241  Economy / Service Discussion / BitPay Visa Alert. Cardholders having unauthorized purchases on: October 25, 2019, 01:37:26 AM
So I got this in my email today:

Quote
This week, a handful of BitPay cardholders let us know about unauthorized purchases made online and/or at several specific retail stores. While these appear isolated, we wanted to encourage you to review your transactions in light of what we have learned.
BitPay does not hold your card number or process Visa card transactions. As such, we are working with BitPay’s card program manager to investigate all unauthorized transaction activity with Visa and resolve these issues as soon as possible.
Please report any unauthorized card transactions directly to 1-855-884-7568. A cardholder services specialist will help you.

So, it looks like their card provider got hit.

Figured I would post about it for the people that might not see it in their email.

Surprised nobody posted about this here yet.

243  Bitcoin / Project Development / Piper Wallet v2 and possible remake of v1 on: October 09, 2019, 12:54:11 PM
For those of you who don't know or remember years ago (2013) there was a company that made a product called The Piper Wallet.
It was basically a RPi and a thermal printer in a case that spit out a paper wallet when you pressed a button:

It was never super popular and eventually they stopped making it.

They tried back in August to make a version 2 based off a Game Boy Advance and it didn't go far:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/piperwallet/piperwallet-easy-and-secure-bitcoin-paper-wallets

I did not even see any discussion of it here so I don't know if that was the issue for the V2. I don't reply to every thread I see but I really did not see anything about this at all.

I don't know if he will try again or what his plan is with the new version.

With that being said, adafruit has a kit with a thermal printer, case and the button for $115. The only thing missing is the switch.
https://www.adafruit.com/product/1289

I was thinking of ordering one and seeing if I could duplicate the original.

Good idea? Stupid waste of time and money? Just looking for some input. Will not have time till November / December to do any of it anyway but was wondering what people thought about it.

244  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Is there such a thing as a 2 of 3 phone wallet. (or any x of y for mobile) on: October 05, 2019, 04:14:35 PM
Do any of the phone based wallets have such a feature. Where 3 of us can generate an address and you need 2 of us to spend it?
Looking to do a small project and it's not that we don't trust each other but the amounts at times passing though might occasionally be significant.
This just eliminates a bit of worry about any one device being compromised or someone doing something stupid.

Yeah I know we can do it with PCs and some hardware wallets but we are looking to do this a slightly different way and for the most part we are going to be doing it while mobile and phones by themselves would be the best. You might forget you ColdCard or your Trezor but you are not going to forget your phone....

246  Economy / Exchanges / Gemini Now Has Billboards on: October 03, 2019, 07:09:56 PM
I don't know if it has been discussed / mentioned but while driving south on I95 in The Bronx I noticed Gemini has a few billboards up.
Did not have a chance to grab my phone and take a picture, but I thought it was interesting.

247  Other / Meta / Do we need a latest version of Wallets sticky thread? on: October 01, 2019, 11:18:57 AM
Saw this post this AM:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5189101.new#new

For all versions of all wallets threads like that come up somewhat regularly.
Should someone post and have @gmaxwell and  @achow101 [the mods of the wallet software forum] make sticky a list of the latest versions of the wallets that are listed and the official download locations.

Could avoid some headaches for newbies. And some not so newbies.

The downside is someone or someones would have to stay on top of several different pieces of software for several different platforms and keep it updated.

Figure a discussion about it here would be good.

249  Other / Meta / Posts about things that belong in multiple places. Should there be a way to link on: September 18, 2019, 09:14:21 PM
So, earlier today I posted about a vulnerability in the LastPass plugin for web browsers.
I put the post in:  Bitcoin Forum > Bitcoin > Development & Technical Discussion > Wallet software
Figuring it's a good place to post about something that might matter to people who use web wallets.

OmegaStarScream pointed out that it was already being discussed in a post in Bitcoin Forum > Economy > Marketplace > Service Discussion

I think that where I have it is better, but I do see the argument for having it under service discussion.

Should there be an "approved standard" way for someone to post, a link from one board to another to say, "this is important here / but it's also important there go to this post to discuss more"

We really don't need 2 posts discussing this plugin issue, but I am sure there are people who have never ventured into the marketplace service discssion board, because in their mind it's only about buying & selling stuff.

I did not see this mentioned here but if you are using lastpass make sure you are updated.
They have updated and your extension should auto update but be sure.

Why are you still using web wallets?

