61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: gtx 1060 3GB vs gtx 1060 6GB on: January 16, 2018, 07:34:50 PM

whattomine.com uses 22.5 mh/s for ethash per card as default (most 3gb cards coming in now are Hynix which doesn't do more than 20 when pushed to the moon). When you use 24 hours calculation the top 5 coins are all equihash. Switch over to 7 days (more accurate) and ETH falls to 7th place.

Also there are coins not mentioned on whattomine.com which in itself is a rough estimate at best.

You have a point, Hynix is not good for ETH but I have only GPUs with Samsung memory. If I take an average on 7 days, ETH comes first and PIRL comes second so it's more or less the same as the daily estimate. It's been like this for months. Like you said, it's only an estimation but at the end of the day, what I get in my wallet is quite close and even higher sometimes.

There may be other coins that are not listed on whattomine but I don't know them so it's difficult to say which one is best.

Which other coin should be performing better on a GTX 1060 ? I could try it to see if it's better than ETH.
62  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: gtx 1060 3GB vs gtx 1060 6GB on: January 16, 2018, 07:17:20 PM
My argument with why I was going with the 3GB 1060's was that the ETH code is already in testing for PoS. Its estimated that by Nov 2018, the DAG size will be 3GB+ and these cards would no longer work by then. My opinion (and thats all it is), is that PoS will be will be out by then and it won't matter.

Either way, I'm doing NeoScrypt.

There will be a hybrid phase where POS will verify POW from miners (orphan blocks etc).
Its not like POW will stop as soon as POS kicks in. But I do agree 1060s are better served on other algos than ethash.

if you look purely at current profit, ETH is still among the most profitable coins for this type of card. It's usually a struggle between ETH, PIRL and ZCL. Today it's ETH. GTX 1060 may be less interesting for ETH than a RX type of card but it's still a good performer. With my rig today, PIRL comes first with 41.94$ then comes ETH with 41.32$, then ELLA above 39$ and then all other coins around 33$ and below. I know the theory says that ETH is not the best coin to mine but in my case it's best one of the best for a while. By the way, I simply use whattomine.com.

I have only 3Gb model and performance is really fine. Some of them are single fan but by using a power limit, temperature remains comfortably below 55°C, some are around 45°.
64  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASUS B250 Mining Expert MB - 19 Cards! on: January 16, 2018, 05:00:58 PM
I have 13 GPU on my Asrock and I'm using only powered risers but I had to connect 2 molex + 24pin to the motherboard otherwise it wouldn't start. I had an error message saying that the motherboard was not sufficiently powered.

The PSU I'm using for my currenct motherboard has only one 24 pin connector while the B250 has three. If I have to use those three together, I'll need to buy another PSU, I'd like to avoid that if it's not necessary.

thanks!

I'm having a hard time finding a shop in Europe where this motherboard is available. Have you got some links?

I was also wondering if the motherboard had to be powered by ALL 24 pin connectors or if 3 molex + 1x 24 pin is enough?
66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is the mining of Ethereum profitable? on: January 13, 2018, 07:37:03 PM
I think that in the future the ethereum will switch to a new protocol of work, which excludes mining. If this happens, the owners of equipment for mining will be very unhappy.

No, everyone will just switch to another currency. Nvidia people will go to NeoScrypt coins and Equihash (Zcash) amd AMD guys (RX cards) will jump ship to other Ethash coins.

Nvidia users will have MUCH more flexibility when it comes to mining other coins whereas AMD RX users are more of a one trick pony for Ethash. AMD RX cards can mine other crpyto, but not nearly as good as Nvidia cards.

Thats why ive got Nvidia only, more efficient, better resale and most important, better flexibility.

I bought nvidia for the same reason but I would simply add that nvidia is good for most of the coins, it's only that RX cards are a bit better for some coin. You can make decent money with Nvidia on Ethash.
67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best Speculative Coins to mine with GPU Rigs for 2018 on: January 13, 2018, 07:35:04 PM
u know if u are mining 250 electreum per day why don't u mine zclassic now which is about 65-70$ a day depending and then change it to electreum at the moment of this post is 19cent each will give u about maybe 340 90 more, a day isnt that a better way? mine what's profitabe per day and then change it to a coin u believe in

What would be the best algo and pool to mine zclassic on with an nvidia rig for maximum steady income?

I use ZECminer (equihash) and miningspeed.com, it goes around 50$/day with my setup but ZCL is an annoying coin because before you can transfer it, you need to sync with the blockchain, it took me some time to finally access my coins.

If you use risers that have the USB cable come straight out, clearance is not an issue at all.
Right-angle risers you have to use in the "closest to the power connection" slots if you are going to use more than one riser per row. or you get cable interference that can make reliable seating of the riser "interface board" problematic.

There should be no performance difference between the slots - try swapping your risers around to see if the issue follows the board.
I've had issues where a "performance difference" turned out to be a marginal USB cable, and just replacing the cable with a better cable CURED the issue.

I have risers that go straight out so that should not be an issue, thanks.

there should indeed be no performance difference between slots but the reality is that I do have differences. I contacted Asrock and they suggested to return the motherboard. I have tried the low performing slots with other gpu, risers, cables, ... same result. I have some well performing ones so it was easy to test the same hardware on the faulty pcie slots. Strange but now it will cost me more money waiting for a new motherboard rather than buying a new one (I make more than 50$/day with my rig so anything above 4 days waiting is wasting money)
69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASUS B250 Mining Expert MB - 19 Cards! on: January 12, 2018, 05:16:26 PM
is there any place you know where this motherboard is available now ? I've been checking on all major shops and they're all out of stock. This Asus model is really attractive, it gives much more space to the pcie slots, with my current mb it's really difficult to put all risers next to each other due to the lack of space.

