors scrambling to identify other regional banks that have similar balance sheet issues, namely a high rate of uninsured deposits and bonds or loans with a long time to maturity.

First Republic had the third-highest rate of uninsured deposits among U.S. banks, behind SVB and Signature Bank, which was closed by regulators over the weekend, according to a note from Raymond James. First Republic’s stock was down nearly 75% in March as of Wednesday’s close, and the bank’s debt has been downgraded by S&P Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings.

Source ---> https://www.cnbc.com/2023/03/16/first-republic-falls-25percent-as-regional-bank-stocks-continue-to-sink.html

It seems that all banks with a high rate of uninsured deposits will be at risk and perhaps next on the list, as after SVB and Signature Bank lies First Republic, which lost 30% of its name value during the day and the bank's debt ratings were lowered by S&P Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings.
9  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Trust wallet update on: March 01, 2023, 02:49:48 PM
I use this wallet with small amounts (less than 150 dollars), but today and before broadcast TX, a red notification appeared that I needed to update the wallet, so I went to Gooleplay and made sure that I updated the correct wallet and I was able to send without problems, but that update notification is still there (even it was lastest version)

I checked the Twitter account and did not find any tweet about the need to update the application. In the past, I was able to make transactions without having to download the latest version, so did I miss something?
10  Economy / Economics / No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: February 17, 2023, 11:13:56 AM
Many governments are moving to push hard to reduce sales of diesel and petrol cars, the European Parliament has officially approved a law banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars in the EU from 2035

Quote
The landmark law will require carmakers to cut down CO2 emissions by 100 percent.
The 100 percent cut in CO2 emissions from new cars sold would make it impossible to sell petrol or diesel-powered cars in the 27-country bloc. The law that comes into effect in phases that will require a 55 percent cut in CO2 emissions for new cars starting 2030, which is a much higher target in comparison to the current 37.5 percent.

Source ---> https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/auto/electric-cars/no-petrol/diesel-car-sales-by-2035-european-parliament-approves-ban/articleshow/97939363.cms

Some reports indicate that the costs of running an electric car are actually lower than the costs of running a car with an internal combustion engine.
So, will this goal be achieved by the year 2035? Will the cars be more efficient and at a good price compared to current prices, or is it a policy that may take decades?
11  Economy / Economics / U.S. National Debt Ceiling on: December 28, 2022, 12:00:12 PM
I did not find any topic talking about this matter, and since it is a problem that will come to the fore during the next month, I decided to create this topic.

The federal debt limit of the United States was set more than a century ago, and some may believe that setting a debt ceiling means that obtaining debt will be more difficult, but the process aims to facilitate government access to debt, provided that it does not exceed a certain ceiling, and then there must be legislation that allows them to exceed that roof.

Disagreements over the debt ceiling caused two shutdowns of the federal government and a loss of trillions of dollars, which is likely to happen and could cause a bigger crisis, especially with winter and the bad economic situation that we all know.

The debt limit has been set at $31,381,462,788,891.71, or just under $31.4 trillion, and the government is close to reaching this limit even before expectations that it would happen during the year 2024, but we will reach that limit during the year 2023.

What do you think and the possible effects if the United States defaults on its debts or its credit rating is downgraded?

12  Bitcoin / Legal / SEC’s Gensler Supports Commodities Regulator Having Bitcoin Oversight on: September 08, 2022, 05:13:17 PM
Mr. Gensler, speaking at an industry conference, said Thursday he looked forward to working with Congress to give the Commodity Futures Trading Commission added power, to the extent the agency needs greater authority to oversee and regulate “nonsecurity tokens… and the related intermediaries.”

Quote
“Let’s ensure that we don’t inadvertently undermine securities laws,” he said. “We’ve got a $100 trillion capital market. Crypto is less than $1 trillion worldwide. But we don’t want that to somehow undermine what we do elsewhere.”

Source ---> https://www.wsj.com/articles/secs-gensler-supports-commodities-regulator-having-bitcoin-oversight-11662641115

We can read this news with the part that In May, the SEC nearly doubled the staff of an enforcement unit focused on cryptocurrencies.

