1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Biostar TB85 Mobo - how to change display to Internal/Onboard Graphics? on: August 12, 2020, 08:20:26 PM
Hello everyone, as most of you know, the increased ETH DAG size has caused some problems for those of us mining with 4GB GPUs. I have successfully rectified this situation (for now) on 1 of my ASRock H81 Pro BTC boards by simply entering the BIOS and changing primary display to onboard/internal/integrated graphics, the running Phoenix miner 5.0e.  This worked the first time i tried it... just re-plugged the monitor into the VGA port on mobo after BIOS changed and good to go!

However, I have 2 rigs built on a Biostar TB85 mobo and for some reason, cannot get either of them to change successfully over to Internal Graphics (IGFX in their BIOS).

I tried the following combinations under:  Chipset --> System Agent Config -->

-  Primary Display = IGFX  (with IGFX "enabled")
-  Primary Display = IGFX  (with IGFX "auto")
-  Primary Display = Auto  (with IGFX "enabled")
-  Primary Display = Auto  (with IGFX "auto")

The "best" i am able to get when plugged into mobo's VGA port after these changes is a black screen with an arrow cursor visible but nothing else.

I've now tried this on both my Biostar rigs with the same result, so it seems likely a settings related issue as opposed to a faulty board.

Does anyone have a recommendation on the exact correct BIOS settings to enable this?  In addition to this area of the BIOS, is there another setting that needs to be changed?

Thanks in advance for your help!
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Asus Z270-A Mobo - Can't get into BIOS on: March 14, 2018, 12:40:53 AM
I know a lot of miners use this very nice Asus Z270-A motherboard as it can support up to 8 GPU's.  So, I am hoping that somewhat has experienced the same problem I am having with not being able to enter the BIOS to enable support for more than 4 GPUs.

I built a rig with this Mobo a few weeks ago... currently running 2 1070ti's and 2 1080's... Windows 10 Pro with 8GB RAM like my other rigs.  It has been mining various coins perfectly since that time.

However, I finally got a chance to go in and modify the BIOS so I can add the 2 more 1070ti's I have to it... and for some reason, I cannot get into the bios.  I tried it many times, each time tapping or pressing the Del key or F2 upon start-up, but nothing.

The weird thing is that the Asus splash screen never even appears upon rebooting. Screen goes dark (as normal) but then after that, I get a weird message from my monitor 1) no signal detected, the 2) monitor going to sleep... shortly followed by the windows login screen appearing within a few seconds.  I tried tapping F2 and Del at all times during this few second process but it will not enter the BIOS.

Something else that may or may not be related... for whatever reason, there are a few basic functions that have never worked on this rig.  1- Left-click functionality does not work on either the power options button or in the windows search bar at bottom left of screen. I actually have to right click on the power button then choose reboot that way. 2- left click doesn't work on some launch items in the task bar (like IE), but it does work on the File Folder icon.

FWIW, I have the monitor plugged into the GPU that is plugged into the first PCIE x1 slot (closet to the CPU) via the DVI to HDMI cable that came with my monitor.  Since this and the other 3 GPUs work perfectly for mining, i don;t believe there is any issue with risers, etc.  I read in some Asus forums that monitors needs to be plugged into GPU slot #1, which IMO, mine is.

But, is it possible that by #1 slot they mean the first x16 slot and not the actual first physical slot, which is an x1?

Anyway, any suggestions would be much appreciated. This is probably an easy fix that will make me feel stupid but i just want to get those 2 extra 70ti's mining lol.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Anyone else getting "one more step" captcha pages on Crypto sites? on: December 07, 2017, 08:37:36 PM
Hey everyone... a couple of hours ago I started getting this "one more step" pages when trying to enter most crypto related sites... like this one, coinbase, even mining pool sites. This requires a check of the captcha box to prove you are human before getting to the site's home page.  I am getting those on 2 different PCs but not my work PC, which might be because that is going through a VPN.

