61  Economy / Reputation / CODEX.ONE using bumping services + connection to a merit farmer and a hacker on: November 23, 2018, 06:17:45 PM
Earlier, I noticed the following thread receiving multiple comments within a short period of time, so I did a little bit of digging and found a pattern:
- Take note:
  • That's not the case with most threads on "Service Announcements" board [usually it's quite quiet].

Thread in question: [Official Thread] CODEX.ONE - Officially Licensed Cryptocurrency Exchange
- Thread (archived)

Question: A bumping service or something else?
62  Economy / Reputation / Another user asking/begging for a "Merit" on: November 14, 2018, 01:53:11 PM
Yesterday, I received the following PM from "lisogorchik":

This thread serves as a reference to my feedback [will report as well] (shortly) + What's the exact duration of a temp ban for users sending unsolicited PMs (e.g. this case)?
63  Economy / Exchanges / [CoinPayments.net] ShapeShift Notice on: October 27, 2018, 01:47:07 PM
Earlier this morning, I received the following "email":

Quote
You are receiving this email because you have a conversion option enabled on one or more of your accepted coins on the Coin Settings page. Note that due to changes at ShapeShift in order to continue having your coins converted you must link your ShapeShift account by October 30th.

You can find the option to link it at the top of the Coin Settings page or there is more information and a step-by-step tutorial on our blog at https://blog.coinpayments.net/announcements/shapeshift-kyc-requirement

My concern:
- Since there's a deadline, will I lose having that option (ShapeShift's conversions) permanently (if I don't link my ShapeShift account before the deadline)?
  • The main issue is my current location. Shapeshift's services are no longer an option for me but I'll be relocating in few months and was planning to do the KYC after the relocation.

I prefer to not look for other options + I do know that they have other options [within their platform] for conversions:

Please note that we also provide coin conversion services through Changelly and Kyber Network where KYC verification is NOT currently required. However, coin availability, pricing and liquidity may become an issue depending on which coin you are trying to convert. If no coin conversion pair is available through these two platforms, then the only provider for that coin conversion option will be ShapeShift and you will require a verified ShapeShift account, otherwise you will receive the following error message: “You have to link your ShapeShift account before you can convert this pair.”

- Changelly: I no longer trust them (a lot of complaints/accusations against them) + for large conversions, they have KYC requirements (AFAIK).
- Kyber Network: Based on their coin availability, it's not an option for me.
64  Other / Meta / Users spreading malware (cryptojacking) + strange behavior on: October 20, 2018, 05:33:15 PM
Users in question:

a) Recently they both started posting (after a lengthy hiatus) multiple threads across different boards (including local boards).
b) I scanned the link of the service (Mammon) that they were promoting but nothing came up on virustotal and other similar website.
c) Then I checked the included YouTube link (only some of the threads have it). I noticed there's a different link (original one) on the description of the video than the one given on these new threads.
d) So I searched for the original thread and found it: Mammon - Desktop Ticker Price Tracker
e) Then I went over the other given links (from the above two users) and surprisingly, they included "this Medium link (explains the cryptojacking part)".
  • That was the strange part since it pushed me to look deeper and I end up finding the following connection:
    • I looked for other virustotal's alternatives and found "ReScan.pro" (result).
    • The above screenshot (result), only shows half of the link but if you go to "RedirectDetective" and paste the link address from "mammon (Download Mac App v0.2.9 button)", it "shows" that it's the exact same link (redirects) from the original website (teamfox [Download Mac App v0.2.8 button]).
Conclusion:
- The above results shows the connection between "seniorhuman, Rockford99 and rcocchiararo" and if we take the above "Medium" link into consideration, then these three users have spread malware (cryptojacking) across different boards and need to be punished.

This thread serves as a reference for my report.

