21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just got "account claim successful" from Mt Gox - anyone else? on: June 24, 2011, 10:25:24 AM
the email briefly said that mt gox has reopened my account and gave me a link to go to and test my new password.

it also said that the site will be back up tomorrow.

just got this email 30 seconds ago - you too?

Worked for us too, given 4 details
22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Information for MtGox Confirmation Acceptance on: June 24, 2011, 10:24:49 AM
Ok, so I just got my confirmation email saying they have accepted my claim request.

The information I sent them included:

-Dwolla ID#
-IP when account created/Most commonly used IP
-Account Balance

*Side note*
For people who only put in Bitcoins from mining and have not withdrawn from MtGox. I suggest you included Bitcoin Deposit Address, i.e. the wallet address you used to send them the Bitcoins, to confirm.

Our account was also reclaimed successfully eventually. 4 Details where given.
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt. Gox needs to give more time between reopening and starting trading. on: June 23, 2011, 10:20:07 PM
I thought they said it would 24 hours between opening their site back up and allowing trades?  Now it is one hour.

I agree,

it should be 24 hours between allowing people to login, and resuming trading.

ALSO, it would seem the reclaiming process is going slowly. Noone yet got account saying that their claim was accepted it seems, or very few people (<98% according to pool)

24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MtGox claim site is up! Everyone who claimed say haaaay ... on: June 23, 2011, 08:23:31 PM
Good thing they are pretty much anonymous. If I were one of them, I'd be afraid to be held liable.

26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Public Key Infrastructure on: June 23, 2011, 07:05:09 PM
If we implemented a simple 'send from address' to login all you would need to do is send a random amount of small coinage to the forum server.  The server can check if you own that address or not; then send it back to you.  Grin

Paste public key to the website,
then website shows you a one-time bitcoin address and some random ~0.01xxxxxxxxx btc amount,
you make that transfer and then your public key is recognized.

With keys established, actually, all one would need to do is to sign/decrypt all http requests.

RFC for http-pgp, anyone? Smiley  It would be more then http://gpgauth.org/projects/gpgAuth/ which appears to be just for login (thanks for the link above)

28  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: my linux box was hacked today and almost 400 BTC were stolen! on: June 23, 2011, 02:31:34 AM

29  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Visa and Banks After BTC on: June 23, 2011, 01:13:31 AM
Do your sources hand out tin foil hats along with this sort of information?  Just curious.

Yea, Banks and alike are known to be always trustworthy and never have any scandals related to lying, cheating, stealing, etc.

-EDITED-

Bitcoin is small now, but every big thing was small at some point. Why wait until it becomes unstoppable years later?
30  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 8:09 am in japan! on: June 22, 2011, 11:28:21 PM
will today we get our accounts back?

pretty please??

Also, who will compensate.

I propose:
1 BTC (because email+password leaked to internet etc)
+ 1% of account balance at rollback point (USD/17 + BTC) for the stress of loosing all money
+ 1% of account balance per day waiting  of lost interest

And Kevin DAY should get imo like 50% of monthly mtgox profit (last month) because he saved their ass - what if otherwise hackers would be taking out not 600 but 600 BTC x 100 accounts?

31  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: (live - update!) mtgox claim - worked for you? on: June 22, 2011, 11:02:00 PM

Oh well that explains it - MagicalTux (mtgox) ment that 10% of people used the request claim form.

[00:59:20] <MagicalTux> xelister: I mean that more than 10% of all the accounts on mtgox have made a request
[00:59:27] <MagicalTux> we got over 11000 requests now
[00:59:34] <xelister> MagicalTux: everyone totally missunderstood you.
[00:59:39] <MagicalTux> xelister: I guess so

37  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / LolzSecurity(?) takes over mtgox IRC channel #mtgox and announces on: June 22, 2011, 09:22:25 PM
(edited - summary)

#mtgox IRC (freenode.org) channel was created at least 2 weeks ago
MtGox was using #mtgox as sort of official channel - talking to users there and all
#mtgox was taken over by user LulzSecurity few  hours ago
Now (21:00 UTC, 2011-06-22) LulzSecurity made a bit of a show and statement.

Since tweet was not send out (yet?) by http://twitter.com/#!/lulzsec people say it was a hoax.

Still... this is what I ment by damn security culture MT GOX you administrate(d) milions of USD,
and you do not do basic stuff, like say make sure you are founder of #mtgox (or boycott it and steart ##mtgox alternative while it resolves?)

What if someone would there get OPs and pretended to be support of mtgox and social engeenering steal more information from users that went there for support?!?!?

Your serives where nice and all but seriously, security is something you do not have, can you really acquire it?! Please?!

and the service will be better in terms of communication because of less angry locusts

It is like saying that Sony will be most secure company ever because they got hacked.

Security is not an overnight thing, it is a culture. You don't do it by hiring 10 "consultants" or even developers.

Heaving said that,
Mtgox does use OpenPGP in emails, which is a nice sign of professionalism.

(but the fuckup with md5, sql injections, CSRF and 'auditor' ...  Roll Eyes

Here's a question - has anyone who has submitted a support ticket in the last day received a response of any kind? Other than an automated one?
