Thank you for the input.
Good move - I had checked it but it was too late here to post - sleep beckoned!

The proliferation of alternative algorithms is, only IMVHO, driven by the quite considerable investment base in GPUs With decreasing 'profits' and the cost of power only likely to increase, the need for other 'ASIC resistant' algos was inevitable and has fuelled innovation. This is after all, the nature of 'business'. I'm only firing from the hip with no statistical data to drive the statement; BUT have we seen a massive uptake of widely adopted coins using non SHA/Scrypt algos? I'm not sure that we have. Has it become too complex and confusing for the average 'quick profit' driven miner to adopt? Perhaps so... Keeping up to date with every algo, compiling the latest cgminer / bfgminer / sgminer / etc. etc. downloading new wallets, keeping up with forks - has become, I guess, the landscape of the hardened focussed miner - not so the casual 'let's make a few bucks out of a hobby' miner with a 5 card rig or two whirring away in the basement... EDIT: Does this also detract from simple, wider adoption and help to bolster the broader public opinion that cryptocurrencies are for geeks only? I admire consolidation's stand together with his reasoning behind adopting scrypt; providing the various measures are in place to prevent ASIC-Rape then this is going to be a very interesting project and hopefully a long-term success!

consolidation and contributors;
I virtually stumbled on this thread, chose 'view all' and have just finished reading...
I am singularly impressed by your professionalism, holistic approach, philosophy, rationale, and pragmatic viewpoint - your outlook on Scrypt is alarmingly refreshing!
In short, I am very excited by Bitmark - I have mined many altcoins since Dec 13 in exactly the way you describe consolidation i.e. with nothing but perceived potential 'value' in the long term. I have missed out on several BTC worth of pump n dumps believing that one coin of true value would shine through...
++1 and will be following with great interest!

Most miners are fairly committed by now and having to face the power/GPU/ASIC/Alternative algorithm questions/decisions...
As MysteryX so rightly says, it is indeed a bad time for profit. You could get yourself some scrypt ASICs and point them at a switching pool and hope that the ever decreasing BTC returns that you get will be worth holding in case BTC soars in value...
To enter into the Altcoin fray so late in the day is quite frankly ex. risky. My honest advice is that if you genuinely have $5k to invest in mining, you could do far better trading... The volatility of BTC and LTC provide a great platform for trading. Read, learn, start small and 'cut your teeth'.
You have to ask yourself the serious question - can I afford to take my $5k and put a match to it? if the answer is yes then it is a fun thing to be involved in!

Ok - sorted SSL port in 10-ssl.conf and all working...
Now to hosts / ips to allow!

Hi LinuxETC Quick question to save me some time... I have updated /etc/hosts.allow and hosts.deny to only allow: ALL: myIPaddresses and block everything else. What I want to do now is change the http & https ports for the web server. Ideally, I want to only use https by default... Can you point me to the specific conf file (equivalent to httpd.conf / vhosts.conf for Apache) please? TY in advance PS Two rigs running 8 GS Blades total on 2 x Pi (one with PiFace Digital which I use to control the ATX PSU on/off remotely - it's really cool!) The files would be (depending on the version of StarMiner) under either /etc/apache2/ (versions prior to 15 June 2014 release) or /etc/lighttpd/ (versions including and after 15 June 2014 release). Happy and profitable mining to all! It's the /etc/lighttpd version - I can see the lighttpd.conf but also /etc/lighttpd/conf-enabled with 10-cgi.conf and 10-ssl.conf Which is the active conf file containing the 'listening' port/s? TY

Once I get my head around paper wallets (I'm nearly there), BIP-38, private keys etc I am going to be creating several paper wallets with balances of between 25 - 250 Million and visiting places across my region (Manchester, UK for now but It'll be other parts of the UK later in the year) to clue people up on crypto-currency (This is part of my day job anyway) and give out these wallets.
I will be looking for technical minded people, non-technical minded people, designers, even investors and people that have a general interest in IT and the crypto world.
Let me know if any you guys are based in the UK and if you know of anyone that may be interested in helping or meeting up.
Hi Batesresearch, As you know, I am in the UK but down in sunny East Anglia (25C right now!)... Let me know your progress and timeline - would definitely be interested but will depend on availability... For some strange reason, my Wife isn't particularly keen on the idea of me relinquishing my full-time role and pursuing Crypto instead!

We all need to cover power costs... We all have bills to pay... But FAIL is revived by the hard work and effort of Spartak, Batesresearch, MineP, Xerodrag, etc. FAIL deserves to FAIL (by succeeding)! Respectful request to all holders to avoid dumping out at low prices! Sure, I could cash out (buy volume permitting) but why? Hold fast and watch the price rise! FAIL on FAILERS! Its always nice to hear you Mr. A.. you are failing with us and you are my friend... I LOVE YOU... just kidding. Thanks again. FAIL will SUCCEED. Yo Mr. B! Love you too - just kidding also! You're doing a great job! FAIL ON!

Ok, TY both...
I have 2 on one Pi and 5 on another - both running Starminer which I have found to be very good. Trying 1024 on both confs as all going to one BTC address...
Will see what happens as had v.high rejects on one of the rigs.

On the subject of d=xxx
If one has, say, two rigs of 4 x GS Blades mining on same BTC address; is the d=xxx based upon the total hash rate at the single address or the 'per blade' or even 'per module' hash rate?
I'm guessing its the total but just want to ensure best outcome...

Mmm... tend to agree... All Switchpools = LazyMining That's no disrespect to Terk or any of the great switchpools which have taken effort to build and operate - they certainly meet the need of 'I really do not have the time to keep watch on everything' mining!
