1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Is CryptUnit.com manipulating mining stats? on: April 20, 2018, 03:04:18 AM
I've noticed that CryptUnit.com's stats are suspiciously incorrect at times, especially reported hash rate.  This has the effect of manipulating where a lot of miners put their hash power.   Just an observation.  Double check all data before making decisions and don't chase short-term stats.

It would better to not report any data than incorrect data.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / For those running HP server power supplies: how hot do they get? on: December 04, 2017, 05:19:52 PM
Just picked up my first HP 1200W PSU to try out.  It runs VERY hot, too hot to touch.  One time the fan did kick in to high speed and it cooled down but most of the time the fan is barely moving any air at all.  I'm only running 350W on 120V, so it's less than half of full load (full load on 120V is 900W).

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Why isn't there one good ETN pool? And where is all the network hashpower going? on: December 02, 2017, 05:20:50 AM
So I've looked at the top five ETN pools and they all basically suck.  If you're lucky you'll get 70% of what you should be getting and that won't be consistent.  Worse case is you'll get half or less.  And that's assuming the pool stays up which most of them are not doing very well in that regard as most have been under DDoS attack or just plain don't know what they're doing.

And where is all the hashpower?  ETN has a network of 150 MH/s and the top five pools account for maybe 20% of it, tops.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / No video in TeamViewer or VNC after boot until I plug in a monitor on: November 19, 2017, 09:28:17 PM
H110 motherboard.  I've tried both integrated and PCI for primary display in the BIOS, no difference.  As soon as I plug in a monitor I get video in TeamViewer and VNC until I reboot again.

I'm assuming a dummy plug will solve this?  Does it matter if the plug goes into the integrated DVI-D port or any port on one of my GPUs?  Probably as long as it matches what my primary is set to in the BIOS but that may not matter.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / How would you power 12 Vegas on one rig? Need suggestions. on: November 16, 2017, 11:30:47 PM
Trying to design a 12 Vega 56 rig based on a H110 PRO BTC+ motherboard (I realize that this may not even be feasible from an operating system/driver support view yet but I am confident it eventually will be).  Given that the Vegas require 2 8 pin power cables plus you need to power the riser it's kind of tricky to figure out the best way to power all this.

I am thinking maybe a 750W ATX PSU to power the MB and two of the 12 Vegas.  That leaves 10 to be powered from a 2400W HP server PSU (which should be enough wattage) using a breakout board with 24 8 pin cables.  20 of the 24 cables would go to the Vegas which would leave 4 to power 10 risers.  I would use splitters to get enough connections for the risers or I could power some of them off the ATX PSU.

Is there a simpler/better way to do this?  I could also use two ATX PSUs but that is a lot more money, especially to achieve the same efficiency that the HP could achieve.  Plus I don't think ATXs would have anywhere near the number of available power cables.

Another option to simplify things is limit the rig to 6 or 8 Vegas and fill in the rest with RXs I have, though at this point I don't plan on buying any more RXs unless they drop to well below $200.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Monitoring hash rates through console window scraping? on: November 14, 2017, 07:06:08 PM
So I'm trying to put together a plan for monitoring and alarming for all of my rigs.  I tend to run different mining software depending on profitability so I haven't one found management solution that covers everything.  For example, I'm currently using Cast XMR but it doesn't have an API.

My thought is to put together a screen-scraping application to extract hash rates and then make them available via a JSON API which I can then use remotely from a web server or app.  The app would be configurable so that it could extract the information from any miner app that outputs status information in a console (which is pretty much every miner).  Before I embark on that project is there anything existing that would accomplish that?

Ultimately it could also extract temperatures, fan speeds, and anything else that the miner displays in the console.  I would like to build a web dashboard that displays all of the info for the entire farm.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Winter is coming: what's the coldest ambient temp. you've run your rigs? on: November 08, 2017, 05:08:21 AM
I am currently running my rigs in an unheated space.   I'm hoping that even if outside temps get down to below freezing there won't be any issues with the rigs seeing as how they put out enough heat to keep the surrounding area well above freezing.  I may build an enclosure if necessary.

So what's the lowest ambient temps you've run rigs?
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Server power supplies - 6 pin to 6+2 power cables on: November 05, 2017, 07:58:56 PM
So all of these breakout boards I've seen such as what Parallel Miner sells use 6 pin to 6+2 power cables.  PC power supplies have true 8 pin to 6+2 power cables.  Is 6 pin output a concern for high power cards like the Vegas?  I assume it's ok but there must be a reason PC PSUs provide 8 pin output instead of 6.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Wattman sucks! Can OverdriveNTool completely replace the need for Wattman? on: November 04, 2017, 02:35:12 AM
I so sick of Wattman.  Lack of profile support and constant crashing/resetting of parameters.  Come on AMD, this is pathetic.

I just discovered OverdriveNTool.  I like what I see so far but I need to know if it is safe to uninstall Wattman and rely completely on Overdrive?
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Trying a Vega 56 - questions, issues on: November 01, 2017, 11:59:11 PM
So I just got a Gigabyte Vega 56 to try out.   There doesn't seem to be a lot of threads out there yet about Vega mining so hopefully this thread can contribute some useful information.

