Hi guys Raven coin halving is around the corner and I’m wondering how it will affect the profitability of mining the coin? If I understand well, we’ll get half of the coins after the halving so miners will have the half of the income if every other condition remains the same. I know that the halving will affect the price of the coin and hopefully it will go up but will that be enough to let us mine with a profit after that? Thanks for your thoughts

I hope this is the right place to ask: I have googled it first, but I find only grin node on raspberry pi Is it possible (and worth the energy/time) to set up and start mining grin with a raspberry pi? (I have an unused one in the drawer and I'm trying to find a job for it ) Thanks for your thoughts!

I'd like to ask Theymos to check my lucky number too, as killyou72 I'm also above the maximum legendary limit in activity now, and since I've become a Hero I was alway curious what my number could be. I know my merits are not enough now to rank up, it's not a problem for me, but I'm very curious what was my lucky number... Theymos, please please pretty please (of course if it's not a problem, I don't want to start a flood of similar topics in Meta...)

In the fake conversion topic I have just mentioned something and I would like to ask for your thoughts in connection with this. It would be a kind of "heath index" for each topic. The index would be a %, we should deduct the number of the reported/deleted posts in the topic from the original post count of the topic and it should be divided by the original post count of the topic. So if a topic has e.g. 100 posts and 2 posts are deleted because of reports, the health index of the forum is (100-2)/100 which is 98%. But if we found a bumped topic in the ANN section and it contains 1000 posts, and we report 520 as spam/low quality/copypaste/etc... the health index of the topic would be (1000-520)/1000 which is 48%. Every topic which has a health index below 50% could get automatically locked to stop the spam megathreads... In this case, we could deal with bump bots, because now we cannot handle this situation easily... by the time your report will make the bump post delete, the topic gets another bump post, so it's not effective... Another thing is, if we could arrange the topics by the health index, we could found topics with quality content more easily...

I'm reading various topics in Bitcoin Discussion now, and I don't know why I can't find the posts with Google search... E.g.: in the topic Cryptocurrency Exchange In Japan Is Offering Bitcoin Loan I was trying to google this phrase: "you will borrow capital to start your business" /site:bitcointalk.org The result is: 1 result (0.19 seconds) Search Results Web results Latest posts of: CrimBit - Bitcoin Forum https://bitcointalk.org › ... › Re: Is bitcoin investors more focus than altcoin investors? I think it's a good idea to attract more people into bitcoin and also to be more involved in bitcoin. Logically in real life, you will borrow capital to start your business ... The strange thing is that Google don't find the post in the topic itself but only in the user's post history.... I don't know why this can happen but it makes extreamly harder for me to find plagiarism and text spinning.... Any thoughts? Does Google crawl this forum slower than expected?

I've got a few sMerits still, and I'd like to help newbies to rank up, so: 1.) If you are still a newbie, and 2.) you have less than 100 posts and 3.) You have at least 5 quality posts in Bitcoin section (posts in Altcoin section, Off topic, etc... doesn't count, because this is a Bitcoin forum. Also due to language barrier I'm unable to merit local posts) then please copy the links to your 5 best posts here, inside code tags (button # just above the smileys), like this: Username: Link to the profile: Post link #1 Post link #2 Post link #3 Post link #4 Post link #5 E.g.: Username: bitart Link to the profile: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=552813 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5032458.msg45914947#msg45914947 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3775593.msg44256445#msg44256445 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5007239.msg45353149#msg45353149 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3831432.msg44036328#msg44036328 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4742257.msg43284725#msg43284725
Every newbie has 1 chance to apply for the post review and can get 1 merit based on the quality of the posts, there's no need to post 2-3 applications here, just select your best 5 posts, and that's all.
How to get 1 additional merit: You can have 1 more chance to get 1 additional merit, so you can end up with 2 merits in the end, here is how: Go and find a post from 5 newbies, which you think worths merit (good quality, the same applies as above, less than 100 posts, inside bitcoin section and still newbie). If you post those 5 other posts here and it turns out that at least 3 of them really worths merit, you'll receive another merit because of your contribution (if you have at least 2 meritable posts, of course). Hint: If you have just a few posts above 100, you can delete some of your older posts and you'll be eligible for the review I'll do the reviews every weekend so you should wait patiently. I'll let all you know if I have already done the review of your posts, so you'll have the information. There's no need to PM me, becasue PM's from newbies are disabled. EDIT: Jackg, thanks, modified, that makes sense EDIT2: Local updated and moved to Beginners

