ANT S1 has the highest maintenance costs because they have a highpower consumption. So sell your S1 Ghs and buy more of S2 or even S3 etc. Wink

I only have S3 Hash power, I forgot to include that after having to repost.  Sad

I really don't understand the mentality of scammers, if indeed this is a scam, just saying in general. It would be far better to look at long term profits but then maybe scammers just want to steal quick BTC and not maintain and provide customer service with a site.

Other than the maintenance fee being off I have had no problems at all - I got my hash power pretty much instantly after my order was filled. I do not think it is a scam but they certainly lack any customer service it seems. I have not posted on their forums but I did open a support ticket. Weirdly enough as if it were a premonition, I asked about how maintenance fees were calculated before ordering any hash power. Maybe I should not have bothered at all. If it seems too good to be true then it probably is - as the saying goes. The maintenance fee for Antminer S3 just does not add up for me, unless I am being seriously dumb with my calc. but I doubt that.

Ugh, I have to retype everything again because this forum always says I posted x mins ago which I did NOT! I only logged in that time ago. Stupid! Can't they fix this?! I should have remembered to copy and paste here by now I guess.  Cry

I am used to the way CEX and PBMining calculate everything and it is simple to me but Snowball fees as advertised on their site and what I am being charged seem different.

1.1 TH or 1,100 GH - according to Snowball website I should be charged JPY/YEN 0.02/GHS/Day (Japanese Yen) per GH per day. At current exchange rates this works out at just over USD 0.21 cents but I am being charged 3.88222 USD according to my Snowball transaction statement. Not sure if I am missing something, miscalculating or if something is wrong with the site. Edit: Maybe the power cost is not included? This would make the site less transparent than ideal to say the least.

Any help explaining this is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

yes that are 'registered' as a limited company, but in the UK that basically mean the directors can 'try' and walk away, however they can be questioned about their activities.

the incorporation is anonymous. They paid about a thousand dollars using a digital e-currency to an anonymous skype vendor for the registration and SSL certificate. No ones real identity is attached to any of it who owns the program.

If they registered using false details and identification documents, etc then this constitutes a criminal offence. Also a Ponzi is money laundering whether it is using digital currency or not, numerous laws are broken by a Ponzi by itself including fraud and possibly conspiracy. If you suspect foul play then it can always be reported to the appropriate authorities, start with informing company’s house, greater London metropolitan police, UK cyber-crime police, crime stoppers, Europol, Interpol and any other appropriate agencies in your respective country and jurisdiction and they will work together if enough report it. At this time it could be too early to do this. If they used false documents and identities and were careful to cover their digital footprints (IP addresses and their internet connect among other things) then they may be difficult to trace and bring to justice. I have seen other Ponzi scheme criminals imprisoned, if the USA get involved they will extradite him and he would face a much more hefty long term prison sentence than in the UK/EU. Any crimes they determine committed will also not run concurrently as in the UK but consecutively. If he was found guilty of several crimes he would be facing 10-25 years or more in prison maybe...depends if the U.S. justice system is interested in getting involved and if they can recover the funds for their own treasury I guess.

I have known about two Ponzi scammers that worked together online and in person across Europe, one was held by Swedish justice under his own jurisdiction and the other one that was good at marketing suckers in for many years and leading them in with countless cover stories was extradited to the USA, he used numerous false identities and had a small team of employees working with him. I think they managed to steal/launder a few hundred million but I am not sure of the exact figure. In the case of the American government, they keep whatever money they recover, usually but the Swedish government were good to refund scammed victims if the money paper trail could be proven at every stage, where you got your money from to them all the way.

Maybe he will now try to payout some of the larger investors in the next couple of days and rip off the small time investors...who knows...he could just break them even. Then perhaps no bad karma will come to him. Will be interesting to see what happens here. Either way...justice can be slow to do its work so I am not holding out on that.

Let us know if you invested a substantial amount and managed to get paid.

I have a few ideas of how we may setup a fund for victims, but I am not sure how to organise it and we would need trusted, reputable users on here to participate. Maybe have an investment side to it so it is not merely sympathy donations which I doubt many if any will have time for.

I have Net framework 4.5.1 so think this could be the cause. Maybe I should downgrade. I had my suspicions when Microsoft said it was highly compatible as 4.5

I wasn't logged in either as was just testing it out.

