1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: 🔥[ANN]ELVN - FIRST MESSENGER WHICH REWARDS FOR ACTIVITY! on: July 27, 2019, 11:45:59 AM
How do you plan on competing with giants like whatsapp and facebook messenger?

I don't think a built in crypto wallet will be of much help in this...

I am in the same situation but not proud because I know I have no option but use their service knowing that my privacy is in stake however we try our best.
You do have options though. Use Linux instead of Windows. Use Firefox instead of Chrome. Use DuckDuckGo instead of Google search. Use ProtonMail instead of GoogleMail. For every service you use which invades your privacy, there is an alternative which doesn't. Here are a couple of great resources for finding said alternatives:

https://prism-break.org/en/
https://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/wiki/de-google

I get it, people worry about their privacy and all, but it is all quite silly really. You just get adverts which are more relevant to you, and quite franky I don't think that's a bad thing unless you are a terrible impulse buyer
It's far worse than just targeted advertising. It's a surveillance state. Snowden's revelations showed the NSA is collecting all your data. Do you trust the government not to do anything shady with your data? Do you trust all future governments? Cambridge Analytica used your data to illegally influence elections. Some countries use data to punish dissidents or anyone who speaks out against the government.

Quote from: Glenn Greenwald
The old cliché is often mocked though basically true: there’s no reason to worry about surveillance if you have nothing to hide. That mindset creates the incentive to be as compliant and inconspicuous as possible: those who think that way decide it’s in their best interests to provide authorities with as little reason as possible to care about them. That’s accomplished by never stepping out of line. Those willing to live their lives that way will be indifferent to the loss of privacy because they feel that they lose nothing from it. Above all else, that’s what a Surveillance State does: it breeds fear of doing anything out of the ordinary by creating a class of meek citizens who know they are being constantly watched.

You make a very valid point, but there are also positives to this...

Because the NSA keeps tabs on the entire world, they are able to find the source of terrorism. They share this information with the 'five eyes' and in a way keep much of the world safe.

Because companies know so much about us, they know what kind of technology we use, what kind of technology we will buy. This is not only good for the economy, but also technological advancement of the whole world.

Because companies sell our data, we are able to use their services for free. How would you feel if you needed to pay a subscription for google maps, facebook, twitter, email, or pretty much any free service that you use? If companies were not able to make money on our data, then the services that they offer would never be as developed and userfriendly as they are now, because they would have a smaller userbase due to the subscription model.

There is good and bad to the invasion of privacy. Where to draw the line?

All of that being said, I agree with you and I am also one of the few who are concerned with privacy. I am just trying to argue the opposing side.  I use proton mail myself, and I will definitely check out the links you posted!
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burstcoin | Proof of Capacity | Smart Contracts | Green Mining on: July 19, 2019, 07:48:56 PM
Burst was my favorite altcoin in 2017 along with Digibyte. What happened and it fell so much though. It used to be at top-100 coin. Is competition so tough lately?

Don't lose faith in BURST. There isn't many coins as unique as BURST, the development team is really strong, and they have a great ambition. All that is missing now is a bit of time, and a good marketing push.

Treat the really low price as a BIG discount Smiley I think it will take a good few years for BURST to mature, but it will be worth it.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LIBRA - Strategy for world domination on: July 18, 2019, 08:27:02 PM
Is Libra the first step for Facebook to take control of the world?

Lets think about the facts:
- Facebook has 1/3 of the world as its user base (2.4 billion users)
- Libra coin will be very easily accessible to all of facebooks users
- Libra coin will be a stable coin, price will not fluctuate providing users in 3rd world countries with a medium to store their wealth.

There are already countries (like venezuela) where a national financial crisis caused fiat money to lose all worth. In desperation people are moving their life savings to bitcoin... Considering that bitcoin is a hard resource for the average person to use, imagine how quick adoption of Libra will be. Libra will be available to use on every cheap smartphone. Developed by Facebook it is sure to be a very user friendly experience, everyone will be able to use Libra. People will use it like real money in every possible way through things like facebook messenger, online shops, international transfers, peer to peer transfers...

Facebook has penetrated our lives in almost all possible ways; relationships, news, entertainment, social gatherings, advertising... the list goes on. The only thing facebook still doesn't have control over is our money. Here comes Libra...

The snowball is rolling, it can not be stopped.

Imagine the world in 20, maybe 50 years.

With the addition of Libra, and a very smart plan for user adoption Facebook can rise to a position of such great power, that it will be in control of the whole world.

There are really no two ways about it but to stop Libra coin from launching else with the assets at the disposal of Facebook which includes a massive trustful community, its only but time before Facebook users commence full banking activities on the Libra blockchain.

But what can be done to stop it? There is so much money being pumped into this development, and so many partnerships...

I think even the US government is pretty much powerless.

man I just had this conversation with friends the other day. at least there are crypto OGs like David Chaum who have been saying it all along and still in it for the fight

Great friends you got, I tried to bring this up too buy my friends were not so interested haha Smiley
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: temtum was on Sky News on Monday!?! on: July 18, 2019, 08:22:32 PM
Congrats to the project for such exposure, I have to looked at their bounty now and they just have a small amount of reward for participants. The team seems to be confident that the project will be a success as normally bounties are high to attract more bounty hunters, but this one seems to be a good project and confident to have secured funds to develop the project.

