Peercoin.com is owned by a very friendly member of this tribe. You can contact him through his site. Who knows, he might be willing to help us. Ultimately Sunny would need to agree to the website change (and ppcoin.com could just forward to it then).

I think it's a good idea. Sunny doesn't want to change the name officially, but I remember him saying peercoin is acceptable to him.

Do you by chance know who this member is? That sounds like a great solution to make people happy. Peercoin.org would display as the main web address, but ppcoin.org would also still work as a forward.

Sunny, if you happen to read this, would you be ok with doing this?

Edit: Whoops, I misread what you wrote. You said .com and not .org.

backspace backspace backspace

I wanted to say something about those people that only look at names and judge based on how silly some combination of letters sound, instead of the real content... but I backspaced it because I don't want this to start some kind of flameware ..trying to stay positive  Roll Eyes anyway, it is just a name, we should be glad that ppcoin has much more to offer than a cool name

I'd like to not care about the name also, but unfortunately many people make snap judgements based on a superficial understanding of things. If we we don't cater to these people, we have the potential of losing them. Fortunately, peercoin has a couple different names and I can pick which one I like best.

Anyway, let me know if anything needs changing. If there are no suggestions by tonight, I'll be moving forward and putting it on Reddit and maybe making a new thread.

Good work, I will support any initiative that remove the "PP" from the pronounceable form "PPCOIN"

Nobody say BTCoin, So why the F*** are we still carrying that while 99% of people disagree/hate with that pronunciation.
I also don't see how it's technically correct in any ways.

If it's PEER TO PEER COIN (PPC), Why is PPcoin still in the client name ?

I agree and try to avoid pronouncing it like peepee coin. Unfortunately, I checked and it looks like somebody already took the web address for peercoin.com. How did that happen?

Edit: Peercoin.org is taken too. I'd much prefer those names to help get people to stop saying it the other way.

Guys, I'm not sure how many of you have been following the logo design thread over at ppcointalk.org...

http://www.ppcointalk.org/index.php?topic=92.0

...but for those who haven't, we've been talking about using 99designs to finish off the ppcoin logo in the form of a logo design contest. For those who don't know about 99designs, you basically offer a cash reward and a whole bunch of designers will make you what you want. We're going to be shooting for the gold package, which will give us the maximum amount of submissions from the best designers. We can then utilize their poll feature to judge which design is the most popular.

Once this logo is out of the way, we can overhaul the website and finally market peercoin. In order to do this though, we'll need to raise $800, which is the cost of the gold package. I spent all last night researching this. I searched around for a donation site and GoFundMe.com was my favorite, so I created an account and setup a donation page. Please don't share it yet...

http://www.gofundme.com/ppcoinlogodesignfund

Before we advertise this around, you guys need to tell me if you think anything needs to be changed or added, the text description, the title, the money goal. Should I explain what ppcoin is or is it a given? I set the goal for $800, which is what the gold package will cost, but we could set it a little higher if we wanted to. There are ways of promoting your contest which cost extra money, for example $99 extra and they'll send a tweet out about your contest to their 74,000 followers. Here are all the promotion extras...

http://99designs.com/help/how-can-i-get-more-attention-for-my-contest

Let me know if you need to know how much each one costs. They don't give you pricing on this stuff until you're about to checkout.

So basically I need to know if this page is good or if something needs to be changed or added or whether we should increase the goal to add in some of the listed promotion tools. Once the page is finalized, we can then spread it around on forums, Reddit, the BTC-E chat box, etc... until it's filled. Then we can start the design contest. For more information, read the last couple pages of our discussion about it on the logo design thread at ppcointalk.org.

Ok, I need help in my search. Does anyone know any place at all where I can get free graphic design work done for the ppc logo? It seems nobody I know is willing to help me without payment first. The problem is that I don't want to spend a bunch of money on having a logo designed that might not even be used in the end as everything posted here is just a concept until we vote on them. I'm trying to move this forward so we can get the logo and website done so we can start advertising. I'm just having a hard time trying to find somebody that can help.
606  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: May 19, 2013, 07:16:29 PM
I myself can confirm that the website keeps people away from ppcoin. I was very weary of investing in it and almost didn't bother. But I did some more research and realized the website was only temporary, that a small community was building around the coin and that the coin itself had a potentially great future because of the way it was designed.

That website almost kept me away though. It's a much larger problem than people think it is. That's why I think the logo is so important to finish soon. The logo will go on the redesigned website. I wouldn't bother advertising ppcoin until it looks appropriate enough to point people to it. Advertising it now is just a waste of time because people are going to look up the website for more information and then lose interest. We need to finish this logo design so we can finish the website and then it would actually be worth our time to advertise.

Is there an agreed upon logo for the coin?

Not yet. I think people are taking a break from it for the moment. I'm no expert in Photoshop or I would whip up something right now. As I said on ppcointalk, I really want to see a designer merge the following three coins...

