2  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum 3.0 + Ledger Nano S + Segwit = Cannot read xpub error on: November 05, 2017, 05:37:14 PM
Hello Guys,

I just got the portable Electrum 3.0 today and tried to connect my Ledger Nano S to it, using my segwit wallet. I have no problems connecting the legacy wallet to electrum. Problem is when I enter the derivation path for my Segwit Account #1 which is
Code:
m/49'/0'/0'
I get an error stating
Quote
Cannot read xpub from device

Can anyone point me to the right direction on how to fix this problem? I would greatly appreciate it.

6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What are the consumer risks by using bitcoins? [ACADEMIC] on: August 30, 2017, 09:13:35 AM
⚠ LOCAL RULE ⚠: No signature spammers will be tolerated. I will delete spam that will ensue. I have the right to decide which are spam and not. The purpose of this thread is for academic purpose and not for anything else.

I am writing a Legal and Business thesis paper about bitcoin and how it can be used by the public secured by a legal framework. I am stumped on my legal issue for my topic. So I'd like to ask the community for a bit of help.

A little background. In the Philippines there is no regulator framework that guides the use of bitcoins. What we have is just plainly a regulation issued by a government agency that is saying that Digital Currency exchanges should be registered with the Central Bank of the Philippines for purposes of checking for money laundering and anti-terrorist financing. There is no mention about anything that will involve the use of bitcoins in commercial activities.

In my paper, I would like to push for or convince regulators that we could implement bitcoins as something that could replace credit cards, debit cards, money remittances, payments, and all other financial systems. Not really replace though, but probably give the people a clear alternative. However, the legal issue is that since there is no legal framework, in case it will be used for commercial activities the buyer and sellers are not protected as there is no clear procedures to how they can be protected by law.

So that assumptions are,
A. Yes there is no legal framework for bitcoins to be used for commercial activities
B. Yes it must be regulated

My question is,

Since there is no legal framework and it must be regulated, so what?
What are the the consumer risks that poses a problem in the use of bitcoins in commercial activities that the law should address?

It would be better if you have sources to back up your answers. Looking forward to all of your responses. If you guys have any suggestions, feel free to post it.
7  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Google cloud wallet on: August 08, 2017, 10:37:18 PM
So, I wanted to withdraw my BCH from my addresses but I don't want to trust electron-wallet with my private keys, but I also don't have the space on my hard drive nor the bandwidth to download the whole blockchain in case I wanted to use BitcoinABC wallet. What I launch a goggle cloud vps and download the BitcoinABC wallet there. So my question is

1. Will it be safe?
2. What are the risks of this?
3. Is there a possibility that my imported private keys will be stolen?
4. If it is unsafe, can it be secured?
5. Any problems you see that could happen here?
8  Local / Pamilihan / Experience in withdrawing large sums from Coins.ph on: June 05, 2017, 01:11:20 PM
Note: I'd would like to express myself in the English language online however, I do know how to speak Filipino. So please comment as you see fit.

So, I am looking to withdraw about 250,000 Php. Anyone had any experience withdrawing this much with coins.ph? I only have level 2 verification, so I might not be able to withdraw this in one go.

At level 2, I can withdraw as much as 50,000 php a day. Has anyone had an experience withdrawing this much?

Please describe your experience, like:

1. How was it?
2. Was it fast or slow?
3. Bank deposit to your account? Withdraw at security bank ATM? What method did you use?
4. Was there any problems with coins?
5. Did they ask any questions?

I would appreciate all your replies here. Thanks in advance.

We're HIRING!
For the lazy readers; TL;DR
We need someone who,
1. is good at English
2. know cryptocurrency and mining
3. excellent at persuading people who call our phone number to buy our GPU miner!
4. who wants to earn up to $500
5. who reads the whole thing!

Background:
MyTapTech has been hiring various people from this community for their GPU mining business which has blown up to the point where the company cannot take any more customers. We are a registered LTD company in the UK. We build GPU miners for UK customers and we are looking for someone who knows and is familiar with mining/GPU mining along with good knowledge of cryptocurrency technology.

The company builds mining rigs ranging from $1,600 to as much as $5,000 for a single rig. We also build custom made mining rigs depending on what the customers need. MyTapTech builds the miners from scratch, from the building mining casings to assembling the miner to even optimizing it to mine at maximum potential.

Most of our clients will purchase our 2300 miners and we had so many clients we had to turn down some orders since the clients wanted more than five miners and we could not manage the demand. Hence we are looking for this position. We personally talk with our clients, and we honestly advise them not to purchase a large mining setup instead just purchase one or two mining rigs to start off. We could have made more profit from a large mining rig but we genuinely care about our clients and their investments.

This position may be akin to being a receptionist but our skills and knowledge in crypto are rare so you will get calls from potential customers who know nothing off mining. You should be able to explain crypto mining to them and be persuasive and convert calls into sales.

