701  Economy / Economics / Re: Why QE is destroying jobs on: September 25, 2013, 10:24:05 PM
"Moreover, it is well-documented that quantitative easing increases inequality.  Quantitative easing doesn’t help Main Street or the average American. It only helps big banks, giant corporations, and big investors.

Too much inequality causes economic downturns and decreases aggregate consumer demand … and companies fire workers when demand decreases.  So quantitative easing also indirectly – but in a very real fashion – destroys jobs by destroying consumer demand."

the jobs were destroyed before, QE is only catching up in devaluing the dollar. This is why BTCs are trading at well over $100: store of value
702  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is every one getting ASIC ? on: September 25, 2013, 10:09:28 PM
I still don't get how a GPU miner at maybe $80 used for 400MH/s is better than a $18 ASIC miner that runs at 333 MH/s??

$200/GH vs. $54/GH

How do you justify the GPU being cheaper?  Even if you resell the GPU, you would eat at least the $54/GH ASIC cost in depreciation.  GPUs use a lot more power as well.

This is all assuming you're mining a SHA-256 coin.

because you're mining ALTs at 4 times++++ BTC profitability. Next BTC diff is 200 million and who knows what the next will be, perhaps 260 million. A USB Eruptor will give you 0.00007513 BTC per day. With a 400 Meg GPU you make .01 BTC per day. Get the point? ASIC are out of ALTs (so far)
703  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is every one getting ASIC ? on: September 25, 2013, 09:04:32 PM
Some ASICs are already shipping and available immediately.

You'll have to do your own ROI calculations depending on your own situation to determine if it's worth it to you.

"Standard" rigs are only useful for non SHA-256 coins, since all the ASIC chips in development/available today are for SHA-256 coins.

you'll never recover your money from all ASIC being shipped today. ASIC are only good for the people selling them. Think how many thousands of ASICMiner eruptors were sold at 2 BTC. Those people will never recover their money, but the people selling them are still laughing on their way to the bank. If you want to buy a ASIC to run as a hobby fine. If you're thinking in making money forget it.

The only profitable (about $10 or $20 a month per Gig) are the GPU miners. You can buy cheap used ones from gamer's on craigslist (if you're in the US). Don't buy new or you'll never recover your money
704  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is every one getting ASIC ? on: September 25, 2013, 08:43:28 PM
Or normal rig ?

ASICs are only good for the people selling them. The current on the market have no ROI, the future will have no ROI once they start shipping
705  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: September 25, 2013, 08:40:28 PM
another that looked very good 2 month ago but now has a ROI of about 3 years. Graphic cards to mine ALT continue to be the most profitable approach. With my 2G cards (already paid for) I'm spending $120 in power and getting BTC 1.2 a month

Yeap everybody knows you don't pay for porn... you just find it on a file sharing site, or a torrent and download it for free.. and nobody gets hurt..
It's a bit like not working for money because it's free ..Just wave a gun in a bank tellers face, and they hand it over for free.. and nobody gets hurt..

I'm thinking sites that use SXC get a free service.. A check for copyright violations and a list of threads, sites or files to be taken down..
maybe even the complaint will be made on a sites behalf, if they authorise it...

Along with SXC bounties paid for reports of pirated material from sites using SXC..

I mean I remember when music was free.. you'd be an idiot to own itunes....

we old timers, before there was web, we used the first internet sharing system. We still do lol. Did anyone say music is not free anymore? LOL

Maybe it will resolve itself, have you tried turning it off and on again?  Grin

I've tried every trick in the book, mining solo, load balanceing (which helped a bit), rebooted everthing, updated everything, tweaked until I could tweak no more, and I was still getting 90% stales..

My browser was pretty slow too..

Suddenly I'm at 5-10% stales.. Just started behaving itself..

I'm going to rationalise that my ISP was screwing around with their stuff, and have finished doing whatever they did.. It'll keep me sane..

Not that I started off high in the sanity department  Wink

10% stale is pretty high. On situations like that I use Q=0,S=1,E=2

Thanks Littledigger! As always this is just the start and more is coming over the next few weeks.

hoarding is the buzz word :-)

Thanks for your response, some times you may not have a computer with you, want to sit on the couch with a partner or simply work on a collection.  Don't worry digital services are on the way to!

I admit that I know nothing about the porno industry but appears to me that most revenue today is made on impulsive digital streams and sexual toys, in particular the kinky ones. Regardless, I wish you the best in your new venture

Yep, streams are coming soon, also you can pick up sex toys for SXC at www.cryptosextoys.com if you wish to.

Thanks for your support!

where are you located? Shipping cost is a concern of course. As a suggestion, although you accept a few ALT coins, shouldn't you give a discount when using SXC? Just a suggestion to improve SXC trading

Hey rpg, the toys come from the UK by Royal mail, the shipping calculator on the shopping cart is accurate and will give you the cost.  USA is 5 working days, EU 3 working days and UK next day. A rough guide is £5 per kilo.

The Alt list is being reduced this week, some of the coins that I take use me to simply pump their own coin and not promote the service I offer to their users, which is not acceptable, especially after claiming they want shops to take them etc.

