1441  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Marketplace standards best practices on: July 06, 2011, 12:07:09 PM
excellent. This is exactly what I was looking for. Are there any website scripts to auto convert current rates to BTC for ecommerce yet? I suppose it's a rather simple thing, just not something I have any experience with.
If you check out the merchant page on bitfreak you might find some answers to your questions.
1442  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Centralization is Killing BitCoin on: July 06, 2011, 07:38:58 AM
Well I would expect a lot more mining pools to pop-up now that all the software for doing so is open source.
1443  Economy / Economics / Re: The Mt. Gox Incident on: July 05, 2011, 01:05:16 PM
What did you find interesting about it?

What are the implications that it illuminates?
I'm not saying it implicates or illuminates anything. Does it?

edit - the reason I found it interesting was simply because it allows us to visualize the Mt. Gox crash and how the market reacted. As I said, nothing ground breaking, but perhaps interesting/useful for a few.
1444  Economy / Economics / Re: The Mt. Gox Incident on: July 05, 2011, 12:11:46 PM
and?

Please elaborate. I warned it was nothing special.
If you find boring why post one word.
1445  Economy / Economics / The Mt. Gox Incident on: July 05, 2011, 11:27:03 AM
I thought this was an interesting graph worth sharing. Don't flame me if this is really basic/boring stuff, I'm far from an economist or market analyst.  It's just a fairly simple mtgoxUSD/BTC graph showing price and volume for the period between June 16th and July 5th, with a clarity of about 8 points per day. There is also a missing gap of information between June 18th and June 26th. The location of my mouse indicates the last log before the crash. Their API actually changed around the time of the crash, breaking many scripts. I'm not sure if it was the crash or their API change which broke my script first.

edit: because I'm feeling nice, here is the live version (constantly updated): http://bitscape.co.cc/index.php?page=charts&cc=BTC
1446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My earlier google trend correlation still holding strong, crash predictable on: July 05, 2011, 04:54:34 AM
This shows that Google Trends actually correlates pretty well with $/BTC.
You sir, are a genius. VERY informative post. Can I use that graph else where? It's great.

nt will keep this bitcoin from thriving. If in fact we did scare the new crowd away, it's only temporary.
Yes, I agree with you, Bitcoin will come back strong given time, and the advantage is lower prices again for a little while, which I can't argue with, but it is a shame to lose the big influx of interest Bitcoin had garnered recently.
1447  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GOD CREATED BITCOINS! A NEW SCIENTIFIC STUDY DONE BY ME. on: July 05, 2011, 04:43:53 AM
There's one big thing you're missing here - the real identity of Satoshi is unknown. Satoshi is, in fact, God.

This leads to the conclusion that God is Japanese. Interesting.

Oh wow, you're on to something here! Does this lead to a new phenomenon that we should worship Japanese people?
I believe there is a pre-existing condition/phenomena for that, it's called the anime addict. ^^
1448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My earlier google trend correlation still holding strong, crash predictable on: July 05, 2011, 04:40:59 AM
I was actually looking at the Google trend data for Bitcoin earlier today, and imo this trend definitely exists, there is a clear correlation, and it makes perfect sense, the OP explained it well. Bitcoin is a virtual commodity, one would expect supply and demand to play a significant role in the value of BTC. Google trends gives a very powerful way of measuring the growing popularity of Bitcoin. Such a drastic and sudden dip in the trend data was obviously caused by something other than chance imo, and that something was probably the Mt. Gox crash. A lot of miners got out, a lot of investors got out, and a lot of interest was washed way in the overall process. We can all thank Mt. Gox for this imo. I will never use their exchange, so help me god.
1449  Other / Politics & Society / The Matrix on: July 05, 2011, 01:38:53 AM
This is a really good poem about the matrix we live in. It's a few years old now but it deserves a look for those of you who haven't seen it. You'll be impressed. I'm not sure if it's possible to embed YouTube videos on here, so here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P01ZxSb3SZM
1450  Economy / Economics / Re: Why bitcoins are dropping, and will continue to do so on: July 05, 2011, 01:23:07 AM
^Yes, that is what BTC is for. Mine it, sell it, profit REAL money and not virtual worthless currency.
Please explain why it is more worthless than a currency which can be continually created from thin air and injected into the money pool whenever a minority decide upon it. The real worthless currency is one which is completely centralized and heavily taxed. The real worthless currency is one which can be produced en mass from paper grown on trees. That's right, money does grow on trees.

Actually money (US money at least) is made from cotton.
And what is cotton made from? Plants? Ok, money grows on plants. Haha.

1.  Investment.  Nope.  Not in any real amounts.  Investors like security and the bitcoin is pretty much the opposite of secure.  They also like secure exchanges and the bitcoin exchanges are pretty shady compared to mainstream exchanges.  That is kind of an understatement really.
It may not be completely reliable, but it offers a staggering degree of potential profit. And VirWoX is very trusted. If you really want security (and the ability to use PayPal), then VirWoX is a valid choice, but the fees will probably be higher.
1453  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [IMO] The Holiday Weekend Bear Market Was Intentionally Planned To Approach $10 on: July 05, 2011, 12:06:16 AM
I don't really know if it was planned, but I'm loving it.   Grin
1454  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: bitfreak.info - about bitcoin, mining info, merchant resources, news etc on: July 04, 2011, 10:58:51 PM
We now have a new domain name! bitfreak.co.cc is now bitfreak.info

Why the change?

Well you see, Google, in all their wisdom, has decided to filter out EVERY SINGLE co.cc website from their search results.
As a result, we have been forced to purchase a new domain for bitfreak. So in conclusion, googlesucksballs.co.cc.

1458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you really believe Satoshi is real?? on: July 04, 2011, 06:53:15 PM
with that huge amount of btc sitting around... (the stolen ones), maybe just maybe... the govt has it Smiley and they simply announced the BTC was stolen, or they stole it themselves.
VERY interesting post sir, my sort of stuff. I didn't know TOR was made and funded by the Government. Can anyone else back-up that statement? But as for the statement I quoted above, it made an interesting thought pop into my head. I read not long ago that the richest Bitcoin user (assuming they only had one account) was holding EXACTLY 250,000 BTC. Considering about six and half mill is in existence now, and only 21 mill will ever exist, that is a mind-boggling amount of BTC. And quite honestly, one of the biggest fears I have about Bitcoin.

You may want to check out this list of Bitcoin websites I'm putting together: Bitcoin Sites. And by all means, add any good websites you know about.
