At least 8 KB of memory are needed for groestl. Not using global ram doesn't equal register only. In my case I'm using part local ram and part memory cache. Same for hetpas.
With bitslice you can reduce memory usage further but not completely.
Still asic can be done if enough volume, which is not the case with DMD IMHO. And with the other coins of the same algo which are dead or almost dead it's even more so.

fact is if someone make a dmd groestl asic without ask us for permission we can easy change a bit in algo and all his chips are worthless

noone will risc that

Well that's not a guarantee though, it would require a hardfork to do, and then see which one would be supported by the community, there are various reasons having ASICs on the network can help. At the moment we have less than 1000 people holding most all the coins that have been created, so although not bad, its not great, and means there won't be much demand for usage, even if all 1000 of us wanted to use it as a currency right now.

ASICs can help with continuing to mine on the network with high hashrate, and if we are able to make the price worthwhile, by making it worth mining at 0.1 reward, it would mean the coin would be in good standing in regards to desirability, security and support. These ASICs then drop these coins on exchanges, creating liquidity and distribution.

I'm currently undecided on which direction would be best, but don't want to count ASICs out of the picture at this time, as there are still issues with the current POS system that need to be addressed, although granted the Diamond network has been very stable since its revival over a year ago, and although it has survived many various attacks on the network, I still wonder if its just a matter of time before it draws the attention of someone who can make the network look unsecure.

Either way, I'll continue to keep my jar of mined only DMDs, staking.

Hi That Guy,

I may have missed something,  but what exactly do you intend to do 'to make the price worthwhile, by making it worth mining at 0.1 reward' other than 'continue to keep my jar of mined only DMDs, staking'?
There are plenty of ways to support diamond, but the most important factors are the dev team, and buy pressure.

It would be nice to see some suggestions in support of moving DMD forward, or more support of current community activities.

Regards

chilo

Hey Chilo,

There isn't much I can do at this time for the coin, I do have some ideas kicking around in my head on low cost, high impact PR type things, but don't think now would be the best time to put into action (as my main idea you could only try once), also the crypto market in general is at a low point and there really isn't that many people using crypto compared to a realistic potential. I agree a dev team and buy pressure is needed, and like what the dev team has done and how they have handled many things that have happened along the way, but these are all just parts that go into making a machine work.

I think distribution is crucial to any coin, although not always required, but at this time, do we know how and why DMD is going to be positioned a particular way? If DMD is to be used for everyday transactions, what sets it apart from the rest? there are other coins that are rare, have POS or have fast transfers or a nice name and good branding, although DMD is a nice overall package, but bitcoin can suit the needs of the average joe. If DMD is to be used as something to buy and hold (which can be done with bitcoin and other coins), then how can it do that better than the rest? especially without causing low liquidity resulting in a volatile and manipulated price.

But, you can't have any of this without proving the security (so good so far) is priceless.

I have a couple ideas that I have thought up about how to utilize blockchain technology within our company, and work in a position that I have contact fairly high up in, in the right areas of a large tech company, I even spoke to some this week about the blockchain. This company, these ideas and these crypto coins are not yet ready to come together, but when they are, I will then be able to speak about these ideas with hopefully bitcoin and crypto being widely accepted as viable technology to use. Why not choose bitcoin then? well bitcoin although great and am fully behind, I do not think that POW is a good long lasting solution, but is good to use while a coin grows (would like to see bitcoin change to something like it in about 8-10 years), so want to see where the various POS implementations go. The company I work for is also very green when it comes to environment and part of its image, so to keep that in line, it would be best to utilize a POS network over a power hungry POW one. So due to this, I'm not only watching DMD, but many other coins that I have acquired. I mined DMD at various times over the past 15-16 months, and just decided to keep them and see what the new dev team does.

My opinion (for what its worth) is that getting DMD secure, user friendly and accessible for if/when crypto really starts to take of is key, although obviously you do need places to spend or transfer them to. I think some of the security concerns could be addressed by looking at what say, Blackcoin has done in regards to POS2 and coin age. Another potential option for growth could be looking at collaborating with CIYAM on these forums that is working on a Turing complete solution that can be implemented into coins that can then be used to build a decentralized exchange, I believe at this time he's looking at using Qora and Burst as a test set.

Just some food for thought, not trying to steer anybody or anything in any direction.

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi donate some of the 1.500.000 bitcoins for Greece! on: February 19, 2015, 11:48:35 PM
Greece got themselves into this mess, and need to learn to take responsibility and fix their situation. Giving them bitcoin would not help them, only possibly delay the inevitable even more, plus they would most likely cash it all out and the fiat would disappear almost instantly. From what I have seen, a lot of people that get into debt and end up declaring bankruptcy to get a "clean slate/bailout" only end up going back into debt again and often end up in bankruptcy again.

IF Satoshi does still have access to most or all of these coins, with a purchasing power of $200-$1000 each, you have a lot of power you can use to make further changes to certain things in this word, like charities, research, science etc, but I would not want to donate or use these bitcoins until the ecosystem for bitcoin is finally established, so that those you send bitcoin to, continue to use it as bitcoin for purchases and expenses instead of cashing out.

Then like mentioned previously, if he ever got found out and it was confirmed he had a lot of coins still, he would be bombarded by beggars, scammers, threats etc. I for one hope he is never found, but still alive, and would like to see some of his coins used in the distant future for good.

