1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is there any chance that XRP can defeat BTC? on: January 21, 2019, 03:57:19 PM
No, absolutely not.
Just do the math.
Look at their marketcaps, btc is FIVE times more than xrp.
Now look at the circulating supply of xrp and the current price.
Times it all up to see how much one xrp would need to cost in order to "beat" btc.
Yeah, it just ain't happening.  BTC has 40% of the ENTIRE crypto market.

On top of that, xrp has no use.
The company uses blockchain technology to provide transfer services mainly to banks.
But the actual coin itself? no use whatsoever.
Something like that can never organically grow to dominate the market.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does Zilliqa will go for a run soon? on: January 21, 2019, 03:54:24 PM
Zilliqa has been one of the strong hopefuls in the smart contract department.
On paper, it definitely looks better than eth or eos.
but the major problem with all of these "promising" new smart contract platforms is that the vast majority haven't gone to market yet.
I mean even eos was just barely able to release their mainframe but it has all proven to be a huge mess.

With so many options, unless a project can penetrate the market, they will die.
Especially in a competitive category like smart contracts.
I mean, we already have eth which dominates everything.
On top of that we have a little bit older but new ones like neo and waves that have already built huge networks.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What Is Going On In Crypto World Now ? on: January 20, 2019, 02:43:43 PM
Hitbtc and cryptopia are both terrible exchanges and should just dissapear.
They are dinosaur relics from the past and are totally unsecure and can't support its own customers.

The golden standard for an exchange is binance.
They have low fees and respond to problems quickly.

But, in the end, it is not the exchanges that is the major problem.
The major problem is that crypto is still new, it is a lawless market.
AS the market develops and matures over the years, more securities and regulations will make it more stable.
This includes security.
How many times do you hear the stock market getting hacked? someday crypto will be like that.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is now the time to buy ALTs? on: January 20, 2019, 02:30:24 PM
Ever since btc crashed from the $6000s down to the $3000s it has been a great time buy up.
In these kinds of conditions however, it is actually best to just stick with btc.
It will minimize your losses and typically, in the end, brings you the most profit.
When you cash out, you basically have to go through btc anyways.
so your alt needs to outperform btc.
You will find that unless you time it right, alts rarely do this in the long run.
There are many times when they outperform for a slight period of time.
But most of us are hodlers in the longterm so it is more advantageous to get btc.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain transactions using fiat currencies on: January 19, 2019, 04:14:22 PM
What do you mean, like if you used a visa card to pay for something using your own fiat, but the transaction was done through blockchain?

honestly, I don't see any advantage to this.
As it stands, electronic fiat payments are all pretty open, you can easily check and track your money and purchases anytime.
There is no problem at all with people tampering with it and many safety guards in place if someone does an unauthorized transaction.

Using blockchain as it stands now, however, has a lot of drawbacks.
First off, the cost is very high now due to the lack of scalable technology.
There are projects like nano and iota which could work if mass adopted.
Also, confirmation times don't scale either.

blockchain has way better uses than for just simple everyday small purchases.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should ICOs be regulated on: January 19, 2019, 04:10:24 PM
Of course ICOs should be regulated.
And a lot of the "bad news" you hear about crackdowns on crypto in China, India, and Korea were doing exactly that.
Any civilized government should put forth laws to stop criminal behavior.
And they should follow up with prosecuting those that are criminals.
It's a good thing.

Of course, its not so simple, because and ICO can have investors from all over the world.
So an ICO can be registered in a country and be subject to those countries regulations.
But if you are not a citizen of that country, there is not much you can do to get money back.
For example, Japan is not responsible for taking care of American citizens.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A bounty telegram channel that do not update is a warning sign on: January 17, 2019, 04:24:49 PM
Of course it is a warning sign.
Or rather, it is a sign the project is already dead.

I would say that last year, the vast majority of these kinds of projects were not out to scam people.
They just failed miserably due to market conditions and poor management.
Some of them just bail, they will literally disappear.  They are cutting their losses and moving on.
Some of them get desperate and try to do another round of funding.

Whatever the case is, it is a losing situation.
The best thing for you to do is to move on.
Even if you do get paid, the coin will be worthless, so no point in stressing over it.
8  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [WARNING] Waves X is a Phishing Scam! on: January 17, 2019, 04:21:01 PM
Good post.
It is always important to point out scams and even more important to have proof.