Yeah the reward of the bounty is not very attractive but i guess many join because most of the elaborate reward offered by other campaigns don't come to be reality because most of them will turned out to be scams or worthless but with Tem there is assurance you will get your reward even if not much.

People are so much depressed by the regular scam in bounties that they'd be doing jobs in any low payment if they feel secure about the project.
Temtum has been able to get the attention of the crypto community and could be one of the rare successful project of 2019.

I agree, it definitely looks like it has what it takes to be one of the few successful projects of 2019. I am very curious to see how much it will be trading for on coinall. I am know I will be buying some! Smiley
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LIBRA - Strategy for world domination on: July 18, 2019, 08:20:36 PM
It depends on what Facebook has in mind. If they want to use Libra as virtual currency (which they will since it is meant to be a stable coin), then it is more likely that way around.
So much news on this project and it seems to me that he will not enter the cryptocurrency market for at least 2 years. All this is so far within the discussion.

I am sure that things will be quiet soon. I expect that the concerns and conversation will be revived when LIBRA is actually launched.
8  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Something I noticed when sending USD from Coinbase to my bank account on: July 18, 2019, 07:47:35 PM
Anyway, I still wonder that Coinbase has customers even after they admitted that they sold their customer data. The crypto was meant to protect ones privacy.

Lol, do you know how much users Google's services still have? Their entire business strategy is based on selling people's data and nobody cares.
You'd be wrong to assume that crypto users care more. Everyone is more than willing to send personal information (including IDs) for KYC etc.

Only a very small minority of people actually care about their privacy.

I get it, people worry about their privacy and all, but it is all quite silly really. You just get adverts which are more relevant to you, and quite franky I don't think that's a bad thing unless you are a terrible impulse buyer Smiley

If you think about it, your data is just 1's and 0's in a database which no human will ever look at, any processing of your data is automatic and handled my complicated algorithms. As long as it is not used for malicious purposes, or sold to your friends - who cares?

Don't get me wrong I am not saying you should be sending pictures of your ID, name and address without second thoughts, because there are many bad things that can happen if such data goes in the wrong hands.
9  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Amazon, Bitcoin, Blue Moon and the British post office. on: July 18, 2019, 07:43:15 PM
I wonder why he wants to deliver to the moon - I expect he has heard that Bitcoin is going to the moon this year, and he wants to start accepting it.

Quote of the century hahahah Smiley Well done!

On a serious note, it is uncomprehensible how Amazon can deliver in 1 day, or even in 2 hours in London, but Royal Mail, nor any other government backed courier around the world can.

Amazon is one company, doing a better job around the whole world, than companies whose only market is their local...
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: temtum was on Sky News on Monday!?! on: July 17, 2019, 08:44:42 PM
Wow at first I looked at it thinking it was just a normal project, because there was nothing special. I know because they have a bounty campaign starting over a month ago.
I also thought this was a normal project, nothing special. But since I learned it more thoroughly, this is really a good and wonderful project in the future. This is a project that will be listed in exchange without an ICO or IEO, they certainly have a lot of investment funds to be able to do it.

One reason i love this project, they are not organizing any money grabbing ico or ieo rather they are already well founded by trusted investors who have great believe in this project, enough funds to see development of this project to the future, am just amazed how this project is well planned out, very deserving project indeed.

And to be in sky news is huge publicity.

yes it is great to be in the news, the only problem with sky news is that it is watched by elderly people who don't have any clue about technology.
11  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Please, take a look at my bitcoin forecast app :) on: July 17, 2019, 06:39:56 PM
I must say that it looks very promising. I am going to keep an eye on it and see.

I am sure this is something you already thought of, but it would be really nice to have scroll and zoom functionality, without it the 1 month chart is very hard to read.
12  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Don;t be tempted to Sell OUT; HODL on: July 17, 2019, 06:30:25 PM

Did bears really come back? Or there are just other people who just noticing how far the dip goes down but never think of how far the increase goes up. If bears will really come back then expect below $5,000+ as it will surely break the former established price support.

We need this dip, really badly need this to establish a strong bottom. Like you have mentioned, $14,000 to $9,000 in just 2 weeks, look at how weak the resistance at above $10,000. Do you guys just want for the price to just go up and take the easy path to the moon knowing there is weak resistance every floor? If that will be the case then it's just a replay of 2017 where everything is "hype".

I agree, what is happening now is a natural movement. I am really happy with the way the market is looking. We need to build up a solid price support before moving further up.

