I love you all.
762  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Coinbase turning into another Gox? on: March 25, 2014, 04:49:58 AM
Instead of going on some message board and smearing feces all over the walls making accusations and innuendo, then why not get in contact them and clear it up, because there has to be a reason you're getting flagged as high risk.

I have to agree with this one.  As an online business owner with my own forums it drives me ape shit batty when users go on my forums to ask a bunch of clueless random people why they had problems ordering on my store.  Ask the people who run the store.  Topics like this are just sensationalist attention drawers that don't get you an inch closer to solving your problem, and instead puts a potentially bad taste in onlookers mouths about the company you're mentioning.

764  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just Made a Payment with the New Fees on: March 24, 2014, 10:01:41 PM
Im not trying to scam the miners out of their due fee.

But i started on this scene in June of 2013 and I can confidently say a *lot* of people were using the word "Free" at that point.

It slowly evolved near the end of 2013 to people saying "for almost free" ...

But I had it in my head either way Smiley

EDIT:   Ah!  Is that because in June 2013 .0001 basically *was* free?  (BTC was $90)
765  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin arbitrage, pros and cons, experience and profitability on: March 24, 2014, 09:50:40 PM
So are you basically making $3.00 here and $1.50 there, after fees?
Because to me the pain involved in coordinating all that just for $3.00 wouldn't be worth it.
And lets say you're playing with 10x that much.  Not sure even $30 a day would be worth all the effort and stress.
Then again day traders stress and sweat and fret and toil over a few dollars a day, en masse.
I can't deal with it unless I am making big bucks...
766  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Just Made a Payment with the New Fees on: March 24, 2014, 09:47:46 PM
Does this sound correct?
Bought something on TigerDirect.com with Bitcoin - $86.88
Was expected to pay a miner fee by Bitcoin QT.   Worked out to $0.05

So I had to pay 5 cents fee on an $87 purchase.

Should we stop saying Bitcoin is free?  I mean ... Smiley

I know - beating a dead horse, but every time I have to pay, I ask myself why I tell people its free.
767  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin: Fad, or here to stay? on: March 24, 2014, 09:39:00 PM
While this is true, just to play a little devil's advocate, many of those technologies were improved upon.  Someone built a better mousetrap if you will.  I think crypto-currency or whatever you want to call it will be here to stay, the essence of Bitcoin.  Whether Bitcoin will be the penultimate or just the beginning of something bigger, who knows.

Though I can't exactly articulate why, I have a very strong feeling that Bitcoin will be honored as a foundational protocol long-term.  It will be the Grand Daddy of crypto-currency, existing long into perpetuity.  Even if a multitude of far more impressive options come after it.  I just have this feeling that based on its beginnings, and current progress, it will carve out its own space, and remain there, among many other options in the future.  I don't see it going away.  Maybe its the eventual awareness everyone will have of its brilliance.  Some level of honor and respect will be granted to it.

768  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin arbitrage, pros and cons, experience and profitability on: March 24, 2014, 09:33:29 PM
Heh, that is really cunning plan. But I am really interested in experiences of people who have been actually doing arbitrage. With this constant 2% spread on average between exchanges, there must be some people who profit on this. Am I the only one making money on BTC arbitrage?

Well, among all my friends, yes.   Every one of them ultimately lost all their BTC trying to play the system.  Or got it stolen out of their online accounts.  Seriously.   All of them.
I would be interested in what kind of money you are making.  I know there are some guys making money in this forum doing arbitrage.  But part me assumes its not very much, and not worth the risk.
If for example you've brought yourself from 10 BTC to 20 BTC, I would be interested in hearing about it.  It takes guts honestly.

PS:  Go to the Economics forum, then Speculation subforum and you'll meet 500 dudes who are doing this.
PPS:  Starting a thread on arbitrage and having those signature URL's might be considered strange.

My arbitrage:

1)  Buy large quantity and hold in paper wallet.
2)  Buy smaller amount and hold in hot wallet.
3)  Spend smaller amount.
4)  Replenish smaller amount.

Repeat.

Guaranteed earnings.  Promise.