Just reposting this since the announcement thread has been trashed (due to plagiarism, nuked user) and "google didn't archive our comments (sometimes it leads to an error), only the first post" + the website in question is still up, so I want this thread to serve as a reminder/warning to new users before using their services:

68  Economy / Reputation / A question regarding duplicate/alt accounts that join bounties! on: June 22, 2018, 06:43:59 AM
Recently, I've seen a lot of cases that falls under the category of "abuse" (when it comes to participants joining bounties [mostly, social campaigns]). I don't know much about its process (since I don't take part on such bounties) but from what I've seen, there's some room for error (unless I'm missing something):

Apart from connecting them with "sent/received transactions to similar addresses", how to accurately check for their connection (for the following case)?
- AFAIK, the process is automated (they simply fill the needed fields on the google form and apply [automatically added to the list]) so they don't have to post using real accounts and we can't "completely" check for connections between multiple accounts (unless I'm missing something [I'm a bit confused]).

Case #1
- A hater tries to damage someone else's reputation, by using the same address/twitter & FB ID/UID or forum name.

On a side note:
- I think I read somewhere about it (not so sure) but couldn't find it (if someone knows, please link/post it here).
69  Other / Meta / List of suggestions (in no particular order) on: June 19, 2018, 03:30:10 PM
Take note of the following:
  • Few of the suggestions, aren't compatible with the SMF version that we use (1.1.19) but I'm sure we can work something out.
  • I've seen few other users making similar suggestions (few on the list).
  • Don't forget to click on each link (in order to see the pictures/samples).

#1 Forum Epoch

The Forum Epoch will allow you to view the exact date of birth of your forum and the age of the board.

#2 Move Edited Time - While browsing the forum using a cellphone/tablet (android), I can't see the edited time (this mod, solves the issue).

Edited Time Next To Posted Time

#3 FixCopy - Something similar to this but instead of adding the site link, should add the URL of the post (useful when it comes to finding bots that copy/paste using the inside sources).

The FixCopy mod adds your site link at the end of anything copied from your site.

#4 Hide Unused Profile Display Fields

Hides unused profile information on profile display.

#5 Ignore Topics - Previously suggested by "tinus42" (I do know the "Ignore Boards Preferences").

Adds the ability to ignore individual topics for the purposes of RecentPosts/Recent/UnreadReplies/Unread sections of SMF.

#6 Like Posts - Previously suggested by "Vod" (a lot of posts deserve likes, but only few of them deserve merits).

This mod provides and interface to like/unlike posts.

72  Other / Meta / Justin Dowman, not following "once per 24 hrs" bump rule (I warned him/her b4) on: May 18, 2018, 05:10:25 PM
It appears, Justin Dowman isn't respecting & following "once per 24 hrs" bump rule (even after giving him/her a warning on his/her thread):

  • On "May 10" I posted:
~Snipped~
On a side note: You're allowed to bump only once every 24 hrs (I've archived some of your recent bumps [1st and 2nd]).

13. Bumps, "updates" are limited to once per 24 hours.[2]

  • On "May 11" he/she replied:
You are so observant. Sorry for that.

  • On "May 17", I noticed him/her doing it again (I failed to archive the initial bump, due to being at work and thought he/she has already changed [I was wrong]) so later on, I went ahead and reported this user with the "last few bumps (multiple posts and a bump) of the day" (still "Unhandled"):
  • Today, I noticed the exact same behavior from him/her:
- 1st bump
- 2nd bump

On a side note: I'm not complaining about my report, I just want this annoying user to stop (there might be similar actions on his/her other threads [not sure since I didn't monitor those]).

73  Other / Meta / Rules for merging threads? on: May 06, 2018, 09:14:12 AM
Before anything else, I do know the following:

1. Moderators can't merge threads/topics (they can "only" merge posts):
  • They used to but that's not the case at the moment (disabled)
(Moderators no longer have the ability to merge topics due to incidents like this.)

2. Admins are the only one with the ability (merging threads)

These are the rules that I'm aware of:

  • Similar/identical threads
  • Same direction (ex. Lack of having questions that aren't on the other thread)
  • Has constructive replies

Is there anything else?

Take note: I've seen some users suggesting it (mostly, in regards to threads involving "merit"), so I'm hoping to get a clear picture for this matter (merge).

I created this thread, to ask if the following threads can be merged into one (based on the above rules):

Case #1
Mod, please check new plagiarism: Reporting copy/pasting, please permban
Plagiarism and copy/paste posts

- There are few other similar threads (that I didn't link).

