1501  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: EasyCrypt: secure your wallet.dat and other sensitive files on: July 02, 2011, 12:55:05 AM
You should probably rename this to avoid confusion:
Haha. Oh, damn. I can't be bothered changing it now.   Undecided
That is called "Easy Crypt". mine is called "EasyCrypt". See the difference?  Grin
1502  Bitcoin / Project Development / WetCoin.co.cc - bitcoin porn, instant video downloads, no membership required on: July 01, 2011, 02:34:31 AM
I thought I should create a separate announcement thread for this website (I did mention it in my bitfreak announcement) because my link has been removed from the trade page on the wiki (because people don't want bots to associate their websites with porn; absurd). 99% of my incoming traffic was from that page so it's a little bit annoying.

WetCoin is an adult orientated website where users can pay a small amount of BTC (using the MyBitcoin payment gateway) for access to instant video downloads. You don't need to register, so you remain completely anonymous. Your download links will expire after two days.

WetCoin

WETCOIN HAS SHUT DOWN - It was a fun little experiment while it lasted.
1503  Bitcoin / Project Development / EasyCrypt: secure your wallet.dat and other sensitive files on: June 30, 2011, 11:44:03 PM
EasyCrypt enables easy and efficient encryption of any file. All you encrypted files are stored in a list (aka the vault) where you have the option quickly decrypt any selected file. This application is useful for encrypting your Bitcoin wallet file, but it can encrypt anything.

EasyCrypt will NOT delete the original files from your computer. If you wish to delete the original files it is recommended that you use a good shredding application. Idealy you should also create a backup of the original file and save it to a secure external storage device.

1504  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Wanted: Application to print your own Bitcoin Money on: June 30, 2011, 10:25:41 AM
Here's a better idea:

 A website where you deposit BTC and in return you get a code which is linked to those funds. So that code can basically be redeemed on the same website by anyone. The code doesn't even need to be physcially written down onto paper, it could be saved into your phone too.

But both methods have the same problems. Anyone can easily create fake codes/notes and pretend they are real. Like you say, they will need to have the necessary technology. So it's viable for businesses who will most likely always have internet access, but not for small trades between people.

Put simply, you cant use the bitcoin codes/notes like normal money, which requires no verification because the notes are hard enough to forge that people assume it is going to be real if it looks real.
1505  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Proactive engagement (anti-government types: ignore this thread) on: June 30, 2011, 04:15:37 AM
All this being nice and shit - road to nowhere - they will dump you when good time will come for them...

Stand what you are and see who joins you - they are friends - talk to them
Do you really think that is a successful strategy? The more we make this into a war between opposing forces (bitcoiners and bithaters), the more at risk Bitcoin will become. Instead the best course of action clearly is to befriend the enemy and avoid unneeded friction. If you act nervous or defensive then stronger forces might naturally give chase. If we teach them why Bitcoin is viable as an online currency instead of trying to force them to accept, the chances for Bitcoins success are much greater.

1506  Bitcoin / Project Development / BTC Currency Calculator [Delphi 7 - Full Source] on: June 29, 2011, 10:48:17 AM
I looked around for a decent BTC currency calculator/conversion app but there didn't seem to be any so I took the chance to waste some time and create something a little bit more user friendly and also flexible enough to cater for more advanced users. I won't bother writing up 10 paragraphs on it because I've wasted most of my day on it and the picture basically makes it clear (it also has an inbuilt help file). It uses the bitcoincharts.com weighted prices for calculations (source URL can be changed in settings but must return jSON data formatted exactly like bitcoincharts).

1507  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Non-Poll: How would you Explain Bitcoin to a 7 year old Child? on: June 28, 2011, 07:57:21 AM
I think the ipad generation of today (7 year olds) can very well understand things like bitcoin.

A much harder question would be how to explain bitcoin to 70 year olds. :->
Indeed. I think you are fairly correct on that point. Young children don't need to know the technical aspects of Bitcoin anyway. Old people just see it as imaginary make believe money with no real value, not realizing that all their regular money exists on computers as serials and other numbers. Bitcoin could be printed to paper, it would simply require an intermediary to secure the funds and generate a unique note which can only be used redeemed once. But that is entirely wasteful and inefficient, instead you could just put the data onto a CD or onto a memory stick instead of onto paper. That way the physical device for containing and trading Bitcoins can be reused easily.

EDIT: Now that I think about it...that probably wouldn't work because you could easily make a copy of the note/data and redeem it quickly after trading it to someone else.  Undecided I'm sure this has been discussed a lot on here already...but there has to be a way to do it. I guess it would have all the same problems of money forgery, but it would be a lot easier since you don't have extremely complex notes that have hardcore oversight by banks and government.
1508  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Am I Encrypting Right? on: June 28, 2011, 07:20:40 AM

Or you could just use www.encryptfiles.net

It gives you the option to delete or shred when you encrypt Smiley

I would not use/goto www.encryptfiles.net

It has a bad rep on WOT. See http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/www.encryptfiles.net for details.
That's because people seem to think it's a trojan due to warnings by their anti-virus software. I would guess they are simply false-positives due to the nature of the software. I don't think I've used it before though.