It always amazes me how people just throw common sense away because they are greedy.
Because thats what it comes down to, the appeal to your sense of greed.
Give me this and you will get a lot more!

In the case of seeds, I thin ka better example would be credit or debit cards.
It's more like giving someone your card and pin.

think about this: someone comes up to you, you have no idea who they are, but they say, "Hi if you give me your credit card and pin I promise I will give you money!"
Doesn't it sound crazy to believe that person?
Yet people still give their private keys away.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you see a future with one cryptocurrency or thousands? on: January 17, 2019, 04:16:04 PM
I don't see it as bad at all.
I see it as full utilization of blockchain technology.
Blockchain, like the internet, is open source for everyone.
It is meant to be built on.
Do you ever feel, "Ugh, there are too many websites!"
Not really.

In the end, there will be many thousands of coins but you will only pay attention and use the ones that are relevant to you.
This does not diminish the value of others.
Mainstream adoption will allow for this many to exist and have many different successful projects to exist at the same time.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH Fork? on: January 16, 2019, 11:37:32 PM
It's all about scalability (although there are some things to improve stability).

The major problem with eth is that it doesn't scale well.
What that means is that the more people use the network, the slower and more expensive it becomes.
In 2017, the problems really started to show.
For example, there was a very popular game called Cryptokitties.
It was like Tamagotchi and Pokemon but on the eth network.
It caused a huge spike in eth network traffic and confirmation times slowed down to hours and gas prices soared.

The upcoming developments are meant to fix this.
People are excited because this keeps eth competitive against the newer smart contract platforms and shows eth has reliable development.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Blacklisted: Ethereum No Longer a Google Ad Keyword on: January 16, 2019, 11:32:41 PM
The way things are worded can change the meaning significantly.
By saying, "Google purposedly blackliste..."
Means that google somehow is unjustly attacking ethereum and crypto.
That just isn't the truth, they can do what they want with their business.
And they also are including ways for advertisements to be mad...seems like a clickbait type article.

Actually, I really would like companies like google to do more things like this.
We don't need more people knowing crypto for its shitty coins and echanges.
And I would much rather have the next bull run happen with institutional money rather than fomo money like last dec 2017.
It was greedy, inexperienced fomos that made the market so unstable.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Good ICOs should be protected from dump on: January 16, 2019, 11:27:05 PM
Well, it's obvious that you have no idea about market economics, supply and demand, or even how to interpret basic market data.
While I applaud you attempt to find solutions, you have some very basic things off.

first, most of your conclusions are coming from what you see as bounty hunters or multiple accounts being responsible for dumps.
This just isn't the issue at all.
Any ICO will typically only allot 1 to 5% of the ENTIRE minted or available tokens to bounty hunters.
simple mathematics is that that percentage is not nearly high enough to cause catastrophic dumps like you predict.
And even if hunters cheat and use multiple accounts, it doesn't change the max alloted to bounty hunters.

There are much more simple reasons (and, of course, more complicated ones as well).
Prices dump after an ICO simply because they charged too much during the ICO.
Any ICO that charges more than 5 cents per token is ripping you off, yet somehow we have ICOs charging up to a dollar. Of course it will crash.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If you had to 100% invest into 1 alt coin, which would it be? on: January 16, 2019, 12:19:09 AM
I would choose...MORE THAN ONE COIN!

I guess these questions are fun, but really, investing in just one thing has always been the worst idea in the whole world.
Time and time again it has proven that you will most likely lose money by putting all your money in one basket.
This is true in other markets as well as crypto.
With so much evidence and examples backing this up, only an uneducated fool would do that.

With crypto, it is easy to dream big.
People often think, "If I just would have bought btc five years ago, I would be rich!"
So they think that if they can just find that one lucky altcoin they will be millionares in a year or two.

