201  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Which one of these mobos is best to run 5 7970s? on: April 28, 2013, 06:15:06 PM
Might want to include which 2 mobos you're talking about
202  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 4x 7850 vs 2x 7950 differences (all sapphire standard dual cooler series) on: April 28, 2013, 03:52:36 AM
If 66C is hot for your taste, then expect to get low performance out of high end cards. You should never touch a loaded VRM heatsink, they're typically going to be like 30C higher.

Sounds like you want to baby your cards, so yeah, return the sapphires (they run hot and loud) and grab some more 7850s. If you really want to baby a card, you might give the 7790 a look, supposedly does ~240MH/sec, costs ~$140, and can run at about 80W / card. Aw yeah.

203  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: CPU requirements for GPU Mining on: April 28, 2013, 03:47:49 AM
I have a 7970, 2x5870s and a 5850 running on an AMD sempron 140 (google it), and cgminer is using between 3 and 6% CPU, while I am mining about 1.75GH/sec.

Litecoin can supposedly be a bit more of a memory hog, but afaik still doesn't rely on CPU much at all.

If you are getting banged for 50 - 100% CPU usage, you might consider switching mining clients.
204  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Question about PCI risers and question about running 2 PSUs. on: April 27, 2013, 10:34:22 PM
You do not need to splice any PCIe extender cables.  Ever.  Under no circumstances.
If you were to plug your GPU directly onto the motherboard, is there any place for an added molex power connector?  No.
If you are only extending the PCIe connectors with extender cables, then you never need to cut, splice or add any molex non since.
Never.

The paperclip trick for the PSU works great.  That's what I do, even in my little youtube video.
And yes I use uncut PCI extenders too.

You do realize that the PCIE slots themselves deliver up 75W of power to GPUs through the mobo, yes? Hence the reason for a molex bypass (I'm not sure but I do not believe that the 1x->16x is capable of delivering 75W).
205  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: I am looking seriously to build an affordable rig based on Avalon chips on: April 27, 2013, 08:39:02 PM
Honestly pre-orders are not viable at this stage of the game. I don't know what difficulty will be in october, and I don't want to say that it WILL be anything, but it seriously looks to be going up and up. There is little incentive for me to give all the risk on something that looks very unpromising.

New ASIC ventures need to take risk on themselves IMHO. Or at least split the risk, such as the burnin allten projects, where people buy the chips themselves (taking risk) but offering the service to put chips into something to make them go that will be READY TO GO at time of payment.

That's my opinion, for whatever it is worth.
206  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: So many ASIC's Miner join, GPU mining will die on: April 27, 2013, 08:33:18 PM
you do realize that for people with free electricity, gpu mining will always be profitable, right?

Electricity is never free, there is always a cost somewhere to someone. And the more difficulty rises the less profit you make from puny GPUs, making that cost less bearable at whatever point it comes in from.
207  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Question about PCI risers and question about running 2 PSUs. on: April 27, 2013, 08:28:38 PM
For PCIE it all depends on how many you are using and on what cards. If you are using 3+ PCIE risers on power hungry cards, then you will need to splice cables to allow for molex connection (or buy pre-spliced 'powered' molex connectors). If you are planning on needing 2 PSUs, then I would imagine that you will probably need powered risers.

208  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: End of GPU celebration, DataCenter or no? on: April 27, 2013, 04:28:46 PM
I love how these threads turn into for-sale. Vultures!

I'm actually in contact with a couple people for space, if I can't find anything reasonable in the next week or so I may sell, but I would do it in the For sale forum. I'm not looking to unload "cheap" as I'm lazy and it's not worth my while though.

On another note, does anyone have experience with Evaporative cooling? A couple of places do not have built in AC, and I don't want to buy, install, and/or run an AC unit, and this seems like an inexpensive solution for when I'm not around to ventilate the space. But how much do these really raise humidity? If I were gone for 8-12 hours, would a space get humid enough to cause condensation?
209  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling Negro for BTC on: April 27, 2013, 07:23:11 AM
Ladies and gentlemen, I'm happy to announce that I'm back into business! The new price for 200g of Negro is 0.1 BTC! Please check the OP for details!