We are based in the UK however, we will accept any applicant outside of the UK as long as you qualify and agree to the requirements below.

Job Scope:
1. You will need to take calls from customers and take inquiries. On average, we get two to three calls every two hours, some calls may reach up to an hour due to inquiries.
2. Must be able to explain GPU mining and why our miners are the best in the UK
3. Attracts potential customers by answering product and service questions; suggesting information about other products and services.
4. Learn and understand our objective. You must be passionate and treat this business like it is your own.
5. Must be able to manage our clients.Calling them back for updates.
6. We build to order, on request so customers must be aware of the waiting period and you should also provide customer ETA by taking in consideration of how many miners we already have right now, stock and so on.
7. Be able to mail invoices, receipts, update each customer.
8. The main skill you need is truly understanding GPU mining and this area of technology.

Qualifications:
1. Must have a phone or a way to be able to be contacted using a virtual number. A UK phone number is preferred but not necessary.
2. Excellent English communication skills
3. Experience in customer service or sales is a plus but not necessary.
4. Confident speaker. Must be comfortable speaking to customers.
5. Great knowledge on Cryptocurrency technology
6. Understand what GPU mining is and must have good knowledge on how to build a GPU miner.
7. Must know how to use Excel.  More skills the better.
8. Must be level-headed under pressure. If a customer is rude to you on the phone, please do not get rude back. We do have impatient clients but our reputation is important.
9. Must be persuasive but should care about the welfare of customers. Do not pressure any clients, we offer free advice, profits isn't everything!   You must be able to know their level of knowledge in this area and be able to talk to them like they are your friends but professionally.
10. Must have Telegram!

Work hours:
9am - 6pm London time

This is a full-time job. Usually there might be calls still coming in beyond 6pm. We encourage you to accept those calls as these are still potential commission income on your part.

Compensation:
Basic Salary: $60/week
Bonus pay: $60/month
Commission: 5% confirmed sale over the phone.

Payment shall be in BTC or you prefer a UK bank account can be arranged.

This position heavily relies on your ability to convert phone call inquiries to sales. From past experience, the company does a minimum of two customers purchases a week and most purchases are $2,500 or more. From commissions, you can potentially earn and additional $150-$400 a week on top of your basic salary.

Additional Information:

Qualified applications shall be required to be interviewed through voice communication.

Please send me a message through telegram, if you are serious about getting this job. It will be contracted so we will require your real name and identification.

We only require 1 person at this moment.

11  Economy / Scam Accusations / Paradice is a scam! on: May 04, 2017, 04:50:06 AM
What happened:
1. Started gambling at paradice.io to try and get the promotion they have. [1]
2. Then I was winning so I was able to withdraw my original 0.01BTC[2] deposit and played with only the winnings of 0.005BTC. I was able to get it to 0.015BTC and withdrew the 0.005BTC[3]. Was also fruastrated that they placed a super low fee of only 32sat/byte, hence this will take a long ass time.
3. Then I continued my autobet and just occasionally checked it. Saw the balance dropped from 0.01BTC to 0.005BTC. I said to myself, ok maybe it was just unlucky.
4. Then I just left it again for another good 30 minutes. Saw the balance was near 0! I said to myself, damn, should have withdrawn it already when I was at 0.01BTC.
5. Just yolobet the remaining balance and won and lost it all resulting to exactly 0. Then played one 500 satoshi yolo bet coming from their faucet and lost.
6. Checked my bet history and saw 4 straight losses and to my surprise, they were actually winning bets! Attached below is proof,

After posting on their thread [4], they changed the results and made it all winning bets but did not return the amount! Now the above bets I got was turned to winning bets because I posted it in their thread and they probably are erasing the evidence now as I am typing this!

Some additional info,

1, 0.1, 0.01, it all doesn't matter. If shit like this happens, then I am not even sure the site is legit. It may have been cheating me or every player without us even noticing! The problem is that how can I even verify that I was not cheated on my rolls before? :/
You can verify the rolls with the clients seed provided ? Or they don't have a provable fair mechanism ? This is a big red flag then.Quite sure they would have a section to verify your rolls with the secret hash. All gambling dice sites do.

Apparently, they don't! I just realize when things went south.
Then I just realize they arbitrarily changed house edge! This happened mid game when I was playing autobet, WITHOUT NOTICE. They did not even care to stop the autobet playing and announcing it in chat at least.

Also it looks like paradice changed their house edge. Before when I was betting at 1.02 multiplier the chances wer at 97.05. Look at it now. chances is only 95.09.

Come on, you guys are doing something here and it doesn't look legit at all.
In opening post you can read that ParaDice is using variable house edge, but they never said how high is that HE.