5  Bitcoin / Armory / Help selecting senders address using Coin Control on: May 06, 2014, 04:06:36 PM
I don't use Coin Control but I do want to learn more of the inner workings of client and can see myself needing to use more advanced features. I want to determine which address is used for senders address, we already have deterministic features so we can have different receiving addresses. It would be nice to know how to properly use this so I can select which address for senders address.

When I open coin control in Armory all I see are 3 addresses with the funds in from my wallet. I thought I could actually select the sending address, maybe this is not supported at all and all is meant by selecting source if where the funds are...I don't see why this wouldn't be possible because new addresses are automatically created when sending Bitcoin using auto transaction features. I just want to be specific as to which address I use to send Bitcoin from. It is helpful not only for privacy but also when someone is expected Bitcoin from a specific address without me having to chase it up and explain to them it came from another address.

Instead the only option I see are the last 3 addresses that were generated/used by Armory. Is this all I have to choose from?
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Anyone heard of Hornet Machineries? on: February 22, 2014, 01:43:17 AM
Was looking at some Altcoin news and stumbled on this company (Hornet Machineries) but haven't been able to find much on them. http://www.hornetm.com

Claim to be based on London.

Does anyone know more than me on this?

Seems it could be a scam but I am not sayin that it is, just that it is easy to rent an office/place and not be legit.

Payment options available are LTC or BTC and depending on which you opt for you would save by paying in LTC.

LTC 800
or
BTC 24

For the 50Mh/s miner.

We all know it is just a matter of time before GPUs become extinct for mining scrypt.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GUIMiner-scrypt: A GUIMiner fork for mining scrypt chains on: February 04, 2014, 03:02:24 PM
tacotime; please help me with this. I sent you a PM but you are probably very busy to respond to all individual messages. I like GUI Miner a lot because it gives me a high hashrate, not sure if what the front end of GUI Miner displays is accurate and this is what i want to find out once and for all. I will be using CG Watcher do to this. I want troubleshoot some issues I have when running cgminer on its own and I would really appreciate help from someone that knows more how to use cgminer better than me, which won't be too difficult as I really am not good at command line entries as they have to be precisely exact in order to work and one single digit that is wrong will ensure its failure!

So I need to know which API port GUI Miner assigns to the cgminer instances? Anyone here can tell me this so I can connect to cgminer via CG Watcher and get an accurate reading of settings used by GUI Miner, I want to save the settings GUI Miner is using into a profile and then try a few different things to solve my problems. I am using the same settings I used in GUI Miner in standalone cgminer but I do not get the same results, so either cgminer is not as good without a decent front end, or, GUI Miner is reporting more optimistic hashrate and not showing any HW errors even if they are present. REALLY need HELP with this one, PLEASE!

I lso have no clue how to add fail over pools or temp cut off settings, etc, and yes I am aware this has been covered in this very thread but I simply do not understand how or where to add "flags" when no examples are shown to us within a full working profile for GUI Miner. For those that are more familiar with this sort of thing it is childs play for them and for most developers too, but most people are not that so do need tuts. It is easier to do in cgminer itself which is ironic in a way because GUI Miner with a GUI is supposed to make it all straight forward, surely? So I am not as hopeless as it may seem because I do find cgminer easy to configure on its own, to some extent at least. I want to switch to CG Watcher or just use cgminer alone for now until I manage to fix issues with BFG Miner or learn to use SG Miner. It seems none of these miners are perfect or work 100% as I would like them to but I need help in order to determine why this is. I have tuned all my thread-concurrency and intensity settings as much as I can and do get a decent hashrate but there are still some issues I need to fix. Sometimes I get too many rejects while running cgminer without GUI Miner or a few HW errors, even though I use the same settings and also get a lower hashrate. It could be due to several reasons and I won't know until I can better troubleshoot this by connecting to the API or knowing more about how GUI Miner works with its settings that are somewhat opaque or unknown in some areas. With all this said, I would like to support its continued development.

I have tried various API ports to connect t cgminer once GUI Miner is running but CG Watcher simply will not connct to it and I have been told by Justin it should do just fine once we know the API port GUI Miner uses.

I tend to agree, unless you are getting a good deal then you may want to go with the R9 270X's

https://litecoin.info/Mining_Hardware_Comparison Look here and elsewhere on forums and see what others are getting in a similar setup that you will be building, remember not to rush into this because once you buy the components it is done! And you can always be mining other alt coins than LTC by using coinchoose and http://manotechnology.blogspot.nl/p/cgwatcher.html if you prefer.