Originally, I set the price in 1 BTC back in August and was selling some candies until the end of 2012. But my life has changed so (for the worse Sad) that I didn't have time, energy, and motivation to care for selling more candies... But now, I gained some time and I hope my life is changing for the better, and I'm back here to sell more candies!

Moreover, because of to the glorious boom of Bitcoin we're all celebrating, the original 1 BTC price would be waaaaaay too much expensive for 200g of candies; I "reduced" the price to 0.1 BTC. Wink

Hoping to get some new customers soon! Smiley

Is the OP updated with your stock? A little confused.

I send you 200g of Negro candies for 0.1 BTC.

Currently, I have the following bags on stock:
Classic: 1 x 100g

So you only have 100g of classic in stock? Meaning we have to get classic + one of the "rip off" flavors?

And I know this is probably a lost cause for my purposes, but what are the estimated shipping times to someone in the US?
210  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: FrozenCPU looking to start selling ATI cards for miners. on: April 27, 2013, 06:56:56 AM
Hi all!

I work over at FrozenCPU.com. I was asking the boss if he would be interested in getting some cards for miners because I have gotten alot of email requests for watercooling those cards for mining.

There was no mention that he would be "watercooling them", just that there was a request for watercooling. His interest as stated, was, "I was asking the boss if he would be interested in getting some cards for miners".

The "because" is redundant and useless banter... "because I have gotten alot of email requests for watercooling those cards for mining."

But I digress...

I'll take the XTX cards you are having "difficulties with"... They all work fine for me.

Not to be a jerk, but what the hell are you talking about?

Quote
We would like to know if you would like the service of getting a 7950/7970 with a waterblock already installed ready to go?

FrozenCPU specializes in PC mod parts, specifically cooling, and in large part watercooling. They are not a GPU wholesaler, as I've heard the margins are fairly thin on such things, and I imagine it is implied that they would be "getting some cards" new or wholesale, and dropping WC setups on to them for miners.

I wouldn't have brought it up, but your arrogant tone in this thread is rather grating.
211  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: End of GPU celebration, DataCenter or no? on: April 27, 2013, 06:21:26 AM
Well I have a bunch of GPUs laying around that I can't really use due to heat, breaker limitation, and electricity cost. To celebrate the final months of GPU mining, I'd kind of like to go nuts until ASICs jack everything to the moon, and burn through all my rigs and gpus in a final burst of hashing glory, and to do that I'd either need to rent like some office space (hard to find, expensive) or rent some datacenter space.

I've never done datacenter hosting, and my rigs are certainly not in any specific XU (1u, 2u, etc) format, so would this just be unfeasible if I'm not set up to maximize space? Any tips from people who have worked in/with datacenters before would be appreciated, even if it's just to lemme know that it's a retarded idea (if you explain why).

Send one to me! Or, more seriously, sell them. Don't waste them.

I've had them since 2011, sitting idle. I haven't sold them because quite frankly I find it a hassle to negotiate a price for each card with each person (getting lowballed constantly), then finally when a deal is struck, packaging each card individually and shipping it off. I'd probably do it if someone took a bulk of the cards in one go, but otherwise it's really a lot of trouble, and they all paid themselves off long long ago. I'm a bad trader because I don't like it heh.

What you got to keep in mind, is that datacenter space, costs money. 5 to 10 kW is most likely going to be 2 racks + power = 400 + 400 + 95 + 95 = 990 + network (50 as you don't need much) = 1040 a month that would cost you. You might be able to go a bit cheaper, but this is the minimum what you need to be able to generate to make it affordable. Doesn't really matter whether it is euro or dollar, DC prices are about the same.

You don't have to convert your PC's, just go look for things like this: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-19-Inch-175lbs-Adjustable-Cabinet/dp/B008X3JIQI/ref=sr_1_cc_3?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1366966895&sr=1-3-catcorr&keywords=19-inch+rack+shelf

Couple of those and you'll be able to just stack pc's, or organise them in any other way you want.

Something to keep in mind is that you don't want a hot / cold corridor DC when using Desktop PC's.

