1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Velocitycoin- Live and Download Now on: December 29, 2013, 08:00:49 PM
So are there people mining this with CGminer/multiminer? I really don't feel like adding some miner to my servers that needs a completely different way of working (auto-start, remote monitoring, fallback etc)
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HTC]Hotcoin 1.0 release, donated two million coins, first-served basis. on: December 28, 2013, 09:24:12 PM
Excellent coin so far...support and speed of the developer is exceptional!

I endorse HOT officially!
3  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Would you be interested in a "gen-wallet"? on: December 28, 2013, 08:42:34 PM
This is hard needed. All the wallets are driving me nuts!

I don't know if QT wallets offer some kind of API system where they communicate commands within a system (non-tcp-ip). But then you could think of a proxy-wallet. A virtual wallet that needs the real wallet to function, but just helps in keeping everything manageable.

The reason I suggest this is because often wallets get updated to fix forks or issues like the 1doge minimum fee to prevent flooding the system. Effectively you also relay responsability for loss and hacking etc to the original wallets, not you. It would make development easier, I think, once past the stage where you have to figure out if you can communicate with individual wallets to provide VirtualWallet interface.

Also I think this would make updating existing wallets friendlier - your wallet could check for the latest version and notify a user.

I guess in a way I'm a bit inspired by MultiMiner and GUIminer, the first also notifying you of new updates (and downloading them upon user confirmation - great!).

Edit: Also perhaps running such wallets in a sandbox might be useful to prevent inter-wallet communication (in case of infected wallet download of some new Alt coin - I'm continuously worried about that).
The wallet, if I did my research right, does offer some kind of internal API, because the Qt wallet is just a GUI for bitcoind. When you say a "proxy-wallet", what you mean is the Qt wallet for the coin is directly downloaded to a special directory under the main Wallet's, to be used as a remote for manipulating altcoins? So the main Wallet would not hold coins, but would send commands to the right altcoin wallet? Tell me if I'm mistaken.

Guac, if you use Skype add me. artw1982
Will do when I come home.

That is exactly what I am thinking of. A 'visual frontend' for altcoins you have.
Basically it would become a 'wallet manager' but with an interface that just makes it 'feel' like your coins are actually in the 'omni-wallet' shell. The software furthermore could work with auto-updating new wallets. Because the application is developed centrally theres a few people in charge of looking for updates to wallets (or they get notified by coin-makers, which is ofc. even better).

I am however also concerned about security and wonder if there is a way to sandbox all wallets (akin to a mini virtual machine). I just don't like the idea that wallets and the rest of my computer can interact.
Furthermore I *really* dislike the idea that wallets can access each others files (they are often in the same directory for management's sake, to make things worse).

Ideally the sandbox is two-way : The wallets can only see and access their OWN subdirectory. And nothing in your system can access the wallets because they are encrypted if the users so wishes (this could be a large button/option with mini why-to).

An other option in the wallet-shell could be to make backups of wallet.dat that are automatically zipped with SHA256 and perhaps uploaded or stored somewhere.

In the end many alt-coin wallets cause these problems that need to be solved:
1) Management of assets (list overall balance sheets)
2) Secure assets
3) Backup assets

5  Other / Off-topic / Re: Tax refunds are a bad thing on: December 28, 2013, 02:32:54 PM
That's a possibility

Also, but I am no expert in this regard, I think that tax law is very different between countries. What country do you live in ?
6  Other / Off-topic / Re: Tax refunds are a bad thing on: December 28, 2013, 02:14:15 PM
So you're saying that if I would not apply for any tax-refunds I'm a winner?  Cool Cry Huh Cheesy

Although what you say might be true in certain cases, someone with some tax-knowledge (or with an accountant) generally manages to play the tax-system such that the net result is always positive.
In contrast, if you just wouldn't care about taxes and pay whatever you get taxed with...means you won't get you refund.

Ergo, if you state that "applying for tax-refunds = loaning money to the government"

we also have to deduct the following :

"Not applying for tax-refunds = giving the government your money permanently"

No you adjust your withholdings and allowances.

I think you have an extremely limited scope of tax payments and refunds in mind. Either we both mean something else, or you clearly have not talked to a proper account about taxes Smiley

edit : in Holland specifically there are tons of regulations that you can 'exploit' to actually make a lot of money. I've gained more tax than I've paid in the past few years actually.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ヽ(•‿•)ノ 0% FEE DOGE Pool ! http://doge.cryptovalley.com ✩ ✩ on: December 27, 2013, 11:05:53 PM
Guys, are you serious?
Your comments just disappoint me.
I invested all my nights in this pool for 10 days, I was just tired as fuck and still spending about 10 hours/day on the pool for you guys, everyone, my friends, my family were saying I was mad to waste my health on such internet projects but I continued, for you, because I knew I had responsabilities as I was the admin of a pool with more than 70.000 users. The pool's wallet was just 20.000.000 DOGE, and when the MegaDoge went to 2 BTC I could have stolen all your coins and get 40.000$ but I didn't, I made everything I can to make the pool up as soon as possible, I did in approximatively 36 hours and because I don't have enough time to chat with you guys (because of coding and server management), you treat me like a stealer and a liar, so disappointing.
I will send your coins guy, some of you just do not realize the work involved. + i do not take any fees and pay servers with donation.

