21  Economy / Digital goods / Bitcoin New York Domains on: July 06, 2023, 06:15:05 PM
Have these 5 domains as a lot.
Have them up on the namesilo marketplace for $25000 each knowing that they more then likely will never move at that price.

Most offers have been coming in at a couple of thousand each but as of now nobody has offered to take them all, wondering if anyone here would want them as a lot.

24  Economy / Reputation / The Why Is DaveF Selling All This Stuff All Of A Sudden Post on: June 09, 2023, 07:22:03 PM
Through other means of communication and asked if everything is OK and why I have been posting and selling a bunch of stuff. So I figure a post here is warranted.
This was I can just point them to this thread.

No I don't need the money. (Although who doesn't need more money.) And no I'm not leaving the crypto world.

It has come down to the simple fact that I an over 50 and I've had plans to display many of these things for years and years and have not. And at this point in time it probably never going to happen. So it's time to slowly move them out. Lets face it if my 2016 Crypto Imperator halving coins or my 2014 Ravenbit's have not been put out somewhere in the condo by now to be shown the odds are just about 0 of it ever really happening.

It's not just cryptocurrency stuff it's a vast collection of hot sauces, that were on display when I living someplace else, but now are just sitting in a climate controlled storage facility. Or the classic car memorabilia and parts which were in my parents basement for 25 years and since they moved has been sitting in that same storage facility or......you get the point.

So most of it is just going to be sold here and other forums over time.

As for the international shipping. It really is a bunch of things. It started YEARS ago when another tenant in the building on the Thursday before a long holiday weekend left an international shipping box out in the hallway that had the wrong customs forms on it. So it was not picked up. And it had some very perishable and very smelly food in it that then sat all weekend. When everyone came into the building the next week the odor was....interesting. This was followed years later by another tenant doing something similar. So now even if it's something that is not going to go bad, all international shipments must be brought to the post office or fedex or wherever. You cannot leave them to be picked up. Landlord is VERY firm on this.

Due to the fact that I do a lot of field IT work getting to a post office during business hours is not always possible so things have sat in my car for weeks on end. I have had a 25 year old graphics card for a retro gaming system for someone in Korea sitting in my car for a couple of weeks now. I have known him since I was a teen so he does not care, but someone paying real money *should* get really annoyed with me for doing that. So, it's just easier to say no international, find someone to re-ship. Yeah, I know it's more expensive to you and a pain in the ass. Sorry.

25  Economy / Collectibles / [Sold] Pair of Moonbits 1k Brass Chips on: June 04, 2023, 11:07:49 PM

26  Economy / Collectibles / WTS 2018 Bitcoin Penny™ PLATINUM Graded PR68 Reverse Auction on: May 28, 2023, 02:34:46 PM
No idea what the value of this is, and since were are so few of them made and even fewer graded I figure a reverse auction is the way to go.
Could be totally wrong, but why not give it a shot.

For those not familiar, a reverse auction is where I start the bidding at price "X" which may or may not be high for what the item is worth and then over time I slowly drop it until someone buys it.

And it also allows for more privacy, you can PM me that you want it and you get it. No, public info if you don't want it.

Check below the images for more information.

It originally sold for BTC0.07  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4731555.0
So that is where I'll start this.

The payment address is: bc1qdufcfvlqtuhed84qrs4lfrhfla2ryw6jzljezu

Will drop it every few days until it sells.

So as of 28-May-2023 it's BTC0.07 shipped US
4-June-2023 Dropping to BTC0.0625
8-June-2023 Dropping to BTC0.0600
19-June-2023 Dropping to BTC0.0575
25-June-2023 Dropping to BTC0.0525
6-July-2023 Dropping to BTC0.05
31-July-2023 Dropping to BTC0.0475

I WILL NOT ship this out of the US. This not me being difficult. I cannot leave things that need customs forms at either my home or job to be picked up, and since I violated the no international rule the other day I have had something that sold on another unrelated forum in my car for over a week trying to get to the Post Office during business hours to drop it off. I know minerjones https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=346731 has re-shipped internationally for other people here so he might be able to do it for this too. But, I am not volunteering his (or anyone) else's reship service.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask. (And yes, Dave are you out of your mind asking so much for this is a valid question, but the answer still is...don't know what it's worth so it's as good a place as any to start it...)

28  Economy / Exchanges / What do you actaully consider KYC in terms of information that has to be given on: April 27, 2023, 05:40:04 PM
With more and more exchanges asking for KYC, and some people being a bit more privacy oriented / or even just caring about it then others. I was just wondering what people thought of KYC info vs. 'whatever info'

Picking on localcoinswap.com they ask for an email address to sign up that then then send a code to for verification and then a cell phone that they can send a text to.

That's it. But some people consider that KYC. I look at it as since I have a few phone numbers that cannot be tracked back to me [no real reason just wound up with them] that it's not KYC. Send me a text, to that number I really don't care.

Some places go deeper and ask for an address and other things but really never verify it. I have a few places that think I live in a building that was torn down a few years ago.

Then you have the 'full anal probe' KYC

So, for me the 1st 2 are not a big deal. It's just the last one that *I* think is KYC.

