Whatever happened to the discussion on what defines a cryptocurrency, and how that applies to SolidCoin and how the control of the network is handled. Are these unrelated things?
I've started a poll to see if there is significant disagreement: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=51283A pool in a nice forum is not representative, only the market shows the real demand. I'm not trying to measure demand.

I've added cryptography and digital signatures to the list. Unfortunately, I don't know how to increase the maximum number of votes per person.

There has been some disagreement here as to what exactly constitutes a "cryptocurrency". Maybe we can establish a rough consensus here. I just added everything I could think of, so please let me know if I've missed any potential criteria.

People have the right to utilize their copyrights however they want, and that includes releasing it into the public domain, or under creative commons. But if they want to control the copyright a little tighter and release it only to people who pay them, like in your commission example, that is also their right, and not yours to just take it.
Pirates are not advocating we "just take" private information. If the commissioner for some reason now chooses to make his property publicly visible, that doesn't include anyone else in the original agreement.

Really what we need is some way for common people to compensate artists easily instead of relying on lawyers and middlemen. Like if artists could include a tiny address within the song metadata, and people could send a payment to that address with no involvement from a record company, the credit card companies, or the banks. Whenever one of my favorite artists releases an album for tips, I always pay. I just don't want insane prices, DRM, and to pay executives to tell us how damaging piracy is. If I could just use an app to donate proportionately to who I listen to, all the better. People now consume art so constantly, from anywhere, and there are so many more people, that this might even work better for artists than making the illegal version superior and treating us like garbage. Does anyone currently offer legal (in the USA) donation-based music and accept Bitcoin? We could actually help solve this problem.

I thought there was no block chain? I'm still confused about how wallets and transactions are secured. Could you dumb it down into a YouTube video?

Q: Why is it piracy to copy something for decades, but completely OK one day all of a sudden?
A: Because the expiration date is completely arbitrary, set by a bunch of corrupt millionaire "representatives".
Human rights do not work that way!

tl;dr I like gambling, your website and feeling but not your attitude. You wanna play by the rules and make a business ? i think you should better leave bitcoin alone and keep with the "traditional" payment processors. Want to make a statement against laws approved in detriment of all of us better get an .onion address and start doing real business on par with silk road. Just my opinion Sure, they could have onion addresses as a fallback, but the average Joe does not use Tor. You don't need government involvement to earn a reputation for fair gambling. As a user, I think a gaming association would help a LOT. Someone has to tell newbs where is safe... Who better than those with a long-term stake in the industry's reputation?

You got all these geniuses thinking they can "pump & dump" SC like it's Bitcoin. Wait till they find out just how seemingly impossible that task has become with SC2 . Exactly. All CoinHunter would have to do is refuse the blocks of GPU miners, or lower the block reward until his chosen people catch up. And if they DON'T have GPU miners, there is no way anyone can out-manipulate the guy who dictates the money supply. Worst-case scenario, he could fork the chain and release a new client with an updated block checkpoint. It's like trying to crash World of Warcraft gold. The only way would be if Blizzard messed up the rules themselves. We'll have to wait and see if CoinHunter has the l33t "chairman of the Solid Fed" econ skillz to out-perform the Bitcoin free market. This is actually turning into an interesting experiment.

Hey guys! I didn't want to register on the SolidCoin forums, so here's my entry: Features: "In RealSolid You Trust" - since you gotta. Awesome supply and demand icon with: Extremely elastic demand Wacky wild whatever supply! 32 yesterday, 5 today, tomorrow who knows! CPF deadweight loss of taxation You can keep the reward, since it's in SC.

Please explain how exactly are you going to protect the network against government threats.
How are you going to prevent the government from physically taking over those "trusted" nodes?
I think the trusted nodes are spread around the world, with backup nodes setup ready to go live when something happens... You can just copy the "trusted" wallet to a new server, install solidcoind, set the config to trusted-node-mode, and the network will continue... So the US-Army has to find the new location and send the special forces there, enough time to setup other servers... "Once something happens" is too late. They have now sent soldiers to go meet your family and discuss your whereabouts. You will never see your children again if you refuse to cooperate.

I purpose a fork with the following features: 1) Open source from the start, and 2) Controlled by someone other than RealSolid. It would probably never be worth anything, but could be fun. We could call it FairSolidCoin, or I0SC, or LiteSolid...

Bitcoin's biggest problem is that it's not consumer-friendly. No one would buy anything with Bitcoin when they could use Visa, with its built-in liability protection. Until that issue is resolved, Bitcoin will never be used for anything but money transfers and buying illegal goods.
I hope you're right. Eventually Bitcoin will support really secure built-in escrow (multisigned transactions). You'll be able to secure your purchase with any mutually trusted third party. No more trusting a handful of credit card companies.

With UNLIMITED energy, I agree that the value of land would be low, but it might not be non-existing. Assuming no warp drive, physical proximity might be a big deal. Imagine your business competitors have a 20 minute head start as light travels from your space station back to Earth. Or you need to pay tolls to get your information through privately owned volumes of space. Here's a recent article on the subject: http://www.overcomingbias.com/2011/10/the-future-of-cities.htmlIn case anyone wants to tip me, I'm still 13K6ukroqbAcajtNezR4G8w94DyX96kVMK
