I spoke to CaptainHook and we have a plan to release 50 000 iCoin a month for promotions, excluding other services that the community decide to add for a reward.
CaptainHook is a quite a paranoid character and says if we give massive promotion straight away it will only benefit a few that know about iCoin, so as the coin
grows more promotions will come.
I understand your fears, I had the same reservations about the premine, Perhaps we need to learn how the Ripple, NXT and second generation coins convince
the community that a 100% premine isn't a bad thing and that it's being done for the right reasons.
Just something to add, if Captainhook ever decides to dump out I will personally be buying up iCoin, this way the power switches into my hands or whoever buys up coins
at these low prices. cointopic and I are here to stay whether or not CaptainHook ends up being a dirty player. We don't need him to continue with the coin BUT
I honestly don't believe this is what he wants, he has delivered on every single bounty,service,rewards and told me he doesn't care if the coin takes 7 months to

For more transparency I have bought up over 16 000 iCoin between both exchanges at 10% of what I think they worth currently.

Giving away 50k coins per month is a good start but let me show you why it's still a worry to me and other miners. The following table assumes that the 50k a month is essentially given to the miners/community. It also takes into account rough block reward halving dates.  Now in theory, for a coin that is supposed to last decades this isn't a problem, but it just so happens that this large premine and slow release is also the perfect set up for something dodgy. Remember, it only has to last long enough to get onto an exchange for a scam to be pulled off and how long is that? one month? two? still 50% territory. I think we would all feel a lot better if the Dev distributed the coins to the whole team so that no one person can ruin everything OR the give-aways are sped up big time. Whatever it takes to distribute those coins sooner rather than later. The fact that there were no plans to even spend a satoshi of the premine on promotions until the community kicked up a stink isn't a good sign. I feel like a jerk saying this but really, get your act together guys. Make a plan, make it public and then stick to it. viperbass and cointopic if Captainhook ends up being a scammer you guys can simply start up another iCoin with a developer you trust and do things properly from the start. Clearly a lot of work has gone into
this from both you and you have all the design in place.
I really hope I am wrong about this situation and the community hears a response from CaptainHook ASAP. FYI - He still hasn't replied to my PM about helping to market the coin.

The devs might see 1% premine as reasonable, the miners and investors see it as a risk. Transparency and a give away schedule is what we need to see. To reiterate: More spending on promotion

More trust from the community. Do we need to make it any clearer? SPEND THE PREMINE ON ADVERTISING and be transparent about it! ps: I was using the http://speedminer.org pool mentioned above and it worked just fine, very low reject rate. I'll go back to that pool once there is a little more trust in this coin. I will also await more response on this matter, CaptainHook aka Mystery Dev should be doing a lot more promotion with that premine. |

starting another coin with someone else because it's most likely you are being setup.
If you are doing a 1% premine make sure all coins will be mined out within 20 years, .5% premine for a 40 year coin...
I will have a chat with CaptainHook to see if the premine can't be distributed between the team more evenly, I understand the risk of 1 person controlling all the funds and have explained this to Captain already. I will feedback once I have heard back from him. Viperbass your one of the reasons I trusted this coin , this shit should of been sorted out between yourselves at the start. 1 000 000 premined is just sick when you think about the slow coin release. Hope the dev is a wise guy. Not to mention i didn't see that much of givaways. Hope the premine will help promoting the coin somehow though since you seem to have high ambition for it It's 5 million coin premine, this is the problem we will need to see massive promotions otherwise the risk is far too high! Considering that only 25 million coins will be mined in 4 years. I want to see evidence of the promotions and giveaways going forward. |

I like the suggestion from the community about clarity. So I would like to do my part. After winning the iCoin logo contest I joined the team as designer. I take care of the marketing material and website, for this I work closely with Viperbass Crypto's are still pretty new for me, but it feels like a step in the future. It inspires me to do my part in bringing crypto's to the public. And my part is design.

captainhooks : He started iCoin and controls the premine and financial side. He is also the developer.
Viperbass : Does the marketing, handles community feedback and talks with future investors.
Cointopic: Designed the logo, website, wallet and marketing material.
Like Viperbass said we don't have anything to say about the premine, this is in control of our dev. I am sure he welcomes feedback so please contact him with ideas. I personally think its very cool that you are thinking with us about the future of iCoin and would like to say thank you for that.

You raise some valid points although this premine was declared in the previous ANN post and was mentioned in this post at the start, but I agree it needs to be updated
on the OP.
I know there has been a lot of giveaways in the past if you just search for iCoin. CaptainHook seems to be one that is responsible for giving away iCoin for rewards so I would suggest
mailing him for ideas on marketing. I will too.
So we will need to see what comes about for the coin going forward!
EDIT: Looks like Captainhook is also the dev for this coin which means he has the premine and that is why he is doing the bounties, I have PM'd him to help with marketing.

I like the look of this coin and it's the first coin I have started to mine before it hit any major exchange.
Quick question for you, how many people are on the dev team for this coin? Have you got anyone specifically doing marketing?
I think the rapid rise of doge can be traced to the very clever marketing and free advertising they were able to get. I hope your coin has someone with a similar role, if not I'm afraid that all the technical competence in the world won't be enough to distinguish iCoin from the myriad of other coins.

From reading the interview it's 2 developers, 1 marketing and a web designer. I have read the entire history of this ANN and the major problems I Saw initially was with the dev team but this got sorted out eventually but from my PoV very slowly. Having worked in the marketing department for a development house in my previous job I can honestly say if you have a terrible product or a bad dev team it does not matter how good your marketing is, people will walk away. I agree this coin has a great name and looks fantastic but the only problems that I have seen so far is from the dev side at the start but that all looks good now. Hi, I've sent 25 icoins 10 min ago, how long does it take them to be available on icoinwheel.com ?  For some reason it took a bit of time getting to the site but mine arrived 20 minutes later. So far the game seems extremely fair and weirdly more fun then I thought it would be, I am even up 5 iCoin after playing for 20 minutes. |

yes it's good but without market interest in buying it's essentially pointless. the coin needs promoting You have just described 90% of the coins that are currently on exchanges which are just used for pumps and dumps. Although this is a great way to bring the iCoin price down before real value does kick in I will be buying up iCoin when that exchange goes live and if I am the only one I am going to get it real cheap! |