What do the rest of you think? And do you really care so long as there are non KYC options.

30  Bitcoin / Hardware / Gordon Moore, creator of Moore's Law, co-founder of Intel has died. on: March 25, 2023, 02:04:27 PM
Probably not the best place to discuss it, but I figure it's worth a mention here in the hardware section since over the years we have had a lot of discussions about Moore's Law and how much speed we can get out of how small a die on a chip and if it would keep going or would we hit a size / speed wall.

He was one of the co-founders of intel and in general a really intelligent person: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Moore

Probably did more to advance ICs more then any other person.

RIP

31  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Bitcoin developer James O’Beirne has proposed a new Bitcoin pruned node. on: March 18, 2023, 12:17:30 PM
https://protos.com/bitcoin-core-developer-proposes-new-type-of-pruned-node/
Quote
Rather than the status quo — setting a number of blocks and compressing historical blocks prior to that milestone — O’Beirne’s assumeUTXO is an experimental way for new Bitcoin full nodes to delay their need to verify historical transactions until the user receives recent transactions.

AssumeUTXO-compatible node clients would contain a hard-coded hash of the conditions necessary to spend all bitcoin (the UTXO set) as of a safe, recent point in time (O’Beirne’s variant of the popular Bitcoin Core client, Bitcoin Core #25740, supports assumeUTXO).

I'm not going to post the full article here. BUT WHY, JUST WHY.
There are a lot of things to be spending time and effort developing, this should be so far on the bottom of the list that we can't even see it.

It is only going to make things worse for people as they try to run more and more on less capable hardware.

It's a 3 step process.
1) Install OS
2) Install core
3) Wait a couple of days for it to sync.

OR

Use a lite wallet.

If you are running a node to secure the network, do it properly with enough hardware and time to do it.

Sorry, this is just becoming an annoyance of mine. Used low hour 1TB drives are cheap / free from people getting rid of them new are just about free, 8 year old PCs that can run a full node with no issues are cheap / free.  <--Yes this is a US / EU thing I can't speak to the rest of the world but still.

Makes you wonder how much of this is out there. Not the miner or 2 running in an office. But a more than a dozen or so that are shown in the picture.

Plenty of older buildings out there with power and ducting going who knows were as things were moved and reconstituted and changed over years and years of needing to have different things configured in different spaces.

34  Economy / Service Discussion / Has anyone heard of the crypto paymet processor rocketfuelblockchain.com? on: February 19, 2023, 02:23:32 PM
I never did until this weekend and then I saw them pop up on 2 sites that I use.
They seem to have been around for a while and have some nice features.

Other things seem like they are doing a lot of tracking such as you can see a list of what purchases you made at what merchants and they do allow for subscriptions so a bit more tracking of what you do. Their accepted coins list is long with a standard array of crap coins too.

As I said, up until yesterday never head of them, but since they have been out there for a while I figure someone else has.
Did a quick forum search but did not see them discussed, but I'm on a crap tablet VPNed into my home so thins are REALLY slow.

35  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Serously You Label Your Metal Seed Storage Plate?? on: February 18, 2023, 04:42:38 PM
I just noticed that Keystone and a few others actually have their name on the seed plate:

There are others but these were the 1st images I could quickly dig up.

Why don't you just put a layer of bright orange enamel on the outside and print valuable stuff inside on it.

OK, I think it's a bit much to have your logo on something that is supposed to be safe / hidden while holding something valuable.
I just bought one for a friend and saw the logo and was thinking WTF???

Just me or do others agree?

36  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / New HW wallet announced: COLDCARD Q1 on: February 09, 2023, 03:59:11 PM
New product coming 'soon' from coldcard

Looks to be interesting. Lets see how it really turns out.
Basically a MK4 cold card with a larger screen and real keyboard and a few other features but the underlying hardware is the same.
And where the price really winds up in the end. It's $200 pre-order. Who knows if it will actually stay that way.

38  Bitcoin / Press / [2023-01-29] New York State Takes a Step Toward Cryptocurrency Adoption on: January 31, 2023, 02:16:03 PM
New York State Takes a Step Toward Cryptocurrency Adoption with New Bill

https://cryptonews.com/news/new-york-state-takes-step-toward-cryptocurrency-adoption-with-new-bill.htm

Quote
The state of New York has announced a new bill that would allow agencies to accept cryptocurrency as a form of payment for fines, civil penalties, taxes, fees, and other payments charged by the state.......

Going to be interesting to see how this plays out, how much traction it gets as it winds though the process. Seems on the surface to have some people behind it who are good and getting things done but in the end if there is resistance from other people will they choose to fight for it or pick another battle. In the end with more and more places in general accepting crypto payments I can't see it not happening sooner or later.

Also, what I find interesting is that what is not discussed is the fact that there are some smaller towns in NY that DO take crypto for some things, they are processing with Cashapp / Block / Square / whatever they are calling themselves these days and crypto is an option. But, I don't think they really care, it was just the quickest & easiest way to take credit cards and crypto came along for the ride. I'm reasonably sure that is the case in a lot of places. They really don't care HOW the funds get to them, just that they get them.