This is basically gambling, saying, "If I just bought the right lottery ticket!"
It is always better to diversify, not just to reduce risk but to maximise profits.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does Fork Delta affects the crypto negatively? on: January 16, 2019, 12:16:16 AM
You should look more closely at the numbers.
Yes, forkdelta allows anyone to sell their ERC20 tokens, but how much trading volume is actually going on?
You will find that mostly, there is ZERO trading going on.

forkdelta is not the problem.
decentralized exchanges like idex and forkdelta are necessary in the crypto world and help its economy.
Bounty hunters dumping is a thing of the past.
In order for the price of a token to truly crash, there would need to be a simultaneous dump on a high volume exchange.
Otherwise the 1 to 3% typically alloted to bounty hunters won't make any difference.

Now that most ICOs fail, there isn't even a place to make that kind of a dump anymore.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ico fund raising on: January 14, 2019, 08:25:27 PM
Well, ETH is famous for their ICO.
just do a quick google and you will find all kinds of articles about it.
When ETH was doing their ICO, peopel were yelling SCAM!
It was a new model for startups and people were suspicious.

Now, eth has basically laid down the blueprint for ICO success.
It has generated an entire economy within and economy.

As far as Satoshi goes, I'm not aware of any fundraising that happened.
Part of the mystery and awesomeness of btc is that Satoshi created it all himself.
Because it is such a huge achievement, many believe that satoshi was actually a group of people.
Whatever the case, there was no btc ico, just geeks mining in those early years.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: List of coins i should hold for next 2 years... on: January 13, 2019, 04:49:28 PM
I would say your strategy is actually a lot better then the greedy noobs you mostly find here.
Something similar to what you are doing but a little different, is to save up to get a coin that has masternodes.
Instead of buying every month.
Set aside money each month then jump in to buy up a coin with masternodes (they typically require you to hodl a lot of them).

This is another easy way to get passive income in crypto.

Or, if you don't want to do a masternode yourself, you can invest in a Proof of Stake coin.
The rewards won't be as high, but you don't have to invest as much.

You can always go with ARK, they have a very unique staking model where you vote for people and can change your vote anytime.
There are resoruces that let you see who is giving the biggest payouts.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: No bull run this year?! For real? on: January 13, 2019, 04:45:26 PM
Well, people will say all kinds of things year.
After all, in the end, bitcointalk is just a free forum.
You would do a lot better if you followed real analysts rather than random posters.

From what most real market analysts have said ever since way back in 2017 was this:
the crazy bull run will be short lived and the crash that follow will last at least 2 years.
So far it has proven true.
so we can expect another year of crashing or bearish trends.
This has a lot to do with market economics and data.

BTC soared to all new heights in a very short amount of time.
Of course it would crash for a prolonged period of time.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is CMC still safe at all ?? on: January 13, 2019, 04:42:28 PM
Was cmc ever "safe"?
Common sense should e enough to realize that cmc isn't reliable at all.
It's like wikipedia but with horrible advertising thrown in.

But, just like wikipedia, I find it to be an incredible resource.
Not to see the value of a coin (that has to be done at the actual exchange it is on).
But as a reference point to further research.
The most useful thing is to see the trading volume and where it is being traded.
For older coins, it is also very usefull to see the early trading history, before cmc got all corporate.

Other then that, meh. Or it is downright scammy.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Never buy too much coins because you would eventually forgot gosh on: January 13, 2019, 04:38:34 PM
Ouch, yeah, that sucks.
After awhile, it does become harder to stay up to date with everything.
When you first start out, everything is new and exciting so you have the energy to spend a lot of your free time researching.
But after two years, and a bear market, you just kind of stop.

And then there are the bounty hunters.
I casually do bounty hunting but have still managed to amass around 30 coins.
I can't imagine how many coins a full time bounty hunter has.

Now that I think of it, it is a good time to go and see the progress of the projects I am hodling.
Might take a whole day lol.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 2019 Shopping List on: January 13, 2019, 04:35:02 PM
Ugh, I hate xrp buyers.
Do a bit of research, ripple is a terrible company.
And ADA? Cardano has become a laughing stock in the smart contract platforms category.
They are even worse then eos, at least eos has released its mainnet.
But both are still totally non functional and aren't even close to penetrating the market.

But, I guess I'm being too harsh, to each their own.
And yes, it is a great time to buy.
Last year, I had set my buy in price to btc at $2500.
I decided to go ahead and buy back in when it dropped down to $3200.
I bought up ICON and Polymath.
