881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which coins are not scams? on: May 08, 2013, 12:33:01 AM
BitCoin (Legitimate SHA256)
LiteCoin (Legitimate Scrypt)
NameCoin (at least tries to do something completely different than "mine then sell")
882  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGminer All Rejected... on: May 07, 2013, 08:18:58 PM
Hard to say without any information about anything at all other than "cgminer".
If you're mining SHA256 on a Scrypt server, you'll get all rejects. Or expired.
883  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Saving Bitcoin to USB for security purposes. on: May 07, 2013, 11:30:56 AM
Just make a shortcut to the client with the flag -datadir=[client directory].
If you put BitCoin-QT on say.. your E: drive, shortcut would be:
E:\bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe -datadir=E:\bitcoin

To keep your current settings, just cut and paste everything in %appdata%\Roaming\Bitcoin (just type that in the address bar) into the new folder.
884  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have CNC coin and don't want it.. I hear prices are good and will be higher on: May 06, 2013, 07:44:23 AM
Oh, yeah, good deal. 5 LTC is 58x 1 CNC, but sure, sounds legit.
885  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how do I make a 2nd CHN wallet? [solved] on: May 05, 2013, 10:32:35 AM
In the CHNCoin folder, just make a shortcut pointing to  the CHNCoin exe, but add this flag: -datadir=[your CHNCoin folder]
886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Is bter.com legit? Can't withdraw any funds on: May 04, 2013, 08:29:33 PM
I withdrew BTC earlier today. Deposits took a while to get confirmations, but withdrawals were quick for me.

Beautiful.
888  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Another "Which card and Why?" on: May 04, 2013, 06:10:17 AM
6970 and 7870 are similar for BTC (sha256), 6970 has a slight edge (+/- 40 Khash) for LTC (scrypt).
889  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: cgminer, 7950 and scrypt on: May 02, 2013, 10:24:18 AM
Strangely, I get my best hashing done on Intensity 12. Toy around with the intensity levels, even if they seem too low on paper, there's usually a sweet spot.
890  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: GUIMiner Beneficial? Auto Mining Scripts... on: May 02, 2013, 10:18:46 AM
It's best to try a bunch of settings/clients out first. I've seen slightly higher numbers with Reaper, but I could never get it working 100% (connection issues), so I'm using CGMiner by default with a pair of 7850's. You might as well make a dummy plug as you can get a 50 pack of resistors from eBay for $0.99, just in case (for context)

EDIT:
GUIMiner is just a frontend for Reaper/CGMiner, it's not needed, it does help with trying different settings quickly and not resorting to .bat files. I like just using .bat files, but GUIMiner is great for trial and error before nailing down final stable settings in bat format.
891  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Feathercoin guide needed for newbie miners on: May 01, 2013, 11:20:52 AM
I can't see what I'm doing wtrong here - I've successfully mined both BTC and LTC in the past using cgminer, my config is as below.

From my .bat file;

cgminer --scrypt -o http://fhc.ub3rl3[Suspicious link removed]m:9344 -u worker.worker -p xxxxxxxx

What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks,

Mark
Looks alright, should try the Stratum server just in case that's the issue. stratum+tcp://fhc.ub3rl33t .com:3334
If it's not that, would have to be a problem with the worker name/pass
892  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Multiple miners for 1 account on: May 01, 2013, 09:29:24 AM
Everything can be funneled into one worker. Easy way to test: Run CGMiner on one card, another CGMiner on another card. You'll see the sum of both on the single worker.
893  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can someone give me an idiot proof guide to mining Feathercoin?, solo please. on: May 01, 2013, 09:15:17 AM
Easiest way would be the following:

Download CGMiner (or Reaper, I haven't had luck with it, though): http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/
Sign up for a Feathercoin pool and make a "worker" in your account there, there's many pools to choose from... Quick List:
Make a text file with a .bat extension (name whatever you want) in the CGMiner folder. In, put something like this:
Quote
cgminer --scrypt -o PoolAddress -u workerName -p workerPassword
Then just run the .bat file, it should work. You can fine tune it if you'd like.

Example, I'm on the fhc. ub3rl33t .com/ pool, so I'd use this command:
cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://fhc.ub3rl3[Suspicious link removed]m:3334 -u TheSpiral.1 -p x
The URL should be on the pool page itself.

To show how quick certain hardware is.

http://dustcoin.com/mining
To turn that speed into BTC (calculate).

I use workers just to separate computers, no reason not to.

CGMiner and/or Windows may not recognize the device if nothing is plugged into it. Thankfully, you can either put some resistors into the port itself or make a dummy cable yourself (not hard).

Should have an adapter with any video card, and you can get a large amount of resistors from ebay for 99 cents (like I did a week ago).
897  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which alternate coins on: May 01, 2013, 08:35:21 AM
Technically, Scrypt-based coins tend to do better on CPU's (though still not great).

Comparatively:
Phenom II X4 965 gets about 11 MHashes for BTC (SHA256) mining, a 7870 card gets about 400 MHash. In this, the video card gets 36x what the CPU does.

Same thing on Scrypt (LTC and such):
Phenom II X4 965 gets about 25 KHashes for LTC (Scrypt) mining, a 7870 card gets about 385 KHash. In this, the video card gets 15x what the CPU does.

Choosing a coin: http://dustcoin.com/mining  and http://www.coinchoose.com/  both will say if they're either SHA256 or Scrypt.
898  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Noob Getting Started Mining LTC on: May 01, 2013, 08:07:48 AM
Does GUIMiner support Stratum? I believe it is just a frontend to different actual miners. You might need to setup a proxy as per: http://www.wemineltc.com/gettingstarted
Yes, it supports stratum, I've been using GUIMiner-Scrypt for LTC mining, it is just a frontend for miners. If CGMiner supports Stratum (which it does), so does GUIMiner-Scrypt.

I prefer just using CGMiner from command-line, but GUIMiner-Scrypt is great for testing out different flags, options, settings, etc.
899  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Noob Getting Started Mining LTC on: May 01, 2013, 07:57:26 AM
That's the correct URL for WeMineLTC.
stratum+tcp://eu.wemineltc.com:3333   or  stratum+tcp://us.wemineltc.com:80
Both work. Was probably just a timing thing or the servers were down for a second.
900  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Overheating on: May 01, 2013, 07:53:37 AM
Best solution is probably find what keeps it stable, it is different on every computer, depends on the motherboard, the cooling, etc....
I have a mining profile for when I'm sleeping or at work, and I have a different one for when I am using the computer. The only difference is the intensity (-I) value, same as the guy in the second post.

It also depends on if you're using it for Bitcoin (SHA256) mining, or Litecoin (Scrypt) mining to pick which flags.