Anyway, I am just a bit concerned because this just started showing up so wondering if others are seeing it too.
4  Economy / Exchanges / Cryptopia problems - locked account & no response from support on: November 04, 2017, 08:00:30 PM
Hello,

Was wondering if anyone familiar with the www.cryptopia.co.nz exchange might be able to help with an issue I am having.  A couple of months ago, I opened an account here.  I moved 1 ETH and a bit of other alts here but had not logged in again in probably over 1 month. However, when I tried to log  in 2 days ago, it said my account was locked. I sent a request to their support but did not get any response at all in over 24 hours, so I tried again, this time changing password, but my acct is still locked. I sent another request to their support but now over 50 hours have passed and I have not received even an automated response from them.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? if so, how did you resolve?  I am wondering if maybe their site-based messaging is not working? Does anyone have a direct email address for their support?
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What will happen to my BTC in 3 different places on Aug 1st? on: July 31, 2017, 01:25:27 AM
So, I thought I had a grasp on this hard fork situation but just spent the last 2 hours reading here and elsewhere and now I'm more confused than ever... i think lol!

Here's my situation... I don't have a ton of BTC... essentially about 3 total spread in 3 diff locations... but even with that moderate amount, I am trying to avoid risk and try not to leave any freebies on the table, assuming those 2 don't conflict.

Here is my understanding of each place i hold BTC on, although certainly not sure so any advice would be appreciated:

- 1 BTC on Coinbase - Coinbase has stated that they will not support Bitcoin Cash. So, if I leave my 1 BTC on Coinbase as of Aug 1st, I will still have 1 BTC after the fork there, but will not be "rewarded" any Bitcoin Cash, correct?

- 1 BTC on Bittrex - Bittrex appears to be supportinf Bitcoin Cash, so does this mean that if I keep my 1 BTC on Bittrex as of Aug 1st, I will then have 1 BTC and 1 Bitcoin Cash token after the hard-fork?

- 1 BTC on my Ledger Nano-S USB cold wallet - I am unclear what will happen with this. I see some people recommending moving most of current BTC holdings onto a cold wallet so you can "control" your balances but it is not clear to me what the real benefit of this is.  Is there concern that something's going to go wrong and BTC balances on exchanges could be inaccessible for long periods of time?  Also, if my understanding of Bitcoin cash "rewards" is correct, wouldnt storing  BTC on a cold wallet mean forgoing any such reward?

Thanks for any suggestions!
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Anyone know what is going on with Burstcoin mining last few days? on: March 12, 2017, 12:56:49 AM
So, I noticed a couple days ago that my Burstcoin balance was not increasing for around 3-4 days. In checking it again today, I find that I have not recieved any burstcoing into my online wallet in about 6 days now. before that, was averaging maybe 500-600/day. Now today, I cannot log into the online wallet, nor can I access either the burst-coin.us or burstcoin.biz sites.

Does anyone know what is going on here? Was there an attack on the burstcoin network that has shut everything down or what?  This seems really strange to me so looking for someone who might know what is going on.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Share your settings/results for ETH + Pascal dual mining here on: March 01, 2017, 12:30:27 AM
Hello everyone... with the recent release of Claymore's dual ETH miner v8.0 that now supports Pascal mining, I've been tweaking settings for the past day or so trying to find the best balance for my system.  I thought this would be a good opportunity for people to share their results and settings, as Pascal mining seems to differ vs the other dual options like DCR.

I'm running ETH + PASC on 1 of my 2 mining rigs. Specs are Windows 7 Pro, 4 MSI 470 4GB GPUs (1 onboard and 3 via USB risers - all 4 are strap1500-modded and under-volted),  1000w Rosewill Quark Plat PSU.

My best solo ETH mining settings:  GPUs set to 1125/1975;  Claymore .bat settings at default.  Getting about 110 Mh/s using about 610 watts.

Initial ETH + PASC settings:  GPUs set to 1125/1975 (same as ETH solo);  Claymore .bat settings: ETH intensity at default 8, PASC intensity at 20.  This attempt resulted in a blue-screen & reboot about 1 minute after launching miner.

Attempt #2 ETH + PASC settings:  no change to GPUs 1125/1975;  Claymore settings: ETH at 6, PASC at just 10.  This ran stably for 1-2 hours, getting 111.2 on ETH and 555 Mh/s on PASC... using 670w total system, so about 60w added for PASC @ 10.  % of rejected PASC shares seemed high though at around 9-10%.

#2a- Bumped up PASC intensity to 11, which added about 55 Mh/s but did not really hurt ETH. Added about 5-6 watts.

#2b- Bumped up PASC intensity to 12, which added about another 55 Mh/s and barely lowered ETH h/r. Added about another 5-6 watts and ran stable for about 10-15 minutes but then crashed.

Attempt #3 (currently running stable for close to an hour as of this writing): lowered clock speeds a bit to 1125/1950; ran Claymore again at the 6/10 settings. Getting slightly less h/r of course due to lowered clocks but still getting 110 on ETH and 550 on PASC.

