Try Kruncha's fix. Also, having a desktop shortcut to guiminer is awesome. Right click guiminer.exe in the extracted folder and "send to desktop".
Thanks for the advice will do.

Right-clicking on the task-bar icon hopefully gives three options - pause, restore and close. Restore should open it up for normal interaction. I'm on Slush's pool, and that option should be in the 'server' drop down box. This will put the relevant info into some of the boxes for you. Fill out your user.worker name e.g. psipower.worker1, and your password for that worker (which you have created in your account with Slush), select the relevant device - presumably your graphics card - and click 'start mining'. You may see it connect to api2.mining, but get transferred automatically to the stratum servers (more efficient, less fees). You can save this configuration using File, save settings. Then if you re-start the program anytime, you just need to click 'start mining'! Then it's time to play around with the other bits and find out what gives you the best rate!!!! I found setting a CPU affinity box improved my rate. You may find this helpful for various flags to improve your rate: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparisonThanks for the help, I will keep the later information in mind after I get it working, but for now, I tried the restore button, and it put the icon on the bottom, but when I clicked the icon, it just disappeared again.

Did not work, but thank you so much for trying!

From what I've heard, it is probably best to get a minimal CPU, and then upgrade your GPU in order to be able to do maximum calculations as the GPU is useless. However, GPU's are dying from what I've heard so it may be better to sell the mother board (which is a beautiful piece of hardware), and use the money to buy ACIS, and maybe you could get more calculations that way.

That's interesting, I may look into it. However, I find it to be a very risky investment, because the price of bitcoins fluctuates so much. Still, its somethign that I will consider doing.

Do you know if it will always confirm that quickly? Because if it will you might as well not include any transaction fees, and just do it that way.

So I am interested in getting started in Bit coin mining as part of a pool (Slush's Pool), just to see how everything works. I want to use my Alienware m14x computer for this (it has a Nvidia 650m 2gb), which I know is not the best, but I just want to see how everything works, and then I can upgrade and such if I think it is worth it. (I'm using Windows)
Anyway, my problem is is that when I open GUI Miner, it shows the little GUI Miner minimzied window at the bottom of my screen, but when I click on it, the it disappears, and I can only see it running in my bottom right taskbar. What do I need to do in order to be able to get the actual window to appear on my screen so that I can start mining? Do I need to have finished downloading all the blocks or something for it to work?
A popular reply I saw out there is change your pbolmc.ini (something similar to that) to a value of 0, however when I search the guiminer folder, I can only find it in the .exe format.
Looking for any help, and thanks ahead!

Wow that stinks, I'm sorry that happened to you, but for a transaction that big, you probably should have taken some more proof. Still, I would contact them to see what going on, and if they got it, because with something that big, it may just have not been approved yet.

Whatever you get, realize that heat will be a big problem, and you need to work on taking care of any heat problems that will arise with the setup. I do not think they make a lot of mother boards like that, if you want a dedicated bit coin set up, why not just by a specific bit coin setup, it is probably cheaper and more efficient, with less of a risk.

I think that it would be something (maybe does not exist yet), that allows people with higher-end laptops to be able to use it... and make a profit. I think bit coins popularity with the average person will begin to die out as they find out that there computers have no hope with competing the terahash/s machines that are starting to be created. With machines like this, I believe bit coin mining will become unenjoyable for the average person.

This is a late reply, but an interesting topic, since there is several people I know in your situation, so I thought this could be useful.
While the idea might be simple, bit coin mining is not that easy to do anymore, and gets harder as the time goes. I personally believe that there is not too much money to be made in bit coins anymore, and soon will not be really worth your time anymore. Instead, I recommend, working and finding the next thing that will be like the bit coin, and work on that, rather than focusing too much on the bit coin.

I think I would consider doing this as bit coins become a lot more popular and powerful. As of now I find them really interesting, but I do not think I want to jump in enough yet to start making purchases in bit coins, or as I heard another company gave the option to its employees, taking my salary in bit coins. If I really wanted the bit coins, I would rather get the cash, and pay for it myself.

I personally don't like the restriction of where people can post and do not think it is the best idea. I have not seen other forums doing this, so I was just wondering why this forum was doing it? I mean isn't the point of a forum to allow people to post wherever they want?

Hello, I do not want to seem 'out of it' or too much like a newb, however I was just wondering what these other currencies were, as I have only heard of bit coins. Looking forward to hearing your guys response!

From what I've heard 110 is quite high for a GPU, however many of these things will have internal things that will shut them off should they get too hot. Mine personally generally stays around 70 and if I'm using it more will go to 95 but I wouldn't worry.

I've started hearing things about coin base having some users get ripped of. I would recommend you do not use Coin base anymore. Work to get your 10 BC back, however, even if you do get them back, move on to another retailer, and use them. If something like that happened to me on my first time, it would not be worth my effort anymore to deal with them, and maybe have to go through that again. Best of luck!

Thanks, this looks very helpful for people who can't have computer access 24-7.
