Has anyone ever seen this error before? Just put in 3x7970s into a machine, cgminer works fine for btc but when I try to run --scrypt it gives me [2013-04-29 14:42:27] GPU 0 failure, disabling!

Are you using the same copy of CGMiner that was on there when you were running the 5xxx series. If so delete the folder and get a new copy so it can remake files for you. Well I thought you might be on to something, as I was using cgminer 2.11.4, so I downloaded cgminer 3.1.0 and tried running that, but got the same error when I tried to run scrypt  I'm not sure, but I think he was talking about deleting your .bin files. I installed a completely different version in a different folder, would that be accessing the old .bin files somehow? |

Well you can buy panels on your own, inverters on your own, and batteries on your own, what more are you expecting from a kit? The rest is the DIY, of installing it, not much more to be said for that? I like... 2 big panels sell unused back auto source change on demand HUGE Royal batteries ? use it to store charge?? dont like.. fuel generator .. you mean the kind that if you and all your neighbors ran one nobody would get any sleep? That kind? Ive been considering a move on solar but .. only in my head. lol I keep hearing "researchers making ground breaking improvements" on solar panels but pricing schemes seem like they just went from "buy my panel" to "lease my panel" Of course no diy install packages. When are we gonna get something where we can install panels and add inverter and batteries that hold charge and press go. Maybe replace "press go" with attach miner!  |

Well I've no experience with that particular board, but if it is indeed a molex port designed to feed pci e then it should help yes. The manufacturer site is very unclear about what it is exactly though, so definitely be cautious (feel your cables for signs of heating)

Should really pay the extra like $3 to join a second crate to space those things out. Cards jammed together vs cards with a little space is a surprisingly large temperature delta. Save you from blowing hot ass air down onto your mobo too. ($10 box fan would move more air in a preferable direction.) |

One card definitely doesn't need 300W, that's just ridiculous. How much it WILL use depends on whether you're mining bitcoins, litecoins, or whatever. How much you overclock the sucker, whether you have a good group of asics (power leakage), etc.
On average plan for that they will likely consume 200W +- 25W.

That doesn't make terribly much sense, none of the lanes are listed as "shared" in the documentation, nor is the buffer being overloaded (hence why you can run an x16 card off an x1 lane). As I mentioned, you might want to check the power, perhaps trying a powered riser cable, in case your mobo cannot handle 5x75W through the lanes.

Thanks for bumping this thread, an entertaining read in retrospect, as we are sitting at 8.9Mil difficulty today, BFL has not shipped yet (at least much of import), and price is quite interestingly different from the original posts time.

850Watts measured where? From the wall? Then it is only delivering ~765Watts to the system, well under its designed full load.
If it is rated to run 850Watts continuous, it can do 850watts continuous, although it might not last as long as it would under softer conditions, it should still run for years.

You can mine BTC on various platforms, I was running a 7970 with 2 5870s and a 5850, and a 7950 with a 5870, no problem. HOwever scrypt mining did not like it one bit, when 5xxx was mixed with 7xxx it would not run properly, when I swapped 5xxx only and 7xxx only, it ran fine. This was under cgminer and reaper I did not try BFGMiner.

the 80 plus rating has no effect on how much power the PSU delivers to the GPUs.
You would probably be fine with a 750W depending on your overclocks, if you run hard you might look into an 850W.

I'm currently testing a 5 cards setup without any luck. The 5th card is not working. Windows shows "Code 43". Is it possible to run 5 cards at once?
Yes, many people are running 5 cards at once. Check that you have enough power, and whatnot. |

Lower is always better, sadly with the reference blower cooler, you will need to choose between higher temps or higher fan speeds.
I don't recommend these as your primary GPU, I've had 2 so far, and both have artifacted under high stress. If you have good airflow and reasonable ambient, I'd say 50% fan speed and 77C is reasonable, for longevity of both. You can go higher, but as I said they seem fragile, and there's not enough long term data to really know what will happen.

Not sure if I missed it, have you determined the maintenance fee, and disclosed the power cost in your area?
You say a "condo unit" costs ~11.47 BTC estimated, so the equivalent cost to build an Avalon sized condo would be 274BTC? Am I correct or reading that wrong?

This is a good board, though you will not find it for $100, and if you are using 6 cards, you better use powered risers.

The two boards are essentially the same, I don't know enough to say what is diff between the D3 and DS3, but it is very unlikely to be something that significantly impacts mining.