I have heard that with the BTC halving coming up, many miners are already holding their coins in their wallets.  The price will increase exponentially in 6 months. I would be tempted to say we might even see highs of $30,000 to $40,000 by the end of the year. If you think about it, historically BTC has experienced incredible growth every single time that it has hit $10,000. The price jumps in waves, you could compare it to a tsunami... first the wave retreats, and then it comes back 10 fold.
13  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Setting Stop-Loss at Binance on: July 17, 2019, 06:27:07 PM
Does Binance not have a feature to do this?  If not, what exchanges do have the features for doing trading stops?
Binance has set up a stoploss system for a long time. seems its interface is quite confusing to you?
If it is too strange for you and you cannot use it in the best way, you can trade in Bittrex. There, the interface is simpler and the settings are much easier.
Binance trading interface is the simplest I have ever seen and it is very user friendly, that is why they have advanced and beginner on their exchange, probably he is been going to advance which is why he is not seeing the feature, because it is very glaring on the beginner own and that is one of the first thing he should even see once he is setting his buy order.

Well, bittrex too is not so bad, they have every simple interface too and so as Kucoin, but I have heard some complains about the services of bittrex, and I think there was an issue I had with them that made me switch to Binance, because bittrex was the exchange I initially started using before moving to Binance and got a better services there. I think for any newbie, Binance still remains the easiest platform for them.

It is the easiest platform to use, and there are great tools and indicators that you can plot onto the charts, which really help make good trades.

I can't believe I was always avoiding top exchanges, and using stuff like nova exchange, cryptopia etc.

Silly me Smiley
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Guide- Creating a paper wallet for bitcoin on: July 16, 2019, 04:56:58 PM
Also realize that unless you are auditing the source code yourself, you are blindly putting your trust in a third party to create truly random keys, and not display pre-generated keys which they would then use to steal all your coins.

My thoughts exactly. I find it a little strange that a newbie account is posting a guide on how to set-up a paper wallet. If the seeds are not random, then it does not matter if the wallet is created offline.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH Right Now: Will Do A Bull Run Too? on: July 13, 2019, 08:00:29 PM
I don't think ETH will grow much now, and whether or not the market will grow at all, because Bitcoin is practically in place now

The fact that bitcoin is in place now is very good, btc is just stabilising its price. It is a natural market behaviour, the price needs to stabilise before it shoots up again. Otherwise it will just come crashing down.
16  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Can I still get wealthy through Bitcoin? on: July 13, 2019, 04:36:48 PM
Bitcoin will not make you wealthy, there is no coin that will magically make you wealthy.

It is your hard work and research that will do it Smiley
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What is happening with EOS? on: July 12, 2019, 09:52:43 PM
Guys, what is wrong with EOS?

It has lost almost 50% of its value within just a few weeks. Is there something bad going on with it that I don't know about?
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: US Government vs. Facebook Libra on: July 12, 2019, 09:45:58 PM
governments fear everything they cannot manipulate or control. even the banks fear Libra and cryptocurrencies. the banks have probably pressured governments to intervene. let us remember, however, that Libra is not truly decentralized.

When it comes to LIBRA, it is not the decentralisation that the governments are afraid of. They are afraid that the centralisation of money is moving out of their control.

I predict that LIBRA will take over monetary supply in the whole world within 50 years.

If you think about it, it is both good and bad in many ways.
19  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to Prevent been a crypto addict. on: July 12, 2019, 09:25:42 PM
honestly, it is getting serious that most people spend over 18 to 19 hours these days on systems and mobile phones watching the market, trading on the move with their mobile. the addiction is getting out of hand. i think i am probably getting into this kind of life.
what could be the possible means of prevention. i need to have my normal life back.

It is really important that you treat trading with a healthy attitude. Remember, if you are not in a healthy frame of mind when trading, you will lose money, and if it becomes an addiction, you will lose big money.

I personally never trade when I am on the move. Probably because there is a lot going on around me, and it is impossible to concentrate. I usually spend up to an hour before making a single trade. Planning is important.

20  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Day trading BTC on: July 12, 2019, 09:22:31 PM
So I day trade for a living. I predominantly trade the FTSE 100, UK index, through IG markets. I just started dabbing into Bitcoin trading about 2 months back. I must say I'm overwhelmed by the returns I'm getting. Compared to the volatility and market noise I get trading indices, this is like taking candy from a kid. Now let me explain. Although IG has bitcoin CFDs, I don't touch them because leverage is too high so I use another broker, which I wont name for obvious reasons. So what i do is I use the charting software and indicator settings that I get with IG. It costs me, 15 pounds a month if I don't execute 3 or more trades in any given month. Now here is the trick, I use the real time charting of bitcoin on IG and I cross reference price action with my bitcoin broker and it's a bit off on the live quotes. It's almost like I can see into the future with this. If any of you here know a bit of technical analysis and the ATR indicator, it kind of gives you the true range of bitcoin on any given time. On my bitcoin broker platform when I execute my trades, on IGs live quote the price is slightly delayed, add that to a 5min chart and you have ATM machine.

I started with $375 worth of btc and have been doing roughly 2.5 or so of BTC a week, now I'm sitting with 17 btc within a span of 2 months or so, just by cross referencing live price action with my IG and BTC broker.

Someone I knew once told me something that I will never forget...

'If it is too good to be true, it probably is'

Unless you can post some sort of proof, I don't think I will be able to believe you. I can't imagine you getting 17 BTC that quick.