#3a- Bumped PASC up to 11, resulting in expected add of about 50 h/r and 5 watts.  This seems to be running overall more smoothly than attempt 2. Rejected PASC share % is down from 9-10% to about 3-4%.

And, just before I hit post, i get a run of like 8 rejected shares and got temporarily disconnected from pool because of it. although now seems to be running ok again. I will continue trying to add 1 incremental intensity to PASC until things start to get unstable.

Would be very curious to see what others have done with this dual option.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / a few questions about ethminer.org pool on: October 08, 2016, 07:50:37 PM
I have just built a mining rig and looking to start using Claymore's dual ETH & DCR miner.  I have already joined the Suprnova DCR pool and created my worker name to paste into the Claymore .bat file, but am having trouble figuring out how to do the same for the ETH piece.

When I go the ethminer.org, I cannot figure out how to join or register.  Do you even need to do so?  If registration is needed, could someone please provide basic instructions on how to do so?  If it is not needed, then how exactly are you supposed to create the worker name that is needed in the code after the ETH wallet address?

Thanks in advance for any tips!
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Confusing ETH mining results via MinerGate - seem WAY to low on: October 04, 2016, 05:22:10 PM
Hello everyone... I just built a mining rig that will eventually have 4-5 MSI RX 470's running. I currently have 3 hooked up, all mining ETH via MinerGate at an average hash-rate of 19.4 Mh/s each, so a total hash-rate of just over 58 Mh/s.

Over the weekend, I had this rig mining ETH with 1-2 470's and the mined amounts were in-line with what I expected at that hash-rate... overnight running 2 470's yielded in the range of .08-.10 ETH.

However, in the last 10 hours, despite running that whole time at ~58 Mh/s, I have essentially seen no increase in my mined amount of ETH. Last night it was about .26x and now stands at .2653... so not even .01 in 10 hours!  It also seemed slow during the day yesterday but I chalked it up to the fact that my rig was offline of a couple of hours. But, with a 50% increased hash-rate vs the previous night, I expected to be seeing around .13-.14 and it didn't even come close to that.

So, my question is... is this normal for ETH mining?  I have only been mining XMR via CPU the past 4-5 weeks and it provides relatively smooth results. Does ETH have huge peaks and valleys like this?  Or, is this something that is more likely due to using MinerGate?

Any thoughts would be appreciated as at this point, it feels like I am just using electricity for nothing.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Looking for GPU & CPU Hash-rates (for mining XMR & ETH/ETC) on: September 07, 2016, 01:54:15 AM
Hello… I am new to the altcoin scene and am trying to ascertain if I can make a reasonable profit by building a decent GPU rig.  I have been researching components and plan on posting my proposed set-up here in detail before pulling the trigger, as I would like to get opinions from experts before putting down that kind of money.

But, before posting that detailed systems mockup, I wanted to see if there was any way of obtaining hash rate estimates for a handful of GPUs that I have been looking at.  I have found what appears to be a good profitability calculator at coinwarez but I only know 2 of the 3 required pieces (watt usage & electricity rates) and have not been able to find a good source for expected hash rates.

Before listing the GPUs though, I wanted to mention that I plan on using MinerGate… probably on a Windows 10 build… and at least for now, mine primarily Monero & Ether.  I know that there are other alternative miners but I they seem a bit too technical for me to easily use. I have been running MinerGate for over a week just on my 3 PCs and like the easy to use interface.  However, if there is a dramatic difference in productivity, I would be open to considering alternate miners.

CPU:  my current desktop has an old 2nd gen Intel i7-2600k processor. When I mine Monero with 7 or 8 cores on this machine, I usually pull about 115 H/s. Note that this machine does NOT have a qualified GPU in it, so my results are solely from that old processor.  This is right in line with the benchmarks below, but this is obviously a very old list so doesn’t have any of the more recent hardware.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/t_usoLpWsHq7K6-PeYXigCw/htmlview#

When I try to mine Ether on this PC, the results are abysmal… most likely because I believe that mining either at decent rates is much more GPU-dependant than Monero.

I can get Intel processors at ~50% off, so I was originally looking at am i7-6800 for about $220 but then I realized that would require an 1151 socket as opposed to the more common 1150, so I may opt for the i7-5820K for about $180 instead. The benchmarks don’t seem to show significant difference between these 2, so thinking saving $40 here and another $40 on a cheaper MoBo may be the way to go.