All my shops are running nicely so new coins are going to have to provide something to be considered.  I will be doing an SXC promotion shortly, I agree with you on promoting SXC but my time has been taken up recently with getting this store up and running, but thats done now.

If you check the about us page my full contact and address in shown, we do not hide form our customers and are totally traceable.

you're doing  a great job. SXC is the only coin that has its own universe. I foresee it trading at the LTC level in the coming months and one of the few that will resist the lack of BTC in small miners hands to trade in ALT coins

712  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Official Sexcoin Thread - Upgrade Wallet NOW ! Less than 24 Hours to go ! on: September 23, 2013, 03:39:18 PM

we can discuss the best percentages approach , but if the hash increase lets say 200% from one block to the next you know we're under a flash attack. At that point the diff should increase and not wait for the 60 block retarget. The same way it should retarget down if hash comes down 20% from one block to the next

I hadn't thought of that...intriguing.

I'm sure there are more implementations one can think of. With the BTC mining concentrated in a few hands, mostly business, I foresee the future of ALT coins to be very bleak. A coin has to sustain itself in its own universe. The flash dumps remove BTCs from the small traders in the system, small traders that no longer have access to newly mined BTCs. Because of that is important to protect a coin from flash hash and at the same time create a way to spend them
713  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Official Sexcoin Thread - Upgrade Wallet NOW ! Less than 24 Hours to go ! on: September 23, 2013, 02:26:24 PM
Ok guys lets give it to you straight...

The retargeting is wrong... we've gotten together discussed it on IRC and are organising to take care of it.

We have said that we were going to issue two hardforks from the start which is fortunate, it means that we can fix it quickly, and we'll do an official announcement explaining what exactly went wrong.. Unfortunately we are moving our planned next mandatory client release forward to next week end so you'll have to upgrade again.. we are looking to make it so you'll have two weeks to upgrade.

The basic problem is we should be popping blocks every 60 seconds with a 30 block retarget. Instead we are on 30 second blocks with a 60 block difficulty retarget.. We are all mining at double rewards.

As embarrassing as it is, we've always played it straight, believing that honesty is the best policy, so we admit that we screwed up.

And we've decided that the thirty second blocks give us a competitive edge, the 60 second block retarget still gives us half hourly retargets so.. We are keeping them..

We will reduce the the rewards for blocks by half, and change the block halving to suit..

We know how incompetant this makes us look, but we are willing to wear the blame, and the damage is that miners will be getting more coins for about the next three weeks, and the price will probably drop due to the higher amount of coins hitting the exchanges.. Hopefully it will rebound at the next hardfork.

We know that this is a pain in the ass, but this should be the last mandatory update we need to issue, and the community knew we were doing another one so hopefully it will proceed smoothly.

add a poison pill for sudden hash increases

Can you elaborate on that ?

Hi,

IMO you (meaning the SXC dev team) have a very healthy point of view here.

Reading this forum gives me the impression that many (if not most) people here seem to think the purpose of a coin is being mined. Just think of ASICcoin - it was "developed" to be mined by ASIC owners. I've rarely seen such bullshit.

The real purpose of coins is, of course, to be used. I'm happy to see that you've understood this and that you're putting work into getting it there. That's why SXC is going to generate worth.

The purpose of mining is keeping a coin alive, i. e. making it work. Therefore multipools are dangerous in their effects. The only countermeasures I can see right now are quick difficulty readjustment plus a significant base of loyal miners. You've hopefully solved the former. I think the latter is indirectly also achieved by what you're doing, i. e. you're a loyal hard-working team interested in a bright long-term future of your coin.

I think SXC is on a good way.

10 block readjustment with a poison pill of if hash triples from one block to the next raise diff to 10 times over

One IMPORTANT issue that needs to be addressed soon:

- Hourly payouts.  Need to pay out the confirmed hourly batches ASAP.  Cause in 24 hours, it could be 50% lower.  Need to do it within the hour to maximize the profits.

Your talking about wanting your BTC paid hourly as opposed to once per 24hrs?

actual the beauty (and i know is close to impossible) would be to sell the immature coins out of the pool purse and beating everyone else :-)

I've made some more tweaks to vardiff settings.  I'm also going to get a top 10 (or 15 or whatever) hashrate table up today (hopefully), including share info and reject %.  It'll only be for current round, but its a start.  There are 1 or 2 users with an alarming reject rate

you have to raise the diff. I'm mining with Q=0,S=1,E=2 and still getting a 13% stale that is worse then yesterday 7%. It's really a waste. I really love your pool and the choice of keeping the coins i want, but not this way

As requested, users now have a new tab on the Stats page "Worker Stats" to see individual worker information!

let me know when you raise the difficulty, because with a stale rate of 10% is a waste electricity

I've made some adjustments to starting difficulty (just a 16->32 jump for now), as well as how quickly vardiff will retarget you, and the maximum size it will bump/drop you.  This should let people get to their 'target difficulty' more quickly.  Hopefully this will have a positive affect on stales.  I didn't want to get too aggressive with it, but I can continue to adjust further as I get more feedback and monitor the results of these changes.

it improved to around 7% still way too high Also something else is wrong. I'm supplying .73% of the network hash so  I would expect to see .73% of accepted shares, or close to it, but my shares are only .4% of the accepted shares. What's causing it?
