This phone is what I'm talking about when I say super cheap nokia:

http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/5/7493291/Microsoft-nokia-215-cheapest-internet-phone

Quote
"It costs just $29 pre-tax and is aimed at emerging markets, offering customers 29 days of battery life on standby, a dual-SIM option, a built-in torch, and FM Radio. There's also a 2.4-inch, 320 x 240 display, a 0.3-megapixel camera, and Bluetooth connectivity. Crucially, however, Microsoft say the 215 is their "most affordable Internet-ready entry-level phone yet," offering the Opera Mini mobile browser and a limited array of pre-installed apps including Twitter, Facebook, Messenger, and Bing Search."
I guess we'll have to see if it takes off. Our feedback is that people are moving to Android (and iOS). This Microsoft phone might be a bit late to market, but if it garners mass adoption then we'll we'll definitely look into it.

Awesome.

The mozilla and firefox phones also look quite promising for African markets;
http://www.ubuntu.com/phone
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/os/#adaptive-wrapper

I hope these are also considered if they start to catch on in Africa.

EDIT: https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2014/11/04/mozilla-and-gsma-enabling-locally-relevant-content-for-the-next-4-billion-people/
You can see from this link that Mozilla has real long term goals when it comes to third world countries; having Kobocoin be available in some form on these phones could easily propel it into the market.
Thanks for that info. Very interesting reading (especially the third link). This is why we are looking at the mobile market as a whole. Things seems to be evolving, and 2015 is earmarked as a year of growth for mobile transactions.

Is the wallet staking or not? It is showing network weight 0 and time to reward 0 seconds?

Is this right?

It seems that POS and POW are not running together. This means that the full complement of planned POW coins (43,200,000) will be issued and that POS will probably kick in after the last POW block as of 43201.
Yes, that's correct.

  • What has the biggest market share in the mobile space in Western Africa? (i.e. Android, iPhone etc)
  • Will Kobocoin target super cheap phones (i.e. the recent Nokia phone that is $37 and can use the internet?) as well as a wide variety of android devices (i.e. wide adoption)?
  • What solution will Kobocoin be implementing to help mobile users? Will you be submitting the coin to preexisting, free wallets such as Coinomi on Android?
Hi, we're not really differentiating between Operating Systems. There's already a wallet developed for Symbian (another coin) so it can be done. At this moment we want to get Android and iOS out (Android this week, hopefully iOS by the end of the month). If a Symbian wallet is also required, then it will be developed. Same for BlackBerryOS.

We'd like to get kobocoins onto as many services and platforms as possible. There are many options, but right now the priority is getting kobocoin onto the exchanges.

Woke up to a positive reply from Bittrex. Not sure we're any closer to a listing (I've asked for clarification) but there's now a communication channel.

It's 2.45am here and I've been awake for almost 40 hours. I'm off to bed. I hope everyone's had a good day. Thanks for the support. A bit sketchy on my part at the beginning, but I hope it's been a good day of 'ol fashioned warhorse mining (with some amazing hashrates being periodically visited upon us from the unknown...)

I might have been a bit aggressive with some of the exchanges in trying to get kobocoin listed but I'll see what comes back. I'll also see if I can push for early delivery of the Android wallet.

The block explorer rich list is interesting. Something big seems interested in kobocoin. I'm hoping it's a multipool.

The rich list is not up to date, the last transaction show for me is about 3 hours ago, so no update on the rich list for 3 hours although there have been several transactions, why is that? Also, I can find my transaction IDs but they don't show up on the rich list so it's not up to date.
Yes, I saw that. There might be a refresh interval on the rich list.
477  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KOBO] Kobocoin - A West African peer to peer micropayment system on: February 08, 2015, 12:27:17 AM
You don't want a multipool before there are buyers at exchanges. I doubt it is a multipool, they usually wait for big exchanges so they can sell.  Probably renters and gpu farms. Mine while you still can and keep promoting the coin and its features.
Most definitely. I'm just wondering if most of it will be dumped once trading starts. I guess we'll see.

There is no exchange yet?
There is an exchange but no-one is trading
https://btcpool.exchange/market?pair=KOBO/BTC

Looks dodge. Transfer there at your own risk.

I am the owner and operator of the exchange , what looks dodge about it , we are fully registered with ASIC (Australian Security and Investment Commission ), yes we are new and building it every day!! Yes its not the bling bling site , but that is coming , we believe functionality and security are a higher priority first!! We have spent a lot of time and money developing it and getting fiat available and as you would probly know with the many regulations and laws its not an easy task , so before you label us , give us a chance !!

Thats all well and good but there is no volume, no liquidity and so you will only get people trading for scraps. You won't get miners to sell as there are no buyers. Good luck
Like any new project it has to start somewhere , and all exchanges start with no volume and that reflects only the last 24 hrs , and yes I do understand in the crypto world we do have to earn trust (i have been involved in the crypot world for over 5 yrs ) , plus features are important , we have sorted out from an australian point of view (and partially an international point of view) getting fiat into and out of the crypto realm and that will be enabled in the next few days .. This has and is a long term project for me and once all features are enabled , fiat deposit/withdrawals, mining pool with direct deposits into exchange and so on , then I will look at making the site prettier , but we will always be looking at adding new features , but this does all take time and money , like earning trust !!
I'm with you all the way on that. Best of luck, and thanks again for listing kobocoin.

It really needs another pool. Too much hash is at suprnova.  Wish Minerpools was still up.  If people would move to minerpools, let him know in here and IRC.
I was on Minerpools with a lot of hashing but I guess not enough. It's hard to get people off a trusted pool or exchange.