Antminer L3+
Yet again I'm selling something for one of my customers.
He is asking $100 shipped to you in the lower 48 states.
I tested it and it was working 100% before posting this.

Will test again and reset to default before shipping.

If you have any questions ask.

253  Economy / Reputation / StackGambler: coincidence or scam on: August 26, 2019, 08:19:53 PM
The user StackGambler posted a thread today about getting help because he was hacked:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5179071

OK, fine. Stuff happens, the fee seems REALLY low as in I'm not sure how you can get it that low, and a hacker / thief would set it high so it would be confirmed in the next block, nice and quick.

Before replying I took a look at his feedback, because something just felt wrong. Not sure what, it just did.

And:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=2559072
3 negatives by somewhat trusted people and a password just changed.

Looking a bit more, you find this post from June 1st:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5149693

1st you ask how to reverse a 0 conf and then you need to a little while later because you were hacked.

Looks like a scam to me.
Anyone else have any input?

254  Other / Meta / Is there a list of all the forum features and links someplace? on: August 25, 2019, 02:59:43 PM
I know you can find the modlog here:
https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php
Or that you can find your report to mods report here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=reportlist;mine

But is there a place where all this kind of stuff is listed? I found out about the modlog while reading a thread someplace and found out about the report to mods link when I asked a question about my reports. I looked for a thread that had a list of all this kind of stuff but did not find it. So, is there one? If not do you think we should make one?

255  Other / Meta / Opinions on who to add to my trust list. on: August 20, 2019, 03:32:31 PM
So, more of Dave’s ramblings but with an interesting twist. As I mentioned in another thread, it’s only recently that I have changed my trust list off of default trust. Most of the people I have added I have had some interaction of some sort on the forum with. Others I have seen their posts and their actions and added them.

There are a few people here, that I have had dealings with in the real world, with 0 interactions here. Not even posting on the same boards. They are mostly altcoiners. Do I add them? I know ‘IRL’ they can be trusted and have good judgement. Here, is a bit more difficult.

In the end it probably does not matter. But yet again, it’s something we probably have to think about and might warrant some discussion.

256  Other / Meta / How often do you "clean" your trust list. on: August 17, 2019, 01:52:12 PM
Some more of DaveF's random thoughts.

I know a lot of users here add people to your trust list, either to trust them or distrust them on a regular basis.
I also a lot of users remove or change people on a regular basis based on actions / posts / whatever.
Full disclosure, I was not one, I just started changing stuff from default trust.

BUT, how many users go back and look for inactive accounts that they are trusting.

I was going through my list adding people and noticed I was about to add a user that has not been here for 4 years. I did a lot of trades with them back in 2014 / 2015 never had a bad dealing. And then I went though LoyceV's listings of trust that people have for other people. And found some people are trusting users that have not been online for 3+ years.

At what point might it be "prudent" to purge some of them from your trust list. Lets face it, if their account wakes up they may or may not be the same user that they were back then.
Be it hacked accounts / sold accounts / people change a lot in 3 years /etc.
I am not saying distrust them, just not trust them until they "re-prove" themselves.

Just my random thoughts, feel free to comment or just ignore my ramblings.

258  Other / Meta / At what point does feedback spam warrant a ban / nuking? on: August 07, 2019, 09:02:11 PM
Let me start with I *know* I should let this go and not feed the trolls. I know it, I can feel it in my bones just ignore him.
But for some reason with this one I can't.

So with the above being said.
game-protect has now left over 100 negative feedbacks to anyone who dares to
1) Support the flags against him
2) Participate in a signature campaign that he does not like.
3) Make any negative comment against him.

Take a look here.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=874254

Yes, I got 3 from him.
Since he has massive negative trust and is 99.999% never going to make it onto any trust list it really does not matter.

However,

Posting this to 50+ members profiles:

Or this one to subSTRATA profile:

Is there a limit to what will be tolerated?

I think there is and he went way past it.

If @theymos or any staff says no he didn't then I will listen to them, let it go, and ignore gp.

BUT, I do think there should be some kind of discussion about what is permitted and what is not.

Thanks for reading my ramblings.

259  Other / Meta / Stupid Question After Being Here 5+ Years on: August 07, 2019, 01:20:47 AM
So some of my posts got removed:

Name:   DaveF
Posts:   1224
Activity:   1228

Didn't get a PM about it so from what I can tell either the entire thread was nuked or I posted in a someones self moderated thread.

So, the stupid question is there a way I can find out what got removed?
Does not really matter, just curious.

Thanks,
