In most cases, PCI-E 2.0 is NOT backwards compatible with PCI-E 1.0. You'll probably need a new motherboard if you want to use that 5870.

No, they are usually backwards compatible, at least according to Wikipedia, but maybe this particular card doesn't work with this particular motherboard. I still would advocate testing the card on another computer first before giving up, though.

The card should be compatible, I think PCIe 2.0 is backwards-compatible. And 850W should definitely be enough. Can you test the 5870 in another computer to see if it is fully functional?
1043  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Record hashrate for a 5850? (me, showing off) on: July 01, 2011, 04:47:34 AM
According to the official comparison, 392 MH/s was the previous record, so you did beat it. Good job!
1044  Economy / Goods / Re: Google+ invites 0.2 Bitcoin on: July 01, 2011, 04:41:32 AM
Just so everyone knows, the invite system is currently shut down, so invites are not usable at the present time.
1045  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Selling Runescape Account for BTC - Offers? on: July 01, 2011, 04:29:21 AM

Replied and bump. This is still open!

Just so you know, the current exchange price is over $16 a coin. Smiley
1047  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I just signed up with bitcoin and blocks started. How does this work on: June 30, 2011, 11:38:35 PM
I just signed up with bitcoin and blocks started running up to 42000 blocks how does this work? HELP

1. Don't panic. Your Bitcoin client is doing what it's supposed to.
2. Wait for the block count to stop increasing, at 134118 as of this post.
3. Go get some free Bitcoins here.
1048  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Found an old Radeon X1300/1550 on: June 30, 2011, 11:33:52 PM
4200 can't either. Might just but some BTCs if it price stays stable instead of buying a new card.

I'm assuming you mean buy. The future of mining is a little uncertain at the moment, what with the rapid difficulty increases and all. If I were you, I'd sell both those cards on Ebay and use the proceeds plus some extra cash to buy a cheap mining card, like a 5770 or 5830 if you can find one.
1049  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: PowerColor 6990's in stock @ NewEgg on: June 30, 2011, 11:26:25 PM
Well, they're out of stock now, didn't take long.
1050  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Is Antec 380 PSU enough for a Radeon 6950? on: June 30, 2011, 11:25:01 PM
Absolutely not. Listen to the people who say you shouldn't have a problem and you'll end up with a burned out psu. We don't know how many fans or hdd's or other accessories you will be adding. Also your cpu is going to be at 100% while mining because of the way the drivers are for those cards. So that's an extra 100 watts. One more very important factor, you NEVER want to run a psu at 90% of it's capacity 24/7 so I suggest a psu with ample headroom.

I often see a lot of confusion on the web about what a PSU's rated wattage is. The "380W" you see is the continuous wattage, or what the PSU is rated to run at all the time. It actually has a slightly higher peak, or max wattage it can provide, albeit not continuously.

And, uh, the CPU mining at 100%? What are you talking about? Usually the OpenCL miners use 10-15% of a CPU, maybe 20%, but certainly not 100%, unless, of course, you set it to use the CPU. And the power consumption? Quad-core CPU's consume 100W, yes, but he is unlikely to have one of those. A Sempron 140 or low-end Athlon II won't consume more that 50-60W, even at full usage.

While it is generally a good idea to have some headroom, you should be just fine with that PSU as long as it is the only major power-using component in the computer.

I would hope the members of this forum know how to use Google Product Search. And it's not a "mall", or anything like that, it's just a slight modification to Google's normal search engine. It can occasionally be useful, but you will get a lot of results entirely unrelated to what you want.
1052  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5850 and 6850 together, 6850 slows down on: June 30, 2011, 11:14:31 PM
What's your GPU usage percent on the 6850? It should be at nearly 100% if all settings are correct.
1053  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Selling Runescape Account for BTC - Offers? on: June 30, 2011, 11:11:59 PM
The previous poster has not followed up on his offer, so this is still open.
1054  Economy / Goods / Re: [Selling] Sealed Trading Cards - Yugioh, Pokemon, Magic, Baseball +more on: June 30, 2011, 05:12:10 PM
If you're asking the actual cost of the item(s), it varies based on the items MSRP.

Items aren't always sold at the MSRP, though. Usually there's some price competition that drives it down significantly.
1055  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Selling Runescape Account for BTC - Offers? on: June 30, 2011, 05:05:03 PM
I'm interested. I can offer 0.05 BTC.

PM'd.