So are you sure that is not a part of their Variable House Edge system (whatever that is)?

If the House Edge is higher than 1% then there is literally no incentive to use ParaDice anyway.

I checked their house edge, it was 1% when I played. I never play on a casino higher than 1%. That is why when you put on the lowest multiplier (which is 1.02) you should be getting 97.05 chance to win. Which is now different after this incident.

Now, the chances of winning when you set your multiplier to 1.02, the chances are now 95.09 which is different from before when I started playing.

Edit: In retrospect, now that I reviewed the screenshot I posted, I see that they really did chance the house edge mid game when I was playing! I know this personally since I was trying to get their highest chances which was set at 97.05 when I started rolling! Oh come on, that's cheating right there. Without warning they changed it.

Lone Shark... what you need to do is look at your full bet history and import it into a spreadsheet and calculate the total wins and loss amounts with a running total.

Looking at these screenshots, it is impossible for anyone to say what really happened... On your screenshot, the rolls show as losses with a -0.0005. On theirs it shows as a win of +0.00001. What nobody can see, is what actually happened to the balance at this time.

You claim that it "ate your balance"... but we can not see that... and unfortunately, I doubt you can prove it unless you happened to be recording video at the time Sad
They say it was just a "visual bug" and that, while it displayed as a loss on your screen, in the server logs (and now in the new screenshot of your roll history) it shows as a win, so your balance would have been unaffected.

Like I said, dump your ENTIRE roll history... and start creating a running total based on win/loss amounts... you'd need to add/subtract any deposits/withdraws and any faucet claims...

That should at least prove one way or the other whether your account is short by the 0.002 or if in fact it was just a so-called "visual bug"...

I wish I could, but their crappy site is broken AF. When clicking betting history there, the page freezes and I have to refresh it to make it work again. I have consistently asked for a copy of all my bets, which they have not shown. Now, I think they have already doctored everything so I think it won't be reliable anymore.

Just to prove it, my screenshot showed 4 straight losses (which actually won), thinking it was legit at the time, I just yolobet the remaining balance. That is why you'll see some bets after that were broken numbers which were:

1. 0.00030850 which won so it was doubled
2. 0.00061700 which lost
3. 0.00000500 which was a faucet claim which also lost

That shows that I did get a 0 balance.

I've lost more money on other sites, far more than this. I am not here to cheat any system, I don't care if I lose just make sure it was fair. But this gambling site is a cheat. -Must give me the email used to register
-No subscription to aws support
-I don't want to see any charge on billing or any refunds in the account.
-I only need the free 1 year VPS (T2-Micro)
-Let me check first before payment
-Payment may be escrowed but at your expense (come on $5, why would I scam for such a low amount)

13  Economy / Services / Looking for Ragnarok Online developer on: March 23, 2017, 02:16:00 PM
I am in need of a Ragnarok Online developer to just relaunch an old server. I don't own the old server and the original owner just gave all the files to me, so basically I don't have any experience running it so I don't have any info about it though I still have contact with the original owner. Well, if you have experience in doing this, do pm me.

16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Clipboard Hijacking on: February 06, 2017, 07:40:52 AM
Not sure if this is the right post to put this, if not kindly tell me where.

What happened: I was moving some funds from my bitvest investments to another wallet, the first transaction went through and the other one didn't. Thinking that maybe it was just because the network is clogged I just let it be for a while and go about some other things. Then an hour passed and checked the address, it still didn't have the transaction I was waiting for.

Upon checking, what was pasted was some other address which was similar to my target address. Only that the address I accidentally sent it to was identically only with regard to the first three characters. Good thing the amount is just 0.007BTC.

I figured out that my clipboard was being hijacked when I tried copying my address and pasting it on a text file and compared it. The results were shocking as the trojan kept on hijacking my clipboard and changed all address I copied into a new one with address with identical first three characters. I tried this more than 20 times, all were hijacked.

Prior to this incident, I installed shit loads of antivirus for fears of having these kinds of problems. I did a quick trial and error and found out that my Malwarebytes was the cause of the problem. Admittedly, my antiviruses are all cracked (lesson learned). Sadly, the Malwarebytes I got from IpTorrents were infected by a trojan virus that hijacks the clipboard when copying addresses and changes it to something else.

I incorrectly believed that the address I was sending to was to my target address as I only checked the first few characters and got careless and sent it to the address that came from my hijacked clipboard.

Why I am writing this: Well, just to inform and warn the community so that this doesn't affect anyone else. Also, I'd like to know if anyone has a solution to prevent this from happening. Maybe you have a program that prevents the hijacking of clipboards or some antivirus/antimalware that is catered to bitcoin users.

Update 1: Deleted Malwarebytes but the issue persists. So I guess it wasn't malwarebytes or it was part of the problem. Now, I don't know what to do.