I do not think that much will happen during this year, but if we reach 5 trillion in the near time, I think that regulation will inevitably come.
13  Bitcoin / Legal / A private island in Bahamas is seeking to adopt BTC due to a lack of financial on: July 22, 2022, 12:26:34 PM
PRIVATE ISLAND IN THE BAHAMAS SEEKS BITCOIN LIGHTNING WALLET PROVIDER PARTNERSHIP

Chub Cay, an island in the Bahamas, is actively looking for a Lightning Network wallet provider to launch a bitcoin standard to pioneer financial inclusion.

Quote
Chub Cay is an island located in the Bahamas and is currently looking for a Bitcoin Lightning Network wallet provider to partner with.
Chub Cay Resort and Marina conducted an internal survey showing over 50% of its employees want at least some of their paychecks in bitcoin.
The lack of banks and financial education in the area make using traditional banking systems inefficient and at certain times, impossible.

Source ---> https://bitcoinmagazine.com/business/chub-cay-seeks-to-adopt-a-bitcoin-standard

I did a Google search and found that the island's area is very small, so they will not have international banking services. Do you think that Bitcoin might be a good alternative for these countries where it is difficult to establish a banking infrastructure? If that's true, we have millions, maybe billions of people who don't have a bank account or can easily send money around the world.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Randomly receive small amounts of TRX on: July 13, 2022, 07:11:19 PM
About less than a month ago, my TRX wallet address randomly receives amounts smaller than one dollar, mostly (+0.000003 TRX - 0.000028TRX)? Does this happen to you? And what is the reason?
I thought it was a dust attack, but the frequency of receiving random values is an indication of something abnormal Huh
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Why is the value of USDT less than one dollar? on: June 09, 2022, 03:19:14 PM
If we look at the chart of USDT/USD, we will find that the price has always been above one dollar (1.0002~1.0007) or equal to one dollar, but since what happened a month ago and we are still slightly less than one dollar, does anyone know the reason?

Source CMC

What has changed so that the price of USDT stablecoin is less than one dollar and continues to be for about a month?
16  Economy / Economics / Is Bitcoin is too volatile? Bitcoin VS Netflix, Apple, FB, PayPal, ..etc on: April 29, 2022, 02:00:02 PM
 People say "Don’t invest in Bitcoin, it is too volatile!" but is this saying true?
I will quote you some parts of this article in which the volatility of Bitcoin was compared with some stocks.

 Source ---> https://ecoinometrics.substack.com/p/ecoinometrics-bitcoin-is-too-volatile?s=r

Before start lets define:

 - A drawdown is the correction period that happens between two consecutive all-time high.
 - The size of a drawdown is the distance in percentage between the all-time high and the lowest point of the correction.
 - The duration of a drawdown is the number of days it took for the asset to make a new all-time high.

Quote
Honestly the patterns aren’t so different. Yes, for shorter durations Bitcoin tends to see larger dips (the orange points tend to be below the blue points). But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Basically that tells us that Bitcoin can recover faster from those kind of drops.

And how many times have commentators declared Bitcoin dead after a -70% correction? Well a stock like Netflix has a bunch of these too. Still they survived until now (that’s 20 years).

Quote
Damn! In its long history Apple has had a bunch of very significant drawdowns often taking longer than Bitcoin to recover from dips of similar size.

17  Economy / Service Discussion / Kraken has lowered Bitcoin Lightning withdrawal fee to ZERO on: April 29, 2022, 12:33:18 PM
Quote
To accelerate financial inclusion, Kraken has lowered the withdrawal fee for #bitcoin over Lightning to zero.

Thank you for your feedback!

Source ---> https://twitter.com/pierre_rochard/status/1519788223718903808

they still have low on-chain withdrawal fees which is about $19.40 or 0.0005 BTC compared to AVERAGE $18.20 or 0.0004691 BTC

What do you think of the impact of this decision on the Lightning Network adoption (if many platforms follow the same approach) and on altcoins that have low withdrawal rates or blockchain with low fees.

20  Economy / Economics / US yield curve re-inverts on: April 02, 2022, 11:52:49 AM
Signs that the global economy may be stagnating continue to appear. The two-year US Treasury yield is 2.462 percent with strong job growth for March over the 10-year (2.37 percent) and 30-year yield (2.435 percent), which indicates Monetary policy is too tight.

This reversal comes after the worst first quarter for Treasuries, which means that central banks are tightening monetary policy to curb the rise in inflation.