If you need to discuss anything else then post here and I am sure others will contribute.

Heat will be an issue if you have the GPUs in an enclosed space such as a case or confined area. You can use riser cards to extend cables so they are not in confined area and do not use a case if using air cooling unless you are sure you can build a good system with enough ventilation. If water cooling is out of your price range then you can use a desk fan for additional cooling of 10c-15c with additional noise levels. I would go with a higher powered PSU because you will get more use out of it in future either way or sell it on. Otherwise buy two cheaper 80+ rated PSUs and use build or buy something like "Add2PSU". Be prepared for heat, some people put their rigs in basements, garages or similar where it is cooler but check with manufacturers for minimum temperature range to avoid damage to capacitors, etc as excessive low temps may cause damage. Condensation is not a risk other than with liquid cooled systems in a warm environment, if doing that then ensure the cooling is not cooler than ambient room temp because you will cause condensation to build up.

You won't need much RAM, 4-6GB of RAM should be ok and CPU can be cheap low powered on and any boosting or OC can be disabled for CPU if not using PC for any other use than mining.

Edited for corrections and additional info: be sure to not allow GPUs to have temps over 90c as this will cause damage, try to keep within 75-80c range if possible while using air cooling.

Looking at the realistic predictions of BTC difficulty increases I can see that BTC ASIC mining will be a huge gamble for ROI for all entry miners at this point in time at this stage. The ASIC companies cannot keep up or it is not in their interests to do so (to sell upgrades).

Energy price does play a role but if you are going to mine regardless then it should not be a major concern for you if you are already a consumer that uses more energy than average, IMHO. Then you only have to be mining for speculation of rising BTC to $1,000 - $10,000 long term. 2 - 5 years. Of course a lot could happen by this time and another currency may have taken its place (unreal to think of now). The fact remains there are better coins than BTC that are more secure, have protection of 51% vulnerability and faster transaction time. But this also depends on how fast people are on the uptake of this knowledge and BTC may well win because we know the best does not always win but the most popular and liquid one will be used and as a result hold more value with more demand. Having said this the alt coins will follow eventually but they will lag behind. Just a prediction in my opinion and I could well be wrong. Many things can happen that do and have affect prices, just as they do with Forex and Stock markets with geopolitics, only with Crypt currencies the fundamentals vary slightly in the way they influence the market.

http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/a/c1b816e7f5

If you got your machine earlier than New Year - 2014 you will be better off otherwise you will likely make a loss mining - so can keep mining for speculative purposes until difficulty increases make this undesirable. IMO, the get rich quick days for early adopters of BTC mining is over unless a tech company can far more out perform current ASIC technologies - lower costs. Of course it is meant to be this way inherently so no single central entity can amass a majority share. Perhaps trading is better to earn a ROI from, I think you will find it is.

Good luck everyone! Even the most ethical (I use the term loosely for want of a better name = opportunists?) ASIC companies that allow escrow payments and have insurance against difficulty increases will not likely net you a profit.
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: November 07, 2013, 02:19:28 AM
there simply will never be enough of them for this ever to become a true currency, or to be used in any major way for currency exchange.
This has been addressed a thousand times

I'm fairly new to all this, and haven't found those discussions. But I guarantee you, that people aren't going to be buying a house with their .000256 bitcoins even if they are valued at $10,000,000,000 each.

Not sure why they wouldn't, ppl already buy hotel rooms with bitcoin...hotel room = house for one night

Agreed. As long as there are sellers willing to accept BTC then they will sell any number of different things for more as an investment or just a payment method.

My second post on this forum. How many posts until I can post in more interesting or non newbie category threads?

The seller is located in US then the EU regulations won't apply on him.

No minimum time warranty in USA?

CORRECT!

Quote
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson%E2%80%93Moss_Warranty_Act

The statute is remedial in nature and is intended to protect consumers from deceptive warranty practices. Consumer products are not required to have warranties, but if one is given, it must comply with the Magnuson-Moss Act.

I imagine the only persons to have any rights in this area or anything similarly related in USA are corporate persons!  Grin

ALSO: Please re-read their terms and conditions. They reduced the warranty further, if my eyes can read correctly.