Glad to see you found it useful. I couldn't really see anything like this on the forums so I decided to share.  Wink

Coming soon with public shares available for trade @https://glbse.com/
Great domain name dude, though I guess it was the obvious choice. coincam.com could have worked too though.

I am looking to buy $100 USD worth of Bitcoins with PayPal at $15 per Bitcoin. I will pay first but you must have very good and provable feedback/ratings from several sources. PM if interested.
1513  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Google Apps and MTGox Trade Data on: June 27, 2011, 07:50:39 AM
Glad to see you got it solved. It had me stumped for a a while too. I have no idea why Mt. Gox have made it so hard to use their API.
1514  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Google Apps and MTGox Trade Data on: June 27, 2011, 07:02:28 AM
EDIT: I'm not sure what you're trying to do but you might want to check out this thread: http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=22886

Mt. Gox recently changed their API and it seems a user-agent now needs to be specified.
Try using cURL:

Code:
function mtgox_trade_data($json_url) {

  // Initializing curl
  $ch = curl_init();

  // Setting curl options
  curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $json_url);
  curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
  curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, false);
  curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_USERAGENT, "php bot");

  // Getting jSON result string
  $result = curl_exec($ch);

  // close curl and json file
  curl_close($ch);

  // return cURL result
  return $result;

}

Then you can save the result to an associative array like this:

Code:
$json_result = mtgox_trade_data($mtgox_ticker_url);

if (!empty($json_result)) {
  $mt_gox_ticker = json_decode($json_result, true);
}

// use array like this: $mt_gox_ticker['ticker']['sell'];

Jessy Kang explained that BTC isn't good for porn sites because most of their income is from recurring subscriptions.  She's talking about that $1 trial which rolls over to $25 the next day when you forget to cancel.

This highlights the difference between paying with bitcoin and paying with a credit card.  When you pay with bitcoin the merchant doesn't get the private key to your wallet.  When you pay with a credit card you give the private key (the cc number) to the merchant.
I feel like it's a good thing that merchants can't simply set up automatic deductions from your account. All the transactions must be verified by you. WetCoin.co.cc follows the bitcoin spirit by simply requiring a quick one time payment for each video. It's much easier because it means no membership is required and users can simply browse through the selection and pick what they want, without giving out any of their personal information.

Only thing I'm not sure about is how  "instant access" could be worked out due to bitcoins needing a bit of time to get confirmed - that is a huge deal.
Transactions should never take more than a few minutes as long as you send a reasonable transaction fee. It's quite quick and efficient if you use the MyBitcoin payment gateway, similar to paypal.

It's looks very good so far! Nice design and I like the help information, that was really informative. Bookmarked.

1.  Myth: Bitcoins are untraceable.

Uh..  come again?  Bitcoins are the most traceable currency ever developed.  Take a look at the bitcoinmonitor or the block explorer.  Ever see anything like that before with any other currency?  Every coin can be traced back to it's creation and through all it's chain of owners' public keys.  Yes, it is true that there are ways to obscure your tracks.. just as there are for US dollars.
Interesting post. The whole part about bitcoin being anonymous really confused me at first. Cash can be traced in certain ways, but in general bitcoin is probably less anonymous than cash unless you take the right precautions. I think the real fear law enforcement have, is that it can be sent to anyone in the world instantly and it's virtually impossible to freeze the funds when they exist as bitcoins. It opens up some new avenues for crime profiteering, but I really think people are over-exaggerating the seriousness of it.
1518  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Getting porn sites to accept bitcoin on: June 27, 2011, 12:04:12 AM
There is even a guy in the forum that owns a porn site focused on BTC, i think he goes by the site's name "BTCPorn" or somthing along that line.
Haha. I'm the new porn guy in town pal.  Cheesy
That other website is hardly a porn website if you ask me.

Not a single site ask proofs of age
Porn sites just ask people to promise they are over 18
Exactly, because they can always lie anyway.
1519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Getting porn sites to accept bitcoin on: June 26, 2011, 11:32:11 PM
Edit2: yes age verification is also an issue, although there is a huge abundance of free hardcore sites that at this time I don't know if that matters as much.
If you are a porn producer then you are required to keep the correct records of your models. But your customers simply have to agree to the terms of using the website (which would include being 18 or over). That's all you need as far as I know.
1520  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Getting porn sites to accept bitcoin on: June 26, 2011, 11:11:07 PM
Guys, please. Get a hold of your selves...I am already on the case. Ninja style. Grin
