281  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Facebook and blockchain on: May 12, 2018, 03:19:45 PM
It's more to do with using Blockchain for data security, than any actual imminent Cryptocurrency or ICO.

The text you refer to is your Personal Text space and that is the same for all ranks. Ranks of Full Member and above also get to wear an avatar.

Thanks, TheQuin, I understand the forum signature space concept fully now.  Smiley

If you are making an Announcement of an ICO, at least you need to do the basic homework beforehand.  Like, for instance, actually posting an English language ad on an English language forum.    Roll Eyes

Reserved

Thanks for posting those code snippets and their translation into actual on-page appearance. For the first time now, I can easily note the ascending privileges in terms of forum signature presentation.

Now, if only someone shows how these ascending privileges work w.r.t. the signature space below the member name, member status, and posts+activity, (for instance, mine says: "Exploring this new terrain!"), I'd be much obliged.

I would have granted Merit, only I'm a noob who doesn't have any! So, thanks, heartfelt thanks of immense gratitude, from a fellow human you've greatly helped, and who can offer You no material consideration in return.  Smiley
285  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What service missing in cryptoworld? on: May 12, 2018, 10:55:21 AM
I need a single database of documents. Now almost all developers want participants of ICO's send documents to verify identity. It is very dangerous. Sending your passport to everyone is a complete nonsense. I'll rather send my data once in one world registry. After this, when need to pass the KYC, I would send some link to the general register. It would have secured my documents. Some projects (TheKey for example) are already dealing with this problem, but only in the test version.

The Indians have exactly the kind of setup you have presented in your wish-list. Its called Unique Identity something something and has the acronym UIDAI. Its administered by their government, and is officially called 'Aadhaar' (means: support).

In a prolonged debate, their Supreme Court has raised serious objections wrt privacy and data security. These are dismissed by the technical people as far-fetched.

Also, Bill Gates has praised this UIDAI, and his foundation is funding the extension of that scheme into India's neighbouring countries.
286  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: We should build a seastead on: May 11, 2018, 11:09:22 PM
I'm pretty sure that the minimum security would have to be provided, but let's talk about another aspect first. Every year thousands of people are boarding their yachts to visit some tropical islands like the Seychelles (near a popular somali pirate fishing area Wink ) and live to tell the tale. Nothing happens. And in most cases they have no hired guards or anything like that. Those pirate hits and abductions that you're talking about aren't that common.

That said, there are many ways of making the platforms secure, starting from installing a radar and a sonar to monitor the traffic around the seastead and ending with automated water canons able to sink a boat if needed. Of course, if you're expecting a whole invasion of some third worlders armed with RPGs, not many things are able to stop it, but French Polynesia is inviting tourists every year, and most of them are rich for pirate standards. Are they being abducted or robbed at gunpoint? Not really, if you trust the reports.

I entirely agree with your data. Nevertheless, you must understand that such a seastead/ micro-nation is a new, innovative and disruptive entity on the global horizon. Several minds are going to be perturbed, and a few of them might even drift toward some decisive action.

When I say 'pirates' the image that immediately comes to mind is the impoverished Somali pirates. But, anybody operating outside a national setup is a 'pirate'. Consider the legendary pirates of the sailing ship, colonial era!

In fact, that very same seastead/ micro-nation, on account of its disruption of the world order, would be considered a pirate of sorts. Such an outlook toward the seastead would attract buccaneering mindsets currently serving in various national Navies to plot their own disruptions.

When that occurs, they would be no Somali pirates, but mostly indistinguishable from standard Navymen, as most if not all of them will be erstwhile Naval personnel drawn from various national Navies, now come together for this lucrative mercenary op for what to them seems like some noble action to save the world order against a borderline 'pirate' state.

If you think this is far-fetched, read the rosters of mercenary ops in Africa, where the governments of whole countries have been rudely overthrown, because of the lucrative mineral wealth. The pretext: poor integration with, and attempt to disrupt, the global order, exactly what an upstart seastead would be accused of. The subtext: lucrative riches on offer, whether in Africa, or on a seastead.

These ops would be full-fledged invasions, using the latest naval weaponry 'borrowed' from 'somewhereland'. Does the seastead/ micro-nation have the stomach to even contemplate such an eventuality of overwhelming warfare, let alone plot counter measures?

287  Local / Off-Topic (India) / Re: Who are the top ICO consultants in India? on: May 11, 2018, 08:03:15 PM
I would like to mention the name of Evan Luthra, who seems to be some boy-genius, globe-trotting, serial entrepreneur who also does a lot of motivational speaking and unhealthy partying.  He has a Crypto Investment Bank, but I'm not sure if he's done an ICO in India, though he has a biggish office and lotsa staff in the New Delhi area.

His Instagram feed is quite entertaining, though strictly NSFW at late night party times Wink

If anyone here knows more about him, please do enlighten us all. At least from his IG feed, he radiates the glow of a flamboyant character.
288  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How hard is it to write an ICO whitepaper? on: May 11, 2018, 02:46:54 PM
Hm if you really are into the projecct you want to develop and support it should be pretty easy to wrtie an whitepaper cause you are the one who knowst the most about your coin. But if you write it for sme else it could get difficult

Writing a novella, or a super-long chain of related essays, which is what a Whitepaper essentially happens to be, isn't quite a piece of cake.  Technical writing that appeals to the masses isn't the strong point for most people, especially those in the technical world who are more at ease communicating with their peers.