Lots of good info there, thanks friend. A shame it seems like I can either find cheap space, or cheap power but not both Tongue
212  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Now available: Lancelot (Heavy Duty 2 x FPGA Mining Board) on: April 26, 2013, 08:45:57 AM
Note: We have updated the power supply policy in order to save on the shipping costs. All orders placed until now will receive 1 power supply for each lancelot, as promised.

Quote
Update: A 10 Amperes power supply can power 4 devices. As you do not need 1 power supply for each device, we no longer include 1 power supply for each device so we can save on the shipping costs.  Please order the power supply separately.

Which update is the latest update? You will give a power supply for each lancelot or you need to order a power supply or every 4 lancelots?
Can it be connected to a standard PSU via molex, if one wants to forego buying a $20 power brick?

This product is currently out of stock; We will ship around 8/05/2013 but might ship sooner. Please place your order but do not pay! We will send you an email when they are in stock.

Lol, Those ship in august.

I don't think I'm going to need an FPGA in August.

That's April in the calendar the rest of the world uses.

Maybe in some countries, but in most countries that would actually be May.
214  Economy / Goods / Re: Solar panel systems for BTC / LTC --- interest levels? on: April 26, 2013, 08:15:27 AM
I'm not interested as I'm both not in Au, nor do I own a house, BUT I'm a big supporter of the idea. Especially AU needs to get on it, sunny ass country, with super low population density, high areas of land with little to no cover, etc. A solar country if there ever should be one.

Come on ozzies, you know you want it!
215  Economy / Goods / Re: almost free electricity ($0.01 per KWh) ALMOST FREE! on: April 26, 2013, 08:10:45 AM
Industrial rates in Denver are half a penny if you consume 25,000 watts at all times.  The electric company burns alot of coal.

Terrible policy, subsidizing excessive power use. Admittedly in this case, we all like it, but it is still a horrible policy in general.

In other news, that is pretty sweet concept, I'm not sure that I will have a use for it in September, but if I am able to still be involved in mining come that time, I would definitely be attracted to that project (Colorado is not that far from Cali relatively speaking, and our power prices are like 15x higher).

And I don't really care about the other stuff, as long as some potheads don't think it's funny one night to go blowing smoke into my unit and a buncha water fries my stuff.
216  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Post if your GPUs still profitable to operate? on: April 26, 2013, 06:23:22 AM
Not to nitpick OP, but what do you consider good electric rates? If your elec bill is $200 / mo, and you're generating .07BTC/day, that's approx 1200MH/sec, and 1818.18... kWh per month @ $0.11 / kWh, or about 2525W of power 24/7, which seems high to me. Unless you're saying you have some big azz house and you're paying for all the other uses too from 2 7970s, which sounds nice, but isn't a fair comparison of "profitable" as your mining rig is probably only using ~475W of the 2525W you're calculating against.
217  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: End of GPU celebration, DataCenter or no? on: April 26, 2013, 06:18:03 AM
Probably a really bad idea because you'd have to convert everything to rack mount machines, pay to send them out there and to be installed, pay for them to run there, etc.  If you can find a run down office space, you are probably better off.  All the costs would nickel and dime your profits to death.

Such was my worry. Finding space is annoyingly difficult. Explaining that I want a small cheap space, with 24/7 A/C and like 5-10kW of power usually leaves most potential renters suddenly "without any space to rent" Sad
218  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: which one is better, PPS, PPLNS and RBPPS? on: April 26, 2013, 04:30:44 AM
Best for whom and under what situation?
PPS is best for miners, worst for pool owner, guaranteed payout for work, assuming no fee. With fee? Depends how much you're getting eaten into.
PPLNS is pretty good for miners and owners, still can't be hopped, but uses a rolling window to calculate payouts based on found blocks, reducing risk to pool-owner but still paying miners for their found shares.
Round-Based PPS is sort of in between, you get paid per share, but only when blocks are found, reducing operator risk. Seems like the lazy mans way to try to avoid risk/hopping, as it's easier to implement.

Typically for a miner you only care about what you're getting cut into for fees (as long as it's not hoppable).

Just a question about the status of cables

Item title: PCIe x16 Extender Cable w/ Molex Connector (Back-Ordered)
Availability: In Stock

Is it back ordered or in stock?
