521  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: May 25, 2014, 12:14:11 PM
the point with darkcoin is that it has a somewhat first mover advantage - additionally the instamine was distributed quite well see otc for darkcoin. the developer has shown that he is capable of setting the right economic incentives as well as shown talent regarding coding.

for me personally it would be better if mro would win the game, because I simply have more but I think darks position is stronger.

what you called "premine" is not always premine - some people try to solve the byzantines generals problem differently. if you are really interested in 2.0 coins you should read

http://www.ofnumbers.com/2014/03/04/chapter-3-next-generation-platforms/

probably there are newer publications but this guy seems to know what he is talking about - from my perspective 2.0 applications make bitcoins useful in the western world - this is where blockchain stuff really gets exciting.

ask this question before - what is the unique feature of qora making it so special? - I know it is written from scratch

I tested the client and pretty much liked it.
523  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Darkcoin DRK will hit over $100 by Monday!!! on: May 24, 2014, 01:08:31 PM
imo the only it will fall significantly will be that evan fails to implement masternodes properly.

do some profitability calculations regarding masternodes and you'll see where this ship is going

WTB 50000 BBR for 5BTC

There is not enough BBR for you to buy such big amount.
BBR is rare and hard to mine.

correct me if I am wrong but it is half as rare as monero due to the blocktime, but the blockreward is the same for the first  18x days?
525  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: May 23, 2014, 12:26:55 AM
can someone explain what unique feature this project offers (or will offer)- I understand that it is written from scratch.
526  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] CounterSports - The world's first distributed betting application on: May 22, 2014, 11:57:01 PM
today too tired but maybe let us give it a try for the upcoming cl final on saturday !

great to see the counterparty protocol in use
527  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: May 22, 2014, 11:47:22 PM
are the devs in contact with https://github.com/psztorc/Truthcoin?

I do not exactly know if it is possible to implement it in the betting system used by counterparty, but from an economics perspective this idea is so great and has a potential which reaches far beyond the current crypto scene - well implemented you can reach academia with it
528  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BBR][HP] Boolberry (formerly HoneyPenny) Rename Contest - 125 BBR Prize on: May 22, 2014, 10:14:08 PM
RINGS (RNG)

i think something like that is helpful - I would not recommend calling it notes/bytes etc. - give it a unique name, I think moneros success is also given to its wonderful name
529  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 22, 2014, 12:10:55 PM
as a bagholder of dark I think it is a mistake not to implement ring signature - anyway better for monero
530  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: BBR Boolberry trading thread | Bid 0.00091 / Ask 0.009 / Last 0.001 on: May 21, 2014, 01:44:58 PM
why are there so little sell offers? - guys the success of monero was not given by hoarding, it was given by a good distribution in the beginning due to the otc by smooth - same will probably also be true with quora
531  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 21, 2014, 01:08:31 PM
haha there was this great phrase in the darkcoin thread which could not be more true

thanks all the shitcoins for hiding dark so long on coinmarketcap - let us see how long this holds true for monero Cheesy
532  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: May 21, 2014, 10:25:20 AM
Announcement: Niki Wiles will be working as community relations manager for Counterparty. For more information, see our blog.

Yay!
I'm looking forward to my invitation to the Counter(block)party!

he has shown great effort over the last months - very very good decision Smiley
533  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 20, 2014, 08:23:57 PM

PS Re: logo contest. I regret I didn't send at least 1 MRO for the bounty so my voice would actually mean something. But I have to say it's very, very sad to look what's going on. One word: greed. I really appreciate all the work devs did with Monero, but this logo contest...

Actually he did it again, the bounty on 99designs was $500 this morning, now it changed to $300. It's a shame because I like the coin and its technology.

I am only a small bagholder - but I'll would be willing to send 30 monero for a bounty if it is managed by smooth - if the whole community gives only a small amount we probably get 300 moneros + 300$ together.

this logo stuff is a turn down and the amount is so small that we should change it immediately
534  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple going up again on: May 20, 2014, 04:33:10 PM
afaik ripple labs holds tons of ripples - can someone explain me when and in which rate they are distributed?
535  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CHA] Chancecoin, a coin for betting in a decentralized casino on: May 20, 2014, 02:44:19 PM
http://coinmarketcap.com/ added chancecoin - good to see Smiley
536  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 20, 2014, 01:49:28 PM
I didn't know about this. That is my mistake.

We have moved out some of our investment.

Bytecoin was forked into a coin that the community could participate in from day one.
Alas, none of the bugs or short comings were fixed in doing that— and it doesn't appear that any of the people involved in it have the background for the low level work. So you might have just written out the only active developers of the software, may not bode well for continued development.

The fork also can't claim to be roses and sunshine wrt fairness: As someone very interested in privacy technology and as someone who is usually near the hub of technical discussion in the Bitcoin system, I'd never heard of that fork until just recently— nearly a month after it's start.  And… has a very fast coin distribution, and was started with a difficulty much lower than the network could support. A lot could have been done to improve fairness (e.g. fixing the subsidy to a low level at least until the difficulty crossed the level where the prior system was, or setting the minimum difficulty to a good fraction of the achieved rate), promoting it outside of pools of altcoin speculators (e.g. why do I hear about zerocash 100,000 times for every time I hear about this stuff?), etc.   Not that I think that any of the altcoin stuff is advisable, but if you're going to make a fork on the virtue of fairness wouldn't it behoove you to actually be fair? Smiley

And, of course, the fork has now also been forked. That one at least tames the insanely fast distribution somewhat... but it too doesn't fix any of the worse parts... I can only imagine that we're going to continue to see once a month forks of that stuff— suits me fine, while the technology is interesting and useful, the speculative churn is not.

is this fud?

he claims to be an expert and he implies he has his finger on the pulse of cryptocurrency. yet, he found out about this coin 1 month after it has come out. I had only heard of bitcoin in passing, never knew whta it was and signed up on bitcointalk and found out about this coin the day it was announced. either he is a fud spreder, or this should be humbling as he may not be the expert he claims to be.

i am not in the mining business - but this is kind of funny. It was completely visible here. I found this coins maybe 3-4 after the announcement, the thread already had 20 pages, there was a well managed otc trade in the marketplace. what do people expect? - an anouncement in the new york times?

537  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 19, 2014, 11:02:07 PM

I think what is much more impressive than the price development (I expected that and pre-poloniex it was overly cheap) is the volume. 200.000 (!) out of 850.000 mro changed hands today. even if you take all the arbitrage trades away it is nothing but massive. overall more than 500 btc trade volume in less than 24h

I said this before in the darkcoin thread, there is a huge demand for a coin offering anonymization, let us build it.
538  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 19, 2014, 03:11:58 PM
longterm all price analysis done does not matter that much but anyway gl daytrading Cheesy
539  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 19, 2014, 02:14:38 PM
setting good incentives is one of the most important things in crypto (bitcoin imo suffers little from non-optimal incentivisation). when you want to make it perfectly you should also consider to set an incentive for running full-nodes in the future. maybe they should earn the transaction fees Wink

540  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 19, 2014, 01:51:03 PM

 Smiley

maybe the next step should be to add it on coinmarketcap - or do you think it is too early?

it's too early but exposure is always good. trollbox is going nuts for monero.

I think it is good to get it on coinmarketcap because the visibility is much higher there.

my reference project for a perfect project is counterparty (not for price development Cheesy but all the rest), it was very early on coinmarketcap - it was much harder to set up and use counterparty that days than it is today for monero.