So, the question here is, approximately what hash rate could I expect from the i7-5820K (or similar)?

GPUs:  So, I have primarily been looking at are of the RX470 variety…

MSI 8GB @ $240  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137025&ignorebbr=1

Saphire 4GB @ $210  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202229&cm_re=radeon_470-_-14-202-229-_-Product

Gigabyte 4GB @ $200  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125896&cm_re=radeon_470-_-14-125-896-_-Product

These all seem to be similar in specs but seems like the 8GB may provide a bit of extra processing power… not real sure though.  But they all seem to pull 110W.

Can anyone provide estimated hash rates for these for mining both Monero & Ether?  Even if you are not using MinerGate, any actual user data would be helpful at this point.

Finally, I also would consider other GPUs if they have a better power-wattage-price ratio. To that end, I saw these recommended somewhere:

EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 @ $120  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487025#close

These are half the price and half the GB, but will they also only produce approximately half the hash rate?

Any hash rate data for the GPUs I mentioned above (in relation to XMR or ETH/ETC), or any other highly recommended GPUs would be greatly appreciated!  Also, I assume these rates would be scalable… meaning that if a single GPU produces a XMR hash rate of 600 H/s, then 2 would produce 1200 and 3 would produce 1800?

My intention is to get a MoBo that supports 5-6 GPUs, but only buy 2-3 at first to make sure it is profitable once up and running.  If it is, then I would possibly add another 2-3 GPUs to maximize that profit.  I do realize that returns will diminish at some point, but if I cannot easily convert to mining other altcoins at a profit, I will just transform this system into my new main PC and sell the extra GPUs.

Thanks in advance for your replies!
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Need help getting starting buying Altcoin & BTC on: September 02, 2016, 09:56:13 PM
Hello everyone... I apologize in advance as I am sure these noob questions have been asked many times, but I could not find all the answers using the search function of this site.  if there happens to be a noob FAQ or How To somewhere that addresses these questions, I would be happy if someone could direct me to it.

I am very new to the cryptocurrency scene but have been trying to educate myself over the past few weeks or so. I was originally (and still may be) interested in getting into mining altcoins, eventually via GPU rigs... but in the last few days, have become more interested in purchasing altcoins outright.

Til now, I have only mined via the MinerGate web tool. I have 3 PC's dedicated to mining Monero (for about 5 days) and AEON (for 1-2 days) but of course, this is very slow (especially because my desktop apparently does not have a GPU capable of mining)... hence my consideration of eventually building a GPU rig.

Anyway... Let me start with a specific purchasing example to make it easier to explain...

This morning I decided that I wanted to purchase a nominal amount of AEON.  Through a few searches I determined that it was mainly traded on Bittrex.  So, I opened an account there and logged in, but I cannot figure out how to load funds to may account, so that I would be able to purchase AEON coins outright.

So, my first question would be, it Bittrex indeed to only or main place to purchase AEON?  It seemed like 95% of it's volume takes place there, but if there is a better alternative, I would be happy to hear it.

The next question of course would be how do I deposit funds into my account there (or on other exchanges)?

At this point in time, I have no BTC and no altcoin (other than the fraction I have mined through MinerGate). Nor do I have any kind of wallets whatsoever.

Do I have it right that pretty much all Altcoin purchased have to be done with BTC?  If not, what are some reasonable methods used to purchase altcoins?

If indeed I really need to have BTC in order to purchase AEON and other altcoins, what are my best options for purchasing BTC?  I have heard paypal is not great, so what would be recommended?

Then, my final initial (kind of an oxymoron i know lol) question would be about wallets.  It seems like BlockChain.info offers probably the best bitcoin wallet at present, so I plan on opening one later today.  However, I am not clear if there is a need to have multiple wallets if I will be dealing in multiple altcoins.

For instance, let's say I get a bitcoin wallet from Blockchain and figure out how to actually get BTC loaded to it.  From there, how would I proceed to purchase AEON?  Do I also need to open a specific AEON wallet?  Meaning, is a unique wallet required for every unique altcoin that I purchase?  Or, is there either 1 wallet that can handle all BTC and altcoins?  Or, other alternatives to managing this?  It would seem to be crazy if there were unique wallets required for all altcoins, but I am a noob, so...

Anyway, thanks for any direct advice or references to existing resources that address these questions!