I was thinking about reporting this spinning in the copy/paste topic, but I don't want to mess up that topic, it's fine for copypasting reports, but text spinning is not that straightforward, so this is why I've opened this topic.
Modlog, to check if the spinner has been banned: https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php
User: Vishay Page Banned https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2344810Original: ~ the current enhancements ~
are you hinting at Schnorr? in any case the only way price goes up is with more adoption and it only stays up with more merchant adoption. all these "enhancements" are great but it takes time for them to start being used. for instance i do believe that LN will not be used that much until it is meaning some day one of the big ones like an exchange would start implementing it and then the LN usage will go through the roof in less than a month as others follow.so we need that kind of trigger to happen and that can be the ignition for the big rise to come. although this is not the only reason that can lead to a rise. even without these "enhancements" bitcoin is still the only decentralized currency in the world with scarce supply. Archive: http://archive.is/U9QesSpinned: For example, I do trust that LN won't be utilized that much until the point when it is meaning sometime one of the enormous ones like a trade would begin actualizing it and after that the LN utilization will experience the rooftop in under multi month as others take after.
Archive: http://archive.is/USSDcIt seems it was spinbot.com: EDIT: please let me know if I need to move this to the copypaste topic, if there's no need for separate spinner topic

I'm just curious... Is it possible to know that: If I had already earned the necessary 1000 merits (haven't, but theoretically) I would have become a Legendary or not, based on the current activity count? Because I have already 910 activities, that means a possible legendary rank if we don't mind the merits. I know that I'm really far away from the Legendary rank, but I'm still curious to know if it's possible to check if it's only the merits that are missing, or I still haven't reached my necessary activity count too. I know that getting the answer won't change the whole situation at all, but curiosity is a hard thing to deal with

I would propose another sticky topic in Bitcoin Discussion, like: Bitcoin price prediction topics does not belong here, chech the Speculation thread for this And a link to the Speculation thread. I know that people are interested in the future of the Bitcoin price, but somehow we should reduce the topics opened daily, and asking for opinions... Unfortunately, these topics are usually just new Spam megathreads in the end, without any usefult content, so they are just polluting the board...

Today I was curious how a spam megathread looks like nowdays so I've opened a 'classical' one: Who is Satoshi Nakamoto? On the last page I've found a copypaste immediately, a Jr. member just copied a part of the previous post... ArchiveI know that this 'Who is Satoshi' is a classical one, but I would propose to lock it at least (I don't really want this to get deleted). Also, I propose to - auto-lock a thread if it reaches 500 post (or less, let's say a 100) or, - the topic has no new post in 1 or 2 weeks time from now on. The idea behind these proposals is the following: We can have a look easily at the new topics opened in a thread, like in Bitcoin Discussion, using this link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=1.0;sort=first_post;descBut, we cannot check every spam megathread to catch all the spamming newbies and juniors, because spam megathread have a lots of posts, and it's not easy to spot the copypasters too. If we auto-lock the above mentioned topics, spammers have to open new topics to spam. New topics can be checked periodically for copypaste and spam more easily, so it can help to clean the thread on the long run... I know it won't help to fight those copypasters who copy from a topic to another one, but if there's no universal solution, we can do it step by step at least....

How should we handle those kind of posts (OPs for new topics, mostly) where the user copies a sentence from an article and after (s)he posts the link to the original article? It's not a copypaste, so it cannot be reported that way. This is not the whole article, which has been quoted, so the post cannot move to Press, because in the Press section, there's the whole article and after the discussion about it (if any). There are several posts like this in the Bitcoin Discussion thread daily, e.g.: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4414774.msg39305546#msg39305546This is from a newbie with 7 activity, but there are several users who post daily 10 or more similar new topics in Bitcoin Discussion (and nothing else, or maybe just some similar stuff in the Altcoin Discussion too), to gain activity... This is quite disturbing when you are looking for decent topics (if any) in the Bitcoin Discussion, because you have to run thru 7-9 pages daily... Is it possible to restrict at least e.g. the Bitcoin Discussion thread itself to member rank and up? (to open topics, I'm not talking about posting now) Newbies would have plenty of room elsewhere to spam with new topics...

