That's reasonable. When I was first reading it though, I thought it said you need to have your account for 4 hours, not be online for 4 hours.
1002  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much will I make? on: April 27, 2013, 11:32:19 PM
You can see expected hashrate for almost every piece of mining hardware here:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

and put that hashrate into a profitability calculator here:

http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/

It told me $0.20/day. However, the question I have is that when I entered 5000 mh/s (the 5 gh/s some companies are putting up for sale like bfl), it said that it would make $40/day, and bfl is only charging $274, so why can't you buy one of those systems, and make your money back in a week?
1003  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New Company Claims to be Selling Bitcoin Mining ASIC Systems: www.asxproject.com on: April 27, 2013, 11:25:50 PM
Interesting finds. To me personally, it seems to be a scam, so as a result, I won't consider purchasing anything from them until I hear more about them and if they show whether they are legit or not. Great find for the chip one, I didn't recognize that.
1004  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GUIMiner Starting on: April 27, 2013, 10:15:28 PM
You only need the blockchain for solo mining.

I may be able to help more later, but I'm not at home (on my phone)

K.

I appreciate all the help you've been giving me. So then, what do I need to do to get it to start mining?
1005  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Huffington Post looking to Interview Miners on: April 27, 2013, 10:05:07 PM
I'd recommend talking to some start up miners too, maybe some people who have been doing it on simpler graphics cards for a year or so to see how difficult the start up process was for them and how it all worked. Great article though for the first one, looking forward to the  next!
1006  Other / Beginners & Help / How much will I make? on: April 27, 2013, 10:00:17 PM
Hello,
I have a gaming laptop with a Nvidia 650m 2gb graphics card and Intel HD 4000 built into the i7. From what I've heard these are higher end laptop specs for regular usage, but not to good for making money with BitCoins. I plan on mining as part of Slush's Pool, so assuming I do that and its running say 12 hours/day, can anyone give me an estimate from their experience on how much I'll make a day?
1007  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HOWTO: create a 100% secure wallet on: April 27, 2013, 09:57:48 PM
Great advice, this is something that I plan on doing, though maybe not going as far as will because I will most likely have much much less bitcoins on my wallet, and as a result, it is not as much of a necessity. I however disagree with you where you said a backup is useless, because if your harddrive crashes and you only had one copy of your wallet, then a backup will be useful. It may not make your wallet any more secure, but that does not mean it won't be useful.
1008  Other / Beginners & Help / GUIMiner Starting on: April 27, 2013, 09:48:20 PM
Quick Question:

Once I've entered in all of my information for the GUI Miner, I hit start mining and nothing happens. The thing I think is causing this is that I haven't finished downloading all of the blocks yet. Is that the cause, and when I finish downloading all of the blocks, will it start mining, or is it something else I need to look into. I have entered my username & password, chosen my GPU, CPU and all that. If it makes a difference, this is for Slush's pool.
1009  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GUI Miner won't Work on: April 27, 2013, 09:39:10 PM

That's what I meant. I deleted the program, and closed everything, and it still did not work. However, I go to my username on the computer folder, and I don't see any app data/ roaming folder, nor can I access it through command prompt, so what should I do then.

Errm, now I'm lost! If you didn't go to AppData/Roaming/poclbm - what did you delete? Smiley

If you open a command prompt it puts you in C:/Users/YourUsername, so you should be able to do directly:

cd appdata
cd roaming
cd poclbm

and then a 'dir' should list the files, including poclbm.

and a  'del poclbm' command should get rid of it.   (Caveat - it is 'del' in windows isn't it, not 'rm'?)

Addendum: Or as auseeker has jsut posted, show those hidden folders!!!!

Found with the hidden folders. However, I searched poclbm in the start menu, and I found poclbm.exe in there and thats what I deleted.
1010  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GUI Miner won't Work on: April 27, 2013, 09:34:35 PM
Ohhhh i just take for granted everyone has hidden files shown lol

Go to control panel and select "appearance and personalizalition" amd then "folder options" check the box "show all folders" and under the view tab, choose to "show all files/folders and drives". click ok and look for appdata/roaming again. Bet its there now  Wink

Well, I finally got it! Thank you so much for your help, it popped up now:).