For those who already have it, do you measure performance differences between the different slots available? I have a 13 pcie motherboard and I have 3 underperforming slots.
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Whats a good motherboard to start with? on: January 12, 2018, 05:02:05 PM
Another option might be to take a motherboard that support PCIe bifurcation, you would then be able to plug more than 1 GPU on one slot. I checked if my Asrock could do that but it can't, there other smaller models from Asrock that can.

With this type of hardware: PCIe to 8 PCIe you could potentially do some crazy stuff Smiley

it all depends on how much you have to pay for the GPUs, I think that a GTX 1060 under 200€ is unbeatable. That's 24MH/s for 200€, that's "only" 8.33€ per MH/s. With a 1080, you will pay at least twice that price if you're lucky and you won't get twice more hash power.
72  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Whats a good motherboard to start with? on: January 10, 2018, 03:35:29 PM
If you want to evolve, you should also add the H110 pro btc from Asrock with 13 pci slots. I'm using this one and price has seriously gone down which makes it more attractive than 6 months ago.

thats a thought.  My goal was going to be around 6 cards per rig.  I wanted to space the cards out for heat issues.  if I tried to squeeze more cards in I figured they would get to hot being so close together

you can avoid this by putting your cards further away from your motherboard. Mines are in vertical position around the motherboard, keeps them "fresher" without blocking the access to my motherboard. If you intend to grow your rig, a 13 GPU motherboard will be cheaper than buy all the hardware twice. Of course you put more dependency on one set of hardware.

For the same reason, I'm now tempted to buy a 19 GPU motherboard instead of building a second rig.

74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining with Nicehash the best? on: January 10, 2018, 01:44:05 PM
I also started with Nicehash because it was easy but I change my mind because:
- they take a big fee
- you are only rewarded in bitcoin while today it's not the fastest growing coin anymore

If you want to earn more, you'll have to switch coins by yourself and have dedicated settings (wallet, pool,...) for each coin you want to mine.
75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX 1060 discussion thread on: January 09, 2018, 10:12:55 PM
Hi

I've just joined the forums as I have just got a Gigabyte 1060 windforce to add to my MSI gtx 970 and I'm not exactly impressed.  I'm using my PC as I've just started mining in the last few weeks.  I'm just testing at the moment, hashrates seem ok but it's the temps and more worryingly I think the voltages that I'm not happy with.  If i'm mining anything on equihash it goes up to about 70 degrees and the fan noise is pretty loud, I have a custom fan curve in afterburner 70% at that temp.  I've just tried mining electroneum as a test which my gtx 970 doesn't go above 40.  The 1060 is at 56 but worringly it's at it's performance limit for power, thermal and reliability voltage according to hwinfo64.   GPU-Z seems to be saying the same thing, it says under perfcap reason m vRel Vop.  The 970 just says PWR so obviously it's having no issues.  The power consumption on the 1060 while this is happening is about 68%.  Sorry I was trying to add a screenshot but it's not workng.  And this is with -100 on the core and no overclock on the memory, power limit 85 and the voltage not touched!

Maybe it just needs a lot of configuring but hoping you guys can help.  Is this normal for a 1060 to do this?  I have got one with Hynix memory unfortunately  By the way I'm using Awesome Miner.

Thanks

Have you tried limit the power ? More power = more heat so if you don't limit power, your gpu will get to hot. I keep all my GPU around 50°C no matter the coin I mine, I have reduced the power to 65, 70 or 75W depending on the card and set fan speed to 50%.

He will learn Smiley one way or another Smiley
77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is the mining of Ethereum profitable? on: January 08, 2018, 10:30:51 PM
I don' t understand why some people keep on saying it's not profitable, especially at the current rates. It's simple math and yes electricity cost is a variable.

With a rig like mine you can get more than 30$/day easily, some days even around 70$ if you can select the right coin (I even made 80$ one day on ZCL). Yes it needs power but not for a cost of 30$/day and if the mined coin increases in value, your profit per day is virtually much bigger. When I started mining I could make 10$/day on ETH, profitability was not very high. Now those same ETH I kept have 5 times more value so it's like I was earning already 50$ / day at that time. If the value continues to go up, it will increase profitability of mined coins even more. At that rate the cost of a mining rig is covered in less than 3 months, add electricity cost, one year electricity might add a month or two.

Of course, there is one easy alternative, you can buy the coin directly Smiley Buying 2500$ worth of ETH 6 months ago would be around 12000$ today, mining cannot beat this in a fast growing market but once prices will be more stable, mining will be the best alternative.

78  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best Speculative Coins to mine with GPU Rigs for 2018 on: January 04, 2018, 06:30:33 AM
I see you can mine XSH with x17 which should work well on nvidia hardware.

One thing about XSH and other less known and newer options like it.  Bigger exchanges like bittrex and cryptopia don't trade it.  You can't park anything in a wallet up there or mine directly to the exchange.  And some of the bigger pools like mph for instance don't host it.

Takes some extra effort.  Might be worth it though who knows.

No but you can park it in your own wallet.  Luckily I don't judge a coin's merits based on whether you can mine it at MPH or trad it at bittrex.

which wallet are you using for xsh?

ETC is showing signs of recovery and ETH is in a very positive trend, let's watch those!
80  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best Speculative Coins to mine with GPU Rigs for 2018 on: January 02, 2018, 10:14:05 PM
I also purchase smaller coins directly because I can't mine them all with my rig and focusing my rig power on one single coin is increasing the chance of missing the next big increase. I try to use my mining power where I have a more solid base to start with. Of course, it's all about a personal choice, I can be wrong, only future will tell.