Bitcoin Discussion usually gathers approximately 7-9 additional pages daily. Most of the new topics are the copy of the spam megathreads or some BS from newbies. There should be a bounty or something because today I've found 3-4 copies of this post, each of them was in a separate topic... I know that everybody have the right to express himself/herself and to open a new topic, and also everybody have the right to report these topics to the moderators but we could save a lot of work for everyone if we could somehow manage not to let every newbie post BS everywhere...

The Bitcoin Discussion thread is a spammy thread now, but I think we can stop the spam to have only the quality topics there again. (hopefully) I have reported 3 topics in a row here all of them were articles from different websites without link to the original. I usually don't report them in the copypaste topic if they have at least a link to the original article, in that case I usually advice to move the topic to the Press section. I think it's just another kind of way to gain activity to copy an article and ask "What's your opinion?" Is there any rule of thumb, what to do with these kind of topics? Sometime they copy good articles but this (the Bitcoin Discussion thread) is not the place to have the full articles copied into one topic, it's about general discussion, and Press has the full articles...

I've just reported a smart copypaster, who changes a few words in the copied post and posts into the same thread a bit later... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1926895.msg37725316#msg37725316This is not the classic copypaste thing, but I think we need to deal with it similarly if it was a real copypaste. I just can't understand why they are doing this, to post into the same topic, even when they can find several similar threads, but they just copy and paste into the same thread, on the same page, it's impossible not to spot this... Does this behaviour deserve a ban? Original: ... Why Goverment is not recommending to use digital currency such a bitcoin? Because the government cannot controll it over. The government doubts the digital currency will be used illegal activities.
Copypaste with a minimal edit: ... Why Goverment is not recommending to use digital currency such a bitcoin, because The government cannot control bitcoin over. The goverment afraid bitcoin can be used illegal activities.

I don't know if my PC is infected or what has happened, but I just can't see the post count when I open a topic. Instead, I can see a word: 'leet' and that's all. If I check my profile, everything is fine, but in the topics I can't see the posts like before. Should I restart my PC first?

I can see every day a bunch of new topics like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3650159.0First post: The parent company of New York Stock Exchange, ICE is reportedly working on a bitcoin exchange for big investors that will allow them to trade and hold bitcoin. After Goldman Sachs’ bitcoin future trading desk and Nasdaq’s collaboration with Gemini, Wall Street is slowly but surely warming up to the Bitcoin market. here is more : https://coingape.com/nyse-developing-a-bitcoin-exchange/What happens if I report it to the moderator, to move the topic to the Press section? Am I doing right or wrong? I'm asking this because in the Press section, usually people copy the whole article and after a link, but what to do with threeliners like this followed by a link? I can understand that people want to let other people know that things happen in the world but this is a special type of copypaste and not a real discussion topic for me.

I have an idea (again ) Maybe this would be just a kind of symptomatic treatment like the painkillers, but anyway painkillers also help, at least for a while... Somewhere I have read to let users to ignore complete topics (spamming megathreads, etc...) to have an easier overview of the new topics and posts in this shitpost ocean, where the quality posts are as rear as desert islands... So, my idea is the following: If someone, someday will decide to start to ignore the spam threads and the spammer users, and works hard on it, after a while he/she will have a decent list of the topics/users to ignore. In the current situation, each and every user have to do the same, search for all the topics/posts to ignore, if they want to have a clearer view in the end. I would propose a kind of 'filter' which is similar to an adblock addon, like you can input a list of threads/users to ignore and that would apply for you only, and after the forum would list only the relevant topics, posts for you. Everybody would be able to set the ignore list up for himself/herself, but there should be an option to 'load' a list from someone who you trust/agree with/like/etc... or from a central repository. Just and example: I know that e.g. JetCash has a quite long ignore list, so if some users are happy with JetCash's ignore list, they could apply that filter for themselves as well, and they would save the effort for themselves... I know it's possible to copy the ignore list, but that's only for users, not topics... I know it's hard to develop and to implement, but this is only an idea... If people would start to use a solution like this, this would cause that spammers and shitposters won't bother the majority of the forum, but only each other and the few remaining users who won't apply any kind of 'filter', because this would only be optional (I don't want to force anybody to do anything...) Let me know your cons