I'd also like to thank everyone else who provided me with advice, you guys all responded very promptly with helping me solve my problem.
1011  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GUI Miner won't Work on: April 27, 2013, 08:40:22 PM
Search for file poclbm and delete. In windows, click start and type poclbm into search box. Delete and try running guiminer again  Tongue

note: this will delete any mining info you've saved, so for slush, you'll need stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 and your log-in info. Good luck

I just tried it, it didn't work.

If you are on windows7, the file 'poclbm' is in the directory C:/Users/YourUsernameOnTheComputer/AppData/Roaming/poclbm.

It contains the information saved using 'File, save settings' about your various workers as well as the window position when saved. You can delete the file (thereby losing the saved setups, but also getting rid of any strange window positioning), and this is a safer option that trying to edit the file directly! It's easy to setup the information again for Slush!

Edit: assuming the window appears in a normal position when you restart it!

Note: Use the 'close' option on any gui-miner icons in the righthand tray thingy as you don't want to be restoring the mystery missing instance of the program!

End Edit

That's what I meant. I deleted the program, and closed everything, and it still did not work. However, I go to my username on the computer folder, and I don't see any app data/ roaming folder, nor can I access it through command prompt, so what should I do then.

I would also like to point out, if it helps, that this is something happening over time, because originally it worked, and then after that it did not work, but I could hit the move button, and just now, I can not hit the move button anymore. I am really interested in getting this working, so I would really appreciate your guys help!
1013  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: whats your age? what do you think the avrage age is for people who buy bitcoins? on: April 27, 2013, 08:21:16 PM
I'm *attempting* to get involved (if you want to help me get involved help me solve my problem reply https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=189234.20 here.

But anyway, I want to start things like this and I am really interested in technology related things like this. Neat poll!
1014  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GUI Miner won't Work on: April 27, 2013, 08:18:04 PM
Hi, if still not working, try this:

In the taskbar, left-click once on the folder icon so it gains focus
Now, press "ALT-Space" (you will see a menu appear on the folder)
Press "M" to choose the Move option (your cursor will now turn into four arrow points).
Press any of the cursor keys once (this will move your folder on the screen and it will be captured by the mouse)
Move your mouse about and you will see the folder moving with it
Left-Click to "drop" the folder onto your desktop.

Hope it helps (thanks to pixilated8)

K.

I got to as far as the press any of the cursor keys once (which I assume means press the right or left click keys when the four-arrow thing appears). However, after doing that the folder did not appear, so I don't think it was captured by the mouse?

it means the up,down, left and right on the keyboard.

K.

Thanks. But now the move button is not highlighted anymore:(. Any advice on that?

Just follow the whole instructions from the beginning.

K.

I did follow it from the beginning, but now the move option, or when I hit m, I no longer get the four-pointed cursor. I find that really strange, do you have any idea what could have happened?

"BitshireHathaway" ha ha Smiley What-a-nick ! I love it !

Anyway - I would like to join ASICminers. Any1 knows where to buy shares ?

Off topic but anyway, here is where you can buy it: https://btct.co/security/ASICMINER-PT

A quick google search should give you all the options.
1017  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What one aspect of Bitcoin intrigues/fascinates you the most? on: April 27, 2013, 07:44:54 PM
I feel like if I had to choose the top two things that interest me the most about Bitcoin are they way in which they are mined, and also the founder. I spend sometime every day, just trying to learn about these two things and how interesting they are, and the way in which they work!

delete contents of ../appdata/roaming/poclbm

I could not find that folder on my computer.

Thank you everyone for the overwhelming support and quick replies, I really appreciate it. However, sadly I still have not managed to solve the problem, so I am still looking for more help. I really appreciate you guys taking your time to try and help me get started though, it really means a lot!