Here's some data:

Stock settings out of the box I get 32.7 Mh/s on ETH.   The hash rate drops after four minutes fairly quickly to 30 Mh/s due to temperature increase to 75C.  One would think the auto fan control would be a better job.  Manually setting the fan to even 40% knocks the temp down by 20C.

Increasing the memory clock to 950 from the stock 800 gets the hash rate to 38.9.

If you're running Vegas how many are you running per rig?  Are you running with mixed RXs and/or Nvidias?

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / So what is the latest info on replay protection in SegWit2x? on: October 26, 2017, 05:42:11 PM
So I was reading about the opt-in replay protection for 2x using the "3bit" magic Bitcoin address hack.  What a cluster ****.  Then I read that they are NOT doing that and there is no plan for replay protection at all at launch.

So what's the current story?  If there is in fact no replay protection at all what will that mean for security?  This could be a train wreck for both blockchains.  It boggles my mind that 85% of miners are backing something that could literally destroy their livelihood.
12  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Who picks their own seed words? on: October 15, 2017, 06:55:19 AM
So I got a Nano S.  Since I'm new to it I let it pick the 24 seed words but I'm thinking about trying to pick my own to make it easier to memorize.  Yes yes I'm aware that I can't make it too simple, duh.  But I can envision worst case scenarios where I may be traveling and my Nano gets lost or stolen or broken and it's unlikely I'll have my seed list with me.  Way better to keep it in my head.  Of course there then are issues of how you are going to set up a new wallet but that's a separate problem.  The first problem is simply having the seed words.

So who has done that?   How difficult was it to come up with something?  I know the structure matters so it may not even be very practical.
13  Economy / Computer hardware / Nano S problem - can't connect on: October 14, 2017, 07:01:31 PM
Got a Nano S last week.  Set up went fine and I even reset and restored to verify my seed words.  But today I tried to connect and open my ETH wallet and it won't open.  The Manager app and Bitcoin wallet do work however.

I rebooted the PC so that's not the problem and tried it on another PC.  This really shakes my confidence in this product.

BTW Ledger, the "Need assistance?" link on the ETH wallet doesn't work, it goes to a broken web link.  I mean, seriously?
14  Economy / Exchanges / 0.001 Bitcoin Tx Fee on: October 11, 2017, 07:53:30 PM
Bittrex charges 0.001 BTC for the Tx Fee.  Is that pretty typical?

That's almost $5 now.  That's insane.  I normally move funds around using ETH to avoid the BTC fees but I do need to move some BTC off exchanges to my hardware wallet.
15  Economy / Computer hardware / Ledger Nano S question - receiving Bitcoin on: October 11, 2017, 07:30:46 PM
Why does the Ledger wallet app in Chrome ask me how much Bitcoin to receive?  It appears to be an optional field since it is grey but why is it even there?

Also on a side note, if you have one of these Ledger hardware wallets, be very careful if you restore using the 24 word seed.  When re-entering each word you only enter enough letters for it to present a list of 2 or 3 or 4 words to pick from (an "auto-complete" type thing).  If you pick the wrong word accidentally it appears you either have to start over or worse if you don't realize you picked the wrong word you now will have a whole different account!

Also did they really have to use a 24 word seed?  12 or 18 would be much more convenient and still perfectly secure.  I don't see any way to force it to use the smaller seeds, is there?
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Using the additional 6 pin power connector on RX 580s? on: September 27, 2017, 07:53:17 PM
I always see it mentioned that you don't need to use both the 8 pin and the 6 pin power connector when mining.  But why not?  We are pushing these cards to their limit, why would that not help?  Is it because we are not overclocking the core, just the memory?  Or maybe because we're not actually driving monitors with the cards.

Has anyone tried using both power connectors to see if it does increase the hash rate?
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mining Zcash on: September 27, 2017, 07:37:40 PM
Some incredible mining profit spikes on Zcash since last night but they only last a few minutes.  My rig makes about $8-9 per day the last week mining ETH/DCR or Zcash and last night Zcash spiked to $11.50 for a few minutes.

I'm even mining it with my AMD cards.  I did not realize how little power 570s and 580s use to mine Zcash compared to ETH and ETH/dual mining.  My 4 AMD cards are using almost 300W less when mining ZCash vs ETH/DCR!  That works out to about 75 cents per day saved on power and everything runs much cooler.  So now I am factoring that into my decisions about what to mine.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Anyone have Wattman working with TeamViewer or Remote Desktop? on: September 25, 2017, 07:20:58 PM
Wattman just displays a white window (or sometimes translucent) in both of those remote viewing apps.  So I literally have no way to use Wattman remotely, I have to plug in a monitor and keyboard/mouse to the rig.  Very irritating.

Why don't I just use Afterburner?  Afterburner doesn't work with my AMD cards, never has.  That's a whole nother problem.
19  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / At what point will you stop mining? on: September 22, 2017, 07:16:00 PM
My little six card rig that was doing $10 per day last week is now barely doing $7.50 and minus power I'm lucky to net $5.

Throw in what's going to happen with ETH and GPU mining might be just about done for, at least for now.  May be time to gamble on an Antminer.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / suprnova pool users: is your account locked in the last few days? on: September 14, 2017, 09:17:45 PM
Tried to log in a few minutes ago says my account is locked.  Saw another poster from two days ago with same issue.  Message says to check my email for instructions to unlock but no email has been received.
