I would suggest both options. Invest in altcoins which are already in the top 100 and participate in good bounties like signature campaign or translations. Take the chance!

Yes, I always take some time to read the whitepaper of interesting projects. That is very important before investing or it will be risky. The whitepaper helps you to decide if you believe on that project or not. There are all important things and details described.

I think the project (Modum, Ambrosus etc.) with the most real-world use case and well-known partnerships can gain high profits. The earlier you invest in that altcoin the more you will earn.

Hodling of altcoins should not be dangerous if you invest in the right coins. If you choose projects with a real use-case, a solid roadmap/white paper, an
excellent team and big community that will be not a high risk. Shitcoins = dangerous !

It is just the beginning of cryptocurrencies and high potential projects with real-world use cases will definitely grow.
But many projects are overvalued and many of those 1500 cryptocurrencies are only shitcoins that won't survive and will go to zero.

I have read that many persons bought at ATH mostly in the middle of december 2017. Now they regret because of investing in cryptocurrencies.