770  Economy / Digital goods / Re: BitcoinWallet.com - SOLD for $250,000 on: March 24, 2014, 02:01:09 PM
Wow!  I find it hard to imagine that will pay off.  Why not just invest the $250,000 in bitcoin instead?

Because certain types of people are so entrenched in the "old school" way of thinking, as far as how to "truly" get rich, that they must continue doing things the old school way.  Like spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a domain name so they can build a legitimate business around it.   Or, like most businesses:  Fail after the first year.

I see stuff like this and I just picture a typical business person in a suit who thinks Bitcoin is pretty neat but has no true belief that it will ever hit astronomical values.  So he buys the domain name.  Cuz ... well .. thats just what you do.

The dev should be transparent about where they're going and what for, otherwise I'll assume they are being set up for dumping.

Come on.

Do you *really* believe the guys who made this coin have access to the Greece citizen ID list and are *really* going to hand it out to greek citizens in the first place?

"LOL" ....

Since the entire premise is hogwash, you should expect this to be a pump and dump.   Hop on board.

774  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitoin could worth more than half a million dollars each on: March 23, 2014, 02:51:47 PM
This is the pitfall of only educating yourself to the point of "knowing how to day trade bitcoins".
Not only do you not see the value of the long term investment, but you have no idea why it would ever go above $4,000 like most people in this thread have said.
You're all viewing it as a stock.

I would encourage everyone here to do some research on the platform, rather than hyperfocusing on the market price day to day.
Also find out whats going on in the innovation realm with bitcoin all over the world.
You guys need to understand that the possible market reach for this technology is staggering.

There are 40 million people in Africa alone who are currently using a digital currency with their smartphones to transfer funds.
There are at least 3 startups I know of which are working to replace that with Bitcoin, as it is cheaper and faster.
That's 40 million new people using Bitcoin.

Now add to that the remittances market, which everyone agrees Bitcoin will dominate first.  $300 Billion dollars.
Do I need to repeat that?
$300 Billion Dollars.
For one market that Bitcoin is capable of disrupting.

Awareness of the Bitcoin Protocol leads to awareness that Bitcoin will go into countless other financial markets and dominate as well.
$4,000 a coin is a pittance.   Believe me.
Remember that every time you try to make a quick $20 by selling your coins.
Buy and hold instead.  And buy more every chance you get.

775  Economy / Speculation / Re: Should I buy $10,000 worth of BTC right now? on: March 23, 2014, 02:15:38 PM
Well I bought 8 BTC when it was at $850 lol so I'm thinking about buying now, it will hit 700 again in a few days right?

You sound like you just stumbled in drunk to ask this question. Look, no one here knows shit about the future price. You got burned before, if you are ready to accept the risk of it happening again go for it.

He didn't get burned before.  At $850 he is going to make a huge percent profit.

Most of us (well maybe outside of this subforum) know that Bitcoin is not a short term thing.

776  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If I loaned you 1 bitcoin today, how could i expect you to repay if value rises? on: March 23, 2014, 02:12:43 PM
Holy crap what a messy thread.

Original poster:

You simply document the amount 1 BTC buys at the time you loaned it:  $600

That's what he owes you.  Even if its 10 years from now.

777  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did Peter Schiff just turn bullish on Bitcoin? on: March 23, 2014, 02:39:37 AM
Hearsay from someone who has an interest in promoting Bitcoin. If I didn`t hear it from Schiff, then as far as I`m concerned he didn`t say it.

Why are your apostrophe's backwards?  Is that the cool way to type?

I don't see any reason to call the guy a liar.  Unlike Schiff, he doesn't blatantly posture bullshit just to protect his business.  Schiff was a horrible actor, and every time he tried to argue with someone about why Bitcoin sucks, he would miserably fail, and stumble over his own words.   Because he himself didn't believe what he was saying.  I posted two threads about this in the past.  It was painfully obvious he was just ranting because he considered Bitcoin a competitor to his Gold business.  Not because he actually had a problem with Bitcoin.  So i am not in the slightest surprised if he "secretly" acknowledges how awesome it is.  He's just being honest.

Remember guys, it was only 6 months ago that we were frothing at the mouth if *anyone* other than us said something about Bitcoin.

Multiple reports coming from major companies is just proof this thing is going worldwide.  Good news.