Case #2
Suspected users that are abusing merit 3.0
More than 1000 merit abusers found here (clearly motivated) - red trust time
Signature Designers exchanging merits

- More can be found in regards to this topic.

Update:

Only admins can merge threads, and it's only done for technical reasons such as an accidentally-split post. Merging similar threads together just makes a big mess; if too many topics about the same thing are posted, the extras should just be locked or deleted.
74  Other / Meta / A change in forums ads restrictions? on: April 26, 2018, 12:05:03 PM
AFAIK, we were not allowed to have images as forum ads (except for using small logos, partly) but I noticed, there's an "image ad": (Ad info)

SS link: https://imgur.com/a/ZehYPfI

No images, JavaScript, or animation.
Images are not allowed no matter how they are created (CSS, SVG, or data URI). Occasionally I will make an exception for small logos and such, but you must get pre-approval from me first.

Are we allowed to create image ads (now) or should we follow certain things/rules, for having image ads (like the above ad)?
75  Other / Meta / Suggestion for eliminating the possibility of having the exact similar posts on: March 21, 2018, 11:09:13 AM
Recently, "Dartanium" caught my attention.

Noticed he/she posted the exact following post, 28 times across different sections & threads:
Archived: Page 1, Page 2

Suggestion: Not allowing exact similar posts (based on "drafts" or "users posts"), being made from the same user (by forum itself).

Some might say:
They can easily change few words and be able to post again (perhaps having certain limits, can solve that).
76  Economy / Service Discussion / Looking for a service that automates calculations for past TX's real value on: March 13, 2018, 09:37:35 AM
I've been looking for a service or a way to automatically calculate what was the "real worth" for each of the past transactions on single address (with no luck), instead of seeing their "live value" (based on current prices on some of the explorers).

- I know I can do this manually by going over the available charts and simply use those respective numbers/rates in USD and multiply it by the amount of BTCitcoins each of those transactions had (in order to know its value in terms of USD, at that time) but the main issue is "TIME", especially for addresses with a lot of transactions.

Is there a service that does this?
77  Other / Meta / Reason behind having no "Moderators" for some of the local language boards? on: February 11, 2018, 01:47:20 PM
1. Was curious to know why some of the local languages that already have their own boards, still have no dedicated "Moderator"?

a. Hrvatski (Croatian) - A bit of exception (due to how events folded)
b. 日本語 (Japanese) - Last created local board, through a request
c. 한국어 (Korean) - Also a bit of exception since "theymos posted this"
d. Skandinavisk

Even though for few of the above there's the cases of demotion, the question still applies (due to lack in moderation within these periods)...

2. Just to be clear, I'm not involved in any of the above local boards but was also wondering why having a "Moderator" in mind, isn't mandatory prior to creating a local language board (unlike for demand and etc...)?
78  Other / Meta / Is this the new trend for spammers/account farmers? on: January 13, 2018, 08:40:02 AM
Noticed the following user "Spike1337", keeps on posting similar posts across different local boards:

Hello, I am planning to move to India for 6 months, and I will receive money via Bitcoin, how to withdraw that money there in India? Is that possible through there wallets?

Hello, Plan to move to Thai for 6 month, I will receive salary as bitcoin, do you guys know will I be able to withdraw money from local Thai exchanges?

Hello, Plan to move to Singapore for 6 month, I will receive salary as bitcoin, do you guys know will I be able to withdraw money from local Singapore exchanges?

Hello, Plan to move to Malaysia for 6 month, I will receive salary as bitcoin, do you guys know will I be able to withdraw money from local Malaysia exchanges?

Hello, plan to move to Iran for 6 month, do you guys know how to send money from Iran to Georgia (Country not state) and is that easy, does it have some limits and how much is fee?

And can you suggest me site where I can search houses for rent?

Thank you and sorry for posting in English.

Although in one of his/her posts, he/she states the following (made it green), I still think this is just a way to rank up the account and no real intention for such things (considering his/her other posts from the beginning):

Thank you guys for kind replies, I have choice between Malaysia, Singapore and Thai, I will choose best option for me but right now I want to go to Malaysia.