I'm not your slave, hope you'll understand. This afternoon i'm just going to sleep a bit because I will make a heart attack.

No worries, when I noticed my doge's were stuck I assumed things would turn out allright because cryptovalley has been reliable despite setbacks. Just because a few users get upset doesn't mean all of us do Smiley
Take your sleep, and please, turn on some fee or minimal donation so it's also worth it for you Smiley

10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][TIPS] [0.43 REQUIRED HARDFORK UPDATE!] FedoraCoin - Euphoria - Enlightenme on: December 27, 2013, 07:59:06 AM
I am getting quite sceptical about this coin to be honest.

Difficulty is such that everyone seems to mine millions and millions and millions of coins every day.
This devalues the coin tremendously because market demand can be satisfied by a few percent of total miners output.

Coin's difficulty should have been increased tenfold by now, instead nothing happened ...wth...?

Did maker of this coin never hear of 'inflation' ?
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Catcoin - Scrypt meow! on: December 27, 2013, 07:51:46 AM

The moon's the only safe webwallet for doge ;P

Yeah, because Catcoin has a much safer webwallet alternative.

Wait.

Catcoin doesn't have a webwallet. Catcoin doesn't even have a working webSITE  Grin
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Frozen] Logo Design Contest on: December 26, 2013, 08:06:34 PM
I took a crack at it.

I think its quite nice, but consider adding the arrow-points to the left and right arrows. It looks a bit daft now that they are cut-off!
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Catcoin - Scrypt meow! on: December 26, 2013, 03:43:58 PM
so is there any expectancy of the current difficulty dropping ? it's a pretty high value, and that so soon in the start of the coin..
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Catcoin - Scrypt meow! on: December 26, 2013, 09:34:30 AM
so...

still no working website. How can one launch a coin and just leave the domain with a nice 403 error for days..

15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Catcoin - Scrypt meow! on: December 25, 2013, 07:05:04 PM
Whats the matter r0ach and majic? Already sold your coins?  Kiss

It seems more logical to be critical before investing precious mining time.

It's hard to see with tainted glasses on, elbow-deep in many watt's of mining power stuck in the back side of some alt-coin. I've been there Smiley

So no, did not sell any (Sadly, because these hyperinflated prices are quite attractive I must admit!).

Either way, your short and off-topic reply do seem to imply you have no valid response to my questions. That makes them even more valid and concerning.

Which one are you? r0ach or majic?

That was me on my brother's account. Sorry :/

Either way, I certainly am not trolling. Just honestly critical, as well as a bit annoyed by the fact that something as basic as the wallet is not working well.

Also the fact he asks for payments in Doge on the main website is...a bit strange - why would you deem your own coin less valuable than that of the direct competitor?

---> "Donate DOGES with ♥ to DU93hudTRYVBh2UAmArXBQaT9sykqCLyc1" (on catcoin.org ...wtf!)
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Catcoin - Scrypt meow! on: December 25, 2013, 06:45:48 PM
So. Let me sum it up.

1) This coin had a fork recently, not good.
2) This coin has a wallet that doesn't really work very well, unless you fiddle with VBS files and other clunky stuff (how user friendly...)
3) This coin is an obvious rip and plays on "DOGE" theme. If that is it's main redeeming quality then I don't think this coin will have a very long life.
4) This coin lacks any form of target, direction, organisation.
5) The coin's website is currently down. Great.
6) The Wallet is hard to find (official mirrors seem...the ABC of 'launch-ur-altcoin' scriptbook, but ok)
7) The Wallet has a virus indication TROJ_GE.702F8FAD . It is of a different type from other Wallet's false positives, which concerns me.
Cool The developer does not seem to be very fast to respond to concerns, issues and troubles.
9) This just seems to be CTRL-F & replace name in some random altcoin data, then launch as your own coin and get-rich-quick-scheme complete.

So this coin lacks all qualities the majority of altcoins DO have. The only thing going for it is it's play on the "DOGE" meme which does not provide sufficient long-term grounds.

Effectively this seems to be a poorly thought out, poorly maintained and poorly executed alt-coin of the umph-th type. There is nothing distinguishable about it, and many things to criticize.

Not providing a functioning wallet out of the box, mirrors for said wallet seem to be the most glaring issues that this coin has. It shows the _absolute_ and utter incompetence of the developer in charge.

Please feel free to correct me of I am wrong - I'd be happy to be wrong about this coin. But I do think a word of warning seems to be in place right now.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Catcoin - Scrypt meow! on: December 24, 2013, 08:30:53 PM
yeah! Having cryptsy would be great, at least I'd have a payout address that would work!

Wait! Cryptsy is laggy as hell and is the #1 reason Doge got hit hard...because nobody could sell sh*t on that exchange due to all the bugs, delays etc.

18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Catcoin - Scrypt meow! on: December 24, 2013, 08:16:57 PM
so where do I download a wallet that is not completely broken and needs fixing with dubious dll's, random config files and everything?

Really, how hard is it to test your wallet for user friendliness before you press the 'post forum message with random clone of litecoin ctrl-f & replace stuff'.

I've been mining with quite a bit of hashing power, but so far did not get much return out of it. Hope the giveaway will help!
