21  Other / Obsolete (selling) / scammers posting other people's heatware... on: June 09, 2011, 02:03:35 PM
and trying to pass it off as their own, this is a common practice people, do your homework, if someone posts an ad and references a specific heatware account make sure the email you get originates from that account, if they say "this is just another account I use more often" or something, tell them that you will email them at their heatware email and to respond using that email...

I had this happen and it was pretty easy to figure out it was a scam...

- I checked the heatware posted in the listing and sent an email to the email account registered with heatware (the linked account had over 1,200 positive evals) , no response for 3 or 4 hours...
- I then contacted directly through the ad (Bitcoin Classifieds) and voila, minutes later I get an email from a different email account..
- red flags...
1. the first name was spelled differently...
2. the last name was totally different, not even close...
3. I traced the ip to Washington (state, not DC), the heatware account listed Georgia as the state of residence...

- I asked why the email account was different than the one registered to heatware and told him/her I would email the heatware registered account to make sure the account belonged to him/her...
- still no response from the heatware registered email account (the real account user is probably wondering wtf I'm talking about in the eamils...lol)...

be careful people, if a deal is too good to be true...well, you know the rest...
22  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to contact Mt. Gox?!! Money lost [so far]!!! on: June 08, 2011, 12:24:47 PM
I received this email today.  I don't know if it was due to them finally getting to my email(s) or seeing the the discussion in these forums.

Quote
These funds have been reprocessed and should be in your account shortly. We apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience.

Not in my account yet, but frankly I would expect that if they just reprocessed.

So you got a response in less than 48 hours from your initial email? I'd say that's pretty good compared to most "professional" businesses.

I disagree.  I can call my bank, go to my bank and get an answer immediately ... or get transferred around a lot.  Same for my brokerage.  There is no calling Mt. Gox.  I have used online functions for payment issues with my bank and I get a response if not a phone call very quickly; within a business day.

My point; they is running a commodities trading service, also acts as the brokerage and has no means of contact other than email and no system in place to dispute.  I am pretty confident that if I had never emailed my funds would have stayed in their account forever [thus assuming that I will get them after reprocessing].

and how long has your bank been doing business...? we all are breaking new ground here and are at the beginning of a process, a process that will have bumps to smooth out along the way, calm down and have some patience...
23  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: has anyone bought anything on Bitcoin Classifieds...? on: June 08, 2011, 11:19:41 AM
I left bad feedback (revealing the scammer) on the site and emailed the site admin and received an email the next day that the user and their ip has been banned, the "site" may actually be a decent place to do business, but "emily" sure wasn't a legit trader...

I may give it another shot, and just be more careful next time...
24  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: has anyone bought anything on Bitcoin Classifieds...? on: June 08, 2011, 03:00:45 AM
http://www.bitcoinclassifieds.net/

honestly, not many good deals, the only one I found was a scam (only 7 BTC lost, but still...), people are crazy, like 105BTC for a 5970, and IIRC 149 BTC for a 6990, again, be careful...

25  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: has anyone bought anything on Bitcoin Classifieds...? on: June 08, 2011, 12:40:24 AM
yeah, I noobed that deal all up...lol
26  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: has anyone bought anything on Bitcoin Classifieds...? on: June 08, 2011, 12:22:12 AM
yep, that site is swamped with at least one scammer, the exact same ad appeared again today, no wonder my card or a tracking # never came...lol, it even has the exact same picture, hopefully at least one person sees this and decides not to contact "emily", if that is even his/her real name...

this thread (and idea) is awesome, definitely deserves to be locked at the top of the forum so it never gets buried...
28  Economy / Trading Discussion / has anyone bought anything on Bitcoin Classifieds...? on: June 07, 2011, 03:49:40 AM
or is it like a haven for scammers...? I wanted to try it out and sent 7 bitcoins for a 5850, I only had 7 bitcoins and after a few emails they decided that 7 was enough, lol, that should've been my first red flag on the deal, I was promised tracking info Monday and have yet to receive an email, did anyone else fall for this ad...? XFX 5850 with an egg cooler (shroud was removed), or was I the only noob that fell for it...? lol...

while this one says 9 BTC, the original ad (same picture) I responded to a day or two earlier started out at 10 BTC with 1 BTC shipping anywhere in the states and 2 BTC for shipping to Canada, I should've known something was up because it was the only reasonable posting in the classifieds given the exchange rate at the time...
29  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Deepbit Approaching 50% Once Again on: June 05, 2011, 02:07:53 PM
Wow, so a 24 hour loan is worth that much to you? I thought people were smarter than that

worth what...? the 7% fee...? yep, I'll still get more paying a 7% fee on a larger amount than I will paying a 2.5% fee on a much smaller amount, or maybe I just don't get it...? that is just my assumption, care to explain...? I'm pretty new to this, but the bottom line numbers seem to speak for themselves imo...
30  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Deepbit Approaching 50% Once Again on: June 05, 2011, 01:28:13 PM
Hey guys, just wanted to point out some (somewhat unsettling) stats again:
Deepbit is approaching 50% of the hashing power once again  Undecided

While I dont have any beef with the operator of Deepbit ([Tycho] I believe), I have a beef with the security of our beloved Bitcoin.
As most of us know, the blockchain is secure as long as nobody controls more than or equal to 50% of the total hashing power of the network.
Deepbit seems to be ~40 percent, and has been climbing due to the massive influx of new miners and hardware. I'm not OK with that (Nothing personal, Tycho).

