603  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: No Fees anymore in BitcoinQT 0.9.0? on: March 26, 2014, 02:43:33 AM
I will sending on blockchain.info without fee to see if it confirms. It seem better since they stoped letting people spend unconfirmed coins.
it will confirm if it's a priority transaction

if it's not, it won't for a very long time

i also think the old .0001 fee was fine... 6 cents? Wtf
604  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoind sync problem? on: March 26, 2014, 02:38:43 AM
So i installed bitcoind on my vps and server is running and syncing but i am constantly an hour behind the blockchain. Also, yesterday i tried to send some coins from Multibit to one of the bitcoind addresses on my server but even after 100+ confirmations, the wallet shows 0 balance and 0 confirmations? Can someone help please.
maybe your VPS is too slow to keep up with the blockchain?

try maxconnections=1
listen=0
connect=5.9.24.81

looks like a classic case of too many transactions in memory... but i'm not seeing some unusual amount on blockchain.info...
606  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: re: Data Propagation Daily Snapshots on: March 25, 2014, 11:46:51 PM
Does anyone know who I can email about it then?

Transactions don't vary nearly as much as blocks, it's pretty easy to look at that chart and see it's working... but  blocks it's not possible...  I'd think that since the difficulty just went up there would be less blocks per hour so the propagation time would go up?

I wasn't running my nodes on the 23rd...  just mar 4th to mar 8th, mar 12th, most of mar 19, 20, and 21st & shut right after midnight.  Started back up with a few modifications right after the midnight, probably sometime between 12:00 and 1AM on the 24th.

Need average block sizes, and the propagation times in relation to those avg block sizes  Grin    probably for transactions, too

ed: it looks like they may even slow block distribution down, somewhere between 75 and 90 percentile.. possibly due to hundreds of clients queueing for block from my server?
607  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Scrypt.CC | Scrypt Cloud Mining on: March 25, 2014, 11:30:11 PM
Er.... 1.20 per hour is $875 per month, and over $10,000 a year  Huh

3Mhs at scryp.cc is around $2500 currently, and lasts as long as you or scrypt.cc lives.

then I failed to grok the site?

it looked to me like I had to pay $300 for 325khash?  so, who are these people you trust so much, then?
608  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: FloridaCoin FLC on: March 25, 2014, 11:21:53 PM

As a Floridian I agree!

Seriously no

OMG, it's only 2 months away now!
611  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: FloridaCoin FLC on: March 25, 2014, 11:00:27 PM
i don't know about this Florida pool, but I thought the

[GAY] Mine Big

pool was pretty elite.
612  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Scrypt.CC | Scrypt Cloud Mining on: March 25, 2014, 10:50:58 PM
Those prices are insane & the income calculator isn't even factoring in possible difficulty increases (you know it's going to happen w/ scrypt asics).

But the worst part about it is that you can get 3mhash/s from Amazon EC2 for $1.20 an hour
613  Bitcoin / Project Development / re: Data Propagation Daily Snapshots on: March 25, 2014, 09:44:58 AM
I am not sure who does this or I'd just PM/email but all it shows is bitcoin address.

Would it be possible to add average block and average transaction size when making this chart?  For blocks especially that has a huge impact on propagation times, right now I don't really know if it's going down to x value because blocks are smaller or better network.
614  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: help propagation transactions - source code question on: March 25, 2014, 09:40:40 AM
main.cpp, and I guess you'd be looking at the stuff below

        // Resend wallet transactions that haven't gotten in a block yet
        // Except during reindex, importing and IBD, when old wallet
        // transactions become unconfirmed and spams other nodes.

and

        //
        // Message: inventory
        //

^^ decides whether or not to broadcast transactions
615  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Do I have to wait for hours to start using Bitcoin? [Bitcoin Core 0.9.0] on: March 25, 2014, 09:36:01 AM
Hello,

on a new computer, Bitcoin Core 0.9.0 says that it synchronizes with the network for several hours now.
It also says that we are 100-something weeks behind. (Behind what?)
Does Bitcoin Core doewnloads the whole 14 GB blockchain to my hard drive?
Do I have to wait so long for synchronization to complete any time I move to a new computer?

If it's still 100+ weeks behind after several hours, then it's going a lot slower than it should (unless you're on some 512MB VPS or something similar).  Download the torrent or use maxconnections=1 and connect to one peer with lots of bandwidth.

The blockchain is around 20GB, and, yes, it downloads the whole thing.

No, you could simply put your bitcoin files on a flash drive and take that to your new computer.

470khash, for the special price of $8?

Why not just run Amazon EC2 spot instance?  The US East (Virginia) g2.2xlarge (us-east-1b) Windows GPU instance has not cost more than $0.152/hr for the last week.  It hasn't been over $0.121 for ~72 hrs.  They have a Grid K520 that can do 250khash/s and you can use 7 cpu cores for another 40 or so, giving about 290 total, for around $3 a day.
617  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: SCRYPT ASIC miner ready. BTC+LTC ASIC miner, LA1THS, usd5000, stock ready now. on: March 24, 2014, 01:54:17 PM
Plans are forming to hard fork some popular Scrypt coins to render Scrypt asics USELESS.  Do not buy Scrypt ASICS!!!!!  Don't even make them!
Bitcoin's network is just about impenetrable at this point. It would take the majority of the world's computing power to deliberately fork the network, and it would probably still fail after a few minutes. This is a GOOD THING if you are trying to secure the network.

or it could just be two companies that manufacture asics
618  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: How can 0% fee pools make money? on: March 24, 2014, 07:03:17 AM
Most so called 0% pools are actually taking some of the mining returns, be it transaction fees, merged mining or both.

The rest are doing some kind of loss leader, either to promote another product, to build their brand, or to build a the personal brand of the operator.

0% fee does not necessarily mean a pool is a good pool to use or that it is a bad pool to use. Don't be hypnotized by that number. It is powerful.

eh, what could a scrypt p2pool 0% fee, 0% donation take?
619  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cheap electricity for mining Bitcoin on: March 21, 2014, 11:11:46 PM
My electric is 0.06KWH in USD if anyone wants me to host stuff i'm more then happy to I wont charge much extra to add it in my cluster of miners.

yeah, mine was .06c for a while, too.  since this russia/ukraine business started it's gone back up to .08c

(is maybe 70% natural gas and 30% from wind turbines)
620  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Nearly burned down my home due to mining farm (tips on how to stay safe ) on: March 21, 2014, 11:06:05 PM
I had a 20ft 16 gauge extension cord that melted, but didnt catch on fire or anything....  uh, the socket of the power supply or whatever melted out.

I use 12 gauge 50' extension cords now.  these:

http://www.lowes.com/pd_67439-16503-UTP511830_4294722561__?productId=3203689&Ntt=12+gauge&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3D12%2Bgauge&facetInfo=

except when I bought them they were only $50/ea.

oh, this was just from your typical household socket here in the US (rated for 15 amps)