Photo A:

Photo B:

Photo C:

I believe the overall design of Photo A is a winner, minus the date on the coin. The only other problem I see with it is the color. It looks more bronze to me than gold. On the other hand, D3tail's designer made photos B and C, which I believe are the perfect colors for gold and silver, plus the reflection and sparkle of the coins. What I want to see a designer make is two face down versions (No angle shots unless it's in addition to face down shots) of coin A, minus the date. The first version will use the gold color from coin B and the second version will use the silver color from coin C. I think the silver version would be our perfect ppc coin. The silver and green just go together better in my opinion. I'd ask D3tail's designer to help us, but she's busy traveling. I've tried to get other designers I know to help me with this, but everyone seems to be too busy. All I can do is wait for now.

Nice, I guess next it's up to Sunny to vouch for it.

He's already posted there in the sticky in General Discussion.

Here is the green one with the text on the coin...

And I was playing around with Paint and made this. It's the same coin with a carbon fiber background. It's not a serious submission. I thought it was funny, so I posted it.

610  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: May 15, 2013, 03:18:37 AM
As I said in the other forum, I'm divided on these new ones. I know I don't like the blue one. The all gold one looks too plain. For me, currently it's between the one with the leaf and the one with the green background. I think I might still be leaning in the direction of the leaf.

What would the one with the green background look like with the text around the outside of the coin? It looks a little plain because that's missing.
611  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: May 15, 2013, 01:22:52 AM
Yeah, I'm with Irishmick on this one. I will use ppcointalk, but we need to keep this thread open because it's our main connection to the Bitcoin community. We're not strong enough yet to completely separate ourselves from this forum. This thread acts as an advertisement for ppcoin.

I would make the suggestion to Sunny to add a link to the first post of this thread to ppcointalk.org, that way we can also use this thread as an advertisement for the new forum. He should also probably link to it from the main website, rather than bitcointalk's alt-coin forum. This will help to build up the community.

I will try and make a few adjustments, I'm not really sold on the coin shading on this one to be honest

Do you mean the way the light reflects off of the coin? I agree with that. I think it could be improved somehow, but I love the general design of the coin.
613  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: May 14, 2013, 06:06:29 AM
Here is the post I made over at ppcointalk.org. It has some critiques.

- I agree and disagree with some of the things Excelsior said. I think you should probably lose the date. Since we don't have physical coins that were created on a certain date, it doesn't really make sense to include it.

- I'm glad you spelled out peer to peer. I have the feeling that people get confused as to the meaning of pp and this would help clear up any confusion.

- It is pretty hard to read cryptocoin. Maybe you could darken it up a bit.

- I'd like to see the PP in the middle a more golden color as well. I'm not sure what it would look like though, so I'm just wondering. Also, I really believe we should drop the logo design that looks like IP. I think it's just going to confuse people. We don't need people going around saying they bought some IP coin.

- PPCOIN under the logo is much too large. I would think about making it smaller such as the gray text in this link (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/Sentinelrv/Other-Images/ppcoinweb8.png), except dark green like what you have currently. Maybe just minimize that logo.

- I very much disagree that we should remove the leaf design from the coin. The leaf is what conveys that the coin is eco-friendly. This is very important in separating ppcoin from the competition. I also disagree that we should make the coin completely golden for several reasons. First of all, cryptocoins aren't physical, so they're not completely made out of copper or other metals. This is the only reason physical coins are one color and the same rule need not apply to cyptocoins. The main reason though is that without the green, I most likely wouldn't be able to tell that it was a leaf. It would just look like some random background design. It also helps break up the coin and makes it stand out. So please, keep the leaf to maintain ppcoin's eco-friendliness and the green color.

Ok, I'm back home from work and I whipped that alteration up real quick. I'm glad we're not rushing this or we wouldn't have gotten to some of these later designs. They're amazing!

615  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: May 14, 2013, 03:36:31 AM
Is it possible to see what that looks like with the top and middle connected? I'm at work so I can't do it at the moment. Not only does this look awesome, it states peer to peer right on the coin to clear up any confusion.

I'm bullish PPC Smiley

I am too. Not sure what this means, but I compared the subreddits for ppcoin and namecoin and within the last 2 days, namecoin has gained 7 subscribers where ppcoin has gained 61. That's a huge gain in such a short amount of time. If this keeps up we'll pass namecoin in subscribers by the end of the week.

By the way, is this website legit? Does Sunny post there or is this thread the home of ppc discussion?

I did another update to my concept art. I made the text smaller and put it under the icons instead of on top. I also brought the icons closer together...

I edited my post above to include a little bit more detail on the why I chose to change or remove certain things.

I like your reasoning and its beginning to look very solid, lets hope Sunny comes along and does too Smiley Great work

I noticed he did mention our work here in his weekly update...

"The graphics team continues to put out great designs! I noticed that Arstechnica even included Mjbmonetarymetals's earlier designs for a redub of Wired UK article on altcoins."

It would be nice to hear his opinion on what we've done so far though. Maybe he'd like different links than the ones provided in the concept art, or at least additional ones.