A Whitepaper can make or break an ICO launch. So, its plain due diligence for the founders to maximise every opportunity to make their WP shine.

Strictly speaking from a military pov, that's a very close cluster of money-rich targets.  While one assumes there will be some form of military protection, this is too luscious a temptation to ignore for mercenaries and pirates.

Expect pirate attacks, pay through the nose to deter, or pre-empt them. If you expect the established nation-states to help you out with their Navies, shell out some more, lots more moolah.

Even if it proves workable on ALL other fronts, it most certainly fails this military protection test, especially in this post-modern world of drones, unmanned subs, and robot soldiers.

Your only hope then would be for the Bitcoin (and allied crypto) price to crash through the roof; and this seastead to turn too poor to pay ransom or protection money. That won't stop the pirates from trying to abduct seastead 'citizens' for human trafficking purposes. Only solace then would be that they won't be using Bitcoin or Monero, coz they'd have crashed.

Sounds harsh, but it's a necessary reality check.

290  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How hard is it to write an ICO whitepaper? on: May 11, 2018, 12:45:42 PM
A lot of the material is already available in the public domain. Nevertheless, you might be revealing some secret sauce not generally known.

For an eBook, your price is rather steep. On the other hand, this is the world of the ICO, where in-game currency topped USD20k last year, so don't let the standard eBook pricing model hold you down.

Best wishes for Your sales success from a fellow (wannabe) book writer (hopeful author).

291  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen to bitcoin in the near future? on: May 11, 2018, 12:02:08 PM
It's impossible to gauge the public sentiment in the future.  The price of Bitcoin is entirely a function of its market demand.  If in the future this demand cools down, Bitcoin could go as low as US $20. On the other hand, some analysts throw figures like US $400,000 for one Bitcoin.

Caveat emptor!
292  Local / Off-Topic (India) / Re: What are your sources of educating yourself for bitcoin and Altcoins ? on: May 11, 2018, 11:58:04 AM
Also, keep reading the news. Follow crypto groups on Reddit, and Bitcointalk.  Wink
293  Local / Off-Topic (India) / Re: Hijacking of bitcointalk accounts and precautions on: May 11, 2018, 09:50:04 AM
Surely, OP deserves some Merit for making such a constructive post. That Merit system is seriously flawed, what with scamsters 'meriting' each other, and genuine posters forced to go 'dry'.
294  Other / Meta / Re: Instant Mobile-Responsive quick-fix solution for Bitcointalk's SMF Software on: May 11, 2018, 01:48:14 AM
Seems like there's already so much custom code on this forum that a simple theme change may not work. Scaling user signatures sizes alone would be a big headache.

Don't know about you but based on my experience in web design, redesigning user interfaces should not be taken lightly especially in a production environment which is already being used with heavy traffic. The amount of work and testing needed would be on a much larger scale than a simple copy-paste commonly employed in simpler websites.

Thanks for the insight.  Now, I understand the problem in trying to shift to a mobile responsive design for Bitcointalk.
295  Other / Off-topic / Re: Benefit of vegetarian? on: May 11, 2018, 01:44:55 AM
The only problem with the vegetarian diet is the fact that most vegetarians don't recognize or have access to the right plants to keep themselves healthy.

You are so very correct. 'Newbie' vegetarians think they can get their essential nutrients through drinking detox smoothies combined with salad and soya burgers.   Shocked

Ideally vegetarians need to eat pulses, lentils, legumes, and assorted grains, rotated throughout the week.  Additionally, milk and dairy products, (lacto-vegetarian).

For safety's sake, add eggs, (ovo-lacto-vegetarian)!

To combat the Vit B12 deficiency when you go full veg, you'll need supplementation. That, and any other vitamin, micro-nutrient you might be deficient in thanks to your no-meat diet. A proper veg diet might not be so calamitous, but fussy eating habits in growing children pose additional risks.

Tetris

And, Galactic Attack, primarily because that was the one I used to play in its real arcade form, preserved at a friend's place by his dad  Smiley

It just feels good knowing you are not harming other living creatures unnecessarily! (Vegan here)  Cheesy

You seem to be a compassionate person; but there are Vegan Fascists out there who'll not hesitate to harm humans to achieve their Vegan ends.
298  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reason why bitcoin won't last long (which are you afraid of?) on: May 11, 2018, 12:38:39 AM
Probably the potential of being replaced by another crypto currency, because we all know there are people out there finding a way that can beat bitcoin

Actually, Ethereum has a (better?) construct of Smart Contracts on the Blockchain; but, it hasn't upstaged Bitcoin so far.

I usually support an underdog.  Say, some team like RR [Rajasthan Royals].  One time, I even supported MI because they were weak back then.  This time, I'm hoping that Chris Gayle clicks and KXIP lift the trophy.

DD is a regulation underdog, unfortunately, their performance has gone to the dogs  Wink

RCB, though a perfect fit for the title of 'underdog' with their string of failures, will never be considered as such because Virat Kohli leads that team    Grin
