181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Be ready when is launches! on: October 11, 2011, 03:49:13 PM
just to be clear, any coins mined from testnet are in a way worthless, yes?
182  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When should Litecoin be launched? on: October 11, 2011, 03:09:31 PM
where is the change vote button (In hindsight I would rather launch my miners and deal with whatever bugs come up in what for me is early evening rather than at 4am...)

183  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitmarket.eu sucks on: August 20, 2011, 01:10:44 PM
Hello, I'm quite new at this whole bitcoin business but although I've had much the same experience as you with bitmarket.eu, my take on it is rather different. When I signed up to them they asked for a verification, I gave them an ebay account, got the same mail as you and sent the pm via ebay. Then nothing. Two days later, instead of having a hissy fit, I went to the bitmarket.eu website, went to the FAQ, got the admin email address and sent them a polite mail wondering what was going on, I just got an email back saying my ebay account didn't have a high enough rep and could I verifiy with a validated payapal account. I'm waiting for their reply which I reckon will be positive.

It's good that they are careful, imagine how easy it would be to create a bunch of empty accounts (it takes all of 30 seconds to create an ebay account) and then use all these to artifically manipulate the bitcoin rate. I could see the owner of a competing exchange wanting to do just that.

Bitcoin is very new and it is just entering the mainstream conciousnes, you can equate that with columbian capitalism, lots of money to be maid, lots of sharks out prowling and lots of newbies thinking they are going to strike it rich. Be patient, extend trust, vouch for yourself. you'll get there.

Ash

if you want to donate to thank me for my wisdom :-p

184  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best pooled minning? on: August 20, 2011, 11:24:09 AM
I've been using slush for a few weeks, no complaints on this end. however, could someone explain how no-variance pools actually work? I had a look at the ars page and it reads to me like the owner is making a healthy profit on the excess...

-Hello?
-Hey, do you know how many audiophiles it takes to change a lightbulb?
-No, how many?
-Tell you later, you wouldn't appreciate the answer on this 12kbps codec

186  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Introduce yourself :) on: August 20, 2011, 11:08:17 AM
I'm Ash, I heard about bitcoin a few weeks ago, I've set up a couple of cpu miners in my office and a gpu at home on my gaming rig.

I've signed up here because I'd like to find some bitcoin paying small jobs, I can translate anything from french to english and vice versa, edit film and design lights for theatre. I can also provide tour guide services anywhere in france.

I have been having some issues trying to double mine (cpu + gpu) on a windows 7 machine, my gpu miner is gpuminer 2011-05-21, I can't seem to find a working cpu miner that can coexist with it.

Anyway, hope you're all enjoying yourselves.
187  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: Looking for vintage laptops for BTC on: May 20, 2011, 08:31:35 AM
I am looking for any pieces of portable vintage computing from the pre-1990 era. If you have any 286 trash with folding screens in your garages or basements, I will buy it for BTC. If the price rises above my BTC savings, I will consider mailing the rest in cash (PLN/EUR/USD). Of course I pay first, since I'm a newbie. Notice: Please don't offer any hardware in collector's condition, as I'm sure I can't afford it Cheesy  Shipping to Poland.

EDIT. Brief description of what I look for:
-80386 processor or weaker
-monochrome screen
-should rather boot
-doesn't need to have any peripherals, guidebooks etc.
-any condition from "in one piece" up
-hard disk preferred, but not necessary; eventually I might be interested in buying one separately

Hello, I have an old Mac SE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macintosh_SE) fully working with a half dozen games and a writing suite. How much would you offer?