Can you suggest which city will be best option for me and if you have any suggestions feel free to give me an advise.

PS: I won't be able to withdraw money from luno or local exchanges? only through localbitcoins? I don't want to trust them Smiley

79  Other / Meta / User keeps on deleting an update and posts another one (in less than 24 hrs) on: December 09, 2017, 03:57:52 PM
Noticed the following user (wasubii) keeps on deleting the 2nd post on his thread (every few hrs) and re-posts it with only a very minimal changes (# of transactions to be exact) in less than 24 hrs (then immediately locking his thread).

Thread link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2548205.0
Last bump: http://archive.is/tYM6s
The other bump: http://archive.is/nUsur

The mentioned user, has done this more than the archived versions (I'm sure others have noticed his actions as well). Was going to archive some more before creating this thread, but since it's getting annoying, I thought I give it a go (he's been doing this since yesterday).

Update:
Another bump: http://archive.is/eNuJh

Update 2:
And another one: http://archive.is/5EJLc

Update 3:
Still counting: http://archive.is/xy3nU

Update 4:
One more.

Site is an obvious scam, there is no way they can guarantee a confirmation in 10 minutes (next block) and they are using the ConfirmTX UI, and ConfirmTX ended up as a scam.
Indeed. Thank you for this.

The trend continues: http://archive.is/30ZTt

Update 5:
Every time I check the Services board, this thread is in the top due to his countless bumps.

Can hilariousandco or any other mod confirm if that's allowed? Do I report the user if he is locking his thread and bumping it multiple times through the day? (especially if it is some kind of scam)
It isn't allowed. Clearly he's abusing it so he could promote his scam accelerator website.

Another bump (once again): http://archive.is/Ms4lN

Update 6:
There's another thread (similar name and just different website extension): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2555452.0
Archive version of it: http://archive.is/lR1Nb

Update 7:
I'm about to sleep and there's another bump: http://archive.is/0vIdh

Update 8:
Are the mods going to do anything about this?

I just checked the scammer's address and he already got 28 transactions (0.02BTC) in just two days.
His thread is ALWAYS at the top of the Services board, and every Newbie that came from the recent price spike and has stuck transactions is going to get scammed.  Smiley

His address: https://blockchain.info/address/18bf9SUNf5Qgo5NMXqPsf35spp8yUpkacu

And guess what? Another user just launched his own scam-of-the-scam accelerator with a free domain.

AND HE ALREADY RECEIVED 8 TRANSACTIONS (0.011BTC).

The "original" fake accelerator: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2548205.0
The fake fake accelerator: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2555687.0

LOL

Most likely they haven't noticed this thread (yet). Unfortunately scams aren't moderated here but he has to be punished for breaking a rule (due to abusing the bump action that he's been doing since the other day).

Just woke up and here's another archived new bump: http://archive.is/ktvNr
80  Economy / Reputation / Trust farming user caught on the act + Other alt account found on: December 01, 2017, 03:17:04 PM
Earlier today, I noticed another of the so-called "free accelerator threads" popping out and as result, I got curious and found some interesting things:

Archived version: http://archive.is/PhCr6

First thing that I did, was to check for his "Trust summary": https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=1123023
Screenshot of the "Trust summary" page, since I can't archive it: https://imgur.com/a/M30zQ

1. See how smokeagile, left a positive rating a day after the negative rating that user ccorg left on, due to this.

2. Then found this thread that smokeagile created (today as well).
Archived version of it: http://archive.is/pTuaU

Check the transaction ID that he posted: https://blockchain.info/tx/1ab77460db28247071e388b9a36bb96517bf0598b7b8e983f7a2625aa3520d69
after that in my blockchain it show "transferring" my exodus BTC to blockchain.. but i never got the confirmation. ( but in my Exodus, i still saw the money , but i cant spend it )
Meaning both addresses are connected to him:
Code:
1NfrDpBKBLFswEzytLeSyShrMhRbcxmMGi

3. Then I checked commenkiz recent posts and found this post.
