161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Where is the address book tab on bitcoin-qt? on: August 01, 2014, 04:50:36 AM
I don't see the address book tab anywhere on the bitcoin-qt.

Can anyone tell me what happened to it? It sucks not being able to see my addresses.

You can see you addresses if you open "Receive" tab and then select "Reuse an existing address (not recommended)"  and click "Request payment".
162  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Rockminer R-box issue on: July 31, 2014, 07:05:12 AM
It is a Rockminer's workaround for lost tasks by resending them:

Code:
// A task completed, but no request followed
// This means it missed our last task send, so we need to resend it

You can read full code from here: https://gitorious.org/bitcoin/bfgminer/commit/09c3f36c71e8977fa7817ee3d6aa1e6037bc149f

So if you do not get "Failed to resend work" messages I think your mining in is still working ok.
163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoin-0.9.2-linux , "error: server returned HTTP error 403" on: July 31, 2014, 04:40:21 AM
nope.

i've even tried

Code:
bitcoind -rpcuser=some -rpcpassword=else

and then

Code:
 bitcoin-cli -rpcuser=some -rpcpassword=else getinfo

and it fails

You can try

Code:
bitcoind -rpcuser=some -rpcpassword=else -rpcallowip=MYIP

Replace MYIP with you ip or network address.

Or use ip: https://184.154.49.3/
165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EXCHANGE] Poloniex - Crypto Exchange with BTC/NXT on: July 30, 2014, 08:58:53 AM
It will take some time to propagate the new ip to all nameservers. If you know the new ip you can check the propagation status from this page: http://dnspropagationcheck.com/

It is propagated now:

Lookup Details:    poloniex.com A record
Expected Result:    184.154.49.3
Status: SUCCEEDED

Poloniex closed? Is this the end?

From Twitter: "Domain name transfer is taking longer than expected. The site could be unreachable for another 30 minutes"

168  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Tracking on the web on: July 29, 2014, 08:39:44 AM

Of course you still need Tor and a bunch of other anti-tracking solutions where possible.

Good firewall, MAC spoofing and computer name randomization do not harm either.
169  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anyone following the ebola outbreak? on: July 29, 2014, 06:35:49 AM
According WHO there are 786 confirmed cases (as of 20 July 2014) which is not so much. But 442 of them have already died which is quite scary. And in addition there are 201 probable cases with even higher death rate, 174 deaths.

WHO just published new numbers (as of 23 July 2014): 814 confirmed (456 deaths), 239 probable (182 deaths). So it is still spreading, mostly in Sierra Leone.

I see greenhouse theory more like as a combination of bad science, politics and hype.

It is true that Earth has been warming over the last 50 years, but it is not clear what effect carbon dioxide has to that. And now there are some signs that warming has already stopped. For example if you look this picture: http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/antarctic.sea.ice.interactive.html  you can see that in the Antartic there are now more ice than ever. Also the Artic ice has started slowly recover: http://www.iup.uni-bremen.de:8084/amsr2/extent_n_running_mean_amsr2_regular.png
171  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please help to solve: "EXCEPTION: 13leveldb_error" on: July 28, 2014, 05:38:03 PM
It looks like that your antivirus software detects a false positive in blockchain datafile. At least Avira and Microsoft Security Essentials have done so ealier.

Can you configure your AV so that it checks only executables but not datafiles?

Fever can kill? Learn something new everyday.

It is a nasty virus with no cure. It causes vomiting, diarrhoea, rash, impaired kidney and liver function, bleeding and kills most of the patients.

Earned, one referral 37 the second 19. 2014-07-27 12:01:31 0.00000000 19 2014-07-27 17:01:45

Payments start from 0.0001 BTC so you need to earn more before you can get your payment.
175  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Attn: Human Influenced Climate Change deniers on: July 28, 2014, 09:39:23 AM
The climate is not stable, it is always changing. For example in Antartic there is now lot of ice and extremely cold:

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2014/07/12/coldest-antarctic-june-ever-recorded/
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2681829/Global-warming-latest-Amount-Antarctic-sea-ice-hits-new-record-high.html

Ice reflects the Sun’s rays up into the atmosphere and out to space, which keeps solar radiation from warming the Antartic so it is possible that we are going to see even more cold (and more ice) in near future.
176  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Free Faucets with Payment proof on: July 28, 2014, 04:38:36 AM
A lot of them do pay out, but when they do it's peanut dust and very rarely worth your time.

Exactly...takes a considerably long time to collect anything of considerable worth. Say you earn 2500 stats per day (that's on a good day) for a whole year
365 x 2500. = 912500 satoshis (0.0091250BTC) just shy of around $5/$6

Faucets don't exist to provide you with a viable income. Use them if you want to, if not - don't.

They exist to give you extra coin, but what's the point when you earn $5 a year?

Many of those faucets have a referral system, so you can earn much more if you manage get a lot referrals. Also in poor countries there are people who earn less than $1 per day. To them $5 can be a week's salary.
177  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Where do I get free Bitcoin? The maintained list of verified free Bitcoin Sites. on: July 27, 2014, 02:27:11 PM

Luckychekin is a faucet that gives free bitcoin, I've been registered since june 2014 and been paid twice. It's completely free, we receive bitcoins corresponding to matched parts of check in time

The referral system is also quite generous, you'll get  50% of earnings of your referrals. I can also confirm this month's payout.
178  Other / Off-topic / Re: Proxy/VPN/Tor detection on: July 27, 2014, 06:22:05 AM

If you actually read the paper it covers 'Tor', 'PHPProxy', 'Glype', etc. Not VPNs.

Patterns/triggers won't detect VPNs. You need an up to date, curated list for them.

I think IPHub.info has such a list but unfortunately I have no idea how accurate it is.
179  Other / Off-topic / Re: Proxy/VPN/Tor detection on: July 27, 2014, 05:03:37 AM
This paper also describes some basic methods for proxy detection: https://www.sans.org/reading-room/whitepapers/detection/detecting-preventing-anonymous-proxy-usage-32943