So I have an old Wallet that I had in a light client called Dub that was created by Baritus when he was the dev, I haven't touched this in a while, but upon syncing, it appears it will not sync past Dec 5th or so. I'm assuming this is when a hardfork occurred.

Does anyone know of a way around this or another client I can put this wallet into? I'm unable to find any newer versions of Dub or any real info at all on it, but assume it has been abandoned.

We went from "in god we trust" to in "crypto we trust" for something.
No, it's "In crypto we don't need to trust, because math." Do you even blockchain, bro?

Bro, I can Blockchain ALL DAY LONG, I'm even Blockchaining right now. Do you even Bitcoin, Bro?

Clearly the blockchain technology is here to stay, in such great coins as Bitcoin, Peercoin, and of course, the almighty Noodly Appendage Coin, which is without doubt, the future of everything. May you all be forever touched by the great Noodly Appendage.

Countdown to Wall Street going all in on Noodly Appendage Coin in 5....4....3....

I believe OP is referring to me. I will share my words of wisdom and help you all become rich by following my easy 3 step program.

1. It does not matter if you buy or sell, just as long as you do it in a panic.

2. Invest in lottery tickets.

3. Buy Coinye Coin, it is soon to replace all currency/fiat and has been estimated by professionals to be a 100+ trillion dollar market by 2015. Richness is *GUARANTEED.

*Warning, this is not a guarantee.

consult the thread for palas miner optimisation afaik u need to replace ur bin too
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=779598.0
I've tried various parameter settings for this with no change, the only things I have not tried, is changing any of the GPU frequency settings, or upgraded the AMD drivers (still on 14.4). Although Pallas post shows stock should be able to hit around 18Mhs.

As for the .bin file, although I gave it a try, I did not expect it to make any difference, as that bin is for the Hawaii based GPUs, where as the 280x is a Tahiti card.

It should work on Tahiti as well (it works on 7950, so...)

I'm not sure what the issue is then, since new .bin files were being created even with your .bin in place, I decided to change the name of your Hawaii BIN file to match that of the file that was being created for my parameters, it does appear to use it, as no new .bin files are created, and only your one remains, but it also did not affect the hashrate either.

I also have a 7950 I can try it on later, to see how that fairs.

regarding danbis pool it mine nothing
ur shares accepted but the pool cant find blocks until POW is activated

Good to know.

Not sure if I'm reading things incorrectly, but I see there is a optimized groestl kernel for SGMiner to help boost mining hashrate for certain AMD cards. I am running SGMiner 4.1 with the optimized kernel from Pallas, which I have replaced both the diamond.cl and groestlcoin.cl files with, but it appears this has made no difference with my hashrate.

I'm testing on a 280x running at stock settings, and am averaging 6.7Mhs, while I see others posting much higher rates with 280x and even the 270x. Am I missing something here? I've deleted the .bin files so new ones will be created, and I'm running the following batch file parameters for it.

sgminer -k diamond -o stratum+tcp://dmdpool.digsys.bg:3333 -u xxx -p xxx --xintensity 300 -g 1 -w 256 --lookup-gap 0 --thread-concurrency 8192 --difficulty-multiplier 0.0039062500

Also since I'm testing on Danbis pool, but POW for Diamond is not active yet, does anyone know what the pool is mining currently? I'm guessing its Groestlcoin itself.

FYI: testing/mining on Danbis pool is not showing any rejects for me.

i think you seriously underestimate the FMV dollar value of the entire worlds wealth, 10 percent of that as the market cap for bitcoin would make the price per coin tens of millions of dollars, in todays dollars not some crazy inflation doomsday dollars. a tenth of a percent of the worlds wealth going into it would make us all millionaires.

I was running wallet 2.0.2.1 and had my wallet open for the starting of the POS, but found the next day that I appeared to be on the wrong chain, as I had all orphans. I fixed it by changing the node and reloading the blockchain, but why did I end up on the wrong fork? I thought being on the newest version would make sure I stayed on the right chain.

I've been finding blocks solomining.  Grin I did try the p2pool a short while ago, but the frontend never showed me connected, but it was accepting shares.

Does PoS work for anyone?

PoS won't begin till block 400000.
It should begin on May 11th.

This thread is no longer being updated. Diamond has switched from Scrypt to Groestl and the last block was 386228 for Scrypt. If you are still running client 1.0.4, you will not sync beyond that block, you need to download the new client.

Yea I saw your post, you bring up a good point. I like what I'm seeing from Groestl, and its good to see that it brings Nvidia onto the same playing field as AMD for mining.

My previous post was more just to address the reason why I had reported the hashrate that I did. Don't want people to thing that I'm taking sides with any particular coin or algorithm.

I was the one who performed that brief testing of the various algorithms, I can tell you that the results were note wrong, BUT from looking into this further, I can see why they appear that way. The testing I did was with running 2 threads with an intensity of 13 (increasing intensity had no affect), I did this, as with all current algorithms I had tested at that point, my cards performed better on 2 threads compared to 1, and 4800Khs was the max I got from them.
I have changed the parameters to 1 thread with intensity 19, and I do get ~5900Khs from them now.

I'll go back and update the results I got in the DMD forum when I have time, to reflect these findings.