I suggest that those on Deepbit should switch to other, smaller pools, or some of the more powerful miners at least divert some of their resources to other pools to maintain a good hashing distribution equilibrium.
<advertisement>Furthermore, I would like to put in a plug forhttp://www.Bitcoins.lc; they are a 0% fee pool supporting long polling. Check em out. </advertisement>

Here is a chart of the current distribution:

Thanks for reading and supporting the security of Bitcoin Grin

during the time Deepbit was down a week or so ago I went to BTC Guild and Slush's pool IIRC, and mined there while Deepbit was down, what a fuckmess, for the hours (probably a couple hours on each pool) I put in I got zero payout, ZERO, fuck that shit, my payout balance goes up every hour on Deepbit, so if Deepbit is where I can get "paid" (so to speak) that's where I'll mine...
31  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: New CPU&GPU Miner [beta-testing] +30% effeciency on: June 04, 2011, 03:07:52 PM
If you want to deny the webmaster further employment anytime soon just report him to the church.

It's obvious the church itself hasn't gone "evangelizing" about a cryptocurrency efficiency improving client on random forums.

Then again, could just be a malicious injection (based on this person's posts he doesn't even seem like a native English speaker), but should be easy enough to detect in server logs.

what kind of "church" is this...? they have services one day a week (Sat 4:30pm-6:00pm) for an hour and a half...? lolololololol
32  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: I don't know what's going on... on: June 04, 2011, 02:51:08 AM
but I'm pissed...

I just had an automatic payout take .99 BTC out of my Deepbit balance (~roughly a half hour ago) and it's not showing up in my wallet, where is it...? I don't have a bunch of video cards and only get about 400+ MH/s, so that is a lot for me, especially if the payouts for my contributions to the pool are getting stolen...

Sometimes they take a minute to confirm, give it time, it'll show up.

that's the thing, when it's unconfirmed it still shows up within minutes, but as "unconfirmed", this time nothing, nothing for a long time (~30 or so minutes), that was weird...

34  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Best PSU to buy? on: June 03, 2011, 11:54:10 AM
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/750-watt-psu-80-plus-gold,2927.html

FSP AU-700 is what I'd buy after reading that review.

not for four 6990s you wouldn't, or at least I hope you wouldn't...lol
35  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ATI HD 6670 Series - anyone got hashrate data? on: June 03, 2011, 11:48:38 AM
When looking at 80 MH/s for a 6570 @650 MHz, a 800 MHz 6670 should be doing 100 MH/s (it seems like they can only be overclocked to 900 MHz leading to a max. hashing performance of ~ 110 MH/s)

At a consumption of ~80-90W per hour this leads to:

Hashrate stock: 100 MH/s
Hashrate overclocked: 110 MH/s
Watts stock: 80W (est.)
Watts overclocked: 90W (est.)
Price active cooled: ~70 EUR
Price passive cooled: ~80 EUR

Ratios for overclocked versions:
MH/EUR passive: 1.6
MH/EUR active: 1.4
MH/Watt: 1.2

For comparison a 170 EUR 5870 at 400MH/s and 200W has:
MH/EUR: 2,35
MH/Watt: 2

But is much louder and bigger on the other hand...

shouldn't the passively cooled be cheaper...?
36  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Motherboards, multiple gpu's on: June 03, 2011, 02:02:38 AM
I've been looking for a motherboard that would let me have two gpu's for mining (6950's) although it will have to be decent as it is a pc that I use for gaming.

So my question is, does the fact that 1 slot may be x16 but running at x8 make that much of a difference (if any) as the only motherboards that don't are £150 plus ($250)

Here's a couple that I've came across, tell me what you think

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/193443
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/255175

Also if those are no good, or you think there may be ones that are cheaper that may be usefull could you please post a link?
You could just get a motherboard with a 16x and a 1x and use an extender on the 1x to connect to a second card.
For mining purposes, mining through a 1x gives the same hashrate.

You can get said PCIE extender from Cablesaurus in the marketplace forum if you so desire.

or you could get it on ebay for half the price...
37  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: how much can i sell a sapphire 5850 xtreme for? on: June 03, 2011, 02:01:03 AM
yep, there are other forums where you can get video cards, and I've seen two in the last week or so go for $115 shipped, I wouldn't pay more than $125, if it came down to it a 5830 can be had for $110 shipped BNIB, and you can get almost as many MH/s with that, but the power draw would be a bit more...
38  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA Inflection Point on: June 02, 2011, 02:41:56 PM
3 x 5830 = $320
Motherboard = $100
Power Supply = $50
Processor = $30

Total = $500

hard drive? memory?

USB = $1

Cheap Memory = $10.

You people are ridiculous.

$50 for a quality PSU that can support 600w+...? who's being ridiculous here...? I have two really good 630w/650w PSUs and would definitely be nervous putting three 5830s on them, hell, even three 5850s (which use less power) would make me nervous...
