1102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple XRP surge open source and ZipZap news! on: October 08, 2013, 07:57:02 PM
(obviously don't get that holding centralized exchange IOUs).

Why not ? isn't it the same to hold bitstamp IOU on ripple network or ripple IOU on bistamp platform ? the only difference for me is that if you wanna trade on bitstamp you have to withdraw them from ripple, but it takes not even a minute...

What's a "Ripple IOU"?  Huh

I think he just means being in XRP, makes more sense than holding IOU's on or from exchanges that are subject to seizure, failure, etc.  While that is true, I could be wrong in what he actually meant.

Yup, that's exactly what I meant. XRP is much much better in a portfolio than exchange IOUs. Exchange IOUs are worth face value in the best-case scenario, so there is no upside risk. But there is much downside in holding IOUs of any particular gateway due to seizure, delays, regulation changes, etc..

face value (market value) =/= best-case scenario..... risks are already priced in. yes, there is upside risk, there. so i dont see the validity of what you are saying. yes, xrp does not have counterparty risk, but it does have speculative risk. similarly, while IOUs have counterparty risk, that is priced into the speculative risk and thus, market price. in this sense, depending on which direction markets go, xrp may be far, far worse in a portfolio than any given IOUs.

1104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The real kick-off for the Ripple network Bloomberg/financeyahoo articles on: October 07, 2013, 05:57:25 PM
Hmmm. Well, I guess we'll see over the next few months if this gets adopted.... certainly seems to be strong potential for access/adoption (for US people anyway). Not sure how this will work in practice, though.

Unlike Bitcoin, Ripple is centralized and easily regulated. US govt. will definitely support its adoption.

hehe i just want to make some dough speculating on xrp -- not too worried about that. i mean, not thinking too long term about it.  Wink

bitcoin is where it's at, for sure!!  Cheesy

1108  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Study: Everyone hates environmentalists and feminists on: September 30, 2013, 08:45:37 PM
Because feminists have no legitimate complaints (there are women CEO's, what else do you want)
And environmentalists have gone from being friendly towards the environment to being outright anti human.
Their logic goes that if people didn't exists the environment would benefit.
Which is true, but seriously, fuck em.
Really? That is your position? Or are you trolling?

Having a woman CEO means women have achieved equality? Kind of like having a black president means black people have achieved equality?

Here's where to opt-out of certain junk mail supposedly: DMAchoice.org
Nothing directly from the post office, though? I think I am a little scared to give my information to these people...
1110  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple price in January. And your opinion about Ripple Protocol future! on: September 30, 2013, 01:41:19 AM
... Or are you maybe suggesting that reserve/trust line/etc. amounts will be drastically lowered?
These limits have already been lowered to 25% of their original amount:
Will it be lowered in the future? How does Ripple being open source affect this, also?

Thanks in advance for any information you have.

I think we're due for a nice healthy drop to 110s-120s, but who knows, with this whale? I'm certainly not buying any more at these rates, anyway.  Smiley

I'm just trolling, guys, LOL.  Grin

I still have 30k xrp that I will keep holding for a while, I am not tripping on it too much. But when it comes down to it, no matter how great Ripple could be, or is, or how widely adopted..... how does that make xrp any more valuable? there's so many xrp, and like 100-200 is likely enough for most people to use a wallet for life. why should it become so valuable? i think people in this early stage see xrp value as correlated to the health of the Ripple network, but it isn't, and i don't know how this will go in the long run. In that sense, this is part price discovery, part pump and dump. Hard to say what the value of xrp "should" be when it has no practical use. And considering the vast supply, it won't just equalize at what people are willing to pay to join the Ripple network.
1114  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Clock is Ticking - Will there be a Government shutdown and how to prepare? on: September 28, 2013, 05:42:23 PM
The only thing needed is the police and judicial system. The rest of government could remain shutdown indefinitely. The economy would really grow fast without a vast bureaucratic cancerous lymphoma suffocating it.
That doesn't really work in practice. A lot of people would be screwed without proper transitional infrastructure in place. Privileged people would be fine; poor folk, seniors, at-risk kids, mentally ill..... take your pick, but fuck the economy if society looks like what it will in this scenario.
1115  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US government shutdown on: September 28, 2013, 05:38:10 PM
It won't happen in any real sense. If it happens, it won't be prolonged, and not many people will really feel it. This is all just like some retarded little game show. Pathetic, really.....

 Undecided
