Most of these freebies websites are betting related.

Quite ingenious marketing!

Got any non betting related ones to post?

One out of four is a completely free lottery. The other three are completely free faucets. Not a single one requires any wagering, so your comment confuses me. I am in no way connected with the sites. I'm just trying to build up a current list of faucets for LTC because I couldn't find one on the forum and thought it would be helpful. I have only had a confirmed payout from one site and that is clearly marked in green. I intend to keep the list updated by regularly checking the faucets for payouts. Smiley

Still looking for sites to add to the list. Smiley

Will be keeping an eye out for any new links on here to your new thread! A raffle sounds just as good; but in any case, if the offer still stands..

Thanks and I'll be keeping an eye out for any new updates Smiley

Maybe I should add I will give a bounty for anyone that presents a good and fair raffle idea?

Brainstorm it up peeps.

Make the raffle provably fair, that's important for trust. Maybe base the winner on entry number (order people enter in the thread) and a corresponding number based on the the blockchain hash at a specific future time (close of the raffle). Not quite sure of the formula to use but I'm sure a sytem like this would make it provably fair and cheat proof.

I just added color coding to easily show which faucets are currently paying. These are based on which sites I have received LTC from so far. I will update from red to green if I receive a payout from a faucet. More suggestions of LTC faucets to add to the list would be hugely appreciated. Smiley
225  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BFL only works for mining bitcoins? on: June 03, 2013, 09:44:13 PM
Would you not be able to use BFL asics to mine any SHA256 based altcoin?

Yes you can.  The "application specific" part of BFL's (and other) ASICS is a double SHA-256 hash used by Bitcoin.  Any current or future coin which uses the same hashing algorithm would work fine.  The chip has no idea what Bitcoin is.  It simply is programmed to increment through nonces, and perform a double SHA-256 hash of a blockheader and current nonce.  It does so very fast having a specific purpose.

If (and it is highly unlikely) the hashing algorithm of Bitcoin were ever to change then the ASICs would be unusable for Bitcoin mining because the specific purpose isn't Bitcoin mining it is a double SHA-256 hash.

Thanks for this very informative explanation. Smiley

LTC are scrypt based so ASIC won't work for mining them.

ASIC's that are being produced now won't become obselete overnight, it is the hash rate capabilities that will probably be superseded, but the BTC mining difficulty will have risen significantly by the time your order gets to you (if BFL ever ship it that is).
229  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will ASICs become obsolete? on: June 03, 2013, 03:02:00 PM
what about 5gh/s BFL? I ordered 5 last week....am I stupid?

Depends how quickly you receive it, but as it's from BFL you could be looking at a long wait. I think they are just starting to fulfill orders placed last year.

I got the same thing from Norton today, both from running Bitcoin QT and Litecoin QT.

Network traffic from checkip.dyndns.org matches the signature of a known attack.

I've etablished from this thread that there is no threat, but why is this occuring? I have been running Norton alongside QT for over a month and this only occured for the first time today.
